Lenovo cooling fan is too loud

Hi,
I install fedora linux on lenovo y570 (version with i7) because I buy lenovo without Operating System.
When I'm start fedora few minutes latter cooling fan is start and works continuously, my CPU temperature is OK (~45C).
What I can do with this cooling fan, noise is to big
Thanks

Hi, I put also ubuntu on my notebook, but...
It's looks my laptop in not supported
I always have message "Unable to connect to ThinkPad Fan Control daemon (tpfand). Please make sure you are running this program on a supported IBM/Lenovo ThinkPad, a recent thinkpad_acpi module is loaded with fan_control=1 and tpfand has been started."
I read on wiki page from your link:
Does this work with my Thinkpad XYZ?
This depends on whether your Thinkpad is supported by the thinkpad_acpi kernel module. Check if the thinkpad_acpi module is loaded at all
lsmod | grep thinkpad_acpi
and if not, try to load it by hand
sudo modprobe thinkpad_acpi
If that fails, tpfand will not work with your Thinkpad.
Second command fails on my system, so I definitely can not use this software ;(

  • Mac fan running too loud after update

    I have a Macbook pro 13".  (mid 2012)
    Memory: 4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Processor: 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5
    Storage: 500 gb
After updating to Yosemite 10.10, my macbook pro's fan is running too loud and producing a lot of heat. I reseted the SMC several times but it didn't help. Surprisingly, The fan also runs loud even if only 1 application is open.
Please advice me what should I do.
    Thank you in advance!

I have the same model and I've had the same problem for a few days. I didn't really have problems with heat, but my fan was going crazy even though I was just browsing the Internet. Maybe you're logged into iCloud and have some activity going on. What worked for me was going to:
    1. System Preferences
    2 iCloud
    3. Uncheck things like "Keychain", "Find my Mac", etc. (things you don't need/use)
For me, I unchecked everything and logged out of iCloud. After several minutes, my fan is super quiet and not acting up! Hope this helps.

  • Fan is too loud

normally when i start my mbp it is normally quiet. Then one day all of a sudden the fan just got really loud. I dont know what happened or why it is so loud and i only have 2 applications open. SO can someone help me thanks

One day about a week after I got my new MacBook, I shut it down and closed the lid, then noticed the fan was somewhat loud. I'd hardly ever heard the fan before, but I didn't think too much about it. I figured it was just warmer than usual and the fan would run for a bit then shut off. I put it in a bag and a few hours later when I took it out it would not start up. Turned out the battery was run down. I assume the fan had kept on running until it depleted the battery. It's only happened that once, but I'll be paying attention from now on when I shut it down to make sure the fan isn't still running. I guess if I had too, I would just pop the battery out.
Make sure you have installed the latest firmware updates for your Macbook. They update the fan controller.

  • Cooling fan runs too much

I've had my MacBook for about 5 months. Recently (the past month or so) I've noticed the cooling fan running a a lot. Even if it's in a cool environment, sitting on a desktop, it will sometimes run constantly. There are only a couple of applications open and no CD/DVD in the drive. This problem is random; for instance, today it started after I restarted my machine. It's been running non-stop for a half hour now. I do regular updates, including the latest firmware update last week. Any ideas?

I'm not surprised. Last time mine did it is was a printjob that was running. I didn't try to print but something I looked at or did caused it to start.
Go back into activity monitor and high light the process. Then click the stop sign looking icon to quit that process.

Have you ever clened the dust out of the fan ports? See:

  • Too loud fan on MSI GX 700

    Hi everybody,
I have problem with MSI GX 700 notebook. The fan is too loud for all the time.
If I use only internet values from sensors are :
    NVidia GeForce 8600M GT  56*C
    CPU temperature 60*C
Is any solution too make fan silent ?  I have Windows 7 64bit, I try update BIOS but on offcial site, are updates for only XP and Vista (http://eu.msi.com/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=driver&maincat_no=135&prod_no=1227). Thx

Put a cooler-pad under it, something like shown below.
But cooler-pad ? I want decrease noise, not temperature. The fan is too loud, if I  use cooler pad, it make some extra noise.

  • W100: speakers too quiet - fan too loud

    Hello,
i am using the w100-10d and i am not amused about the loudness concerning the fan and
the speakers. The fan is too loud and the speakers are very quiet.
Is anybody there, who can give me some informations about the speakers and their configuration ?
In Windows 7 and in the Toshiba Conf. Panel the loudness is on max. level, but the sound is too quiet.
Perhaps Toshiba is estimating all users are using the headset ?
    Thanks

    >Is anybody there, who can give me some informations about the speakers and their configuration ?
    > In Windows 7 and in the Toshiba Conf. Panel the loudness is on max. level, but the sound is too quiet.
This Libretto is an kind of tablet PC an small 7 display device I dont know what speaker loudness do you expect but you will not get the same loudness like on 15 notebook equipped with bigger speakers.
Furthermore the speakers are mono and not stereo.
By the way; the sound can be configured in control panel -> sound
Check if all volume controls are set to top.

  • MSI 875P Neo-FIS2R Northbridge fan too loud !

I have a very quite system, but the Northbridge fan is too loud ! In fact it is the loudest element in my system and I'd like to replace it.
Which fans are there that I could use instead ?

  • G6 1c58ca laptop want to replace cooling fan and copper part

i have probelm with cooling fan being really loud and making way too much vibration that actually numbs my hands while using wireless keyboard on same desk. so, i have taken apart the laptop to clean the cooling fan area with compressed air, and assembled it again, and ran the laptop.
a littble improvement but still same problem.
so i came to comclusion that the hardware part itself is the problem and i want to replace it.
so my question is where can i find or buy the cooling fan and copper colored line that is connected to cooling fan?

looked at amazon but they only had coolingfan part not the copper colored line.

  • RADEON 9800 cooling fan

I have a RADEON 9800 Pro Mac Edition 256MB in my QuickSilver 2002 mounted in the AGP slot. The 9800 cooling fan is very loud (grinding sound) after a cold startup then gets quiet after it warms up. I have looked at third party cooling fans for this RADEON and I have found the Zalman v700cu and the Arctic Cooling ATI Silencer 1, Rev. 2 that seem to be compatible. From the images of these two coolers it looks like the two mounting screws that project out the back of the garphic card are very close to the lower memory slot in my QuickSilver. I don't use the PCI slot next to the AGP slot so I know the coolers will be OK there.
My question is, has anyone actually tried one of these coolers in a QuickSilver 2002 and is there enough clearance between the mounting posts on the cooler and the memory card to prevent them from touching?

ATI fans are notoriously bad (read that as cheap). You will know the fan is going bad when you hear a loud whine or grinding noise after a cold startup or during heavy use. The fan went bad on my 9800 Pro 256 after just 5 months. I had to send the card to ATI for repair - nearly 3 weeks to get the card back. The replacement ATI fan started making noise after another 90 days. I can't see doing this on a regular schedule for the three year warranty term so I replaced the stock fan with an Arctic Cooling ATI Silencer 1, Rev. 2. It's easy to install. So quiet that I can't hear it run and my computer case and power supply fans run slower and with less noise than ever before due to the Arctic fan venting warm air out of the computer.
The Arctic Cooling ATI Silencer 1, Rev. 2 installed perfectly with no modifications and minimal effort. It has a 6 year warranty. I consider this modification the best thing you can do to protect the $250 (or whatever you pay) investment you make with the RADEON card. It's better than waiting for the stock fan to fail and cause your 9800 to melt down. Technically installing the Arctic fan voids the ATI warranty but I believe I could reinstall the old stock fan if the card needs other warranty repairs without anyone noticing the switch was ever made.
So your answers are yes and yes although I never had the monitor problem you describe. The ATI card is a good choice - keep it then download and install the latest drivers from the ATI/AMD web site and do yourself a favor and buy an Arctic Cooling ATI Silencer model for your card. Install it when you start to hear the stock fan going bad. You will be glad you did.
PS - many thanks to FangSuede for his excellent advice given to me.

  • 3-day-old 13.3" MBP with rough sounding cooling fan

    Hi all,
I just purchased a new MBP with retina, 13" 3 GHZ Core i7. I should note that I'm a replacing a similar, 13"MBP (retina) that was stolen from me. The new machine is awesome. However, the cooling fan is much louder than my previous machine. It's not extremely obnoxious, but noticeably louder than the last unit. It basically sounds like the fan has a bad bearing or something. Is this something Apple will look at in regards to repair? I don't want it to become a much bigger problem, a short while down the road. I purchased the machine on the 4th.
    Thanks!

If you bought it from Apple, you have up to 14 days from receipt to return or exchange it.
After that, it is a repair problem, with its possible associated downtime.
Make an appointment at your local Apple store, if available, as soon as possible. Your serial number or product type will allow you to book the appointment online. Refusing to provide one of these will get you a never-ending run-around.

  • Y50-70 Fan too loud

I installed an samsung 850 evo 500 GB in my Y50-70 with windows 8.1 because my hdd just broke. Everything went as planned with no issues until the installation was complete, but sometimes the CPU fan becomes very loud, even if I'm just using chrome, for example.
    Is that normal?
Another thing...after the instalation, i lost all of the drivers. I downloaded all from the lenovo's web site, but i miss the energy manager with dust removal option...how can i get it back?
    best regards,

    Dear Guhdalpai

  • Not too cooler fan

I just bought a custom "mega" computer. I know very little. The cooling fan on the motherboard is so loud it drives me to distraction. I'm told if I upgrade to a quieter fan I will void the warrenty on the motherboard -or- Intel duo proccessor???
