Lenovo DOES NOT honour WARRANTY!

I have a T500 which is still under warranty. A few days ago, while opening the notebook, the hinge just snapped.
I called Lenovo Malaysia but they immediately told me that the warranty does not cover such failure. I thought the warranty clearly states: “Lenovo warrants that each Machine 1) is free from defects in materials and workmanship...”
And now, in this case, the hinge failed. This is OK – machines do fail. But what I find truly upsetting and disturbing is that the support team categorically said this is NOT UNDER WARRANTY even without looking at it! They said this is "wear and tear". It would be fair if they had examined my notebook and found that I mishandled it.
I just do not know how they arrive at this conclusion? Is it not possible that there is a manufacturing defect of the hinge that causes this failure? Is this IMPOSSIBLE? So, how do you come to this conclusion?
What use is the "warranty" then???!!!

I know and feel for you. I have seen that in details on a different series when I was shopping online once. I have seen notebooks 10 years old with 100% working hinges. The engineering has come a long way since the first notebooks. But every manufacture back in the day stood by their hinges if they failed even after warranty's 1st year. I know, I worked in a servicing dealer. If they're failing now its due to materials used and quality of components and if they're cheaping out on the hinges they should replace those which fail and move on. Pisssing off a customer is the biggest client base killer there is and all the millions of Yen in advertising won't bring them back!!

  • Build does not honour menu return commands?

Has anyone encountered this problem? When simulating within DVDSP4, all menu return commands go to the correct menu page (I have 22 menus!). BUT . . . when I do a "build" of the file, the built file does not honour ALL of the menu return commands, just some of them!?!
For almost all of the buttons on each menu screen, I am using stories to locate a specific chapter on a single video track. Each story item correctly designates the menu return - pointing back to that specific menu button from which it originated.
Simulation mode works fine - built file (using Apple's DVD player or burnt DVD) does not.

It is really frustrating when issues like this creep in... all we can do is go methodically through them and try to resolve them as best we can.
Alex offered to look at the project for you if you replace the major assets with still images as place holders. I'll extend the same offer to you if it will help. All I can say is that simulator is not the most accurate of testing stations, and never really has been!
Scripting this is really straight forward as scripting goes, but very daunting if you have never done any before. The thing is that if you have got the stories set up correctly you shouldn't need to script it.
Check a few basics with me...
    1) the chapter markers in the track do not have end jumps or menu calls or anything like it set up on them.
    2) The menu buttons point to the story container and not the chapter marker within the container
    3) the story container has the end jump and menu call set up precisely as you want it to be - none are set to 'same as track'
    4) you haven't reused a previous build file
Have you tried quitting and re-starting DVDSP as well? Stranger things have happened...
As for the scripting method - the way you could do this is to create a script for each menu. You can set the first script as the start up item for the disc if you wish, and set it up to read the following:
    mov GPRM0, 1
    Jump firstmenu
You replace 'firstmenu' with the actual name of the menu - the script editor will only let you choose from menus within your project as you build the script.
Then, each button on the menu goes to the appropriate story, etc. I would imagine that you have got a button which goes to the second menu on there somewhere too... create a script for that button and write:
    mov GPRM0, 2
    Jump secondmenu
If you have a button on the second menu which returns you to the first, point it to the first script instead of directly to the menu. In this way you can set a unique value relevant to each menu which we can use later, so repeat this sequence for every menu that you have got. Simulator comes in really handy now - you can see the GPRM value change in the info window as you move between the menus to check it is holding the correct value.
Now, to get to the correct button.
When you select a button on a menu the value for that button is lodged into a system register with the nice friendly name of 'SPRM8'. Button 1 on your menu will have a value of 1024, button 2 will be 2048, button 3 will be 3072 and so on in jumps of 1024 each time. Again, you can see this happen in the simulator window, and we can use this information to get back to the right button. It doesn't matter which menu you are on, button 1 will always lodge 1024 into SPRM8...
SO, let's put that together and see what happens.
When you press the 'menu' button on the remote you need to go to a script, so set the menu call in the property inspector to go to the following script (call it what you like... script 23 would be logical, but not too user friendly!)
    mov GPRM1, SPRM8
    div GPRM1, 1024
    Jump firstmenu [GPRM1] If(GPRM0 = 1)
    Jump secondmenu [GPRM1] If(GPRM0 = 2)
    Jump thirdmenu [GPRM1] If(GPRM0 = 3)
    and so on.
What this script is doing is getting the number from SPRM8 and converting it to a usable number (div by 1024), but storing the value into a second register (GPRM1). Then you get the jump statements but the square brackets are GPRM based button jumps - these take you to the button with the value that is stored in the GPRM within the brackets. The final part of the line is the conditional statement - you ONLY jump to the first menu (and button) IF the value in GPRM0 is for that menu. If it isn't you go on to the second line and jump to that menu instead IF the value in GPRM0 is for the second menu...etc. You carry on through the lines until one is true, and that jump takes place - all others are ignored.
Now - that's a really long winded explanation! Sorry about that... it's actually easier to do than to explain.
There are other ways to do this, too. Some are longer again, and others are more confusing (but probably shorter). This method seems a happy medium to me

  • LR5 Publish Services does not honour 'Reload plug-in on every export'

I am developing a custom export plug-in for adding backdrops and border to exported images.
If I tick the 'Reload plug-in on every export' box then any changes I make to the plugin code get reloaded if I do a normal 'Export' from Lightroom 5.
However if I use Publish Services to export the images it does not honour the 'Reload' checkbox and the old plugin code gets used.

Hi, assuming your are referring to Jeffrey Freidl then can I just say that his plug-ins add so much more flexibility to any that might already exist in LR and I think he only expects the minimum set by Paypal as the minimum donation.
You can try them for a number of days before deciding to donate.
I did and I wouldn't be without them.

  • HP Envy 15-j126TX Unable to turn on, hard reset does not work, warranty just over

Dear all My HP Envy laptop was working fine every day, doing its job well till today.I tried to turn on the laptop by pressing the power button, but nothing happened.Removing the battery, using only the AC charger, switching power sources and hard resets all don't work. What the problem looks like:- laptop does not turn on when power button is pressed- charging port emits a red light when battery is in, white light when only relying on AC power.- screen does not turn on at all, no fan sounds either. To make things worse, HP has been asking me to extend my warranty for about a month. I declined. The warranty end date (1 year) was approximately July 14. Today is July 15. I hope this is not the case, but it seems that HP has produced a computer designed to fail on the exact date that warranty ends. I would greatly appreciate any help as I depend heavily on my laptop for school and work purposes.Thank you!

  • Printing/Preview does not honour to printer page margins and garbles text

I have this weird problem with printing. When I print, e.g., a pdf using preview, the page comes out of the printer incorrectly, that is the top 2.2cm gets chopped off and some of the characters have become unreadable (especially the I, the :, and the J). When I print the same pdf from adobe reader, the page comes out fine...
The problem of chopping-off the top bit of a page also happens when I print directly from an application (e.g., thunderbird, firefox). Saving the print as PDF and printing that one with adobe reader again works fine.
The problems occurs only when I print on my Lexmark Optra E312L (using the generic Postscript printer). On our HP Photo Printer (B9180), everything works as expected.
I have already restarted the printing system, but while this did solve another printing problem, I still have this problem.
So my question is: anyone else experiencing similar problems (ie., top of print chopped-off and garbled text) and, better yet, is there a solution?
    Thanks,
    Hayo

Steve, thank you for trying to answer my question/solve my problem!
You suggestions, however do not fully help in my case though
I was already using the full printing dialogue, but nowhere did I find anything that might solve this problem. The print scaling, I did not want to use as I want the page to come out as-is (the pdf was an A4 and I print to A4). Note: border less printing or other ways of selecting a larger printable area doesn't work either; when I select the Lexmark, I have a very limited number of page size options and while it shows them, I can't use a custom page size (otherwise that could have solved the problem I guess).
I did expect some things to get chopped-off but then evenly from all sides (ie, where it can't print). This is not what happens when printing from preview though. Today I tried again and while the results are the same, I now understand better what Preview does: it chops off only the top bit (what it does left and right, I don't know yet). In my opinion this is an error on the part of Preview because that way you never get the page exactly as it was intended. Adobe Reader does this much better, so that is what I will be using from now on.
The other problem, the garbled text (mostly i's, j's, and :'s) is still there as well. So I guess there must be a problem in the printing engine of Preview in combination with the generic postscript driver...
Heck, it gets even more interesting: I also tested printing from Firefox directly. This results in an error flashing on the printer, the printout got out of the printer ok-ish though. When saving the output as PDF and printing that with Adobe Reader again, the printer does not generate an error AND (more importantly), the output is much better quality wise (the rendering of the fonts and greys is much better).
Right, I guess the lesson I learned here is not to use Preview/print directly when I want to print to the Lexmark and to take the route PDF->Adobe Reader->Lexmark instead.
Is there a way I can let Apple know about bugs? (the garbled text certainly is a bug, the other things may or may not).
    Thanks again,
    Hayo

  • Swichable Grafics driver 8.752.4-101022a-107489C-lenovo does not install properly

    Hi!
I was very happy to see that lenovo finally got us a renewed driver for those of us with swichable grafics.
I thought, that finally all the swiching after sleep, etc would be over, but the driver is not propperly excepted!
I initially installed the driver through system update, than i tried manual upgrade.
after that I tried uninstalling the old driver and installing the new driver.... no result as well.
Does anyone experience the same? I would be very thankful for a solution!
    My System: w500 - 4063-A45

I found a workaround -  it is to manually install the driver and the ccc, but this way it seems to me, that the original problem what the update was designed for (high power consumtion after sleep) ist still there

  • Safari 3.0.4 does not honour global appearances preferences in 10.4.11?

Has anyone noticed that under 10.4.11, Safari 3.0.4 ignores Appearance Preferences (at least 'Appearance' and 'place scroll arrows') and displays using the defaults?

Is ok now. Multiple restarts? Another user logging off and back on? Who knows.

  • U300s Trackpad does not appear in device manager

Recently I had an issue where I needed to reinstall windows. I downloaded a legitimate ISO and reinstalled it. When I went to reinstall all of the drivers, I had an issue with the TrackPad driver. I know it is a Cypress Touchpad. When I try to install the driver I get this error message: "Cannot find Cypress Trackpad!". It does not show up in the device manager (only my USB mouse is under the Mice and Keyboard menu.) My question is this: What can I do? I can't reflash the BIOS because I already have the latest one and WinFlash won't let you flash a BIOS with the same or earlier date on it. I have checked and the connection to the motherboard is very secure. What other options do I have? I'm not pleased in the least with this error. Any help is appreciated. I know computers well so if there are any solutions that are on the technical side, throw them at me! Thanks!
As a side note, I used a generic (read: non-OEM) windows ISO because Lenovo does not have a customized (OEM-specific) one easily accessable online.
    System Overview:
    Lenovo U300s
    Intel Core i7-2677M @ 1.8Ghz
    4GB RAM
    Windows 7 64-Bit SP1

Hi, I recently upgraded to win8.1 and accidentally made it a fresh install soo it was pretty fresh... haha
Well, my touchpad was working but it wasn't recognized in the device manager, someone said that I may had to reinstall the driver that came installed when I bought it, Lenovo has them avaliable here: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/default.page?#
After installing it the icon appeared again and I had the options avaliable in the device manager and everything... I think that may be the problem.

  • Lenovo G50 NOT plugged in, but 'charging'.

I just bought a new Lenovo G50 about a month ago. The only strange problem I have picked up in the last 2 weeks, is that even when my notebook is NOT plugged into the charger, it still indicates that it is charging from an incompatible power source. Where my previous notebook, warned me on 10% battery left, my new Lenovo does not, because it is under the impression that it is 'Charging'.
The battery life is not really affected and when plugged in, it charges the battery normally.
Can anyone help me with a solution, before I take it back to my supplier. I know simple fixes like this can take up to WEEKS if I have to take it in.
    Thank you in advanced.

    hi dentonbronkhors,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
    Can you try these steps:
Open Device Manager and look Under Batteries, Right click and uninstall the item Named Microsoft SCPI compliant control method battery.
Shut the computer down instead of doing a restart like the computer ask.
Now Remove the Battery and Unplug the Ac adapter, Hold the poer button down for at least 10 sec.
Turn the computer back on and See if that resolves the issue.
    Let us know your findings
    Cheers!

  • Ideapad Flex 14 - Lenovo support does show correct warranty details

    Hi
The Lenovo support centre does not show correct warranty details for my Ideapad Flex 14 laptop. The laptop is barely one month old and it is covered under warranty for next 11 months.

Sometimes warranties are set as the build date by default. If you contact Lenovo with your invoice / receipt, they should be able to update the warranty details.

    Hello Marcel,
It sounds like you are wanting to use the iMac in Target Display mode with your PC. Target Display mode is a feature that is supported from one Mac to another Mac according to this article:
OS X Mavericks: Use another Mac as a display
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14264
Target Display Mode lets you use a Mac as the external display for another, “primary” Mac.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

  • I had an accident with my ipod. i did not know that; nowadays, the warranty does not cover my ipod if the screen is cracked. but now the battery is not working. the warranty does help me for something??

i want help, not the same comments that i will not be helped. i admit my fault as the owner that i had the accident, but i believed that i was secured with my warranty. otherwise i would ha decided to do not have it if i was going to be the one paying to be fixed... how can i still trust Aplee Corp if the are not helping me with a devise that i paid the price that they decided giving me a warranty to be sure that i am secure while i use my devise. now i would like to know if i can have a refund of the warranty because i am looking for a different way to fix it because i have to pay and pay. but i paid for this situation and i had such assintance leaving me aside telling me that i am hopeless and also that i have to pay more and more.

It never - ever has. The manufacturer's warranty covers you against faults due to manufacturing. (So if the screen did crack due to a manufacturing defect, Apple warranty would cover it, BUT - Apple would be aware and would be able to identify the cause of a cracked screen due to manufacturing defects, so ...)
Since you did not want comments telling you what you don't want to hear, you should condsider yourself lucky that you have any replies to this post. Sometimes, the truth hurts.
