Lenovo e330 touchpad problem on ubuntu 12.04 LTS (32 bit)

dear all,
i've installed ubuntu 12.04 LTS 32 bit on my lenovo e330. everything almost fine, but my touchpad.
everytime i tap to click on th touchpad, the pointer shifted a little bit to the other direction. that's not what i want...
the pointer is ok if i click using mouse, or trackpad.
i've adjust the sensitivity of the touchpad in setting > mouse and touchpad setting but no luck.
i just thinking maybe i have to update the driver of the touchpad, but i can't find it using google...
somebody can give me advice? thanks before.

  • Ubuntu 14.04 LTS 64-bit & Skype

    Thanks for coming back and explaining it, it worked for me! Really appreciate it.

    I'm going to answer some of my own questions, since I've been doing the research online. First of all, I found a way to install a useable version of Skype using Terminal on Ubuntu OS 14.04 LTS 64-bit. Answers:Yes, Skype will work with Ubuntu 14.04 LTS 64-bit Here is how I worked it out. I have no coding experience, so I found a website where someone had posted the procedure. To give credit where credit is due, here is his Google+ home, and the webpage where I gathered this information:https://plus.google.com/+JimUbuntuHandbook/postshttp://ubuntuhandbook.org/index.php/2014/06/skype-4-3-install-in-ubuntu-1404/ Procedure, as it worked for me, direct from his blog: 1. Install required libraries (for 64-bit system)Skype website only provides 32-bit package for Ubuntu 12.04 and higher. You’re unable to install it directly on 64-bit system due to dependencies issue. However, install the old skype from Canonical partners repository will also install the required libraries we need for NEW skype.a.) Press Ctrl+Alt+T on keyboard to open terminal. When it opens, run commands one by one to remove old skype and .skype folder:sudo apt-get remove skype skype-bin
    rm -rf ~/.skypeb.) Open “Software & Updates” and enable Canonical partners repository under Other Software tab.c.) Press Ctrl+Alt+T on keyboard to open terminal. When it opens, run the commands below to install old skype:sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get install skype Back to my own words. It took me a moment to realize that Skype was actually installed, and I had to search for it using Dash (aka Search your computer and online sources). Dash is located in the upper left hand corner of your Launcher Bar (where all the icons are on the left, usually two icons above where Firefox is pinned). Click on Dash, and search for "Skype". It will come up in the search. When you open it, the Skype icon will appear on the Launcher Bar. Right click the icon and select "lock to launcher" so you don't have to do this again. When you sign in for the first time, it will ask you to start a new account or sign in using an active account. After a successful sign in, you will have a small window for the program open in the lower right hand corner of your screen. This should have your contacts listed if you signed in with an active account. This looks like the latest release of Skype for Linux/Ubuntu. I don't know the answers to the rest of my questions, but one problem is now solved.

  • Lenovo G570 Compatibility with Ubuntu 12.04 LTS

    Last time when I installated Ubuntu 11, I severly had power regression problems.
    So, I heard that such bugs are fixed in 12.04 LTS ( fixed in Linux Kernel ). I would like to know from other G570 users about how Ubuntu 12.04 LTS is working??
    1. How power management is working? Is it as good as in windows?
    I do have another issue in handling hybrid graphics. My laptop has 1GB ATI Radeon HD 6370M graphics along with Intel in build. I am aware that Linux doesn't provide a seamless swithcing of graphics on run time but how well we can do that?
    what's the best way to do that??

    I use debian with single GPU does it count ? what are your kernel patch ?

  • How can Firefox Nightly (V. 22.0a1) Global Menu Bar be disabled in Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (When it has been disabled in FireFox Stable (19.0) and Unity (5.18.0))

    I have tried various methods of removing the Global Menu Bar from both unity and Firefox before, but they seem to have no bearing on the Firefox Nightly version.
    1. Nightly doesn't have the "Global Menu Bar Integration" addon by default.
    2. "sudo apt-get remove firefox-globalmenu" does not effect Nightly.
    3. trying "sudo apt-get install appmenu-gtk appmenu-gtk3 appmenu-qt" and then "sudo apt-get autoremove etc..." for unity doesn't effect Nightly.
    4. Menu editor addons don't target this problem.
    5. All searchable online help relates to re-inabling the global bar due to earlier Nightly version bugs.
    6. It doesn't matter what graphics hardware is used, the results are still the same.
    Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask, but on hi-res screens this is more than just annoying to always be running back up to the top bar.

  • B5400 Synaptics Touchpad Problem

  • Problem installing ubuntu in virtual box

    Hello lately i tried installing ubuntu LTS in virtual box 3.2 using an ISO image downloaded in hard disk but every time i try to run it, it says upgrade it to new ubuntu 10.04 LTS though this is the same one i installed. The softwares which i downloaded earlier are all gone. What might be the reason for this please do let me know.........I was willing to try ubuntu but this is giving me a headache now.
    Thanks for any help afforded
    Regards
    Sanjaya

    Thanks for your reply,
    Yeah i too guessed that the problem might be that it is booting from the iso image in the hard disk so i just moved it to another lokation as i did not know how to unmount the image and now after i have done so the problem of self rebooting is gone atleast for now. Sorry i could not make it much clear was to what the problem was, thanks anyways.

  • [SOLVED] Synaptics touchpad problem eeepc 1000HE

    I installed Arch on my eeepc 1000HE yesterday and configured / used it happily for most of the day - but then it developed a touchpad problem which I'm struggling to fix.
    If you lift your finger from the touchpad the mouse cursors 'forgets' / 'resets' its position.
    eg When you put your finger back on the touchpad the cursor jumps to a different position. For one thing, this means you can't tap to click, because when you lift your finger to tap, the cursor jumps somewhere else (usually a slight move, but usually away from the item one wants to click).
    Also, when needing a few swipes (eg to move the cursor left to right across the screen), the cursor jumps away from its current position (to the left - sort of back to its original starting position) each time I lift my finger to make the extra swipe.
    The problem seems to have started when I had a tv plugged in via the vga and was managing screen switching with xrandr and the screen-switch function key (I'm trying to set up the eeepc as a mythtv frontend) but this could be coincidence.
    Some settings etc -

                 Option "CircScrollTrigger" "2"
                 Option "EmulateTwoFingerMinZ" "0"
    EndSection
    I thought the issue might be related to this https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/20830 , but adding MatchDevicePath "/dev/input/event*" to /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-synaptics.conf didn't make a difference.
    My Daemons array looks like this -
    DAEMONS=(syslog-ng dbus !network wicd netfs crond lircd samba alsa !hal sshd gdm)
    Removing the ! before hal made no difference.
    I am using gnome. Changing the settings in  the /desktop/gnome/peripherals/touchpad/ folder with gconf-editor makes no difference to the problem.
    I am using kernel 2.6.38-ARCH. Using the fallback kernel didn't help.
    Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks

    Update. After some more searching the forum I thought downgrading udev may help. Since I had a fresh install I needed to install the AUR downgrade package. I did a yaourt -Suy before doing so which, amongst other things, installed a new kernel (4-1) and upgraded yajl. When I tried yaourt -S downgrade I got an error re yajl - error while loading shared libraries libyajl.so.1, canot open shared object file, no such file or directory, and then "error: target not found: dowgrade".
    Any help really appreciated.

  • Re: Edge 13 suspend problem in Ubuntu

    Okay, tested this in Windows now and it seems to work there.
    Still, no one else experiencing the same problem in Ubuntu? If not, I'll probably just try and re-install or something. Very strange that it stopped working all of a sudden.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Found out that this was Virtualbox related. The latest version (4.1) sort of bugs everything up when it comes to suspend.
    See the ticket here: http://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/9260
    The workaround provided in the bug ticket worked very well.
    Adding the following line in /etc/pm/config.d/unload_modules fixes the problem for me:
    SUSPEND_MODULES="$SUSPEND_MODULES vboxdrv vboxnetflt vboxnetadp vboxpci "

    I'm running into touchpad problems with my HP Pavilion dv3500t whenever I have the battery charger plugged into the laptop.  When plugged in, the cursor starts drifting uncontrollably and automatically clicks the screen without me lifting my finger from the touchpad.  If I unplug the power plug and run on battery, the touchpad works perfectly.  Is anyone else experiencing this same issue?  Anyone know how I can solve this annoying issue with the touchpad? Basically the touchpad is useless when power is plugged in. I'm running Vista 64-bit with all the latest touchpad drivers and firmware.  The touchpad is an Alps touchpad.  Any help is appreciated.

  • Lenovo G50 Touchpad not letting scroll to highlight text in word to delete text in Windows 10

    Hi. I'm working on a paper. When I want to use the touchpad to scroll to highlight text to delete it is not highlighting the text. It was working perfectly not too long ago. I'm sure it's something simple but I don't know what happened. Can anyone help me please?

    hi DonnaR,
    Welcome to the Forums.
    When you highlight the text, are you doing a double tap & hold then drag to highlight the text or click & hold then drag on the touchpad to highlight?
    If it's the former then tapping might be disabled. Ensure that the Touchpad driver is installed and the tapping feature is enabled.

    Minimum swap space required is 2 GB. You can increase swap space if necessary using a swap file:
    To analyze current swap space and memory configuration:
    sudo cat /proc/meminfo
    To install a 1 GB swapfile named swapfile in /, for example:
    sudo dd if=/dev/zero of=/swapfile bs=1024 count=1048576
    (this may take a while)
    sudo mkswap /swapfile
    sudo swapon /swapfile
    sudo cp /etc/fstab /etc/fstab.orig
    sudo echo '/swapfile swap swap defaults 0 0' >> /etc/fstab
    Verify:
    sudo swapon -a
    sudo swapon -sh4. A.4. Kernel Parameters
    Oracle 11g XE requires the following additional kernel parameters:
    sudo nano /etc/sysctl.d/60-oracle.conf
    (Enter the following)
    # Oracle 11g XE kernel parameters
    fs.file-max=6815744
    net.ipv4.ip_local_port_range=9000 65000
    kernel.sem=250 32000 100 128
    kernel.shmmax=536870912
    (Save the file)
    Note: kernel.shmmax = max possible value, e.g. size of physical RAM.
    Verify: sudo cat /etc/sysctl.d/60-oracle.conf
    Load new kernel parameters:
    sudo service procps start
    Verify:
    sudo sysctl -q fs.file-max
    -> fs.file-max = 6815744h4. A.5. Oracle Installation Directory
    The current Oracle Installation Guide uses the same directory like in previous versions: /usr/lib/oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/server. However, the current Beta installation uses Oracle Flexible Architecture (OFA) and installs into /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/xe. Due to size limitations of Oracle XE it may not be necessary to store the installation to a specific directory or separate volume, but it is possible:
    Install Oracle XE to separate disk volume:
    From the system console menu: System > Administration > Disk Utility
    Select "ext3" filesystem for Oracle compatibility and specify a Volume label, e.g. Oracle.
    Notice the device name e.g. /dev/sdb
    Get the drive UUID:
    sudo blkid
    e.g. /dev/sdb: UUID="d19a2d8f-da43-4802-8bdb-0703c855e23a"
    Modify /etc/fstab to automatically mount the volume at system startup:
    sudo cp /etc/fstab /etc/fstab.original
    sudo nano /etc/fstab
    (Add the following, using determined UUID, for exmple)
    UUID=d19a2d8f-da43-4802-8bdb-0703c855e23a /u01 ext3 defaults,errors=remount-ro 0 1
    (Save the file)
    Create the mount-point, mount the new volume and set ownership and privileges:
    sudo mkdir /u01
    sudo mount -a
    sudo chown root:root /u01
    sudo chmod 755 /u01
    Verify:
    df -h
    or restart the systemYou can also install Oracle XE into a specific directory:
    Create a symbolic link to store the installation into an existing directory, for instance:
    sudo mkdir /home/oracle-xe
    sudo ln -s /home/oracle-xe /u01h3. C) Oracle 11g XE Download and Installation
    h4. C.1. Download and convert the Installer from Red Hat to Ubuntu
    Please see section E.3. to download the Oracle 11gR2 XE installer.
    Select the version listed for Linux x64.
    sudo unzip linux.x64_11gR2_OracleXE.zip
    sudo alien --to-deb --scripts oracle-xe-11.2.0-0.5.x86_64.rpm
    (This may take a while)h4. C.2. Create a special chkconfig script
    The Red Hat based installer of Oracle XE 11gR2 beta relies on +/sbin/chkconfig+, which is not used in Ubuntu. The chkconfig package available for the current version of Ubuntu produces errors and my not be safe to use. Below is a simple trick to get around the problem and install Oracle XE successfully:
    Create /sbin/chconfig:
    sudo nano /sbin/chkconfig
    (Cut and paste the following)
    #!/bin/bash
    # Oracle 11gR2 XE installer chkconfig hack for Debian by Dude
    file=/etc/init.d/oracle-xe
    if [[ ! `tail -n1 $file | grep INIT` ]]; then
       echo >> $file
       echo '### BEGIN INIT INFO' >> $file
       echo '# Provides:             OracleXE' >> $file
       echo '# Required-Start:       $remote_fs $syslog' >> $file
       echo '# Required-Stop:        $remote_fs $syslog' >> $file
       echo '# Default-Start:        2 3 4 5' >> $file
       echo '# Default-Stop:         0 1 6' >> $file
       echo '# Short-Description:    Oracle 11g Express Edition' >> $file
       echo '### END INIT INFO' >> $file
    fi
    update-rc.d oracle-xe defaults 80 01
    (Save the file)
    Set appropriate execute privileges:
    chmod 755 /sbin/chkconfig
    Note: You should remove the /sbin/chkconfig file after successful installation of Oracle XE.
    h4. C.3. Install and configure Oracle XE
    sudo dpkg --install ./oracle-xe_11.2.0-1.5_amd64.deb
    /etc/init.d/oracle-xe configure
    (This will take a while)
    Remove the /sbin/chkconfig script, which is no longer needed.
    sudo rm /sbin/chkconfigh4. C.4. Relocate and Configure the Oracle user login
    The Oracle XE installer specifies /u01/app/oracle as the login directory for the Oracle user. Although not really necessary, the following will relocate the Oracle user $HOME to a standard location and create standard /etc/skel login files:
    Exit all Oracle user sessions:
    sudo /etc/init.d/oracle-xe stop
    sudo kill -9 `ps -ef | grep oracle | grep -v grep | awk '{print $2}'`
    sudo userdel oracle
    sudo useradd -s /bin/bash -G dba -g dba -m oracle
    sudo passwd oracle
    Verify:
    sudo id oracle
    -> uid=1001(oracle) gid=1001(dba) groups=1001(dba)h4. C.5. Setup Oracle environment variables
    In order to use sqlplus and other tools, the Oracle account requires certain environment variables. The following will set these variables automatically at every interactive Oracle login:
    sudo echo '. /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/xe/bin/oracle_env.sh' >> /home/oracle/.bashrch4. C.6. Oracle sudo root access
    It is not essential to allow the Oracle user to use sudo, but it is convenient:
    usermod -G admin oracle
    Verify:
    id oracle
    -> uid=1001(oracle) gid=1001(dba) groups=1001(dba),120(admin)
    sudo su -
    -> Enter Oracle account passwordh4. C.7. Oracle 11g XE Post-installation
    After you install Oracle Database XE, its graphical user interface is only available from the local server, but not remotely.
    The following will correct the problem if necessary:
    Login as user Oracle or use:
    su - oracle
    sqlplus / as sysdba
    At the SQL prompt, enter the following command:
    EXEC DBMS_XDB.SETLISTENERLOCALACCESS(FALSE);
    exith3. D) Unintstall, Reconfigure and Troubleshooting
    h4. D.1. Uninstall Oracle 11g XE
    The following will completely uninstall and remove Oracle 11g XE:
    Login as user root:
    sudo su -
    /etc/init.d/oracle-xe stop
    dpkg --purge oracle-xe
    rm -r /u01/app
    rm /etc/default/oracle-xe
    update-rc.d -f oracle-xe removeh4. D.2. Reconfigure Oracle 11g XE
    Type the following in a terminal window:
    /etc/init.d/oracle-xe stop
    sudo rm /etc/default/oracle-xe
    /etc/init.d/oracle-xe configureh4. D.3. Enable Archivelog mode and perform a database backup
    Login as user Oracle:
    su - oracle

    Regards and best of luck!
    Edited by: Dude on May 25, Version B: various corrections. chkconfig package (A.2.) not required.

    even though I am admin user.Admin user is a MS Windows term, that does not apply to Linux or Unix in the same fashion.
    The configuration script tells you "You must be root user to run the configure script. Login as root user and
    then run the configure script."
    This is most likely correct because your account is not root and does not have UID 0. What you can do is to login as root e.g. sudo su -, as the message suggest, or use "sudo /etc/init.d/oracle-xe configure", provided your account is defined in the /etc/sudoers file to perform root/admin actions.
    Btw, do not modify /etc/passwd and /etc/group to give you admin privileges or try to create a another root account under a different name. That's not the way it works and usually leads to nasty problems.

  • I am tryed to install ubuntu 14.4 lts along with windows 8.1 in my HP 2000 - 2d49tu

    I am tryed to install ubuntu 14.4 lts along with windows 8.1 in my  HP 2000 - 2d49tu, but ubuntu does not detect windows 8.1 in the system

    It is critically important for you to have created Recovery media before attempting to create a dual boot installation. Make sure that it works by performing a Factory Image recovery.
    Make sure that the Ubuntu type matches the Windows 8,1 type. That is critical for a dual boot installation.
     A 64-bit OS type will see or recognize other 32 and 64-bit operating system.
    If you have a 32-bit Ubuntu it will not see Windows 8.1 as being present.
    A 64-bit version of Ubuntu will work well with a 64 or 32-bit version of Windows 8.1.
