Lenovo e540 flaws/complaint, just my device or normal

Excuse me for my somewhat poor English, but I hope it is still understandable.
I've been using the e540 for a few weeks now and I've noticed a few problems and complaints and was wondering if it is a normal problem or that my device is suffering some manufacturing flaws. Also I'm wondering if some of these are covered by the warranty.
1. The screen bezels seems to be scratching the area above and below the keyboard. It seems to be the exact area where the display goes over to the bezels
2. The audio from the 3.5 audio jack seems to give some random static noice when playing flash video's (eg. youtube)
3. The corners are quite sharp, and it's constantly scratching my wrist when I'm moving my fingers to type.
3. The touchpad gesturing in w8 seems to randomly go off until I reopen the touchpad setting.
5. Display on integrated settings eems really blurry/washy, most notably text is definitely not crisp
6. Disk usage ist 100% most of the time, making the device sluggish, but this seems to be a windows problem
I was hoping I could get some advice, since the customer service wouldn't reply. I still have a week to return this product but I really like the imput devices, battery life as well as the fps I get in games, considering the price I paid, but these "issues" are really starting to annoy me.

For the noise problem, the new bios update 2.13 seems to include a fix ( check at the changelog) - altough i haven't tested it because it probably won't be downgrade-able and doesn't support disabling the build-in FN+C/S shortcuts - which makes the computer pain in the ass for using.
The noise is coming when using hardware GPU accelerated apps or games.
About the bezels, it's good for me. But i can see "fingerpints" from the keyboard to the display...
Corners - no problem here.
Touchpad is working fine on Win 8.1 for me.
About the blurry display, i belive you don't have this problem in every app. And you have a Full HD screen.
It's because windows has turned on app/font rescale to 125%. It's to make all the apps/icons/fonts a bit bigger and easyer to be seen. But some apps doesn't support it quite good, and when they're rescaled they look blurry.
You can try playing with different options and change the seetings by right clicking on the desktop --> screen resolution-->Make text and other things larger or smaller.
From there you have an options to choose between 100/125/150% scale.
Or custom. Try playing with it. If you put it on 100%, there would be no blury font's but everything would be small. This is per-app problem.

I found a solution !!!
The problem is that the font SEGOE UI MAGER (one of the fonts) is not installed.
When you go on this link, you can download the missing font !
http://fontzone.net/font-details/Segoe+UI/
download this, open it and go on install !
Then you open your Itunes and your Text is there again. Maybe its a little bit to big but, its there !!!

Lenovo E540 - Dual External Monitors

Hi,
This question is about the Lenovo E540 laptop (with HD Graphics 4600 or 4400).
1.I would like to know if its possible to connect two external monitors to the laptop (using hdmi and vga ports together) - resulting in 3 active screens (laptop screen + 2 external monitors) while using Extend Mode ?
2.What is the max resolution's for the HDMI and VGA ports for external monitors?
I've search your forums and looked up using Google but i couldn't find any answers

Lenovo E540 – 2 Monate alt – Windows startet nicht mehr. Klingt vertraut – sind einige Themen genau hierzu vorhanden – Fehlkauf??? Nach dem Einschalten kommt das erste Fenster-Symbol und die drehenden Punkte.Ich denke das ist noch komplett vor dem Windows-Start.Dann wird der Bildschirm schwarz und Ende.Ich habe sämtliche Lenovo-Diagnostik-Tools laufen lassen – demnach ist ALLES in Ordnung.Nach Anruf bei Lenovo soll ich den Labtop einschicken.Problem – die Daten auf der Festplatte!Also HDD ausbauen und mit Adapter an USB an Lenovo Z710 anschließen.HDD wird erkannt – mit 0 Byte Speicherplatz – keine Daten lesbar.Sch..... - HDD (WD-blue 1 TB) defekt?Western-Digital-Diagnostik-Tool laufen lassen – too much bad sectors.Lenovo-Diagnostik-Tool ist diesbezüglich also schon mal auf dem Holzweg.Andere alte HDD in Lenovo E540 eingebaut und Ubuntu aufgespielt – läuft super.Labtop ist also tatsächlich in Ordnung – nur die HDD ist nach nur 2 Monaten defekt.Und nu – meine Daten??Beim diesbezüglichen googeln stosse ich auf die Bemerkung – versuchs doch mal an Linux.Hm – ich hab doch gerade Ubuntu aufgespielt.Also defekte HDD mit Adapter an USB an Lenovo E540 mit Ubuntu angeschlossen.ALLE DATEN SIND LESBAR!!Mit Ubuntu kann ich 800 GB Daten auf eine externe Festplatte retten :-))))))Die defekte HDD habe ich komplett formatiert – Speicherplatz wird nun wieder erkannt – aber erneuter Test bringt wieder „too much bad sectors“.Also die ist nix mehr – Lenovo hat mir problemlos Ersatz geschickt.Mit neuer HDD läuft Lenovo E540 wieder top.Viele Grüße Hans

Lenovo e540 High tempreture valies due to high load

Dear support, I would like to report that my lenovo e540 is reaching really high tempreture values. While playing games (HOTS) the laptop reaches around 80-85 C degrees.
Since i had upgraded to Windows 10 Pro I had two freezes on different evenings.
When the laptop reaches high tempretures, the ventilator kinda does not want to go "man" mode and cool up the machine.
I know that that the vent can do more I've heard it when I was updating bios(current v2.19).
On a stress test I managed to reach 95 C degrees! No freeze!
I opened the back cover, there is no dust accumulation on vent or grill. I am using only flat surfaces!.
Please advice how to procceed or is it normal.

Welcome to Lenovo Forums!
You can limit the max CPU ratio via power option,
To do it via the Power Options, right click the battery icon (or electrical plug icon) in the lower left corner of the screen, then...
Select a power plan and then click "Change plan settings"
Click "Change Advanced Power Settings"
Look for "Processor power management" and expand it
Expand "Maximum processor state"
And also request you to update the power management from below given link.

You can now enter the percentage usage of the CPU while the laptop is plugged in.

Yes, just install as you normally would using the serial number you originally used.
You did not have to uninstall on the old machine - with your single user license you are allowed to have two activated installations. So feel free to reinstall it if those are the only two machine you plan to have it on and you'd like to have a backup installation.

Flex is a client side application. You could send them from
one client and
then request them from the other client, or you could use
something like
BlazeDS to "push" the information.

Any reinstallation is not going to be successful if you have invalid node structure. You have bigger fish to fry here than worrying about DVD access.

We can't really narrow down whether it is the DVD or anything else at this time.
If you don't have a backup of the information it is probably toast if you cannot get Disk Utility to work. I would normaly suggest DIsk Warrior but that is a $79 gamble if you are not sure if the drive is working or not. It may be your last hope to recover whatever you can from the drive.
Also, what was the original OS installed on the machine before it crashed? Was it 10.6 or was it the 10.5.7 you mentioned?

Lenovo E540 video problems on Windows 8.1

Hi,
I've just recently bought a Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E540 with the following configuration:
- i7-4702MQ(2.2GHz)
- 4GB RAM
- 500GB 7200rpm HD
- 15.6in 1920x1080 LCD
- 2GB NVIDIA N14P-GV2
- CDRW/DVDRW
- Intel 802.11bgn wireless
- 1Gb Ethernet, UltraNav
- Secure Chip
- Fingerprint reader
- Camera
- 6c Li-Ion
- Dos license
The first thing i did was to install Windows 8.1, as it seems that it's the preffered OS for this laptop.
After this, i've installed all the drivers from the Lenovo Support site and all the programs that i normally use.
This is when everything went wrong.
In Photoshop CS6 i cannot zoom in and out, the image always stays the same. Only if i minimize and maximize Photoshop does the program refresh the image at the selected zoom level.
In Sketchup the same problem, if i try to rotate or pan the image, nothing happens. After minimize/maximize, the image is refreshed.
After a small research, i've discovered that i can change the prefferd video adapter from the Nvidia Control Panel.
Everything was set to Intel HD4600 so i changed all the mentioned programs to GeForce 740M.
This didn't solve the problem, but changed it. In Photoshop for example, this time the canvas doesn't appear at all.
So, a little research later and i found out that by disabling the hardware acceleration in each program, they started working.
This works on either of the video adapters, it doesn't matter which one is selected in the Nvidia Control Panel.
So i thought that i had it figured out, even though a new laptop isn't supposed to work like this, bypassing hardware acceleration in almot all programs
But the problem appeared in Microsoft Office:
In Microsoft Word, i can't change the text color.
In Microsoft Powerpoint, i can't change the background color.
Even if i disable the hardware acceleration, the problem is still there.
Finally i decides that maybe the operating system has an incompatibility with the drivers, so i formatted all and installed an older Windows 7 that i had.
Everything installed from scratch, drivers and programs.
This time all the programs worked (Photoshop CS5, Sketchup 8, Word and Powerpoint 2010) from the start, without disabling the hardware acceleration.
But the next day, when i wanted to use Powerpoint, the problem came back. The background color doesn't change, and in Word i can't change text color. Even if i disable the hardware acceleration.
So i'm back at the beginning.
I've honestly thought of returning the laptop, as it's the first one with which i've had all these endless problems.
Unfortunately, the store's 30-days back guarantee have passed, almost all of them trying to make it work as it should.
If anyone has any idea about this or has confronted any of these problems, please tell, i just don't know what else to do, the laptop is currently useless.

Lenovo E540 keyboard not working

Hi All, I have a E540 laptop which is having a feww issues with the keyboard. The numbers 12347890 do not work along the top and 3 on the numbers pad doesn't work I have tried installing newest drivers uninstalling the keyboard from device managemetn a system restore changed a key in regedit also. Im really struggling for ideas but seems like it is an issue with the software and not the hardware? any help is greatly appreaciated Cheers Alan

The sound drivers for Thinkpad Edge E540 might have been damaged or corrupted, so sound is not working. You need to select 'Audio' under 'Component' and choose your operating system under 'Operating system' from below link. Download and install audio drivers and check now if sound is working.

'Unknown device' in Lenovo Solution Center, but not in Device Manager

Even with all the latest updates installed, I still get this annoying warning from Lenovo Solution Center
'Unknown device' - status 'not installed'
Control Panel / Device Manager gives no signals something is wrong.
why?!
Details:
Computer: Thinkpad Yoga (TPY)
OS: Windows 8.1 all updated
Lenovo Solution Center version: 2.2002 / revision 17630
External device attached to TPY: OneLink Pro (also has latest driver = Realtek 8.10.1009.2013)

Lenovo's own update programs ('L-Update and Drivers' & 'L-System Health and Diagnostics') inform me that all drivers are up to date.

Lenovo T60 Modem has disappeared from device manager and reinstallation of modem driver fails

When using Earthlink/Dial-Up, the IE7 browser froze. It had been working fine for about a month. I rebooted the server and suddenly, Earthlink/Dail-Up stopped working. In troubleshooting the issue, I found that the modem did not appear in Device manager. After researching the Lenovo website, it indicated that I should reinstall the modem driver. However, when reinstalling the modem driver, I get the error: Driver Installation Failed: Could not find the device for this driver.
I went into BIOS and hid/enabled the modem and that still did not work.
What am I missing or what should I do to resolve this issue?

I have a similar situation. I am trying to install the modem and the downloaded driver setup says it cannot find the device. BIOS says "enable" (as opposed to "hide") but it is like the modem weren't there

Sporadic Rotating Loss of Internet Connection for Just Some Devices

Hi,
We've been having a problem where one or two of our devices (phones, laptops, iPads, Apple TV) lose internet connection for 10-30 sec at a time, while the others are fine.
As best as I can tell it's a full loss of connection, not just something running very slowly due to us pushing the bandwidth limits. I've experienced the latter elsewhere and this manifests very differently. It will instantly and fully disconnect a person from an online game or drop a skype call without the accompanying prolonged lag or distortion of bottlenecked bandwidth.
It happens at all times of day, and does not seem related to our peak times of bandwidth usage, nor the general public's peak times of usage.
We should have enough bandwidh for our usage, and usually we do. Our system is 25/25 Mbps and during our peak use at most we would probably have 1 laptop gaming, 1 HD video stream, and 2 non-HD streams. However, like I said before, the problem seems unrelated to overall bandwidth usage. The same problem occurs even at midnight when our local usage is minimal.
Overall we have 6 laptops, 5 phones, an iPad, 2 microcell signal boosters, and Apple TV, in total connected to the FiOS. We have a property with tenants where the signal is distributed via 3 WiFi routers and one direct ethernet cable to my laptop, and one to the Apple TV.
It happens on devices that are both connected through the WiFi (wife's laptop, phones, iPad) and ethernet (my laptop, Apple TV). It can happen with devices that are a few unobstructed feet from the WiFi router. However, it anecdotely seems to happen more on our phones than laptops.
My hunch is it is something outside our local network. This is because our equipment and usage has basically remained unchanged over the last couple months. (We got one new microcell tower for a different carrier, one new wifi router, but overall same # of people and patterns of usage.) And yet the problem seems to be getting worse. Back in probably early November I don't remember this problem occuring at all.
My second best guess is there are more devices connected to the network than it can handle simultaneously, and it rotates which gets kicked off. Maybe this was occuring before but we didnt realize it.
My third guess is it has to due with signal interference with the various WiFi routers and microcell boosters. However, this seems less likely since it also affects devices connected via ethernet cables.
Any thoughts or advice is much appreciated! Thanks!

Ok, so in the mean time we decided to upgrade our service so I've only tried this solution now.
My problem though now is I can log into 192.168.1.1, then give my verizon admin password, and then set my channel preference. That seems fine for changing the main network input and wifi router (call it A).
However, we have another wifi router (call it B) which is fed from A via a cable. I cannot figure out how to change B's wifi channel. Therefore I worry if we have only switched A, since A feeds B (as well as the 2 microcells) they will all still be on the same channel and therefore still interfering with each other.
I have tried www.routerlogin.net (and .com) as written on my netgear router and I get "http://searchassist.verizon.com/" telling me "Sorry, We could not find www.routerlogin.net". I have also tried logging into wifi router B via all the 192.168.1.X addresses I see listed on the Verzion account when I log in via 192.168.1.1 (in total I tried all the 192.168.1.[1-24] options).

Lenovo E540 sound not working

I have a Thinkpad Edge, E540. Today, I turned on the computer and there was no sound. The computer is not muted. It will not play the sound from videos, music or even when turned on and off.
It was working fine the last time I used it and it was not dropped/damaged. I have turned it on an off, taken the battery out, moved the volume up and down and muted/unmuted it and nothing has worked. Other than the sound, everything is working fine.
Pleae help! I've tried to troubleshoot based on things I found on the Internet/Lenovo support but can't figure it out.
