Lenovo G50-30 Unable to access BIOS settings after Windows recovery

Hi
I recently 'downgraded' a recently purchased Lenovo G50-30 with preinstalled Windows 8.1 to Windows 7 using a UEFI USB install on a GPT partition. I also updated the BIOS from A7CN40WW to the latest A7CN43WW and all was working fine. However, after performing a necessary restore of an system image created using the Windows 7 backup and restore tool, I am suddenly unable to access the BIOS settings, either with the novo button (I do get the menu to select BIOS) or with Fn +F2. All that happens is that I receive a blank screen with a static cursor in the upper left corner. I can however still access the boot menu Fn +F12. This is a particular pain as I obviousl can't select USB 3.0 in BIOS.
Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

OK, I managed to clear CMOS by disassembling and desoldering a leg off the the RTC battery but to no avail. The problem seems to be that BIOS a7cn43ww itself has somehow been corupted. In theory this should be able to be resolved by a reflash. The trouble here is there seems to be no way to reflash with a current or previous BIOS version, so I'll have to either wait for a newer version or someone may know better.
C'mon Lenovo support this simply isn't good enough. It's a brand new laptop and I'm considering returning it for a refund.

  • Accessing BIOS settings on a K430

How do you access the BIOS settings on a K430, to, say, change the boot order for devices?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    hi penguin247,
The following methods will allow you to access the BIOS on the Ideacentre K430:
    1. Restart the PC and continuously tap F1 on the lenovo screen
    2. For Windows 8 models, navigate to the UEFI Firmware Settings
Once you're in the BIOS, navigate to the Startup Tab > Primary Boot Sequence to change the boot order of the installed devices.

  • U410 Touch unable to access BIOS

    Hello All,
I purchased a new U410 touch and i am very happy with it.
I attempted to install the Windows 8.1 preview then restored to a backup since i didn't do my research and realized that the RC was almost released...
I changed the bios options to be legacy with uefi first.
On completion of the restore I noticed that the bios is not accessible...
I tried different access methods... f2, shift_ f2, one key recovery and selecting "uefi firmware settings" in troubleshooting for windows 8... all to no avail... then tried a factory reset and the same problem.
Is there any chance that there is a bios update drifting around the internet to reflash the bios?
My next step is to remove the hard drive and ssd to see if there is something wrong in the file system somewhere on the hidden partitions... then to remove the CMOS battery to hopefully reset the BIOS... although i did manage to restore the system to my backup, so i do have a fully working system at the moment... just missing the BIOS settings....
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
added below on 03-sep-2013 22:16 UTC:
I removed the hard disk and ssd and booted up again... still no bios settings...
Anyone know if the bios is compatible with any other machines?
    Again... any help appreciated...

    hi danielsena,
    Welcome to the Forums.
Your issue might be similar to this thread.
It's possible that the UEFI firmware in the BIOS got corrupted for some reason and one way to solve it is to reflash the BIOS (see this article - this is for another model but same aspects apply). For now, yYou may need to bring it in to reflash the BIOS as there's no available download yet on the lenovo website.

  • Unable to Access BIOS

I have a Pavillion Elite e9280f desktop.   When I start the computer, I'm prompted to press F10 to enter the BIOS settings.  However, pressing F10 has no effect - I've pressed it once, I've pressed it repeatedly, I've held the F10 key down - in all cases, the boot process continues after a few seconds and I get "Starting Windows".   I'm wondering if this is related to the HP USB keyboard that came with the PC, but mostly I'm wondering how I can access the BIOS settings if pressing the F10 does not work!!
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

I finally solved the problem of not being able to access the BIOS. First, I realized that my keyboard was plugged into an external USB Hub instead of directly into a USB port on the computer. Moving the keyboard to a USB port on the computer allowed F10 to be recognized and the PC showed the "Entering Setup" message, however, the PC just hung at that point.
I then unplugged all non-essential items from the PC and restarted. This time F10 actually got me into the BIOS settings. By process of elimination, I determined it was the external USB hub that was hanging the PC when it was attempting to enter Setup. I have no idea why that should be a low level issue, but hopefully this post will save someone else many frustrating moments trying to access the BIOS.

I checked BIOS settings too - there's also Wi-Fi enabled
    help!!
and as i can see, most lenovo have this problem why??? alot of people in this forum also complaning the same issues..

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    hi Nitesh,
The "No Appropriate Driver to be installed" error usually pops up if the installer can't find the specific hardware ID(s) to install the necessary drivers. This may happen if you have a different type of bluetooth adapter (eg. Intel wireless +bluetooth combo)
    Can you try the following:
    1. If the Network Controller (wireless adapter) is present under Device Manager, can you install these drivers first and reboot if necessary:
    Lenovo Energy Manager
    21.4MB
WLAN Driver (Atheros, Broadcom, Realtek, Intel)
    267MB
    2. When finished, check if you can now see the wireless and bluetooth adapter under Device Manager (see Bluetooth and Network Adapters) and press the airplane mode key (F7) to enable these devices.
       - Sample Image
Let me know how it goes.

  • Cannot Access BIOS or Boot Windows 8 After Changing UEFI BIOS to Legacy BIOS

    Acer V7-751, 500G HD, Windows 8.
I changed the BIOS settings from UEFI to Legacy BIOS when I was working on a problem. Now I can't even get into the BIOS (F2)
or change the Boot Order (F12). All I get is an error "Operating System not found". I can boot with a Win7, Win8, or Win8,1 DVD. I suppose I could boot with just about anything else bootable as well.
The problem seems to be caused because it's set to Legacy BIOS and Secure Boot Manager as default #1 boot device. Legacy BIOS
can't boot a Win8 drive that has been installed under UEFI (Secure Boot). I have to change the BIOS back to EUFI to boot the WIn8 drive, but the only way to change the BIOS is from within Win8. It's a very flawed way of doing things but it's the way it is.
Does anyone have any suggestions that they KNOW work. Please don't Google answers. I've already done that. And please (please)
don't tell me to power on and press "F2" (or any other key) to go into BIOS. If I could do that I wouldn't be posting.
Once again, I cannot get into the BIOS without going into Windows first. I cannot load Windows because the install was done
under UEFI. I cannot change from Legacy to UEFI because I can't get into the BIOS.

In this case, I flashed the BIOS with a newer version of the BIOS/Firmware and that returned everything to the Defaults (not Legacy BIOS). I believe you could also flash with the same version. I don't think you could flash with an earlier version, but no harm
in trying it. if you've flashed the BIOS previously, you may be able to restore the previous copy. It all depends on the manufacturer and how they handle flashing the BIOS.
I wasn't able to, but you may also be able to boot from a correctly formatted USB drive with another OS (Windows XP/Vista/7) because Legacy BIOS allows you to boot from external devices. Essentially, you need to be able to boot from a valid OS that is not on
the Hard Drive that was configured using the UEFI BIOS setting.
Please let me know if you have any more questions, and I'll do what I can to help. If this solves your problem, please mark my post as the answer. Thank you.
