Lenovo G50-70 HDD Ticking Sound

Hi I bought my laptop last august, now its HDD makes ticking sound when idle but it is fully functional. That sound is very annoying .

Hi Stchoy903,
Welcome to the Forums.
As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with unable to detect external HDD and DVD ROM in your Lenovo G50-70 laptop.
Check any other USB devices like pen drive, or your mobile through USB cable and check if the devices are detected? If yes then it might be issue with the external HDD and DVD rom, also check this devices in other USB ports as well.
Boot the system into and check if the USB ports are enabled, if disabled enable it. Also boot the system into safe mode and check for the issue.
Best regards,

    hi Ashish1793,
If you're running on Windows 7 64bit, can you consider the following:
    1. Navugate to the Control Panel (icon views) > Display Adapters and uninstall both the Intel and AMD Display driver then reboot.
    2. Install the Intel Display Driver first then reboot.
    3. Install the AMD Dislpay Driver (the files will be extracted drivers to the C:\Drivers\VGA folder - overwrite if prompted and reboot if necessary)
When finished,  you should now have both the Intel HD Graphics 4600 and AMD R5 M230 in the Device Manager > Display Adapters
If you get a Code 43 error on the AMD Display Device Manager, try to install the AMD R5 M230 driver directly from AMD website and observe.
If you have Windows 8.1, download the Intel and AMD Display driver from the G50-70 drivers page and install them respectively.

  • Lenovo Z510 hard drive clicking sound

I have Lenovo Z510 and my HDD is producing clicking sounds. When this happens everything becomes frozen until clicking is over.
I has become more frequent these days.
    What can be the problem?
Does Lenovo waranty covers HDD failure?

    Marceticd,
From what you have described it sound like your hard drive is failing.  As Cabbton pointed out now would be a good time to make a backup copy of any important files that you do not wish to lose.  After the backup then contact Lenovo Support for the hard drive replacement.  If your laptop is still under warranty then the hard drive will be replaced as part of the warranty.

What is the error message (exactly as possible) that you are seeing when it turns on?  What you are describing sounds like hard disk failure, but will not no for sure until more informatoin is posted.
Please list the following - as much detail as possible:
    Machine Model (not serial)
Error codes, warning or other messages
Will machine boot into safe mode
    Thanks in advance.

  • Lenovo G50-45 Wireless has dissapeared completely

I have a Lenovo G50-45 that when i bought it worked perfectly. Here recently it seems the wireless adapter has magically vanished and i say that because ive done everything i know to do and ive searched google everywhere but no one seems to have the same issue i do except one person and he was running linux and was able to resolve his issue. I on the other hand havent been able to.This laptop has a bluetooth/wireless card combo. The card handles both connections. The laptop itself has a AMD 8 processor, 4GB ram 1TB HDD running windows 8.1Oneday the laptop just wouldnt connect to wifi. I work on computers alot, and short of replacing the card itself i havent found the solution on my own.The wireless adapter does not show up in network sharing when you click change adapter settings. Only the LAN and bluetooth connections are there. I checked in device manager and there is no missing or improperly installed hardware. Opened the network connections in Device manager and there is no wireless adapter, no WLAN, no wireless anything avaliable there.I have done the following:I uninstalled and reinstalled the bluetooh driver. updated the bluetooh driver.  physically removed the card, started the laptop (the bluetooth connection dissapeared like i expected, turned off the laptop and reinstalled the card and restarted, the bluetooth connection reappeared but not the wireless.I checked in the BIOS. Wireless is enabled. I updated the BIOS. Restored defaults. Still no wireless card.I thought maybe there was an issue within windows 8.1I partitioned the HDD and set off 100GB and installed Windows 7. I didnt think id be able to install the card but i wanted to see if windows 7 detected the hardware. It actually installed the bluetooth card by itself and properly, with an out of date driver im sure but it recognized it.But it did not find the wireless adapter. No wireless card in Device manager in windows 8.1 or a fresh install of windows 7.I ignored that the card wasnt there, and i went to the lenovo site and downloaded the proper up to date drivers. installed them on windows 7 and 8.1. I get the following error message "No appropriate driver to be installed"Now i have a feeling the card itself is to blame. Maybe i have that one card that just wasnt gonna make it. Ive never had a wireless card burn out on me ever but i suppose it is possible. But before i go buying parts, even though its cheap i dont have much money. And the principle of it all, if the card works why should i buy another one? right? its a disgrace to say i work on these devices and be beaten by one of them.  So has anyone had a similar issue? Something i havent yet tried?I would just throw in a wireless adapter i have here but the port on the motherboard is different than what i see in most laptops, i assume because its both wireless and bluetooth. I only have wireless cards laying around, non of them fit properly so i will need to buy a replacement to test. But if anyone can help me out, id appreciate it.

    Hi Kris_hm,
    Welcome to Lenovo Communtiy Forums!
Normal Troubleshooting path on this cases includes
    Power Cycle of the system
Checking of WLAN in BIOS if Enabled (Includes resetting BIOS to defaults)
WLAN card reseating (Removing WLAN card and reconnecting the WLAN again) Includes cleaning of the ports and connectors.
If these are all met - You might need to replace the WLAN card,
The WLAN Card socket supports M.2 / Ngff Connection type
Make sure you get a replacement card that is on this Maintenance Manual WLAN list and has an FRU tag.
This is to avoid getting whitelist problem

  • Y50-70 2015 960 gtx model WIFI and ticking sound

So start it out i'm very pleased with the product, but recently it started to be very frustrating to use. My WIFI worked fine until, some weeks ago, could game very easily no lags from network. But now i have lag spikes and i don't know where it comes from because i have good  ms. And when i did that full recovery it worked all day/night until i turned off my computer then when i started to play today it's back. That annoying lag spikes, i guess it's a windows update that's interfering with my WIFI. Ive tried uninstall just all network drivers and reinstall but its still there.
    Second issue:
Have some weird sounds from pc whens its idle, like a ticking sound . But it goes away when i do some stuff on the pc or i just don't hear it due to fans and other sounds.
Ive contacted support but i thought it's good to write the problems here for future reference.

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !
Regards the wifi issue.... have you tried going into Windows Device Manager and uninstalling the wifi adapter and then reboot the computer.  After the reboot, Windows will automatically reinstall the wifi.  That might correct the problem.
Regards the ticking.... check out the discussion below for a possible solution to the problem......

  • Lenovo G50-70 Screen Not Working

I have a Lenovo G50-70 laptop that is 6 months old.  Two weeks ago I noticed that when I would turn the laptop on the screen would not immediately come on.  It took a few minutes before the display would show up even though I could hear the fan running. A few days later I took the laptop to a family members house and when I went to turn the laptop on I noticed the screen again did not immediately turn on.  I heard the fan running and the lights on the front were lit up.  I then noticed that the screen had a vague flicker to it.  I left the laptop on for five hours and the display never came on.  I finally had to hold the power button down until the laptop turned off and then took it home.  Once home I turned it on and again the fan was on, lights were on, but no display.  I left it plugged in all night and when I woke up in the morninng the screen was back on.  It has done this to me twice now and it seemed that after several hours the screen would come on. The laptop is doing this again however it had been four days and the screen is still flickering black and will not turn on.  Any ideas on what the problem is or what I can do? I do not have an external monitor I can use to test but I did hook the laptop up to my T.V. through the HDMI cable and the screen did not show up on the T.V. either. I tested the HDMI cable with a different laptop and it worked. Any help would be appreciated..

  • How to retrieve data from a ticking sound HD?

    Hey Folks.
Here's how's it all started: http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=8353054#8353054 I turned on my computer 3 weeks ago and saw a folder with a ? mark.
So I took it in the Apple store and the HD got replaced, now the data on the old hard disk is with the tech guys trying to retreieve the data off of it. But when I spoke to him yesterday he told me there is a slim chance to retrieve the data <edited by host>.
So I'm asking you gurus is it likely to retreieve the data from a ticking sound HD? I really need the stuff I had on my old hard disk there are so many photos of me travelling the world and just so much memories, it would really be a disaster if I lose all of that
To make my story even worse, when I backed up all my images on my external hard drive, I was flying back from Canada to Dubai, and I had my luggage stolen with my hard disk and 2 blackberry bolds, so Im really out of luck
    PLZ HELP!
    Thanks.

    A couple days ago I contacted DriveSavers.com and she quoted me the following;
    -SERVICE OPTIONS AND PRICING
Our pricing is based on the drive capacity, the operating system and
turnaround time. The final cost is based on the complexity of the
recovery and the final recovery results.
The data recovery estimate for the 120GB Hard Drive you described is:
    • Standard Service (1-2 business days): $900-3900 (successful
    recovery will fall between $2800 - $3900)
$200 attempt fee if the data is unrecoverable
    • Economy Service (5-7 business days): $500-2700 (successful recovery
    will fall between $1800 - $2700)
$200 attempt fee if the data is unrecoverable
    • Priority Service (24 hrs. / 7 days a week): $1800-8900 (successful
    recovery will fall between $7900 - $8900)
$800 attempt fee if the data is unrecoverable
Please Note: DriveSavers will never exceed the amount quoted.
That's nuts. Im ganna try my luck with DRD.ae in Dubai and see how much they charge, let me give them a call now and will post a comment in a bit.

  • Lenovo G50-30 - "No Bootable Device" error message when trying to install windows 7 via DVD-ROM.

Hi all, Recently purchased a Lenovo G50-30 as a birthday present. After recieving the laptop, I tried putting a fresh install of Windows 7 64 Bit onto it. After changing the BIOS settings to allow legacy booting from the DVD drive and changing OS Settings to Win 7, I noticed I was getting an error reading "No Bottable Device -- Insert boot disk and press any key". After googling for a few hours on how to fix this I am still stumped and nothing seems to work. Has anyone had a similar issue or would know how to fix this?

    Hi omegafeggy,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
Im kind of confused with the sequence.
Have you installed Windows 7 first then change the BIOS or You changed the BIOS first then Load Windows 7.

  • Can't find drivers for Lenovo G50-30 for Windows 7 32-bit

    Hi,
I can't find drivers for Windows 7x32 bit for my new Lenovo G50-30. Looks like Lenovo support doesn't have them. Am I wrong?

    hi ziris,
    Can you try these drivers:
    Chipset:
Intel® Chipset Device Software (INF Update Utility)
    Bluetooth:
Bluetooth Driver (Intel, Atheros, Realtek, Broadcom)
    Camera:
    (AVC, Bison) Camera Driver
If the  above drivers doesn't fix the unknown device under Device Manager, can you follow this guide on how to install the drivers via their Hardware ID or you may want to consider installing Windows 7 64bit (this would be best if you'll be utilizing 4GB RAM and above).

  • Lenovo G50-30 Unable to access BIOS settings after Windows recovery

    Hi
I recently 'downgraded' a recently purchased Lenovo G50-30 with preinstalled Windows 8.1 to Windows 7 using a UEFI USB install on a GPT partition. I also updated the BIOS from A7CN40WW to the latest A7CN43WW and all was working fine. However, after performing a necessary restore of an system image created using the Windows 7 backup and restore tool, I am suddenly unable to access the BIOS settings, either with the novo button (I do get the menu to select BIOS) or with Fn +F2. All that happens is that I receive a blank screen with a static cursor in the upper left corner. I can however still access the boot menu Fn +F12. This is a particular pain as I obviousl can't select USB 3.0 in BIOS.
Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

OK, I managed to clear CMOS by disassembling and desoldering a leg off the the RTC battery but to no avail. The problem seems to be that BIOS a7cn43ww itself has somehow been corupted. In theory this should be able to be resolved by a reflash. The trouble here is there seems to be no way to reflash with a current or previous BIOS version, so I'll have to either wait for a newer version or someone may know better.
C'mon Lenovo support this simply isn't good enough. It's a brand new laptop and I'm considering returning it for a refund.

  • Mac Mini(Late 2014) - Tick Sound

Hello Apple User's. I just purchased a new Mac Mini late 2014 a month back. I had no problems initially after setting up my mac for the first time. I'm Currently working with Apple as a Technical Support Advisor in level 1. I was doing R&D on my mac and happened to corrupt the OS. Hence did IR and Re-installed the OS.I hear these tick noises only after re-installing OS. Hence I'm pretty sure the OS build which I got by default with mac was the best compatible OS. Now after doing IR I have 10.10.1 with a different build. I'm 100% sure it has to do with the build of my OS. Anyways I'm trying to find a solution for the same. Hence I would suggest all the Apple fans to keep an eye on this section.

Well I'm sorry for the late reply. But I'm back with a Solution for the "Tick Sounds" on the Mac's. After researching carefully, I happened to learn that , the Tick noise in SSD HD is because of the Head Parking of the pointer on the HD. Hence in order to get rid of the Tick sound, I would suggest all , to turn off/Disable the option "Put hard disk to sleep whenever possible" in Energy Saver section of System Preferences. Thus when the system is idling or in use (awake), you don't get to hear the Tick Sound's. Well after careful observation for almost a month now, I hardly get to hear the Tick Sound once in a day or so.
In Energy Saver "Put HD to sleep whenever possible" is more useful to portables like, MacBook Pro or MacBook Air , since it will consume less battery, and thus enhance the battery life but not for machines like iMac/Mac Mini.
Also some people have installed some 3rd party utilities like Hard Disk Advanced Power Management (HDAPM) to minimise the head parking or reduce the Tick Sound. I would personally not suggest to go for it, since it will change the default behaviour of the HD set by the manufacturer and may corrupt the HD and it may eventually fail. But if you would really like to give it a try, go for HD SPY utility in Mac Appstore , since Apple would have released the utility after taking due consideration in the Appstore.
And for tbirdvet, thank's for the response. I will have to read more about the mechanism on how the Fusion Drive work's and then take a call on it.
Nevertheless I would appreciate if anyone comes out with a different solution for the Tick Sounds from the HD.

  • Lenovo G50 BIOS in this system is not fully ACPI compliant

    Hello everybody !
I kinda have a problem as the title states. My neighbour has a Lenovo G50 she bought and came with windows 8.1 x64 ( which she doesn't like at all and in my opinion win7 is far more superior ). The thing is I wanted to install her the Windows 7 Ultimate but everytime the " loading files " ends right after it boots from the dvd I get a bsod with the message " The BIOS in this system is not fully ACPI compliant Stop 0x000000A5 "
I tried all kind of different settings through the bios, changed from UEFI boot to Legacy / disabled secure boot / fast boot / I set the ACHI to compatible / but the end result is almost the same ( two times with different settings my screen froze with a red line over the top after loading the files )
My question is what is the problem and is there a fix for it? (of course it is,but I don't know it )
     Thanks !

    Hello
I yust got my lenovo G50-30 and wanted to install win 7 on it. after the first BsoD I went to bios and changed the AHCI to legacy mode. Got the same BsoD.  After that I changed the Os mode from win 8 to win 7 ... loaded the factory default settings and putted from AHCI to legacy mode again.
After that the laptop turns on, but it stucks at lenovo logo. I cant access the bios anymore to make any other changes. If I insert a win7 instalation disc, it start to spin but with no sucess. also cant acess the boot options anymore.
    Any help greatly apreciated

I suggest removing battery and AC, holding the power button for more than 15 seconds to reset the BIOS back to default settings then see if the issue remains.
Make sure to post the results.
