  • Lenovo G505 Wifi Problems - Limited Connection, No Connection, and Dropped Connections

Some forum members have reported a variety of Wifi issues with their G505 laptops. Their reports range from showing "Connection is limited", to Wifi connections dropping repeatedly, to being unable to make a Wifi connection at all. I combined multiple threads in order to assist forum members with troubleshooting solutions.
If your G505 was upgraded to Windows 8.0 or 8.1 and then lost connectivity, or you recently purchased a G505 running Windows 8.0 or 8.1 and are unable to connect, try following the instructions posted by Vikramsbox to restore the connection through the Lenovo Communications Utility.
For non-Windows 8.0 or 8.1 users, start troubleshooting with the basics:
The most recent WLAN, BIOS, and Power Management drivers from Lenovo can be downloaded here: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/lenovo-g-series-laptops/lenovo-g505-no...
It is also good practice to verify your Wifi is activated by following the instructions from Neokenchi.
Check Power Management settings to ensure your laptop isn't turning off the Wifi as noted by Dannyk1.
Check to see that Airplane Mode is set to OFF by following the instructions provided by Shiv_K.
After trying those steps, if you still experience a Wifi issue with your G505, other troubleshooting steps have been noted in this thread. This includes a whitelist of accepted replacement WLAN cards posted by Topmahof and a 3rd party driver which resolved wifi issues for Miila and Jessemck125. Please note that while Lenovo does not support 3rd part drivers, it may be an option to consider if your laptop is out of warranty and none of the suggestions in the thread resolve the issue.
    Thanks for your contributions,

First is to update your Atheros/Broadcom driver for your G505 here:http://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles/wlan117w8.exe
From what I understand, the situation is that you get limited connectivity while your other devices that are connected to the router gets uninterrupted internet access.
After updating your drivers, you can try to flush your DNS cache by copy and pasting this code to your notepad and saving it as FlushDNS.bat
    @Echo on
    pushd\windows\system32\drivers\etc
    attrib -h -s -r hosts
    echo 127.0.0.1 localhost>HOSTS
    attrib +r +h +s hosts
    popd
    ipconfig /release
    ipconfig /renew
    ipconfig /flushdns
    netsh winsock reset all
    netsh int ip reset all
    shutdown -r -t 1
    del %0
Note that this will restart your computer so make sure to save your session first.
Here's the link that explains the benefit of flushing DNS: http://www.sevenforums.com/network-sharing/144365-network-posting-tips.html
Hope this resolves your random "limited connectivity" problem.

  • Lenovo g505s Mainboard help.

Hi all, I'm new to the forum and I'm looking for some information regarding replacing the mainbord on a Lenovo g505. basicly the mainboard that is in the laptop has burnt out  due to liquid damage (beyond repair) and to replace the mainboard that is in it is very costly and hard to source. The mainboard that is in is a  Lenovo LA-A092P.
    The specs are:
    AMD A10-5750M cpu
    1tb hd
    8gb ddr3
And I was thinking would any other lenovo mainboard fit this laptop as I know there are a few different types of board that they did and are more easy to get hold of and cheaper. What do you think?
If not then does anyone know where I can source one of these boards from for a resonable price, I live in the Uk.
    Many Thanks all.

    hi Andrews117,
Thanks for the follow up info.
Can you share the link maybe of where you bought it, the actual link
I tried checking the system board for your Modeltype number 59383984
It listed a Motherboard which is
    90003237
    VALGD MB W8S UMA
    SYSTEM BOARDS
This board is a Shared graphics memory and does not have a discrete Video Graphics.
Please send me the link so I can verify if the link or the posted details from where you bought it was the problem.

  • Lenovo G505s A10-5750M 8GB Ram - graphics card?

  • Lenovo G505s: Overheating?

    Hello.
Is it normal for the temperature of the GPU to fluctuate around 60C when I'm not really doing anything on my laptop (Lenovo G505s)? So far it has turned itself off twice because of overheating (I think that's the reason, as each time it was really hot right after I turned it back on). Today I played a video (format: MKV, 1080p), and the temperature went up to 86C after just a few minutes. I figured it was getting a bit too high, so I closed the video for fear that the laptop might turn itself off again.
    What could be the cause?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi DN01,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
I’m sorry to hear that your G505s Laptop is getting overheated, I suggest you to perform “Dust Removal” feature provided in “Lenovo Energy Management” to make sure there is no dust particles in the CPU FAN and also make sure you use the Laptop on a Flat surface to increase the air flow in the Laptop.
Do post us back if the issue still persists.

  • Lenovo G505s wifi slow afrter upgrading to SSD

    Hi,
I have Lenovo G505 (59-380146) (APU Quad Core A10-5750 2.5 Ghz/ 6GB Ram) Windows 7 x64. Upgraded my HDD to SSD (Sandisk SDSSDHP256G FW:X2316RL).System become rapid speed, windows boots in 8-10secs, HD tune transfer rate is between 357.3 and 409.6 MB/sec, simply everything just went perfect except Internet speed... With old HDD it used to be around 36-40Mbps, with SSD its now only around 11-13Mbps... My wireless card is Atheros AR956x. Drivers are up to date and downloaded from Lenovo support website. Tried old HDD - wifi works perfect.
Does anyone knows whats the problem and how to fix it?? I only write here because I tried everything...
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    hi Tomas985
    Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.
Just to check, when you open Device Manager > Network Adapters > Atheros AR956x (properties) > Driver Tab, have you tried comparing the wireless driver version from the old HDD to the new one?
If the drivers are different (it will help if you can list them here) try to re-install the Wireless Driver from the lenovo website or from the D:\Drivers\WLAN folder (old HDD) and ensure that the driver version is:
    Atheros v10.0.0.242 (Windows 8)
    Atheros v10.0.0.263 (Windows 8.1).
If the drivers are the same and you have installed a firewall or security software (eg. Norton, Mcafee, AVG Security Suite, Zone Alarm, etc.), try to temporarily disable or uninstall them and observe.
    Alternatively, try also these drivers:
    - win8-v10.0.0.287-whql.zip
    - Win8x64_6.30.95.29_WHQL.exe
Let me know how it goes.

  • Lenovo G505s and Windows 7

Hello. I currently have Windows 8.1 on my Lenovo G505s but was thinking of downgrading to Windows 7 due to compatibility issues with games. If I downgrade to Windows 7, will I still have my Windows 8 License and be able go back to using Windows 8 if I decide to? Will downgrading to Windows 7 void my warranty? (I read online that it could, and this laptop is only 2 days old.) Does this laptop have drivers that are supported for Windows 7? Also, will the Bios update that fixed slower perfomance speeds work in Windows 7? And my final question, will the one key recovery button work in Windows 7? I read that it returns your laptop to factory settings, so does that mean if I use it it'll install Windows 8 again? I only ask this because my laptop didn't come with the disk. Sorry for all the questions, I'm not really a tech wizard and don't want to risk screwing anything up on a new laptop.

    hi cdeas13,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
If I downgrade to Windows 7, will I still have my Windows 8 License and be able go back to using Windows 8 if I decide to?
         - The Product Key is Embedded in the BIOS, The Product key is as good as your license, You will need to find a way to get a copy of it for future use (reverting back to Windows 8).
Will downgrading to Windows 7 void my warranty?
        - Support for Lenovo Applications Yes it will be voided but for Hardware Problems, those are still covered.
Does this laptop have drivers that are supported for Windows 7? Also, will the Bios update that fixed slower perfomance speeds work in Windows 7?
       - Yes you can find the drivers here
    http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?&DocID=DS035837
I believe that Windows 7 is not affected by the performance issue.
Will the one key recovery button work in Windows 7
If the Harddrive will not be repartitioned or formatted it will still work, a Recovery Disk Can be purchased from Lenovo Support if the Onekey Recovery will have issues.

  • Lenovo G505s Graphic card advice

I am considering buying the G505s. The one with an AMD  A10-5750M processor and 8Gb RAM. This one: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Lenovo-G505s-15-6-inch-Laptop-Black/dp/B00LLE6IAU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=141...
I don't really want a gaming laptop but I want one to use as a general laptop but for casual gaming. I don't expect to be running new games on high graphics setting, but it would be nice if I would be able to play some newish games like Battlefield 4, Simcity, the Sims 4 and GTA IV/GTA V. I have looked online and found that this model is normally quite capable of running some of these games. However, I have a concern about the graphics card: Radeon R5 M230. For some of these games, such as Battlefield 4, youtube videos only seem to show it being played on the same model G505s but with a AMD Radeon HD 8750M graphic card. I've even seen it played on some youtube videos on the same model but the AMD A8 version, which has AMD Dual Graphics : AMD Radeon 8550g + 8570m.
I thought that the version I am considering buying had a better processor and grahics card and is more expensive, so am I correct that I won't be able to play Battlefield 4 and some other games?

When I said that, it was more of an expression.
My G770 can probably run new games but it's not enjoyable, Metro Last Light was running at about ~20 FPS on Minimum settings. Call of Duty Ghosts was ~30 FPS, but it used to drop frames on every few minutes. With the "latest" driver from 2013 I probably wouldn't be able to start the game if I hadn't used 3rd party AMD drivers which served me okay. But I also ran all those games at the native resolution, which in my case is 1600x900. Note that I run a Samsung 840 EVO SSD and I have 8GB RAM.
My point is that a mid range laptop is not meant for gaming, while it can run games there is no guarantee that it will be able to do that in say 2 years. And when I say run, I mean you actually playing. Any PC can run a game, but there's a difference between being able to run it and being able to play it.
I don't know if you're getting the laptop because of the price or you need portability. If it's not the latter, I seriously suggest you to look into a desktop PC. For 650 USD you can build a pretty decent rig, with a monitor and all peripherals. In my honest opinion, I should have done that.
All of this is strictly for AAA games, that are graphics intensive. Simulations, MMOs, RPGs, Indie, Valve games, are all very playable on my computer, even Sims 4, I can run that at medium without issues.
I hope I cleared any confusion. If you have any other questions feel free to ask or PM me.

  • Lenovo G505s upgrade

    Hi Guys
was wondering if you can help me, i bought a Lenovo G505s about 9 months ago 8gb ram, 1tb hhd, amd 7640g, AMD a8 4500m could i upgrade this to a A10 and if so what one, im at work atm so i can give you any more details.
more info im doing this so i can run League of Legends abit better atm i only get about 40 - 60 fps on that and 60 at low.

    hi HomebredTripod,
    Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.
As per this G505s tech specs and from the spare parts image below, the Lenovo G505s can go as much as AMD A10-5750M APU.
    - Link to picture
The upgrade is possible but I don't think it's worth the money that you'll spend on the new CPU as it's a bit expensive and the improvement is not that great.
    - A8-4500M benchmark
    - A10-5750M benchmark (see price here)
IMO, I think it will be much better if you get a new system with a dedicated graphics to boost the FPS while playing games (you can either keep your old Lenovo or sell it to addup to the cost of your new gaming rig).

  • Lenovo G505s Wireless Card not detected no driver

I have a new lenovo g505s that came with windows 8. I removed all windows 8 partitions and installed windows 7. The install went great but I have no drivers. Installing the recomended LAN driver worked just fine and the ethernet is working great, but installing the lenovo recomended WLAN driver failed. (wlan118w7.exe)
There is no networks showing up when I try to connect to a one.
I have no wlan device in device manager, and an unknown 'Network Controller' showing up with yellow exclaimation point.
The qualcomn driver that is distributed by Lenovo fails to install sometimes, stopping on a 'No Appropriate driver to be installed' error, and exiting.
When it does complete the UI installs fine, but shows no mac addresses or packet activity.
Here are the Hardware Ids for the 'Network Controller':
    PCI\VEN_168C&DEV_0036&SUBSYS_302617AA&REV_01
    PCI\VEN_168C&DEV_0036&SUBSYS_302617AA
    PCI\VEN_168C&DEV_0036&CC_028000
    PCI\VEN_168C&DEV_0036&CC_0280
I have tried installing various drivers for this model and a few other similar model wlan cards. I have also tried the windows 8/8.1 drivers for my card.
the default windows 7 drivers definately did not work and windows update didnt help anything.

    hi kr094,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
    You can try this
Download this file and extract it to a folder.
Now Open Device Manager rightclick on that network controller and choose update driver.
when a Window pop up choose Browse my computer for driver software
    You should have this window
Click on the Browse  box and direct it to where you extract the File i asked you to download,
continue with that and it should work,
    Let me know your findings
    Cheers!

  • Lenovo G505 buzzing/rattling right speaker

Bought this laptop from Best Buy, I've only had it a few months. Today the right speaker started to make a terrible rattling/buzzing sound. It started out soft, and now it's a loud nuisance that happens regardless of level of volume I'm using.
I've used headphones, the buzzing doesn't happen with them in. I've unplugged the charger, that has no impact.
Hopefully this machine doesn't need to be serviced already. I'd even be satisfied to avoid being separated from my data by turning off the right speaker, but I only have the option to turn them both off.
Is this a known issue? What are my options for getting it fixed?

    Hi Liahona,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
I’m sorry to hear that there is buzzing noise generating from the right internal speaker and working as expected in the Headphone in your G505 Laptop, I suggest you to perform “System Restore” in the computer, below are the links to perform System restore in Windows 7 & Windows 8.

  • Lenovo G505s Randomly Shutting Down

Hello! I've owned my G505s since August 2014 and it has served faithfully as my school laptop. I do not have any money for a new laptop and I've looked at endless posts and articles, so I'm at my wit's end here.
It all started last night, when my hard drive just failed to boot. It told me there was no OS installed, despite Windows 8.1 being installed. I rebooted a couple times and the same message popped up and I checked the BIOS settings. They were all correct. I assumed that my HDD became corrupted or something occurred, so I found a Windows 8 ISO from Microsoft's website and started installing tonight, since I knew the BIOS stored the key and would auto-input.
That part was successful. The part that's killing me here, though, is the constant shutdowns now. It started ever since I had to reinstall. At first I just put Windows 10 Tech Preview on it to quickly get some work done since I had the install USB with me, but it shut down randomly there too. Now, during the install of the Windows 8.1 OS, it shuts down at random times and corrupts the installation, forcing me to start over and observe the same shutdown issue all over again.
I do not have money to ship it and I'm losing my mind here. I thought Lenovo was good, but I'm seeing others with the same exact problem, and I'm several months away from having enough money for even a cheapo laptop. Can anyone help?
Keep in mind that I can't even get past a Windows 8 install and booting a Live USB of Linux is a no-go because it won't even boot, even if the Legacy option is enabled in the BIOS (seriously? no linux support?)
My BIOS is updated (3.0). Thanks for any help

    hi Chripallo,
    Welcome to the Forums.
It could just be a coincidence but It's possible that there's a hardware part that's failing inside the machine (e.g., Memory, Overheating GPU) which causes the shutdown issues.
    Things that you can try:
    1. Re-seat the RAM and HDD and try reinstalling Windows.
    2. If you have two RAM sticks (e.g., 2x4GB), remove one stick and observe if you can now install Windows.
    3. (Optional) Check this article on how to create a bootable USB diagnostics to test the RAM/HDD.
        - Sample image
    Note:
You will need to set the following options in the BIOS to boot from a  USB
    Security Tab:
    Secure Boot = Disabled
    Exit Tab:
OS Optimized Defaults = Other OS.
    Boot Tab:
    UEFI = Disabled
    Boot Mode = Legacy
If the problem remains and you're still not able to install Windows after doing the above steps then I recommend you contact lenovo for warranty service.
