Hello everyone, I'd like to have some information about Lenovo G510.
1) Is it possible to install window 7 and 8.1 without problems? Are all drivers avaliable and working?
2) Is it possible to have linux working on this notebook?
3) What is building quality like? (also quality of the materials in general)
4) Does the notebook heat a lot?
5)Is there any energy management software for the notebook?
I really hope that someone will be able to answer my questions.. thx very much!

Marc,
You may need to explain a bit more as to what specifically you are looking for.  But, in the in mean time, you might follow this link to our support site which lists all the warranty information.   Following the links from that page, you can check whether your system is under warranty, learn about international warranty coverage, where to call, what countries have warranty service available for which systems, etc.   In addition, the actual warranty terms for the various systems are downloadable as doccuments.
This link will take you from that page to a page where the various service and warranty upgrades are explained, such as upgrading from depot repair coverage to onsite service, or the accidental protection coverages found as part of Thinkpad Protection.
Hopefully the information on these pages will help you with the answers you are looking for.
If not, tell us a bit more about what your looking for...
Best regards,

  • Problem with AMD and Lenovo G510 Notebook

    Hello,
I bought a Lenovo G510 Notebook i7 with both Intel and AMD Radeon 8570 graphic cards and I have to say my (first and only) experience with AMD and Lenovo is being so far totally disgusting.
My problem is that there's no way I can make the computer use the AMD Radeon while playing, I updated the drivers (even following instructions from Lenovo Staff in this forum) and there's no way to do it. I updated it from AMD and Intel webpages and neither works. Right now I have the latest drivers from Lenovo webpage and the computer can't even recognize the AMD graphic card (in Device manager is written as OPAL GT/XL 6604).
I don't know what else to try, I've been trying to look for more solutions in the websites but I have to say they are for me totally a mess and the only thing I got was "update your drivers" once and again. I hope the service is better than the offered in the website.
    Diego

Can you tell me what Windows version are you using? And some other information.
    For example:
    G510
    i5-4200M
    4GB
    500GB
Fresh Windows 8.1 Pro Update 1 x64 (means I did not update but installed fresh after formatting all partitions)
Intel HD 4600 & AMD Radeon HD 8570M
Also post a picture of your Device Manager with Display adapters expanded.

  • Lenovo G510 BSOD on Windows 7 after installing RST Driver

    Hello,
I was hoping to figure this out without having to post but unfortunately I cannot seem to get around the problem. I purchased my laptop (Lenovo G510) last month and immediately upgraded to a SSD and then downgraded to Windows 7. There have been no problems until I was installing the Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver (Link to Driver).
After installing the driver and rebooting I get the BSOD at the main Windows login screen in any of the boot modes (Regular, Safe, Safe with Network, and Safe with Command). The error dump shows that the issue is linked to itaStorF.sys. Normally I would not need this driver installed and I would just use the Windows generic driver but I have decided to replace the ODD with a HDD Caddy with the 1TB HDD that came with the laptop.
I have seen others say that they have used a HDD Caddy with no issues but I get the BSOD error with this driver even before I installed the Caddy. I can install a more up to date driver from Intel but they eject the HDD Caddy when it is detected and they are meant for Windows 8.
I can provide more information if needed as well as error logs. I would greatly appreciate the help from the community! Thanks!
    Quick Computer Info:
    OS: Windows 7 Professional
    SSD: Crucial M550
    HDD: Western Digital WD10JPCX
    HDDCaddy: Link to Caddy page
    Edit:
For some additional information, I have done each of the lenovo diagnostic tests, check disks, and memory tests which all came back as healthy.

The issue seem unrelated to the Instant Client. (Looks like you installed from the "full" Database Client product.)
Anyway, is that Windows 7 64-bit? Then, possibly, the software you installed was 32-bit and the driver shows up in the 32-bit MS ODBC admin tool (in wow64 subsystem, for 32-bit apps).

    hi Punit,
    Welcome to the Forums.
An Inaccessible Boot Device means that the hard drive's fails to load the Boot Configuration Data (BCD) and its necessary files to load the Operating System. This could be due to a corrupted BCD, a boot sector virus, or a damaged boot sector (bad sectors on the HDD).
    Things that you can try:
    Option 1:
If you have access to a command prompt, follow this guide on how to repair the MRR/BCD (see Attempt Two and Three), otherwise, do the following:
     a. On another PC, follow this guide on how to obtain a Windows 8.1 ISO (see Option One)
     b. After downloading the Win8.1 ISO, follow this guide on how to make a bootable UEFI Win8.1 installer via DVD/USB flashdrive. When finished set the following settings in the BIOS (if applicable) to be able to boot from the media:
    Security Tab:
    Secure Boot = Disabled
    Boot Tab:
USB Boot = Enabled (for bootable flashdrives)
Boot Mode = UEFI (for UEFI installers, otherwise, set this to Legacy)
    Exit Tab:
OS Optimized Defaults = Other OS
If successful, you should be able on the Windows 8.1 installation screen. Click Repair your computer > Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Command Prompt or press Shift+F10 to open up a command prompt and follow this guide on how to repair the MRR/BCD (see Attempt Two and Three)
    Option 2:
Use the bootable Windows 8.1 ISO that you created on Option 1 use it to reinstall Windows (the installation should be able to detect the Windows 8.1 product key in the UEFI firmware that will let you activate Windows). Note that you will need to reinstall the drivers from the D:\Drivers folder or from the G510 drivers page.
    Option 3:
Shut off the machine, press the OneKey Recovery button and restore the system to original state (note that this will wipe out the OS partition)
if you have files to backup, use the installer that you created in Option 1 and follow this guide.
    Regards

  • Lenovo G510 - High temps

Hi forum, i bought this laptop one and a half months ago and i notice that the temps are getting higher than normal.
When its idle it sometimes drop to 28C which is the lowest ive seen but usuallly is about 36C. When i open Skype, facebook game etc it can hit 83C with no reason. The cpu usage at that point is bearly 18%. My first thoughts are same, the fan is not kicking when i has to and makes the cpu run hot and then unable to cool it as  much as it should.
I hope someone help us because i started to get annoyed, i cannot stress the laptop atall. Even when i play a game in facebook i can hear the fans rpm increase.
    www.postimg.org/image/nsrxsavz1/
Is there any update that can fix this? cause its no dust or thermal paste issue and ofcourse no applications are running
    According to :
    http://www.notebookcheck.net/Lenovo-G510-Notebook-Review.117221.0.html
The G510 graphics core always clocked at full speed in the stress test (Prime95 and Furmark run for at least one hour). The processor only ran at maximum speed in AC mode (2.9 GHz). When performing the stress test in battery mode, the CPU clocked with 2.5 GHz. The CPU's temperature settled to approximately 69 °C in the stress test (AC mode).

    Check temps with hwinfo.
With tmonitor you can disable turbo boost which is a manufacturer hardware overclock and monit temps

  • Lenovo G510 Windows 8 Read Only Folders

    Hello everyone,
I just bought a new Lenovo G510, and I installed the Windows 8 that was on the partition.
The installation went fine, and everything is in order.
The only problem is that ALL my folders are Set to READ ONLY. Is this something normal for Windows 8 and how can I set it to a different state, since I know that in future that will be a problem?

    hi francis17583,
If the G510 system came preloaded with Windows 8, there are two ways on how you can restore the system to factory settings:
    Option 1:
    - Turn off the machine and press the OneKey Recovery Button
    - On the Novo Menu, select System Recovery and follow the screen prompts.
        - Link to picture
    Option 2:
     - Follow this guide on how to create a recovery drive
     - Boot from the recovery drive and follow this guide on how to reset the PC.
I recommend Option 1 in case you don't have a flashdrive (8GB or above) but ensure that you have a backup of your important files as the above procedure will wipe the OS drive.

  • Windows 8.1 installation problem on Lenovo G510

Hi. I bought a new Lenovo G510 laptop. I downloaded Windows 8.1 from Microsoft DreamSpark, and burned ISO image on a DVD disc. When I try to install it on my laptop, I receive an error (it might be wrong translated):
    Load Driver
A media driver your computer needs is missing. This could be a DVD, USB, or Hard disk driver. If you have a CD, DVD, or USB flash drive with the driver on it, please insert it now.
Note: If the installation media for Windows in the DVD drive or on a USB drive, you can safely remove it for this step.
I already tried changing the following options in BIOS but no effect:
Configuration tab -> SATA Controller Mode from AHCI to Compatible
Boot tab -> Boot Mode from UEFI to Legacy Support
Boot tab -> Boot Priority from UEFI First to Legacy First
Also, I tried to insert CD with drivers which was in the box, but - of course - no appropiate drivers were found.
What happened? How am I supposed to install a Windows 8.1? What should I try? Thanks in advance for giving any clues and answers
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    hi JachuPL,
    Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.
From this microsoft article, the error that you're getting maybe caused by one of the following:
     - The installation DVD is removed during the setup process.
     - A low-quality DVD was used to create the installation DVD.
     - The speed at which the installation DVD was burned was too fast.
     - The DVD drive cannot read the media.
     - The ISO file is corrupted.
    Things that you can try:
    1. Verify that the Windows 8.1 ISO is not corrupted by comparing the MD5 / SHA1 Hash of the download file to the one from DreamSpark. To get the hash, download and install the Microsoft File Checksum Integrity Verifier and foillow this guide.
    2. Instead of using a DVD, follow this guide on how to create a bootable Windows 8.1 USB installer and use it to install Windows 8.1. (use the USB 2.0 port on the unit).
Let me know how it goes.

Hi there. I have my Lenovo g510 i5 notebook for 10 months, and my battery is wrong. I haven't used it on battery too much, but when I used it, I empty all of it and then charged it when it's turned down. Couple of days ago, the battery was empty I put it to charge, the orange light appears that it's charging, and day after when I put the battery on the notebook won't start, but with the battery and adapter start normally and show that the battery is 100% (fully charged). If still the issue persist, perform battery gauge reset, go to power manager select advance mode and select battery tab and click on battery maintenance under this option click perform under battery gauge option. Please perform and reply with results.
