Lenovo G550 Graphics

I have black boardes about 3 " on each side of videos I play. It has Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family [Display adapter]  (2x) installed .  resolution is 1366  X 768 any setting lower is worse.

  • Lenovo G550 Graphics Very Bad, want to install external GPU

    Hi everyone!
I own a Lenovo G550 (model 20023). It currently has a Intel Pentium Dual Core T4500, Intel Graphics Media Accelerator(That's one hell of a bad GPU!!!!), 4Gb DDR3 Ram(had 2gb DDR3 Factory Installed), with 3 operating systems(Yes, three!).
I can see that the Gpu bottlenecks the whole Computer. My objective is to run Prince Of persia:Forgotten Sands at a proper resolution and at medium Graphics Mode without High Resolution Textures(or Minecraft at about 100 fps At full setting, in 16x16 texture pack).
I see that the only way to safely increase without turning my computer into a paperweight si by using a External Gpu. But, I dont know anything about them(like Where to get them readymade, Will it fit into the PCI ExpressCard port etc.). Please give some Information.

    hi atreyabain,
The Intel Graphics Media Accelerator on the G550 is soldered on the motherboard and can't be upgraded. There's also no PCI / PCI-E slot on the mobo where you can add a discrete card. AFAIK, there's no ready made external GPU. You need to do it yourself . See the following:
How to make an external laptop graphics adaptor
How to Upgrade Your Notebook Graphics Card Using DIY ViDOCK
Although it looks promissing, it may not be practical and you're better off buying a mid/high-end rig for your gaming needs.
    Best regards,

  • Lenovo g550 upgrade hard drive and ram

    I have a Lenovo G550 (20023), it has Intel T4300 CPU, 3 GB DDR3 RAM,Intel GMA 4500M graphics card and Windows 7, with 320 GB seagate HDD.
I would like to buy a new HDD.
    I found a 2TB Verbatim drive 15 mm height.
How much drive height does G550 support?
Also somewhere it says that 4 GB RAM is max supported, elsewhere it says 8 GB.
Are there any CPUs with integrated graphics (Intel HD 4000 etc....) available for this laptop?
    Thank you for answers.

Its for the Lenovo G550 with Nvidia 210M Graphics card which 500GB hard disc it might work with the 320GB version or a 105M Nvidia card but it will not work with the Intel X4500 version as the driver is not there how ever you can easly download the drivers from intel.

  • Lenovo G550 laptop - red, blue, yellow specks and lines on screen

    Hello,
I have a 2 year old Lenovo G550 laptop, system model 20023 ( Dual-Core CPU T4300 2,10Ghz, 3,00GB RAM) running 32-bit Win 7 Home Premium OS with graphic card Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family.
Month ago, I started getting 2 vertical lines on my screen, which change colors and tend to disappear when I tilt it. Recently, problem graduated to red, blue, yellow specks all over the screen. Tilting no longer works, but I noticed a definite relationship with the degree of pressure on the case. When I push hard enough on the left spot below the case (where hard disk is located), the problem resolves completely. I also tried plugging another monitor in and there seems to be no problem either. Please, help.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Graphic card issue sounded highly unlikely with the external monitor image appearing to be normal. I tried reseating the lcd cable and it fixed the problem.

  • Lenovo G550 Video card

Hi i just got my Lenovo G550 and i was wondering if there was a way to upgrade the graphics card on it. I know its got a dedicated card in it so i cant just swap it out but i was wondering if there was another type of motherboard that would be compatable that doesnt have a dedicated graphics card that way i could upgrade it

You must to search for FRU list and see if there any motherboard for your G550 that support discrete graphics.

  • Lenovo G550 problem during games and warranty

    Hello,
I have lenovo G550, it has G210m graphics card with 512Mb memory.I bought it on 5-jan-2010.
From last 2-3 months my laptop suddenly switches off when i play games(after 5-10 min).I thought this was due to dust and overheating so I get it checked on the lenovo service centre, but overheating or dust is not the issue.
1.Is there any chance that graphics card has some problem..if not what could be the issue??
2.I got one year warranty. Can i extend my warranty and how much i have to pay for 1 or 2 year warranty..??
Will the warranty covers all parts..??
personal information has been removed for your own security

first of all, 3000 serie laptops are not designed for games. you should've bought ideapad serie laptops instead of.
but it seems you have some issue with graphic adapter. can you download any application to check temperature?
you can extend your warranty, better to contact lenovo via mail. lenovo will respond your questions about warranty costs.
( make sure you apply before your current warranty expires )

  • PCIe Slot on Lenovo G550 2958 95Q

I've recently bought a Lenovo G550 2958 95Q, which ships with integrated graphics. However, I need a more powerful GPU for graphics applications. So I was wondering if there are some PCIe slots on this Laptop that I could utilize to upgrade my GPU.
    Are there ?
    Thanks in advance,
    Sunny

Note : Lenovo G550 2958 H2Q had dedicated Graphics, and they are pretty much similar, only for the GPU. So does that mean that the 95Q is nothing but the h2q, only that the GPU's been removed?

  • I am about to throw my Lenovo G550 into moving traffic

I have seriously at the end of my FREAKING ropes with my Lenovo G550 (2598) laptop.  I swear on my life I am about to go and purchase a new computer and best believe it will NEVER be a lenovo.  I am at the end of my ropes with this piece of crap laptop.  It seems to me that I have joined like 1500000 other people having the same issue and no one from lenovo seems to have a viable answer to the problem.  My computer literally will work occasionally and then it will just start to shut off at random times on me.  It has went to sleep on me 5 times already trying to post this message.  I just completely did a factory reset on the thing and erased all of my files and returned it to its "factory" state.  This did not fix the issue.  In fact, it has gotten 10x worse since i did the factory reset.  I have ran Malware bytes.  I restarted the computer in safe mode and ran combofix, malware bytes, adwcleaner, cccleaner, and **bleep** near all of the solid antivirus softwares.  I have manually scanned the registry for anything that should not be there and still have found nothing.  I am fed up to no end here.  I design websites and have a business online that I CANNOT BE DEALING WITH THIS BULL.  I have searched on here and literally have found nothing whatsoever that is gonna help me solve the issue.  I took the back of the computer off and airdusted the fan (filled with dust) and that did not help either.  I mean what more is there possibly to do? I will install a software and every time it usually says something along the lines of "a pending restart may be near.  Are you sure you want to continue with the installation?"  Someone with some knowledge for the love of God come and shed some light on this bull**bleep**.  I just bought this laptop like 2 years ago so if thats what happens to your laptops after 2 years best believe I will go with apple for the rest of my life because i dont see any of my friends with macbooks having any sorts of these problems.

Why aren't you having it repaired? If a factory reset and installing the latest official drivers doesn't help it's usually a hardware issue.
If it shuts down randomly could be the motherboard or CPU.
I wouldn't buy Apple, everything is glued or soldered together, and when you run out of warranty, you will go bankrupt trying to have it repaired.

  • Where is the software for the Lenovo G550???

I want to do a clean install and replace the pre-installed Vista with Windows 7.
I see that the Lenovo G550 download page has drivers for Windows 7, but where is the pre-installed software, like Veriface, camera software, and all other pre-installed Lenovo software? I looked at all OS options for the G550 on the download page, and NONE of them had the G550 laptop software, all they had for each OS option was only  the drivers.
I understand that I can make a recovery DVD, but as I understand  it, it will return the system to the factory fresh state (all pre-installed programs installed, but also with the factory installed VISTA  - yuck!). I didn't see any option to only re-install the  Lenovo software without also re-installing the OS.
When I look at the download pages for other Lenovo  laptops, I see that they have drivers AND SOFTWARE, but the G550 has no software except for the drivers. Since the G550 came with no software disks, and there doesn't seem to be any of the software online, how exactly does one do a clean installation of an operating system, and then re-install the Lenovo software, on a G550?
I was able to find downloads of programs like Veriface on the Lenovo site for different laptop models, but unfortunately those were much older software versions, and for a different Operating system.
Why can't Lenovo post all of the software online? If they aren't going to provide the software on DVD when they ship the PC, then they should at least have it online; so that people can do a reinstallation if necessary. DELL doesn't seem to have a problem putting all of the software for their PCs online, and they also provide it on disk with the PC.
Do I have to find the hidden backup partition and then copy the Lenovo software installation files to a DVD or different drive myself? Has anyone done this, and if so, can they please provide some assistance as to the best way to accomplish this task?
If there is a different/easier way to accomplish my end goal of a G550 with a Windows 7 clean install, and also with a re-installation of all pre-installed Lenovo software, I would be extremely grateful for any assistance. If there is also a way for me to select which factory software I wanted to install, that would be even better ( I don't need all of the crapware that came on the PC)
    Thanks in advance,
    Sven

Thanks, I'll give that a try when I finally get the Windows 7 upgrade disk.
It seems ridiculous that Lenovo doesn't support this product for Windows 7, especially when they mentioned the "FREE" upgrade (with ridiculous "shipping and handling charge") to Windows 7 on the web page where I ordered it. Being a reasonable person, I assumed that when they offered a "Free" upgrade to Windows 7 with the PC, they would also provide the basic software to allow the built-in hardware like webcams to keep on functioning as they did under Vista.
Had I known that they would refuse to offer any software on disks or download, I would have ordered a DELL or some other PC that has a reasonable level of customer service. I am not a typical user; I don't call in for customer support. All I need is the software and drivers, and I will install it myself.

  • Lenovo G550 Windows 7 Professional Upgrade

This Notice refers to 2958-A5U and 2958-A4U models of the Lenovo G550 notebook PC’s only.
The 2958-A5U and 2958-A4U G550 systems ship preloaded with Windows XP Professional, and include a Windows 7 Professional upgrade disk.
Issue: When upgrading from Windows XP Professional to Windows 7, some users have been unable to successfully complete the upgrade.  The most commonly reported failure point is when the customer is asked to insert a Certificate of Authenticity (COA) key. The Microsoft Upgrade process for Win XP to Win7 requires the upgrade to be executed from a ‘cold boot’. If the Windows 7 DVD is inserted while the system is running, the installation process will auto run. However, at the end of the installation process, the system will ask for a 25-key Certificate of Authenticity (COA). The Win7 upgrade process will not successfully finish the installation using this method. The installation DVD must be inserted while the machine is powered off and not running.
When upgrading from Windows XP Professional to Windows 7, Microsoft advises that this process be done via a custom ‘clean’ installation.  Per Microsoft.com; "A custom (clean) installation erases the contents of your PC's hard drive. Your files, settings, and programs will not be transferred to Windows 7".  The clean install will remove any pre-loaded software applications, including VeriFace, One Key Recovery, and other applications that were installed by Lenovo or the user.
Customers should review the following information prior to performing the Windows 7 Professional upgrade.
The Windows 7 installation procedure provides a clean installation of Windows 7 Professional edition. During this process, all contents of the C: drive including all applications, files, programs and user data will be archived in the Windows.old folder.  The data should be available for access, but the applications and programs will not run, and Windows 7 appropriate versions will need to be installed. Lenovo STRONGLY recommends that external backups or all user data are made prior to initiating the upgrade in order to prevent permanent data loss.
    Correct Windows 7 Upgrade Procedure:
    1) Power off system
    2) Insert Windows 7 disk in the DVD drive
    3) Power on system and press F12 to access the boot order menu
    4) Select the option to start from the DVD / Optical drive
    5) Follow the on screen directions as Windows 7 installs
    6) Remove the DVD at the end of the process and reboot to Windows 7
Windows 7 has native drivers that will fully support most of the hardware on Lenovo G550 systems.  In order to maximize the functionality of the Trackpad and the Power Management system, the appropriate Lenovo drivers must be installed. The most current Lenovo Windows 7 drivers and applications are available for download here. Please check this site periodically for updates.
Recovering to Windows XP by using One Key Recovery:
The One Key Recovery feature can restore the factory XP downgrade preload at any time, but will erase all other data.
Important: All user data should be saved prior to implementing the following procedure
          1) Power off the system
    2) Press the recovery button (small round button next to the power button)
    3) System will start and OKR (one key recovery) application will load
    4) Select System Recovery from the menu
    5) Select option to Restore to factory default
    6) Click “Start” button to recover your system partition
    Cheers and regards,

The recovery disk set is supposed to have an SLP key embedded, so that you do not need to activate it, as long as the disk set matches the OS version that is nominated on the COA attached to the laptop.
If it really does say "windows 7 ultimate", then there is something odd going on. Can you please double check that it says "ulitimate"?
