Lenovo G550 Motherboard replacement

Hello
The motherboard on my G550 malfunctioned and while I was looking for a new one on the internet I noticed that some versions of the same laptop come with a different graphics card. My laptop has a integrated Intel Mobile 45 Family Chipset, but some versions come with a NVIDIA GeForce G210M. So I was wondering if I can replace my old motherboard with the one that has NVIDIA GeForce G210M or do I have to get the same one as my old motherobard?
Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
My dear laptop died on me about a month ago. It wouldn't do anything when pressing the power button and the power led would not light when connected to power. Tried with or without the battery, no led, no power. I checked with another cable and I checked my cable on another laptop and it worked so the issue has nothing to do with the power cable.
I took the laptop to my universities repair shop for a diagnosis and they said the Motherboard is dead.
Any suggestion where I could find a brand new motherboard replacement in the UK?
    Thanks,
    sorband

  • Lenovo H530 Motherboard replacement

Recently purchased this lovely computer. however as I read through the manual it said something about the motherboard not to be removed by the customer which is a slight problem for me because I wanted to upgrade the PSU for my graphics card which is hard to do with the current because of the 14pins since most use 24 and switch to an AMD Processor. So my main point and question is if it is possible to safely remove the motherboard and the antenna attatched to the wireless card?

    Welcome to the forum!
You just need to make sure that the board is not from a widescreen T60. All "standard screen" boards will work just fine.
    I wouldn't trust a $10 one, though...
    Good luck.

  • Lenovo G550 CMOS Battery replacement

Hi, I have a Lenovo G550 which sometimes fails to start. If left for a few days it eventually starts up. When it does finally start there is a "check date and time" error on the boot menu. When I go into the bios settings I find that the date and time has returned to default. So I set the correct date and time, reboot and all is well until the next time.
After reading this forum I believe it is a CMOS Battery error.
Is it possible for me to replace this battery? If so where is it located on the mother board?
    Thanks in Advance

can you remove the bottom panel of the laptop?

  • Lenovo G550 does not charge properly.

    Well, hello everyone.
I have been experiencing a problem with my Lenovo G550 lately. It doesn't charge properly and at most cases, I have to charge it when it's turned off. When I start up my laptop and as soon as I get to the Windows login screen (or not even up to the loading screen), the power LED starts to blink. I log in to see the laptop not charging. I have tried everything you'd usually do such as, turning the laptop off and on after awhile, removing the battery and putting it in after a few minutes or maybe even an hour, check the charger, take the charger in and out of the laptop and even letting the laptop rest for awhile without the charger or battery in. Sometimes even after all that, it seems like it still doesn't charge. Sometimes it does charge when turned on, although, only charges for a few minutes and stops charging. Even when switched off, sometimes, it doesn't charge properly either.
If you know anything that would fix this, a suggestion or if you know why I'm having this problem, please reply to this.
    Ah, silly little computer.

I have a friends laptop hoping to fix a common issue (or as I thought) of a broken power adapter socket. Without the battery in place when you plug the ac adapter in you get no lights and when you press the power button nothing happens.
Upon disassembly and also with the use of the internet I found that Lenovo actually has a nice setup where the yellow socket is removable retained by a single screw, with a pigtail and plug for the main board. So I pin tested the plug using an ohm meter and it tested good. Then I reattached the plug to the motherboard and tested it using the ac adapter and got 20V between both blue and black terminals. Then flipped the board over and I got the same results on the pins on the back of the board so power is getting to the solder points. But that is where the trail went cold.
Anyone have any ideas? I won't recommend her to buy a new motherboard at this point of even go to the expense of having it checked out which would exceed the value of this unit.
I am thinking there is a voltage regulator somewhere in between the battery and the mainboard power that might be the cause but that is above my electronic prowess.
One thing I can say is if this is not a simple fix I will guide her to look to another brand for a replacement. I have it stripped down to the mainboard and tempted to reassemble it to see if it really does charge the battery but just doesn't let you know via the charge lamp. I do know it won't run without the battery pack which has a little power left but saving it for now.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks,
    Steve

  • Lenovo G550, power supply

Hi, i have lenovo G550, when i start laptop, it works good, after 15-20 mins, power supply starts rotating for about one minute, after that , a small pause about 3-5 mins, and starts again, so from this time power supply begin rotating for every 3-4 mins .
I have a program that controls a processor's and hdd's emperature , hdd's temperature moves from 30 - 41  C , never higher, CPU's temperature when arrive 43-44 C , power supply starts working  and when temperature of CPU arrive 33 C , power supply stop working (blowing) , so laptop never stop working.
My question is : Is this normal work of laptop, or my laptop isn't OK ???
Sorry for my bad english .

To get to the power jack, you are removing most every screw on the case. Remove the panel above keyboard that houses power button, then there are more screws beneath it. Then you can get to hinges, unscrew them, find another screw at each hinge after hinge is out of the way. Also unfasten the keyboard, but don't rip it out, to find a couple more screws underneath the keyboard. And finally you can take the two halves of the case apart well enough and get in to disconnect the power jack. The DVD drive will slide out, no screws attaching it. The wiring for the power jack goes to a location by the memory where it attaches to the motherboard. I disconnected the cable by the memory and pulled it through easily.
Should take a week for the part to arrive to me. Crossing fingers that the whole trouble is this and nothing else. Found other thread here that talks about securing the jack better: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-3000-and-Value-line/G550-power-connector-is-this-a-weak-point/td-...
Clearly there is a fault in the design of this laptop model, I think, when many people are having the same fatal issue.
Also, now that I think of it: if you wanted to test if this was the problem for you laptop without the trouble of disassembling everything, you could easily disconnect the power jack by removing the memory cover and unplugging it there; then plug in a replacement power jack (which you'd need to order) and test. If all works, you could then go through the bother of taking everything apart (or finding someone to do it).

  • I am about to throw my Lenovo G550 into moving traffic

I have seriously at the end of my FREAKING ropes with my Lenovo G550 (2598) laptop.  I swear on my life I am about to go and purchase a new computer and best believe it will NEVER be a lenovo.  I am at the end of my ropes with this piece of crap laptop.  It seems to me that I have joined like 1500000 other people having the same issue and no one from lenovo seems to have a viable answer to the problem.  My computer literally will work occasionally and then it will just start to shut off at random times on me.  It has went to sleep on me 5 times already trying to post this message.  I just completely did a factory reset on the thing and erased all of my files and returned it to its "factory" state.  This did not fix the issue.  In fact, it has gotten 10x worse since i did the factory reset.  I have ran Malware bytes.  I restarted the computer in safe mode and ran combofix, malware bytes, adwcleaner, cccleaner, and **bleep** near all of the solid antivirus softwares.  I have manually scanned the registry for anything that should not be there and still have found nothing.  I am fed up to no end here.  I design websites and have a business online that I CANNOT BE DEALING WITH THIS BULL.  I have searched on here and literally have found nothing whatsoever that is gonna help me solve the issue.  I took the back of the computer off and airdusted the fan (filled with dust) and that did not help either.  I mean what more is there possibly to do? I will install a software and every time it usually says something along the lines of "a pending restart may be near.  Are you sure you want to continue with the installation?"  Someone with some knowledge for the love of God come and shed some light on this bull**bleep**.  I just bought this laptop like 2 years ago so if thats what happens to your laptops after 2 years best believe I will go with apple for the rest of my life because i dont see any of my friends with macbooks having any sorts of these problems.

Why aren't you having it repaired? If a factory reset and installing the latest official drivers doesn't help it's usually a hardware issue.
If it shuts down randomly could be the motherboard or CPU.
I wouldn't buy Apple, everything is glued or soldered together, and when you run out of warranty, you will go bankrupt trying to have it repaired.

  • Where is the software for the Lenovo G550???

I want to do a clean install and replace the pre-installed Vista with Windows 7.
I see that the Lenovo G550 download page has drivers for Windows 7, but where is the pre-installed software, like Veriface, camera software, and all other pre-installed Lenovo software? I looked at all OS options for the G550 on the download page, and NONE of them had the G550 laptop software, all they had for each OS option was only  the drivers.
I understand that I can make a recovery DVD, but as I understand  it, it will return the system to the factory fresh state (all pre-installed programs installed, but also with the factory installed VISTA  - yuck!). I didn't see any option to only re-install the  Lenovo software without also re-installing the OS.
When I look at the download pages for other Lenovo  laptops, I see that they have drivers AND SOFTWARE, but the G550 has no software except for the drivers. Since the G550 came with no software disks, and there doesn't seem to be any of the software online, how exactly does one do a clean installation of an operating system, and then re-install the Lenovo software, on a G550?
I was able to find downloads of programs like Veriface on the Lenovo site for different laptop models, but unfortunately those were much older software versions, and for a different Operating system.
Why can't Lenovo post all of the software online? If they aren't going to provide the software on DVD when they ship the PC, then they should at least have it online; so that people can do a reinstallation if necessary. DELL doesn't seem to have a problem putting all of the software for their PCs online, and they also provide it on disk with the PC.
Do I have to find the hidden backup partition and then copy the Lenovo software installation files to a DVD or different drive myself? Has anyone done this, and if so, can they please provide some assistance as to the best way to accomplish this task?
If there is a different/easier way to accomplish my end goal of a G550 with a Windows 7 clean install, and also with a re-installation of all pre-installed Lenovo software, I would be extremely grateful for any assistance. If there is also a way for me to select which factory software I wanted to install, that would be even better ( I don't need all of the crapware that came on the PC)
    Thanks in advance,
    Sven

Thanks, I'll give that a try when I finally get the Windows 7 upgrade disk.
It seems ridiculous that Lenovo doesn't support this product for Windows 7, especially when they mentioned the "FREE" upgrade (with ridiculous "shipping and handling charge") to Windows 7 on the web page where I ordered it. Being a reasonable person, I assumed that when they offered a "Free" upgrade to Windows 7 with the PC, they would also provide the basic software to allow the built-in hardware like webcams to keep on functioning as they did under Vista.
Had I known that they would refuse to offer any software on disks or download, I would have ordered a DELL or some other PC that has a reasonable level of customer service. I am not a typical user; I don't call in for customer support. All I need is the software and drivers, and I will install it myself.

  • Lenovo G550 Graphics Very Bad, want to install external GPU

    Hi everyone!
I own a Lenovo G550 (model 20023). It currently has a Intel Pentium Dual Core T4500, Intel Graphics Media Accelerator(That's one hell of a bad GPU!!!!), 4Gb DDR3 Ram(had 2gb DDR3 Factory Installed), with 3 operating systems(Yes, three!).
I can see that the Gpu bottlenecks the whole Computer. My objective is to run Prince Of persia:Forgotten Sands at a proper resolution and at medium Graphics Mode without High Resolution Textures(or Minecraft at about 100 fps At full setting, in 16x16 texture pack).
I see that the only way to safely increase without turning my computer into a paperweight si by using a External Gpu. But, I dont know anything about them(like Where to get them readymade, Will it fit into the PCI ExpressCard port etc.). Please give some Information.

    hi atreyabain,
The Intel Graphics Media Accelerator on the G550 is soldered on the motherboard and can't be upgraded. There's also no PCI / PCI-E slot on the mobo where you can add a discrete card. AFAIK, there's no ready made external GPU. You need to do it yourself . See the following:
How to make an external laptop graphics adaptor
How to Upgrade Your Notebook Graphics Card Using DIY ViDOCK
Although it looks promissing, it may not be practical and you're better off buying a mid/high-end rig for your gaming needs.
    Best regards,
    neokenchi

  • Lenovo G550 does not charge battery!!!! please help!!!!! :c

So i havent used my Lenovo for about a year and a half because i had lost the originial charger. ive recently bought a new cheap charger from amazon and thought it was the charger that was the problem when i looked it up online and found out it may be a bug from Windows 7. Now, this charger does turn on my laptop, but it does not charge it. It simply says "plugged in, not charging" and when i was reading an article on how to fix this , i was trying for hours to uninstall a program under device management called Microsoft ACPI- Compliant Conntrol Method Battery, because it was said that uninstalling this would help the system charge again. but after countless hours, i found that the program reinstalls itself and i am left with a laptop that just wont charge. my laptop says 0% (plugged in, not charging) and i really need this to work for the upcoming school year. i dont know what else to do! whenever i disconnect the wire the system completely shuts down and if i dont fix this problem ill just have to get rid of my Lenovo G550, which i absolutely LOVE! please, anyone help me! do i need to install a new version of windows? do i need to uninstall something? or is my laptop absolutely done for?
    please, please, please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    hi Chernandez51,
    Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.
From your observation, it seems like the battery was fully discharged after not being for a long time (batteries degrade overtime due to age, heat, and usage).
What you can try is to charge the battery for an hour or two while the computer is off then observe the status light indicators.
     - Link to picture
If the battery still doesn't take a charge then the battery might have gone faulty and needs a replacement.
For best compatibility, I recommend you use a Lenovo approved AC adapter and charger. You can buy one from the lenovo spare parts website (www.lenovospareparts.com) or you can buy online (eg. Amazon, Ebay, etc.) but ensure that there's a Lenovo FRU part number on the item..

  • Lenovo G550 2985 RAM UPGRADE !!!

    Heya,
I was jus thinking of upgrading my ram but I wanted to know the maximum capacity of my ram as one slot is still empty. So I googled and found this link
    http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-3000-and-Essential/G550-Maximum-RAM-capacity/td-p/559341
well according to the thread I can upgrade to only 4gb maximum. But then I did a crucial scan
    http://www.crucial.com/systemscanner/viewscanbyid.aspx?id=4557E54131D926C3
It says I can upgrade till 8gb.
So I'm just really confused if I should go with 4gb or 8gb !! Please help me out as I find this 1gb RAM really out dated . I want to buy a lenovo Z series but cant coz of cash constraints.  Please help me out with the RAM thing.
    Thank you.

    hi jrc50,
Yes, the 4GB DDR3 1333Mhz should work in replacement to the DDR3 800/1066MHz but do take note though that if you're running on a dual core (i.e. T4300 @ 800Mhz FSB), the speed of the ram will downclock from 1333Mhz to 800Mhz.
In addition, see Crucial's Memory Upgrade for the Lenovo G550.

  • Lenovo G550 boot up

    Hello mates,
I am using the Lenovo G550. It is brand new. i uninstalled the Vista and setup XP SP3 on it. Everything works fine but takes a HELL lot of time to boot up. Also when I uninstalled Vista and installed XP, I wanted to change the drives and paritions but somehow it does not let me format C: drive, so I had to install XP on another drive. Please help. I am a new member in this forum so it will take time until I understand how things work here so please forgive my mistakes. Thanks for paying attention to my problem.
    Hoping for a quick reply

    When you state:
"so I had to install XP on another drive"
do you mean another partition on the existing drive,
or replaced the drive with another physical drive?
There is a hidden service partition on the drive
which xp setup will not delete. You should find software
to "zero" the drive (totally erase by writing zeros)
and then you can create partitions when you run the XP install.
Of course, if you zero the drive your recovery partition will
also be gone, but it is probably unuseable now anyhow.
Once you get a clean XP install, with no partitions other than
what YOU create, boot time should improve.
