  • My lenovo G505s shuts down suddenly and key board stops working at times

    Hi,
I have bought this laptop 10 days ago, I am facing two problems 1st is, it shuts down(suddenly off not proper shut down) while working without showing any error message, and the problem no 2 is its key board stops working at times, system is working fine but all the buttons of key board are not responding. it will work when I restart the system.
please help what should I do, could it be replaced?

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !
Sorry to hear of your problems.  I would suggest that you try a reset of the BIOS just to rule out any hardware conflicts the system may have.  Try this........
    1. Unplug the charger / adapter.
    2. Remove the battery.
    3. Press and hold the Power Button for 15 seconds.
    4. Re-install the battery, plug in the charger / adapter if needed and power up the system to see if the problem was resolved.
If the problems weren't resolved by doing the reset then I suggest you contact Lenovo Support for warranty service.  Both the problems you mentioned could be related to faulty hardware and the service center would be best equipped to check out your new laptop.  You can find the phone number for Lenovo Support in your country or area by using the link below....

  • Lenovo U410 shuts down randomly

    Hello,
Recently i've purchased a U410 Lenovo laptop. Work really great, no wireless issues, as a matter it has higher speeds than other laptops. Nice look and fast.
Unfortunately i've discovered something wierd also on my first day with it. Randomly shuts down without any message or error., just turns off. I though it's a faulty driver, checked the event longs as saw some errors, i've corrected those and no shut down for a while. i thought everything is okay, so  bought the windows 8 pro upgrade, put it clean and with all the drivers from the site. worked nice for a while. then again the random shutdowns are back. there are a few warnings in the event long, but nothing serious.
I would like to mention that i changed the stock HDD to an intel SSD, and the stock RAM to 8 GB Corsair Vengeance high quality rams. So these could not be the problem since it had problems before that too.
I'm monitorizing the processor temperature as well. it's nothing unusual, its around 40-50 C when i do only browsing or something light. when something else is running it gets around 60C, but not more. the GPU temperature is also low, around 50 every time. So these 2 cannot be as well. I don't know about the battery.
The wierd things is that sometimes it works for days or even a week without any shut down. Example i use it from 6PM until the morning, then i go to work and give a sleep. then again from 6PM until next morning, etc. for over 1 week and no problem. then suddenly after a restart or after i get it out from AC power, or just suddenly it's starting again the random shut down. but when started, i get 1,2 within an hour or even more. then suddenly after a day or so again stop and works for more time. then all over again.
I use a few USB devices, but it behaves the same even if i unplug them. So that could not be.
I even updated the BIOS to the latest which came out on the 3rd, but did not help. I uninstalled the power management, because i thought that could do something with it, but no, still the same. I still think it's a faulty driver or something like that.
Does anyone know what else can i do? what could be? i don't want to take the laptop back because i have a lot of stuff on it, and i'm using it day by day.
    Thank for any help!
    Regards,
    B

    hi Bayernfan,
Here are the things that I would do if I'm in your case:
    1. Check the stability of the hardware by doing a stress test on both the CPU and GPU - you can use Heavy Load and do a 15min stress test and monitor the CPU and GPU temp. by using Real Temp.
    2. If the computer is stable & doesn't shut down after doing the stress test, I would run Windows Update to get the latest patches and bug fixes and observe the computer..
    3. If the issue happens again, I would do a clean boot to check if there's a background app that's causing the issue and perform a malware scan using Malwarebytes and TDSSKiller to make sure there's no malware or rootkit on the PC.
Let me know if you get any errors:
    Cheers

  • Lenovo U430P shuts down after a while

    Hi folks,
i got here a Lenovo U430P which falls in a kind of sleep mode where the power button is constantly illuminated.
Doesn't matter which button i press he's not restarting or responding in any way.
It's not the sleep mode i guess because that one is working and the power button blinks in that mode.
    Thanks
    Marc

    Hi Peted,
    Thanks for the reply,
As the system auto shutdowns in both battery and adapter, this might be issue with the motherboard, please visit the nearest service center for the further details.

  • T 61 will Not shut down

A two week old Type 6459 T61 with Vista Business will not shut down. It will sleep and hibernate but will not shutdown or restart (and I am telling it specifically to shutdown/restart). After a bit all disk activity stops and it just sits there telling me it is "shutting down" when it is not doing anything. For as long as I let it sit that is what it is telling me. I must use a hard shutdown, such as the power button (so programmed) or unplugging and yanking the battery if i actually want it to shut.
Any clues?  If I shutdown before I log in then shutdown will work. But if i log out and then shut down this will not work.  If i restart uing safe mode (after forcing the shut down) then the machine will shut down. Have tried all sorts of variations of shutdown.exe to no avail. Have run with and witout Aero. I am running only Lenovo/MS supplied or branded software in services and processess and disabled all else. I have disabled all startup apps via msconfig except antivirus (presently the Norton that came with the machine) and winamp agent (to maintain file associations) and Lenovo's on screen display. No help.
There are about 50 (I am not exagerating) services and processes runnning when I try to shut down that are not running in safe mode when the machine shuts down properly. I am hoping someone has a suggestion other than to disable each of the service/processes in turn and see if machine will shutdown or restart.
And I do not want to reinstall Vista. Too many commercial apps (MS office, Adobe 9 Professional etc.) that I would have to reinstall.
Have tried with and without Sidebar; no change. Have tried with and without NVidia helper apps; no change. Have not yet used Roxio (supplied by Lenovo) .
So, I hope someone "out there" can think of which processes are the "bad" ones. There seem to be many threads about Lenovo's shutting down when they should not; I have not seen other posts where people are having trouble shutting down when they want to shut down. I would like to think the problem is not with Windows Vista or with the Lenovo supplied software (then it should happen with everyone, right?) but what I would like to think may not count . . .
    TIA
    Bill

    Hello,
Bill please activate your windows services, except may be indexing, they eat not much memory and cpu power.
Vista will need one or two weeks, after you have your programs installed to get fully performable.
I would recommend to uninstall Norton and may me Winamp, if necessary.
Antivir or AVG are much smaller and faster, but also safe.
    Regards
    Andreas

  • Laptop Lenovo G550 with win7 shuts down(crash) randomly

    Laptop shuts down
My daughter has a new Lenovo G550 laptop. The machine shuts off randomly after boot. I installed on it windows 7 and 5 month everything works fine. I updated all the drivers and also i updated the bios. Laptop keeps shuting down...My daughter says when she plays games or when are too many windows open in internet explorer and torrent open the computer shuts down. She finds out  that , when the proccesor is very much in usage( 90-100% ), laptop shuts off. The temperature seems not so high, i don't see any dirt in fan...Also in safe mode it seems that things go normaly. I get a kernel-power error : "The system has rebooted without cleanly down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding , crashed or lost power unexpectedly". Also i've installed again OS(windows 7) but the problem keep going on. Should i install another OS, like windows XP ? Or should i install again windows 7 cleanly ( with format the hard disk) and see what it happens? If it is OK i start to update, one by one, drivers and after this shall i try to install some applications(one by one to see if any of it can cause problems) ? Any opinion or help please ! Thank you !
    Solved!

I have the same problem except my lenovo is 3 weeks old!  I think it is a software error but I have no idea which software is causing the problem.  It is always a booting error that happens when my desk top is already open.  I have called the support line three times and I am honestly thinking about getting a mac if this keeps happening.  Why can't I use normal software like i-tunes, spotify, microsoft, adobe, and my new external hard-drive without having this problem?  It can't be a hardware problem on such a new computer, right?

  • Lenovo Miix 2 10: Sleep and shut down causes restart

I fairly recently ran into a problem with the Miix 2 10. It works perfectly fine otherwise, apart from two issues:
    1. I can't put the computer to sleep. Hitting the power button, or selecting sleep from the power menu, or waiting long enough for sleep to engage via power options causes the screen to turn black, the computer won't wake by pressing the power button, and after a bit (under a minute?) the Lenovo boot up screen shows and the computer boots up "normally". This happens no matter how sleep mode is engaged. Basically the same behavior also happens when I select Shut down from the power menu, the computer shuts down normally and then after a little bit (under a minute again) the computer boots up again. The only way to shut down the computer so that it'll stay down is to hold the power button down so long the computer shuts down forcibly. Or wait for the battery to run out...
    2. Almost no Windows updates will install. All of them fail with the following message: Code 80073712 Windows Update ran into a problem. I've searched high and low for a solution to the Windows Update problem, tried everything MS had to offer (short of factory reset or reinstall) and nothing has worked.
Truth be told I'm mostly worried about the first problem, not so much the Windows Update one. The sleep issue essentially stops me from using my Miix 2 10 as a tablet at all, I have to treat it like an always on laptop, and I have to even run screensavers to prevent possible screen issues because it's always on ("turn off screen" seems to also shut down the computer). Our local Lenovo only supports corporate computers, servers and professional laptops, and as far as I can see I can't contact Lenovo US in any way other than phoning them, so I'm more than a bit stuck with this.
As far as I can tell this is related to either BIOS or the CPU driver package. I installed the latest updates some time ago and afterwards this behavior came in, making it almost impossible to really use the unit. Should have known better than to update any drivers when everything was working fine...
If anyone has any ideas that could help, I'm all ears. I've heard there are some BIOS settings related to power management that could cause this, but you can adjust absolutely nothing of any use whatsoever in the Miix 2's BIOS. It's completely useless when it comes to that. I'd really want to try and roll back the BIOS drivers, but that's not possible since they aren't available anywhere, so I think I'll just have to return the unit.
EDIT: Just in case it matters, if I look into the Device Manager I can see that many if not most of the stuff running on the Intel driver package (the Baytrail processor driver package includes a lot of stuff like the camera drivers) seems to be saying something about the power states that may or may not be relevant: Power states D0 (full power) and D3 (Sleep) are listed as supported, and the power states are mapped as follows:
    S0 -> D0
    S1 -> Unspecified
    S2 -> Unspecified
    S3 -> Unspecified
    S4 -> D3
    S5 -> D3
A couple of them, for example ACPI X86-based PC, say D3 to S1-3 as well.

    i think i find solution.
after instal baytrail driver, without restart i instal gpu driver direct from intel
    https://downloadcenter.intel.com/search?keyword=Intel%C2%AE+HD+Graphics+for+Intel%C2%AE+Atom%E2%84%A...
    work fine for now...

  • Lenovo Ideapad y550: shuts down when unplugged, wont start on battery. new battery did nothing.

Hello wonderful Lenovo user's and guru's! I have recieved a Lenovo Ideapad y550 from a pawn shop. I grabbed it because I knew this was a pretty good computer. I thought I could fix any problems it has and it would be just fine. =] So this laptop shuts down instantly if I unplug the power cord. Just dies, no time to do any saving or lights to blink. Just instant shutdown. Also when I try to power it on when its unplugged from the AC, it does nothing. Also shuts off in the middle of playing guild wars 2. No other games shut off on me. When I realized I had this problem, I ordered a new battery for my model of laptop. The new battery is doing the exact same thing as the other battery that was in it. It seems the computer has a fresh install of windows except with a .old folder in the C drive. So I am guessing someone did some sort of reformat or recover? the recovery was done through the Pawn Shop. It seems that it has windows 7 64 bit.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • Lenovo Yoga 2 11 shuts down unexpectedly

I'm a little frustrated with Lenovo products lately!  I recently had an issue with the battery not keeping charge/not reporting the right percentage/instant charge drops/etc. so I sent it out to have it repaired.  Recieved it back this morning and now I have another issue!  The laptop unexpectedly shuts down while in use whether connected to the adapter or running on it's own battery!  Let me remind you...I bought this thing 3 MONTHS AGO!  How is it that I'm dealing with all these issues on a brand spanking new laptop?????  Now they're recommending I send it back!  My old laptop lasted for 8 years without any issues and I spend a few months with Lenovo and all I get is crap!  Customer service now says they'll send an email to customer relations to contact me and by previous threads it seems like it's a hit or miss on whether you get a call from them!  I have no idea what to do now...I have no time to send this new laptop back and forth!

    I have the same problem.
I bought my Lenovo Yoga 2 11  20428 less than 2 months ago and this problem started about 10 days ago with increase frequency.  A couple of times, 3 or 4 now,  the screen also started "running"  horizontally and vertically, so the graphics would be "broken" into several black and white small rectangles with the screen image appearing on the back of the black and white rectangles. It is hard to describe, sorry.
I just took it to the store to be serviced, they checked the hardware and cleaned it, but say they could not replicate the problem, so they could not send it to Lenovo as per the manufacturer's policy. They say it could be software or I should update drivers. I did update everything that was not updtaed and nothing changed.
    Here are some notes:
    - The computer shuts off immediately, no warning, nothing, just immediate black screen.
    - At first it would restar a few seconds later on its own, but now I have to press to power button to get it back on.
    - it happens on battery and AC power
     - Happens when I am running something slightly heavier, such as streaming video, or when I have many internet windows open at once, which should be an issue
    - system got a little slower some times before I it shut down
    - the battery is fine, it is brand new and after computer restarts it continues running
    - does not seem to be overheating, at least I do nto feel the temperature to be hot
Appreciate if anyone can help solve this mistery!

  • Lenovo Ideapad N580 shuts down unexpectedly

I never really had this happened before, until now. The shut down took place about 30 minutes ago while I was watching a video from a streaming site. There wasn't any kind of messages, the power just completely shuts off like someone did a hard boot. I ran a full scan with updated anti-virus software and it didn't pick up anything. I'm certain the site I use is safe as I've been using it for a long time.
The laptop was really hot underneath when this happened and it currently still is somewhat. Also, one of my laptop hinges was damaged about a month ago, so I have to keep the lid open because the cover will keep popping up if I close the lid, can that contribute ot the problem too?
I've got a bad feeling about all this. The laptop is about 3 years old with expired warranty, so if something happens to it, me and one of my siblings will be in a tight spot to afford another laptop.
Anyone know what this issue was and how I can prevent it from happening again?

    Hi Slick20,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community!
As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with Auto shutdown in your Lenovo N580 laptop.
As you have mentioned that the laptop heats up underneath, as this might be issue with the fan or heatsink .
Try to clean the dust accumulated underneath. Try to perform a BIOS update and check for the issue.
Click here for the BIOS update for windows 8.
If still the issue persist then the laptop fan needs to be replaced Please visit the nearest service center for further details.

  • Lenovo 3000 N100 laptop shuts down after about 1 minute

Despite being plugged into AC power, my Lenovo 3000 N100 shuts down after about one minute. It boots properly but suddenly shuts down. I have not used this laptop much since purchasing it in 2006 and have seldom used it on battery power alone. Any suggestions before I buy a new battery? Maybe I am mistaken, but shouldn't the computer work on AC despite a depleted battery?

Hi Charleydog and welcome to the community,
Take the battery out  and unplug the ac.  Hold the power button down for about 15 seconds.  Do it twice.  Then plug only the ac in and see if it fires up.

  • Lenovo x220 tablet pc with ubuntu 12.04 Shuts down and starts up unexpectedly

    Hi
I bought a lenovo x220 tablet pc and installed ubuntu 12.04 with GNOME 3 a while ago.
It was working fine at first however recently:
    1. the computer shutsdown unexpectedly, the shutdown dialog appears (the one that gives you the option of restart, cancel, or shutdown); I try to cancel it however the laptop would just power down (without going through the proper shutdown routine). Once it powers down it would try to reboot on its own but halfway during the reboot it would power down again.
    2. At times when I do shutdown normally, I would just close the lid and the computer would start back up again, without my pressing the power button (just moving the monitor makes the computer startup)
In addition I dropped the computer on the battery side at one time and cracked the plastic casing a little. The above mentioned problems still exists when I use the laptop without the battery.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to go about finding out what's wrong and how to fix it.
Thanks in advance for the help.

    Hey mate,
sorry to here about that. Here may be a path to the clearing where a possible solution is waiting: Nowadays it is standard to let the pc (or more exactly the power manager of the OS) listen to the ACPI bus for messages like power button pressed and such things. If such a message surfaces and your power manager picks it up it is possible (if you have this configured as an action) that it shuts down you computer or restarts it. To eliminate this possibility you can try one of the following to things:
    1. stop your power manager from working
    2. get yourself superuser rights and use acpi_listen to listen to the acpi bus (if not working then install "acpid", shut down your power manager and start acpid as service)
    3. open your system log (e.g. /var/log/messages) and search for things connected to your power manager or acpi
Please tell me if it worked! If not you could also post the content of your system log for analysis.
    Using x230t (i5-3320M, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, 80GB mSata-SSD) and loving it!

  • Lenovo S510P restarts after shutting down

This problem is not the natural OS problem where an application resists the machine from shutting down and hence the machine restarts...
    This is differemt..
I had posted on this community earlier too, but no one seems interested to reply to my post..
Its high time to take some bold steps because its almost 10 months (my laptop is just 11 months old) that i am facing the same problem and no one from this community or even the customer care people are able to solve the problem.
If you are not able to solve the problem please atleast exchange the machine..
THE PROBLEM THAT I AM FACING IS DESCRIBED HEREWITH:
When I shutdown the laptop, the laptop starts automatically after 2-3 sec(it does not restart) after it gets switched off completely(the white led light on power button is off). This scenario is different from the normal restart where the led light is on all the time. Here, the led light goes down(turns off) which means that the laptop is turned off completely, but suddenly after 2-3 sec the laptop starts again..
I am facing this problem from the second month of purchase. I am using DOS system, with 64 bit Win7. I have formatted OS a couple of times.
I was asked to replace the motherboard of the laptop by one of your Customer Service Centre, and I did so, but the problem is not solved. Although i have started facina a new problem of heating. The laptop heats up quickly and the laptop has restarted due to generation of extensive heat couple of times.
The laptop is currently in the Lenovo Customer Care since last 5 days for the above mentioned reasons.
Serial Number of my laptop is **********
I am facing a problem since last 10 months and no one from Lenovo Community seems interested to solve my problem. Neither the customer care is able to solve the issue.
I feel sorry that I trusted Lenovo for their technology and their support..

I mentioned about the role of RAM in this problem, but even after removing the extra RAM card, the problem still persists.
Mod comment: Serial number removed for members protection.

    Hi
You could try unplugging any USB devices, especially the keyboard, to see whether it makes any difference. If you have an Apple Studio or Cinema display, you could also try disabling the display power button via the OS X displays system preference.
I seem to remember people have also reported issues in the past where by they've been able to start up and shut down G4s by switching on a walkie-talkie or similar device.

  • Lenovo G505s Randomly Shutting Down

Hello! I've owned my G505s since August 2014 and it has served faithfully as my school laptop. I do not have any money for a new laptop and I've looked at endless posts and articles, so I'm at my wit's end here.
It all started last night, when my hard drive just failed to boot. It told me there was no OS installed, despite Windows 8.1 being installed. I rebooted a couple times and the same message popped up and I checked the BIOS settings. They were all correct. I assumed that my HDD became corrupted or something occurred, so I found a Windows 8 ISO from Microsoft's website and started installing tonight, since I knew the BIOS stored the key and would auto-input.
That part was successful. The part that's killing me here, though, is the constant shutdowns now. It started ever since I had to reinstall. At first I just put Windows 10 Tech Preview on it to quickly get some work done since I had the install USB with me, but it shut down randomly there too. Now, during the install of the Windows 8.1 OS, it shuts down at random times and corrupts the installation, forcing me to start over and observe the same shutdown issue all over again.
I do not have money to ship it and I'm losing my mind here. I thought Lenovo was good, but I'm seeing others with the same exact problem, and I'm several months away from having enough money for even a cheapo laptop. Can anyone help?
Keep in mind that I can't even get past a Windows 8 install and booting a Live USB of Linux is a no-go because it won't even boot, even if the Legacy option is enabled in the BIOS (seriously? no linux support?)
My BIOS is updated (3.0). Thanks for any help

    hi Chripallo,
    Welcome to the Forums.
It could just be a coincidence but It's possible that there's a hardware part that's failing inside the machine (e.g., Memory, Overheating GPU) which causes the shutdown issues.
    Things that you can try:
    1. Re-seat the RAM and HDD and try reinstalling Windows.
    2. If you have two RAM sticks (e.g., 2x4GB), remove one stick and observe if you can now install Windows.
    3. (Optional) Check this article on how to create a bootable USB diagnostics to test the RAM/HDD.

    Note:
You will need to set the following options in the BIOS to boot from a  USB
    Security Tab:
    Secure Boot = Disabled
    Exit Tab:
OS Optimized Defaults = Other OS.
    Boot Tab:
    UEFI = Disabled
    Boot Mode = Legacy
If the problem remains and you're still not able to install Windows after doing the above steps then I recommend you contact lenovo for warranty service.
