Lenovo G580 BIOS updated with password set

I've recently updated BIOS on my laptop but I forgot to reset BIOS password before that. Now it doesn't accept my old BIOS password. How can I fix it?

  • Lenovo G580 BIOS update problem - Error 255

    Hi!
I read a lot of these problems, but there were no solutions, not even a feedback from Lenovo...
So I have the same problem.
    - I download this update: http://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles/62cn40ww_64.exe
    - I try to run it as Administrator and I got the error message: Error 255 - TDK library initialization failed
What could be the solution? I tried the advices from other forum posts, but I still have the problem. I have Win7 x64. My laptop is G580 (20150 model).
    Thanks for the help.

  • Lenovo G580 Blue Screen With Dropbox

    Dear Lenovo community,
I bought a new Lenovo G580 last week, but dropbox causes the system to crash (Blue Screen).
Windows gives the following error codes:
    ffff8a00b9ffa0a
    000000000000
    ffff80003092be1
    000000000000
I found a previous post on this forum with the problem (http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-3000-and-Essential/Lenovo-G580-BSOD-problems-with-certain-applica... but there was no solution back then.
Any Ideas on how to solve this?
    Kind Regards
    Koen

Not sure if this helps, but I did a memtest with this program:
    http://hcidesign.com/memtest/download.html
And it claims "Could not allocate 4095 MB".
This would imply mij memory chips are failing right? So this is a hardware problem?

[Athlon64] Failed Bios update with both Live Update and Dos version = badchecksum shutdown

Sometimes bios recovery is a long shot .
But the award bios v.6 is supposed to be able to do it if the bootblock is still intact.
Best way seems to be to strip it down to minimal configuration , disconnect all drives except floppy , one ram module , perhaps without video card also .

  • G580 BIOS update sets password?

    Help needed!
I have recently downloaded a BIOS update for the G580 - version 20150, and ever since that I am locked out of the BIOS setup menu. It asks for a password, however I haven't set up one, and such, I am unable to change any of the settings.
Changing the values there would be important, because the settings seem to be reset to a default state, for example, I am unable to start any 64bit virtual machines because hardware virtualization is disabled. That's a shame because I was running Qubes OS too, but I am also unable to boot off legacy (MBR partitioned) devices, which I do occasionally to test some new Linux distro when it comes out.
Apropos Linux: as soon as the system starts booting, the screen goes completely blank, and I have to keep pressing brightness-up to see if the system had started. Brightness controls also seem to behave strange under MS Windows too: on the lowest level instead of dimming (what it did before), the screen goes completely blank. The only good thing in this update is that bluetooth now seems to work more reliable under Linux.
Is there a way to remove the password lock from the BIOS and/or revert to the previous version to avoid the screen blanking issue? Would reverting the update also remove the password?
If the password can't be removed, is there a safe way to change the settings from a running OS?
    Any help would be appreciated.
Sorry if I seem to be whining, but this problem is driving me crazy.

    hi Sulthekk,
    Welcome to the Community.
This is unusual as I've never seen a BIOS update automatically creates a power-on password on Lenovo units. Have you already reported this issue by contacting the lenovo support?
    Regarding your queries:
    1. Removing a BIOS password can only be done by an authorized lenovo technician (unit must be sent for service) and AFAIk, you can't flash the BIOS if it has a password (the password must be cleared first before hand).
    2. If the BIOS supports backflash (some mobo's have this feature hidden), check this article:
BIOS Crisis recovery for some IdeaPad laptops
    3. If the Lenovo G580 came a Windows 8 preload with UEFI BIOS, you need to disable UEFI to boot from legacy OS (Windows 7 and below, Linux, etc.) and fix the blackscreen issue. This feature can only be set in the BIOS and can't be done inside an OS.
    Hope this helps

  • G580 bios/update problem - no updates for years

    Hi there.
    I have a G580 i5-3210M @2.50GHz with 8gb ram running on Windows 7 64-bit. The model # is 2189.
I have had enormous problems updating drivers on the pc for a while, and I can give specifics of errors/drivers if that helps. One big problem I've found is using diagnosis software CPUID CPU-Z, my motherboard comes up as "Manufacturer: LENOVO", "Model: INVALID" / "00000000INVALID". I'm not sure how this contributes to my errors, but it definitley worries me.
Well, during a late night search for an updated BIOS, I found and accidently installed 5ecn96ww (v.9.01) BIOS update, which is for WINDOWS 8 and not WINDOWS 7. The system wouldn't start, so I went into the BIOS and switched onto Legacy Mode, which has allowed me to use the laptop normally (to my knowledge).
Long story, short request: How can I get my laptop back to factory settings (including factory BIOS) and start over with a fresh windows 7. Does OneKey Recovery reset the BIOS as well?
    Thanks.

    hi ahmedgad,
    Welcome to the Forums.
    Can you try to:
    1. Boot into the BIOS by repeatedly tapping F2 on startup
    2. In the BIOS, navigate to the Boot Tab and set UEFI to Disabled or Legacy then press F10 to save and exit. When
the computer reboots, check if you still get the errors and/or if you're able to boot into Windows.
    3. If same problem, leave the changes that you made on Step 2 and attempt to re-install Windows via a Windows 8 recovery drive or OneKey Recovery button (note that this will wipe the computer to factory settings)
    Let me know your findings,
    neokenchi

  • Lenovo t410 BIOS update for win 8.1

    hi
I want to upgrade my BIOS, but there is no update available for bios in windows 8.1.. My Bios version is 1.18, I want to update because i read somewhere that if your fan make noise make sure you have updated BIOS :A.. I want  to know if I can install "BIOS update for win 8" in my lenovo t410 with windows 8.1..
    thanks everyone for helping..
sorry any mistake in english, I am from Kosova <3

    Hello.
The Windows BIOS upgrade isn't OS specific, it runs on all OS's between XP-Win8.1, even if it doesn't list 8.1 specifically.
You can either update it manually, using the update here:
BIOS Update Utility for ThinkPad T410, T410i
Or make a bootable CD/USB with the ISO file here:
BIOS Update Bootable CD for ThinkPad T410, T410i
Either way works like a charm on a Windows 8.1 machine, but be aware of the risks involved in updating your BIOS.
    Good luck!

  • X61: BIOS Update with/from USB Stick or 3rd party CD-ROM

I was trying to update the BIOS of my X61 (7673-CTO) but surprisingly read, that with Vista 64Bit I am only able to do this via a bootable CD which is fine for me (although to my very personal opinion a bit old-fashined). The bigger problem is, that this CD obviously does NOT boot properly from/with a third party external USB-CD-ROM, which I personally think is outrageous! So I am somehow forced to buy "an original Lenovo-Drive" to make a BIOS update?? Forum, please proove me I am wrong!

    Hello all,
I, too, found this oversight on the part of Lenovo to be quite distressing. It is possible to upgrade the X61 BIOS with a USB thumb drive. I have provided directions at http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=817897
The above tutorial is aimed towards Ubuntu Linux users. However, I believe that users of Vista should be able to follow along. Please let me know if you have any questions... the process is simple enough that it should be possible with any OS out there right now.

  • Lenovo G570 Bios Update

Hi everyone Does the new bios update will be released ? Thank you.

    Hello yigit,
I'll contact to Lenovo technical service for this issue. But before contacting i would like to let you know that I found official 40CN22WW(1.09) bios for G470/G570 from China support page and i flashed bios with that version. It flashed the BIOS but same problem happened when it comes to EC. When i clicked on OK for flashing EC it freezed and nothing move so around 10 mins later i had to reset laptop by unplugging the battery. But when i enter the setup i saw that all INVALID gone and the correct values are there. So i can see model, uid and serial number in BIOS now. But the EC is same old one which i typed in 1st post.
    When i saw this i wanted to flash BIOS with official 2.09 version. It flashed the BIOS and came to EC flashing. This time it become different. After flashing BIOS it asked me to flash EC, and i clicked on OK, after clicking OK around 6-7 seconds later this appeared;
    IHIS:EC write error in SMI!
and after this one it reset the laptop by itself, i checked in the BIOS and the serial, model changed to INVALID again but BIOS version is 2.09 and EC is 2.04. So I reflashed the BIOS with 1.09 and now in BIOS no more INVALID but EC is still 2.04. I don't know maybe this version has an EC protection or something like that. Or maybe my laptop BIOS or EC is corrupted. I wanted to flash my BIOS at 1st just because of those fan noise with almost 100% speed. Even the temperature is 45 the fan runs like F1 race car I'll take this with this BIOS now and when i go to Adana where I bought this laptop I'll ask for technical help there. Beside all those except FAN runs too fast, there is no problem on laptop everything works fine. But i noticed that boot time is faster with this 1.09 bios, i don't know maybe this is a coincidence.
Thank you for your interest and replies.

  • 650 G1: Silent BIOS Update With No Automatic Reboot?

We need to update the BIOS during our automated Windows 7 OS deployment. It is required that the BIOS install runs with no interaction and that it doesn't reboot automatically so that our deployment process can control all reboots.  I know the BIOS upgrade requires a reboot, but we will add the reboot as a task in our deployment scripts so we can control it.  Unexpected reboots will cause the deployment to fail. Here is a link to the update installation files:http://h20565.www2.hp.com/portal/site/hpsc/template.PAGE/public/psi/swdDetails/?sp4ts.oid=5405401&spf_p.tpst=swdMain&spf_p.prp_swdMain=wsrp-navigationalState%3Didx%253D%257CswItem%253Dob_130551_1%257CswEnvOID%253D4059%257CitemLocale%253D%257CswLang%253D%257Cmode%253D%257Caction%253DdriverDocument&javax.portlet.begCacheTok=com.vignette.cachetoken&javax.portlet.endCacheTok=com.vignette.cachetoken  Our older laptops used hpqflash -s -a, but it appears it has changed. What is the command line syntax to run this BIOS update unattended with no reboot?

Begining sometime in mid-2013, notebook platforms began using a new flash utility --  HPBIOSUPDREC.exe. I would have to do some investigating as to how the SilentInstall uses the "hpqrun.exe" command in the cva file , but the map.ini file included with SP65838  provides the following:        1993=hpbiosupdrec -s -r -fL77_0104.bin
           1994=hpbiosupdrec -s -r -fL77_0104.bin
           2101=hpbiosupdrec -s -r -fL78_0104.bin
2102=hpbiosupdrec -s -r -fL78_0104.bin where the 4 digit number on the left refers to the system ID number. Run HPBIOSUPDREC.exe /?    from a command line window to see all the command line flags.  thanks,RichardI work for HP but am not a company spokesperson. • [(un)-SOLVED] BIOS update with wine?

    Hi all,
I'd like to know if it is safe to update the BIOS via Wine. The problem is that my BIOS update does not run from DOS and I don't have any Vista partition on my HD (the BIOS update is only for Vista it seems). However, the program launch with Wine.
    Thanks
EDIT: Nevermind... Wine can't reach the BIOS.
Although, if anyone has an idea as to how to upgrade a BIOS with an utility made for Vista... Please tell me.

I reflashed the firmware in my DVD writer via WINE the other day, without really thinking. About halfway through the process I came to my senses and spent the rest of it biting my nails and holding my breath. But it worked. (Didn't solve the problem I was having with it, mind you, but the thing still works as well as it ever did.)
I'd never try a BIOS update, though. Too risky even under "real" Windows, unless it's absolutely necessary.

  • P67A-GD63(B3) Bios update with older Intel i7

    Hello all,
I have always been an happy customer with my MSI P67 board. But at some point the new series of BIOS was released, which supported IvyBridge processors. I used to keep my BIOS updated, now I understand that unless I have an IvyBridge, it's not recommended.
Does that mean that I am losing the chance to update my BIOS forever - and the other perhiperals BIOS with it, say the RAID controller? Or maybe things have changed since the first release?
    I have an Intel i7 2600K.
    Thanks everybody!

I, have P67A-GD55 motherboard and i7 2600K (sandy bridge) and all work fine with the last 4.3 bios.
However, OC is not optimal with this 4.3 bios.
If you plan to buy an Ivy Bridge processor, you'll have to update to 4.x bios before changing processor because Sandy bridge processor doesn't work with 1.X bios.
After updatind to 4.X bios with your sandy bridge, you will can to change it to Ivy bridge.

Hi I have bought Hp envy-m6 1201tx, it is very smooth in working & all,
but the problem comes with switchable graphics.
i've studied every possible option for switchable graphics to work so i can use my AMD (Radeon HD 7670M),
but i can't because my pc does not support Opengl applications to run on High-perforance (AMD gpu) & and thus im forced to used low quality GPU(Intel HD Graphics 4000) which i don't want  . I want to use my AMD GPU and it it only possible if there is a (Bios Upgrade) from HP with the option of Switchable Graphics(Fixed Mode & Dynamic Mode). I've spent around $927 for this pc and also upgraded the RAM as well to 16GB & it will be all in vain if i can't use my AMD GPU. I just want bios upgrade for my PC like HP did the same bios upgrade for these PC's http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c02948560&lc=en&cc=uk&dlc=en . The only BIOS update available for the HP ENVY m6-1201tx Notebook PC is "HP Notebook System BIOS Update (Intel Processors)" below. As to whether or not it includes Switchable Graphics in it I cannot say as there is nothing the description saying it does.

    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-115872-1&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en...
Not every computer or Notebook will have the option in the BIOS as not every computer or Notebook are the same hardware requirements may not be available for a BIOS option.
