Lenovo G770 - BIOS InsydeH20

Hello All;
Before purchasing the system that I have, I did a lot of research, and found out that the motherboard that comes with this system will go up to 16Gb of RAM.
Once I received the system, I inserted both 8GB RAM sticks and booted the computer.
Windows 7 recognized all the memory, and posted it as having 16Gb of RAM.
Adobe Applications, such as Photoshop and After Effects, as well as Sony Vegas, all utilized all 16Gb of Ram.
However, the system would crash with RAM related memory dumps.
I rebooted the system and went into the BIOS (Of which is InsydeH20), and I saw that the BIOS
was reading my Memory as 6Gb, instead of the 16Gb that I have installed.
Therefore, I performed the following test.
I removed both sticks of 8Gb, and put in the original 6Gb that came with the system.
1x4gb
1x2Gb
booted into the BIOS, and it showed the 6Gb of RAM accurately.
Then, I removed both of them Stick, and then inserted a single 8Gb stick, and left the other slot empty
Booted into the BIOS, and Wa-LA, it read it as 8Gb of memory.
I added in the 2Gb stick into the other available slot, making it 10Gb total and booted into the BIOS, and it read it as 1Gb of installed RAM.
So.
In conclusion.
This system will handle 16gb of RAM.
However, without the BIOS recognizing all the available Memory, I cannot run all 16Gb of ram as it will cause memory dumps and other related issues, as I have been told on several different Memory related forums, as well as talking with the people from Crucial memory.
So, I currently and successfully run the
1x8Gb
1xEMPTY (Meaning the other slot is empty)
My question is the following.
How can I get into the BIOS and set it to recognize all the available memory?
As the BIOS is only set to run 8Gb, of which is half of what the Motherboard will handle.
Why Lenovo did this, is beyond me, and it makes me mad, that I cannot administer my system like I should be able to, since I OWN this system.
Any Lenovo Admin's want to answer this question?
Thank you
Wayne

So i take it, no one wants to put in their 2 cents on this thread?

  • Lenovo G770 Fan not spinning up after resume from sleep or hibernate

    Hi guys,
My lenovo G770 is facing an issue where when ever I resume the system from either sleep mode or hibernate, the fan does not spin up, as a result I have to either restart the system or open the system, pull the wire of the fan and put it back in the power socket.

    Hey Abdul,
Welcome back.   If the fan runs normally on first boot until you suspend / resume, then I might imagine this is power management quirk, or something confused in the embedded controller.
    1) Try going into BIOS and reload defaults - this might refresh values there.
    2) Try uninstall / reinstall power management driver and the energy cut software (Idea power manager).
Did you recently update BIOS or drivers?
I would also try some temp monitoring software just to see how CPU temps run after you come back from sleep to see if the fan should be running.

  • Lenovo G770 Fans not working

Contrary to everyone else's problems here my fans just not seem to be working anymore or something. I have switchable graphics with an integrated Intel and an AMD 1gb dedicated graphics card. When I switch to "high Performance" my lap top gets so hot, around 91 degrees Celsius. But when I switch to Power saving it stays a bit cooler. The trick is that I don't even hear my fans working most of the time. While playing SC2, a few times I've heard the fan go off(pretty noisy) and it cooled my computer off really fast. But most of the times it just builds up the temperature and becomes choppy as hell. I don;t remember it being this bad at first, but it seems that it has some kind of an issue now.
Pleae help, I'll try to download the latest drivers now, but I think I've already done that.

Lenovo G770 has ThinkVantage System Update? I thought that is suppose to be for ThinkPad system only?
Go to the link below and Select Win 7.

  • Windows 7 reinstall problem on Lenovo G770

Re Installing Windows 7 ultimate on my Lenovo G770, have deleted all partitions apart from LENOVO One Recovery Partition. The install works fine, installs , reboots a few times, loads files onto the designated partition ... but just as it boots for the last time , it goes into cyclic reboot, but never loads the windows ( no bluescreens, just goes past F2 - F12 screen, and restarts) Am I missing something, in BIOS etc ... ? , have installed Windows XP on machine, it works fine ....

     Hi crumdub12,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
The only thing I can think of in a BIOS setting is the SATA mode, Check it inside BIOS under Configuration,
AHCI or Compatible, check between the two.
If not, Why did you reinstall the OS, Did the previous one had problems? Because it might be the HDD afterall that caused the first issue, I would suggest to have the HDD checked as well.

VG

  • Lenovo G770 switchable graphics

    Hi there,
does anybody have a chance to install and configure switchable graphics(Intel, AMD) on Lenovo G770 laptop with Windows 8?

pretty much every windows 8 lenovo laptop driver (beta still) is listed here:
    http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=HT072084
but no indication of any "g" series.
from a quick glance at the listed models, my guess is that lenovo is trying to put test versions out for the common business-deployed models. kind of makes sense since IT staff need to get testing done for their shop prior to making budget recommendations and decisions. it's pretty nice that lenovo is making them more widely available so that early adopters can "play", too.
    hope the link helps.

  • Lenovo G770 keyboard

Hello everyone, I have a question.
I have a Lenovo G770 and somehow I've pulled out the letter from keyboard. -_-
Nothing's broken, it's just that I'm a little bit confused with that plastic hinge and how to put it on keyboard. It should go first on keyboard and then I should press the key down onto it, right? If so, how?
    edit: nevermind, I re-attached it.

incase someone may need, there are lots of videos on youtube.

  • Lenovo G770 CPU & Grafikkarten tausch - CPU & Graphics card replacement

    Deutsch:
    Englisch: (Bad )
Hello, after I upgraded my Lenovo G770 to the hard disk and memory, it interests me if it would be possible to upgrade the CPU (i5-date)? 1 If it were only possible a faster i5 or even an i7? Furthermore, you can replace the VGA card? What a would be as useful as a gamer? Have a buget of about 400 euros for both, when it comes up too 500 Would love if you had a few tips that things would get out there good performance. • How do i disable HPET (High Precision Event Timer) on Lenovo G770?

    Hello,
How do i disable the HPET settings from the laptop (G770)? I noticed tearing on my videos and occassionaly microstuttering. The same was present on my self-built desktop. I disabled HPET on the bios of my Asus motherboard and there were no longer tearing and the microstuttering dissappeared.
The bios on the G770 is so basic that its basically useless. How do I disable the HPET?

  • Lenovo G570 bios password

I set a Supervisor Password and an User Password for a Lenovo G570 Laptop, running an INSYDEH20 BIOS. Later I decided to exclude the passwords, so I entered in Setup press F2 and I selected Clear Password (something like this). Now when I turn on my laptop the message "Enter Current Password" appears. I put my old password... "invalid password", just press Enter... "invalid password" . I didn't forget the password, I just wanted to remove the password and now I don't know what's happening. How should I do for this matter?

The issue was solved. I was using the numpad and when I put the password I used the numbers in "regular keyboard". I didn't know it's difference to digit a 9, for example, using the numpad and the "regular keyboard".

  • G770 BIOS update

    Hello:
I have a BSOD 0x0000009F and this happens on hibernation.
I tried to update all drivers, but the problem remains.
Also tried to uninstall all drivers step-by-step to isolate the problem, same issue.
The only one I am left with is the BIOS, but I cannot overwrite of force falsh it because it comes up with "The version of ROM is the same as that of BIOS".
I noticed the BIOS was Insydeflash 5 - Beta 1.00 but when I checked in the in the CMOS settings on boot(while pressing F2) it displayed version 3.0
Also, I am not 100% sure about the AMD Radeon Graphics drivers as I unistalled them and re-installed with the drivers from Lenovo's website, but the issue remains.
Another issue I found was that when online movies or youtube videos are watched the audio drags, sometimes distorted.
    Any clues?
    The OS is Windows 7 Pro 64-bit, LenovoG770, Model 1037, i5-2450M, Radeon HD6650M.
Thanks a lot for your help. much appreciated!

I’m sorry to hear that G770 is displaying BSOD (Blue Screen Error of Death) while hibernate the computer and the issue is same even after re-installing the drivers for the computer. Below is the link to check the error related details and also to download the “Hot fix” that is available for download to resolve the issue.

If the issue persists even after installing the Hot Fix, I suggest you to perform reset the BIOS to its defaults:
To enter BIOS setup utility, press F2 when the Lenovo logo appears on the screen while the computer is starting up.
Then to reset to its defaults click on “F9” Key and select YES.
Now click on “F10” Key to safe the changes that are done in BIOS, the computer will automatically restart.
    Hope this helps!!!
Do post us back if the issue still persists.

  • Help! How to reset G770 BIOS password? Also blue screen 0x00000050 PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

Short story: After automatic updates every boot ends up with blue screen. I need to access BIOS to set the factory defaults, but the the guy i bought this laptop from forgot the password he put on BIOS...
Long story: One morning i was shutting down my laptop and automatic updates started, i haven't got time to wait so i closed the lid and left. Came back home, opened the lid, updating resumed and completed, restart - since then i never saw my Win 7...=( laptop crashes everytime with blue screen error 0x00000050 PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA even in safe mode... If you click on this link you can see the topic i've created at Microsoft Forum.
Full story: I got myself a G770 about a year ago, swapped i5 to i7, 750GB HDD to 120GB SSD, it was flying!!! Few months later GPU failed, then CPU, apparently they were fried due to insufficient cooling (probably crappy cheap paste i used), had to put original i5 back. Later battery failed so i decided to send it for warranty service repair. My work is highly computer-dependent so i got myself another G770 as a temporary replacement, took my SSD from the old laptop, put in the new one - no problem, until it failed after automatic updates, as explained in the "Long story"...
I really need your help guys, first of all with BIOS password, but also with getting my old Win 7 back to life, i don't even mind making a small "donation" for anyone who helps to sort this out for me. I work mainly with graphics/video software and i have apps perfectly set up to my needs with profiles etc and it would be a total nightmare to do a fresh install... Please...

Hi Gintaras, welcome to the forum,
you will need to get the previous owner to remember the password or another option would be to contact Lenovo service with a view to obtaining a new mainboard for your system.

  • Lenovo G50 BIOS in this system is not fully ACPI compliant

    Hello everybody !
I kinda have a problem as the title states. My neighbour has a Lenovo G50 she bought and came with windows 8.1 x64 ( which she doesn't like at all and in my opinion win7 is far more superior ). The thing is I wanted to install her the Windows 7 Ultimate but everytime the " loading files " ends right after it boots from the dvd I get a bsod with the message " The BIOS in this system is not fully ACPI compliant Stop 0x000000A5 "
I tried all kind of different settings through the bios, changed from UEFI boot to Legacy / disabled secure boot / fast boot / I set the ACHI to compatible / but the end result is almost the same ( two times with different settings my screen froze with a red line over the top after loading the files )
My question is what is the problem and is there a fix for it? (of course it is,but I don't know it )
     Thanks !
