Lenovo G780 Slow Wifi + Connectivity Loss

So, I bought a lenovo G780 59359250 metal Intel Core i7 3632QM(2.20GHz) 17.3" Notebook and the wifi on it caps out at 1.5 megabytes per second on a 15+ megabyte connection. I literally had my old HP next to this laptop and this laptop going at the same time. The hp was clocking in at 12 megabytes and this one was doing 1.4 megabytes.
Furthermore, when I download a bit, the wireless bars start to drop and I eventually lose the connection.
As these issues are only on the Lenovo and not the HP, the issue is not with the network, but rather with the Lenovo itself.
I've come to three possible conclusions
1. Windows 8 is doing this (unlikely, otherwise there would be rage everywhere)
2. Windows 8 doesn't play nicely with the wireless card (possible)
3. Wireless card is poor (very possible)
I was wondering what other people thought. I'm thinking about getting an AC1200 wireless adapter for this laptop. Will this possibly remedy the situation?
Thanks
I really need the speed. 1.5 megabytes + connection drops are killing me >.<.

hi nestharus,
Welcome to the Forums.
If you have the Atheros AR9485 Wireless Adapter, can you try this driver:
Drivers for Atheros AR9485 and Windows 8
Version: 10.0.0.234
OS: Windows 8 32/64bit
File: win8-10.0.0.234-whql.zip
Alternativey, does the issue happens also if you boot into Safe Mode with Networking? (if you get a stable good download then it's possible that a security software is interferring with the wireless connection).
Edit:
Using the Dink Wireless AC1200 Dual Band USB Adapter will definitely improve the performance (you may need to set it to 2.4Ghz if you only have a single band router)

neokenchi

  • Why do I have Intermittent Wifi Connection Loss during music streaming ?

    Hello,
I have an ipad3 and an iPhone 4S and I am getting with both devices interruption of the sound when I send music to the Apple TV. It generally happens after a few minutes. The signal for the wifi is still good and I have still access to the Internet  I have tried all the recommendations of the article "iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections" but this did not help. I have used several applications for sending music to the Apple TV (music application from Apple and DSAudio from Synology) but I'm getting the same issue. I have also the same issue with the media center application from Bouygues Telecom connecting directly to my internet router. My router is a bbox sensation. I had also the same kind of issue with my old router when sensing photo albums to the internet: I had the error message "your system is running low on ressources". How can I solve these intermittent wifi connection losses ?

    Try #5.
    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • 5s on 8.0.2 Slow WiFi Connection - worth a try

I've been suffering from slow WiFi connection since I updated from iOS 7 to 8.0.2 and it got worse after updating a game (CoC). Its taking ages to load the game, download any app from app store, or any internet related task. Anyway, my WiFi issue is fixed and just want to share this workaround to help other people who is suffering and very much frustrated out there, like I was.
Go to SETTING - GENERAL - RESET - RESET NETWORK SETTINGS.
    WARNING!!!
Doing the above will reset all your network settings including network passwords
    Disclaimer
I'm not responsible for any damage/loss it may cause to you or your phone. Do at your own risk

I have all the same problems. I have a 5S. What I have found that if I reset network settings or power off/on - wifi will work for 5-10 mins, then go back to a crawl.  BTW I am on IOS 8.1. Same issues
    I tried:
    -resetting network settings
-hard reset (home and lock button)
    -Reset everything
    -Restore Iphone (IOS 8.01/8.02/8.1)
    -Restored iphone from new
    -Turned off wifi networking
-Went to Genius bar and they gave me a new phone, it worked for a few days, then back to this.
It is a software issue. Because every other device works just fine on wifi (iphone 4, ipad, laptop, desktop)
I will be calling apple support again later to see what they will say.  It is funny how Apple won't admit to known issues until a fix comes out.

  • New imac 27(Intel based, bought 2013) slow wifi connection with my Verizon fios actiontec router. All other wireless devices in the house(ipad 3gen,MacBook Air ,hp laptop) have a much faster connection. Should I change router settings to G only, etc

New imac 27(Intel based, bought 2013) slow wifi connection with my Verizon fios actiontec router. All other wireless devices in the house(ipad 3gen,MacBook Air ,hp laptop) have a much faster connection. Should I change router settings to G only, switch channel from auto to maybe 6,channel width to 20mhz? Already changed security settings to WPA2.  Currently router is running in mixed b and g mode.

If you have one computer running on G they will all run on G. All ROUTERS are backward compatible, in otherwords if you have a group of computers and all of them are N compatible and one or two are G They will all work but the N computers will run at N and those that are G will run at G speed not N.
It can get confusing but really it is simple. The newest is 802.11 AC and ic used with the newest Mac Computers made available in November 2013. So if you have the newest Airport Extreme that is 802.11ac and the newest computers that are AC compliant your speed will be 5 times faster than anything on the market right now.

Any news on ios 8.0.3 update? Been waiting for it coz of my slow wifi connection after i updated my iphone 5s to ios 8.

I have heard rumours of an 8.1 update for developers. I just found another bug in 10.9.5. I am beginning to think that nobody should touch any update from Apple until they can get their very serious Q/A problems sorted out. This is getting bad.

  • !TRIED EVERYTHING! PLEASE HELP! Lenovo thinkpad twist super slow WIFI connect to home router

I love my twist i just wish my wifi would work at home!
It connects and works fine at public places
At home it takes forever to connect maybe have to try 5 times taking 5-7minutes and it will disconnect sometimes if computer goes black
I have : lenovo thinkpad twist s230u with windows 8
    I have a : Broadcom 802.11n Network Adapter
    I have a : Broadcom driver 6.30.59.26
Troubleshooting that i have already tried: adjusting wifi power settings, downloading lenovo driver
    PLEASE HELP

I would try plugging the laptop directly into your cable modem, thus by-passing the router, and check your connection speed.  Next, connect the router to the cable modem and plug the laptop directly into the router by cable. Compare your connection speeds.  If both work fine by cable, then I think your wifi on the home router isn't broadcasting/working.  You say the wifi connects at work/public, which leads me to believe it is not your laptop wifi card.  What is your wifi signal strength from your home network? work? public?

  • AirPort Time Capsule (firmware v7.7.3) has slow wifi connection to new Surface Pro 3

I got a new Surface Pro 3 i7. I have all the updates for it. I ran into a problem that many others also ran into which was very slow WiFi performance. I utilized many troubleshooting methods and sources and I am currently inclined to believe this... the new Marvell AVASTAR Wireless-AC Network Controller drivers are not compatible with my Airport Time Capsule firmware version 7.7.3.
    Has anyone else experienced this?
Is there another firmware version that works (older or newer)?
    Details:
I tried all kinds of things, like changing the network drivers on the SP3 to many different versions. Many of the help forums recommended using the drivers dated 4/24/2014. This did seem to help, but not reliably. What I discovered is... if I connect using the SP3 WiFi to my network extension Airport Express on version 7.6.4, I reliably get 20-22 mbps (which is the best I can expect from my network and works great for my needs). But, when I connect to my primary network Airport Time Capsule, the best I can get is 1.5 mbps, but usually between .15 and .9 mbps. It's completely unusable in today's internet environment. At the same time, I used my iPhone and the Airport Utility to verify the connections.  I used SpeedTest.net on my MacBook, iPad, iPhone and Win8.1 HP laptop to verify that every other device was getting the 20+mbps. And they did.  Only the Surface Pro 3 couldn't perform when using WiFi through the Airport Time Capsule. The SP3 does achieve 20+ mbps like all my other devices, but only when connected to the Airport Express.
The articles I read said that the network drivers on the SP3 seem to require the routers to be updated to the latest versions. Both the Airport Time Capsule and the Airport Express seem to be updated. When I go into their settings using the Airport Utility, there are no updates available.
Of course this problem isn't replicated at the Microsoft store since they don't have apple routers.  So, their response is to upgrade the routers.  Extremely unhelpful when the Apple software is saying it is upgraded already. I can't believe this new Airport Time Capsule has to be retired because it isn't playing well with others, and I love the automatic backup it is providing for my MacBook. So, somehow, I need the Airport Time Capsule to work with the new WiFi card & drivers on my SP3, just like the SP3 is working properly with the Airport Express.

    Thanks for your input!
    1. No downgrade. Bummer, but understandable.
    2. Completely agree!!! I did too and then I had to redo it because I couldn't install a driver. I had to start all over and reinstall Win 8 then Win 8.1 over it. It was a colossal waste of time and endless frustration. If I can just get it modestly working, I'll take it. It doesn't have to be perfect right now.
    3.  Great suggestion! And the Microsoft forums are also a buzz. One suggestion I tried (and it seems to be working) is to set a separate wireless network name for the 5ghz band. I haven't thoroughly tested it yet, but I'm hopeful.  I t seems to have worked for some, but not others. The next thing I'll try is fixing the channel, but strangely, I didn't see that option in the AirPort Utility app on my iPhone. Is it only available through Mac/PC laptop/desktop software?
    4. Yup. Sigh. I actually have an old linksys. I retired it when I went 100% apple. I was hoping that things would work smoother. And they did! Until this SP3 came into my life. Arg.
And and a few more details...
the AirPort Time Capsule is 802.11ac
the AirPort Express is 802.11n (2nd gen)
I'm wondering if it is the AC connection that is the issue. Maybe since the Express always connects with n, it is OK....
Nope. Just tested the SP3 again and it is maintaining it's connection to the AirPort Time Capsule utiling the 802.11a/n/ac mode and connecting to the 5Ghz special network name. So far so good... Fingers crossed...

  • Slow wifi connection - going crazy trying to figure it out. Sadface.

    Howdy,
I read through the forum and tried to find a solution to this problem but everyone seems to be experiencing differences in what is wrong with their problem and I have yet to find a solution to mind.
    Problem:
Recently I've noticed my wifi connection has been slow. Slow as in Firefox will sit at "Looking up..." or "Transferring data from..." and just sit there for a few minutes then idle out, stop loading the page or give me an error stating that the server is too busy, or cannot be found. A manual refresh will either restart the process or go immediately to the site. To describe the slowness in another way as if someone is downloading something on the network that causes it to lag. I verified that my computer is not the problem (all downloads offline).
I've made no changes (except for one, stated below) to my network preferences, my router or anything. I haven't recently installed anything on here that would interfere with my network settings either.
    Failed solutions:
    - Resetting/Restarting my computer, the router and the cable modem.
    - Turning Airport on and off, even switching to a different wireless signal in the house (We have DSL and Cable, don't ask) and I get the same results from both connections.
    - OpenDNS. It solved one problem temporarily (one server seemed to be offline when in reality it was not, OpenDNS let me go there again but the speed issue remains.)
    - Software Update -- Everything is updated.
Also note that my signal strength is full all the time. It will occasionally dip down but that's nothing as the router is in a room beside mine.
My Linksys Wireless G with Speedboost router is secured with WPA and the Mac filtering enabled to only allow this laptop, my iPod Touch and my Nintendo DS access. Could this security be compromised and someone jacking my signal?
I'm at wit's end here. I've usually been able to find my solutions for these problems on a wired Windows computer but this Wifi stuff on my Mac is driving me bonkers. To me everything seems to be green but I know somewhere there is a problem.
If I did miss an important thread, please point me in the direction of it and I'll remove this topic.
Here's hoping this thing will post without timing out.
EDIT Further searching shows me this is a common problem. I guess that's a good thing.

Your Mac stores previous DNS Lookups, Ned's suggestion just empties that cache.
I'm wondering if this could be MTU (Maximum Transmission Unit) related (i.e. packet size) some ISP's can be quite picky about this ...
Apple have an article on setting it for 10.2 (but not for 10.4) here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107474
CockTail also allows you to set this.

  • Lenovo V560 drops wifi connection - cannot restore without reboot

    Hello,
First off let me say that I'm  earning a BS in Computer Science, so I know more than most when it comes to computers, yet this issue vexes me.  I only say that so that any replies understand that my level of technical comprehension is far above average.
The title pretty much says it all, I have a 6month old Lenovo Ideapad V560 that cannot maintain an internet connection.  Let me describe the problem in a little more detail:
    PROBLEM:
This computer can connect to any wifi, and seems to drop the connection fairly randomly, however it will drop the connection FASTER when I'm more active, such as loading multiple web pages simultaneously.  That said, it ALWAYS drops the connection during a session, and NOTHING I do can restore the connectivity apart from rebooting.
This issue has nothing to do with the router, as it happens on every wifi connection I've ever connected to, school, home, work, McDonalds, etc.
I've already extensively researched the issue, so please don't reply and just start linking me to related threads, I've read them, they weren't helpful.
I've done a few things already in an effort to resolve the issue, such as:
    1) Re-installing Windows 7 Pro x64
    2) Re-installing wifi driver
    3) Disassembling the machine, removing and reinstalling the wifi Card
    4) Disabling "Allow computer to turn device off" power management settings for wifi card and miniport (all network devices, actually)
    5) Removing all Lenovo "bloatware"
Again, it is not a connection specific issue, it doens't matter how the connectio is configured, it seems indepedant of that.
Any help anyone can offer would be helpful!

On topic: I have the same issue with Lenovo B560 (factory installed WiFi adapter: GTC BCM4313 M).
In the same time and the same WiFi network my old Lenovo IdeaPad Y550 works perfectly.
Is there any way to make this Broadcom (or GTC?) adapter work uninterruptable?
Currently it requires to reboot or hibernate and power on again to revive adapter.
Off topic: yesterday instead of my message about the same issue posted I have seen the following error:
Please correct the highlighted errors and try again.
Post flooding detected (community got posts of a unique message more than 1 times within 3,600 seconds)

  • Slow Wifi connections?

    Hey all,
Anyone noticed that connecting to Wifi with the Touch is a lot slower than with a laptop? And I don't mean a little slower.. it is often to the point where just loading facebook or gmail can take well over 5 minutes. Sometimes I just sit and let it load, go do something else, come back and it still isn't done.
    Anyone else experience this?

    Hi nategodd-
Does this happen with any wifi connection or one in particular? How is the signal? Are you doing anything else with the Touch while surfing?
    Luck-

  • RV220W: Very slow wifi connection???!!!

I'm an IT professional with more than 10 years experience. I have spent last 5 days trying to figure out why the wifi connection to this router is so slow, but still no luck. I'm getting only 13Mbps even if my laptop is next to the router! (wired connection worked ok)
I have tried all sort of setting combinations, 2.4GHz/5GHz; N only/ G,N Mixed;  Auto/20MHz bandwidth; different channels; WPA2 encrypted vs open; disable firewall; wmm enabled/disabled; 1.0.0.26/1.0.1.0 firmware... no matter what I try, I always get only 10 - 15Mbps speed.
Once I replace this router with my old router, it worked perfectly --- getting 70 - 80Mbps with exactly the same testing environment and configuration.
I really expect this router to offer much faster wireless speed according to this review:

  • Very slow wifi connection on my MBP

I'm having problems with my wifi connection on my MBP. My iPad, iPhone and iPod all work absolutely fine but for some reason I have a very slow connection on the MBP. If I connect it to the router with a wire it's fine so it's definitely the wifi.
The only other thing that's changed recently is our Internet package. But this hasn't effected any of my other devices and we actually upgraded our package so I think that's coincidental.
Is it a known problem with MBPs? Should I take it to the genius bar or is there a simple solution.
    Thanks in advance

thanks for the tip. unfortunately, removing the security from the router isn't an option as it isn't even my router (my roommate owns it and would never allow that to happen).
the thing that is perplexing is that it hasn't always been slow - this just started happening within the last two weeks. one could assume that if one computer experiences a slow internet connection, the other would as well if they are both going through the same router. secondly, the connection strength, despite it being slow, is at the maximum. finally, if i connect to any other network at school or coffee shop, the connection is fast. there's obviouly something specific to my MBP and the router that the computer doesn't like, which is causing the lag.
maybe my MBP doesn't like the channel that the router is set to. i'll look into getting it switched as it may be the root of the problem.

  • IPad Air slow WiFi connection

I'm having WiFi connection speed problem with new iPad Air and Airport-extreme 802.11ac.
I can get over 30Mbps download speed with old iPad2 but with new iPad Air, I get only 7 or 8Mbps.
I saw https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5516013 (Slow WiFi on the new iPad Air). He solve the problem by changing the Channel Bandwidth settings on the router but not such setting on airport-extreme 802.11ac.

I have had the same issue but it has not been fixed by renaming the 5Ghz network. We have two iPad Air connected to HH5.  I have manged to reproduce the issue described where wifi crashes if streaming and downloading. I can also reproduce on both iPads. Other devices including an iPad2 work fine.
I have even turned off the 2.4GHz and was able to reproduce the issue.
It would be good if others could also repeat the following test.
    1. Connect Ipad Air to 5GHz wifi band
    2. Stream from bbc iplayer - live channel
    3. Download a large app such as Pages / Numbers / Garageband.
Pretty much everytime the wifi crashes. Without downloading apps I can stream without error. Also no issue seen on the 2.4Ghz band.
Apple have asked me to visit Apple store to try and reproduce on their network so hopefully this will prove if it is the iPad or HH5 at fault.

  • Slow WiFi connection in Macbook Pro Late 2013

My WiFi connection was quite sluggish lately in Windows 8.1 under Bootcamp. I went through Windows re-install as per Apple's support request, but that didn't solve the problem. So, while i waited for the Apple engeneering to react, i went to the adapter settings and turned off IP6 protocol, and it worked like a charm! It appears my machine was connected to the wireless adapter via IP6, which as it appears is not correctly handled by the wireless adapter's driver. Posting this here in case someone faces the same issue.
