Lenovo H230 - upgrade from Windows 7 Home Premium to Professional

I would like to put Professional on my H230 in such a way as to have it in the RECOVERY PARTITION so I will be able to RECOVER to that version.  I do not believe an INSTALL will allow that.
How do I install to the RECOVERY PARTITION?  so it will be the RECOVERY version?

Well, I'm embarrassed to admit I rather "jumped the gun" on this one ... having written and posted my query I thought I'd see if a Restart would help ... it did!! Turns out I am now satisfactorily upgraded to Pro.
Sorry if I have wasted anyone's time and ... if you're experiencing a similar problem ... I'd advise you go for a Restart before panicking ... like me!!

  • Upgrade from Windows Home Server 2011

Even though Windows Server 2012 Essentials is being mentioned as a replacement for Windows Home Server 2011, there doesn't seem to be any documentation or mention of can you upgrade from Windows Home Server 2011 to Windows Server 2012 Essentials?
Will this work with the beta download and will we then be able to upgrade this version to the RC and/or release version?
As you may guess I have a Windows Home Server 2011 and am interested in looking at Windows Server 2012 Essentials to see what it offers me. The storage spaces sounds exactly what I want to replace the drive extender on the previous home server version. The
problem is that I don't mind sacrificing my present server box by installing the beta but it would be nice if it actually retained what settings it could via an upgrade option, which I could then have a chance of using with a proper release version.

Just clarifying about the 'upgrade path' and 32b vs 64b.
Yes, no in-place upgrade. However, one could theorise about some form of 'migration' being possible, where the list of users, the content of your shares, the current backups, would be 'moved' from old box to new.
I was in fact pretty sure no such process existed. (Wouldn't it be neat though? AND in future _at least theoretically_ possible, using processes similar to SBS AD migration.)
From this perspective putting the new box onto the network is similar to replacing WHSv1 with WHS11, in that nothing is carried over. No gain, but no lesser. Working on currently available information.
The later comment about the work laptop is, TTBOMK, a resounding 'NO'. When attempting to join a member of another AD the 'connect' process stated 'You must 1st remove the PC from the other AD'. I haven't tested this extensively but believe that PC's _capable_
of operating in an AD (Pro, vs Home, versions) will be made members of the WS12E AD. It is only PC's that do not have 'domain join' capability that are left in workgroup mode.
    TTBOMK, AFAICS, so far, etc...

  • Upgrading from Vista Home Premium to 7 Ultimate

I'm upgrading my PC from Vista Home Premium Edition to Window 7 Ultimate Edition, but I have to do a custom (clean) install. Will Photoshop CS4 still work? If so, what's the best way to do this without killing Photoshop? will it allow me to reinstall onto a different OS? I had the same issue when I changed from an XP maching to a Vista Machine - Photoshop wouldn't work at all.

As far as I know you will have to de-activate and uninstall Photoshop before upgrading the OS and then reinstall and re-activate under Win7.
Even if it weren't necessary I'd advise it anyway.
Don't forget to save out any actions, brushes and any other personal extras!

  • Can I change the OS of Touchsmart 610 from Windows Home Premium to Windows 7 Pro?

I have 610 1100me system loaded with Windows Home Premium 64 bit.  We bought it from Dubai and is in use in Pakistan.  It started giving problems after few weeks of use.  Its' hard disk makes noise and sometimes, system could not find boot disk.  Most of the times blue screen of death and hanging issues.  Any idea about this issue and how to fix it?  My observation is that the culprit is hard disk!
Also, can I change its OS to Windows 7 Pro or ultimate (32 or 64 bit)?  Where can I find all drivers for Pro or Ultimate?
Many thanks for your valueable advice.

    Hi,
Nearly nothing change interms of drivers required for Windows 7 (HP, Pro, Ultimate) unless you switch from 64 to 32 bit. You can reuse your current HP 64 bit drivers for 64 bit W7 Pro or Ultimate.

  • Upgrade lenovo laptop 0768 from XP home to XP Professional

    Hi,
I want to upgrade my lenovo, 0768 laptop, operating system from XP home to XP Professional.  Is this possible?
I want to do a full, clean install.  Will it be possible to find all the drivers I need to get everything back in working order?
Thanks for any help in advance

Why are you upgrading to Pro?  About the only benefit would be to log on to a corporate network.  Do you need to do this?

  • Upgrade from Vista Home Premium to Ultimate

I have a T61 with Home Premium that came OEM. I bought a Vista Ultimate with SP1 Upgrade online (download only). Later realized that I should have bought the "Anytime" upgrades that MS offers. Too late now though, no refunds on the download, so I am trying to figure out a way to make it work.
I have a few questions and your help is greatly appreciated:
    1. Can I install from the downloaded file or do I need to burn a DVD with the files I downloaded and boot from DVD?
    2. What is the best way to get the applications and drivers that came with the T61 for the Vista Ultimate version?
Any tips or suggestions are welcome. I am going to try this tomorrow so I am really hoping it works out.
    Srini

Any ideas anyone? I even called Thinkpad support but they refered me to the forums. Said they don't support non-OEM upgrades..
Also, I understand that I will lose the backup and recovery partition that comes with the OEM if I install Vista Ultimate fresh. Is that an issue? I've never really used that partition in the past. I am planning to use the Ultimate version's feature to image my PC after install so I can recover from that instead in case of a failure. Does that feature work well usually?

  • NB550D - Upgrade from Windows 7 Starter to Professional

    Dear All,
I recently bought a Toshiba NB550D and need to upgrade the pre-installed Windows 7 Starter to Windows 7 Pro. I tried the (preinstalled) Anytime Upgrade Wizard but this does not work. I get stuck in the wizard because - as he tells me - "You might need to change locale or language settings to purchase Windows Anytime Upgrade online". I learned that in order to use Anytime Upgrade the locale settings must be identical to those of the country where your billing address is located. For me this country is Switzerland, so everything needs to be in German.
The problem is, the Windows 7 Starter installation always uses English as "Display Language" and this cannot be modifed after installation. I tried rolling back the installation but there is no choice possible, it is always English. All other locale and language settings can be modified.
    My questions:
    - Is there a way to force the display language of Windows 7 Starter to German (either before or after initial installation)?
    - Is there a way to upgrade to Windows 7 Pro circumventing the problem, e.g. by using a different approach than the anytime upgrade wizard?
    - Any other suggestions which might help?
    Thank you
    gg

    Hi buddy,
This is depending on the preinstalled Windows 7 Starter. If Windows 7 Starter was preinstalled in English language just an upgrade to an English version of Windows 7 Professional is possible. So you cant upgrade from English to German for example, therefore you have to buy a new Windows 7 version.
So either you buy a new Windows 7 Professional version in German or you upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate. The Ultimate version provides MUI (Multilingual User Interface).

  • Upgrading from Vista Home Premium to Vista Ultimate

This is a question for someone at Toshiba:
I have a copy of Windows Vista Ultimate DVD (given away a at conference I attended) and I'd like to use it to upgrade my Satellite laptop to Windows Vista Ultimate. This morning I did a clean install using this DVD but then when I installed the Toshiba drivers I found the HD-DVD player would not install.
I assume becuase it did not recognise the laptop as a Toshiba laptop, is this correct?
I hence used the Toshiba recovery CD to get back to a working laptop again (and spent all afternoon recovering all my files from backup) but I still want to upgrade to Vista Ultimate. I could just change my system's product key (from Control Panel -> System) to a Vista Ultimate key but I'm concerned the Toshiba Value Added software (HD-DVD player, etc) will stop working.
Alternatively I could do an upgrade install from the DVD though this will take ages and again I'm concerned the Toshiba Value Added software will stop working.
Can someone at Toshiba confirm the safe way of upgrading to Vista Ultimate.
    Thanks,
    Darren

    Hi Darren
Just one thing at the beginning:
    >This is a question for someone at Toshiba
Sorry but you have misunderstood something. This is user-to-user forum and you will not get answer from Toshiba directly.
    Back to described issue:
I have very good experience with Vista upgrade. I have installed clean Vista Ultimate version on my Satellite A200 notebook. All necessary drivers, tools and utilities you can find on Toshiba support page.
About Toshiba DVD player I can not say anything at the moment but reading similar posts it must be just an update and because of that it can not be installed on your notebook.
For me the best solution for you is to change activation key and use Vista Ultimate. When activated you can update all Toshiba stuff including VAP. It has no influence on preinstalled OS version.

  • Lost User from 7 home premium after upgrading to 8.1.

I was having installer problems with windows 7 home premium. Nothing would install and the computer was just generally was getting more and more non functional. I couldn't even make a backup system image or restore from a image I had made
6 months earlier. I decided to just go ahead and install 8.1 over the 7 home premium I was having problems with. I purchased the upgrade, downloaded it and installed it. Now I have lost my user from 7 home premium. I cannot access any files that I used to
have ownership of with my "Jim" user. I seem to have a user of "[email protected]" and none of my external drives or local files will open any more. Can I insert a "Jim" user back into
8.1 and then access the unavailable files and folders. Why did 8.1 change my user name and permissions? How do I get back into my things?
My comp is a Velocity running Intel CoreI7 cpu [email protected] processor. I have 6 drives installed into it And 3 monitors on two display adapters.
    Jim

    Hello Jim,
Do you mean that you install the Windows 8.1?
If yes, you can't 'insert a "Jim" user back into 8.1 and then access the unavailable files and folders.', it is by design.
Do you still have the folder related to user 'Jim' in driver?
If yes and you can't access the folder, please refer to the following article about taking folder ownership in Windows 8.

  • Need Detailed instructions to install new hard drive & upgrade from Vista Home to Win7 Enterprise

    Hi folks,
    I have this laptop machine:
    Lenovo 3000 G530 4446-23U Laptop Computer - Intel Pentium Dual-Core T3400, 2GB DDR2, 160GB HDD, DVDRW, 15.4" WXGA, Vista Home Basic
I need to install another hard drive and I also want to upgrade to Win7 Enterprise Edition while doing the rebuild.
I am very nervous about doing this as I upgraded a W530 from Win7 basic to Win7 Enterprise and ran into all kinds of drive issues.  And I thought that would be about as straightforward as you could get, but it a far cry from that.
I do not want to have to go through that again - I still don't have everything working on it.
Can someone please tell me the precise steps to take to do this upgrade and how to ensure that I obtain ALL the drivers for EVERYTHING on the laptop and how to ensure that all those drivers are correct and exactly how to install them.
If there are other issues associated with upgrading from Vista Home to Win7 Enterprise, please advise of those and the solutions.
    Thanks very much.....
    Gus

    hi gmercanti,
    Welcome to the Lenovo Community.
The easiest way to upgrade Vista to Windows 7 is to run the Windows 7 Installer inside WIndows. Follow this guide for instructions. After upgrading, you will need to install the Windows 7 Drivers for Lenovo G530 4446 via http://support.lenovo.com.

  • How To: Upgrading from Windows XP to Windows 7 pro

I upgrades from windows 7 home to windows 7 pro.
I could not use the anytime upgrade option, so I did a full install
I had a problem that I notice is common for many people, I came up missing drivers for my lan and wifi cards among others, I followed the advice given to others, and found chipset drivers and a few others, however, I had loaded some drivers already, so I am coming up missing the ntwork controler and the usb 2.0 crw. I am also missing the drivers for the camera, and special functions on the key board. I believe that the first step I need to take is to throw away some drivers and reinstall the chiipset drivers and others I have read recommended. However, I don't know what to throw out.

If you ask for help here, it's generally best to respond in less than a week to someone who's offered to help you. But, let's assume you were very tied up or away.
Regardless, your model's specifications clearly show that your system originally came with Windows 7 Home Premium, and that it came out in 2013. So, it's difficult to understand why you are upgrading from Windows XP to Windows 7. Oh, wait, I see your thread title says from Windows XP to Windows 7 pro, but in the text of your original post it says from Win7 Home to Win7 Pro. Again, this is a little confusing.
Regardless, as it's safe to assume you have already wiped out your Toshiba Recovery Partition in doing a clean install of Win 7 Pro. So, let's just try this. Download this Toshiba utility, double click to begin installation.

  • Upgrade Win 7 Home Premium running on bootcamp to Win 7 Professional

    Hi guys,
I had installed Windows 7 Home Premium on my iMac using bootcamp. I have 2 queries which I need help with.
    1. Can I upgrade from Windows 7 Home Premium to Windows 7 Professional using Windows Anytime Upgrade kit? Or, do I need to remove Windows 7 Home Premium and get myself a full version of Windows 7 Professional and reinstall on bootcamp?
    2. After I install Windows 7 Professional on bootcamp, will the XP mode in Windows 7 Professional work for me?
Anyone has any experience with this? I hope someone can help me on this.

    Thanks for the advise guys.
Csound1, I was looking at the Anytime Upgrade options given on http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/products/windows-anytime-upgrade . This has an option to move up from Windows 7 Home Premium to Windows 7 Pro. Am I missing something here? Would be really glad to get some help.

  • Upgrading from windows vista to windows 7

I am upgrading from windows vista to windows 7. The upgrade I am using is going to delete all of the information I currently have on my hard drive.
I have itunes set up with all of the correct artist/album/track/cover image information for my files. I also have consolidated all of these tracks to an external hard drive - no mp3s in itunes are stored on my local hard drive. I consolidated these tracks after I edited all of the artist/album/track/cover image information.
My questions is this. Once I reinstall itunes on windows 7, when I import these tracks from the external hard drive - are the edits to the files (artist/album/track/cover image information) going to be shown in itunes like they were prior to the windows upgrade? I have a large number of tracks that I have invested a huge amount of time into and I really don't have the time or patience to duplicate the effort.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this?
Thanks in advance for the help.

  • Unable to upgrade from Windows 8.1 SL to Windows 8.1 Pro

I just bought a brand new Lenovo G510 notebook and I am battling to upgrade from Windows 8.1 SL x64 to 8.1 Pro x64.
    I used the process:
Right click This PC -> Properties -> Get more features with a new edition of Windows -> I already have a product key
Then, type the key you bought...BUT the code is not accepted and I really do not wish to do a fresh install of Windows.
Any ideas on how I can get this done quickly without a fresh install.
    Thank You.
