Lenovo H330 2 short beeps at power up, but everything runs normal

As descripted in the title, what does that "2 short beeps" code stand for?  Even if the computer runs normally right now, should I worry about something is going to fail soon?  Thanks for any response.

hi fun148,
When you hear the two short  beeps during POST, does it give you any error on the screen? (the boot-up process will usually be interrupted until you press a key (usually F1) to continue booting the OS).
If you don't get any error, try to:
1. Boot into the BIOS by repeatedly tapping F1 during boot-up
2. In the BIOS, press F9 to reset the factory defaults and press F10 to save and exit. (this will reload the hardware configuration of the desktop).
3. Inside Windows, check if all of the hardware parts are functionjing properly (i.e. USB ports, RAM capacity, etc.)

neokenchi

  • Lenovo z50 3 short beeps issue

Hello community. Im owning a Z50 i7 6 months just and an issue with 3 short beeps popped up it sometimes does when trying to boot windows and sometimes just randomly while working. Im asking bcs there is no 3 short beeps on lenovo beep explenation site. My OS is W 10 preview but i encountered the problem already at W7. Im kinda dissappointed that after suché a short period stuff like that happening. I appreciate your help.

    Hi kristof31395,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
    Try Resetting BIOS to defaults,
Turn the system OFF and Press the OKR Button and select Enter Set up or set up utility.
You should be able to get into BIOS, Press F9 to load Defaults Then F10 to Save and Exit.
If you still have the problem,
Boot into Windows and Open Device Manager, Check if you have any Device Error or notification.
Also Try running LSC and check for any errors.

  • Ivy Bridge CPU 4 short beeps then Power down

Hi I just got a I7 3770 and when trying to get the board to post it beeps 4 times (short).
I was wondering what the beeps are telling me.
I am using a Z68 MA G45 (B3) board and back in February I asked about a compatible bios and was sent a link to a beta bios that should work.
So I took the risk to try it as I can always get another board if needed as I am building a cheap pc for a family member using the Pentium G620 that I was using till the Ivy Bridge was available.
Hoping I don't need to buy a new board as the 7 series are a little more expensive here. But the extra features will be worth in the long run.
I have asked MSI online support to confirm if the bios is ok but as they are not there till Wednesday as they had 2 days off I wont know for sure till tomorrow.
I thought I'd try anyway as I got impatient.
    Thanks for any help.
    Kevin

I put the Pentium G620 back in and it would not stay on and no beeps at all.
Then I swapped the I7 back in and still the 4 beeps.
So I took a break and decided after an hour searching the web for help I would try the Pentium one more time.
And this time it worked ok and brought up the bios message that said there was a CPU/memory change and to press a key to go into the bios to reset the info.
So as it's late here (Melbourne Australia) I left the pc alone after switching the power off and will continue tomorrow.
So tomorrow I should know if the bios I have is compatible with the Ivy Bridge and if not I will get a 7 series board.
I just have to return the cheap board I brought and will get a credit towards another board.
Pity about the bios but that's technology for you.

  • Imac g4 does not power on, but everything checks out???

Alas, my (formerly) trusty imac does not power up anymore. I've tried every step in the service manual up to the point of replacing hardware, and so far no luck. Details of the machine, the problem, and what I've done follow.
The short story is that I'm faced with replacing the power supply and/or the logic board after both passed the diagnostic tests recommended in the service manual. Since they both passed the tests, my hopes for success are not high, but at the same time, replacement costs for the two (if I wind up replacing both) run about the same as a replacement machine on ebay! On top of that, I suspect the diagnostic tests available do not test one power supply output -- so maybe it's bad but I just can't tell.
I would appreciate any advice on the situation. Also, does anyone know if the power supply for the 1st gen machines (800MHz, 15") is supposed to have both 12V and 5V outputs? Thanks a bunch!
The computer: iMac G4 flat panel 800MHz, working fine from purchase in January 2002 (right after they came out) until August 2006
The situation: I moved to Japan. Upon unpacking the imac, it would not power on -- no screen, no bong, no sleep light, no fan noise, nada.
    What I have tried:
    -- taking it to the apple store (they quoted a $500-$800 repair -- ouch!);
-- opening it up and looking for lose wires, burned out power supply components, etc.: nothing found
--try new power cable; test line filter: everything okay
    -- reset PMU: no change
-- test battery: checks out, 3.58v; returned battery to imac, reset PMU: no change to computer (i.e. still no power)
--test power supply and logic board points as per service manual instructions; 12 V registered at all points. tests passed. But I wonder: I have read the the PS for some imacs are supposed to have a 5V output too, but there is no test for that output on this model. I wonder if there is a 5V output on this model, and if there is a way to test for it?
for those of you counting, that was 2 resets of the PMU, one before i removed and reinserted the battery, and one after. Both PMU resets were done by pressing the button once and holding for about 1 second.
    thanks any and all!
    david

    Hello all,
I have a 890fxa-gd65 and a xfx radeon 6870 HD in a new computer that I am trying to get running. I get 1 long and 2 short beeps at power on. From what i read from the forums it is a video problem. I know for certain the card is good. Anyone know what might be going on. I want to update the bios but obviously cannot with out video. Or can I? Anyone know of a way i can update the bios without video, and without having to buy another video card? just fyi, I know that the power supply is also good.
    Any help is appreciated.
One other question. I am new to MSI boards and was wondering what to do about the 6-pin video power plugin on the board itself. The card already has two 6-pin connectors so im not sure if the board plug needs to be used or not. I have tried booting with and without it so i dont think its the main issue, but i would still like to know what to do with it.
    Thanks,
    Derek

  • Just to share GREAT Experience with Lenovo Service with T61p one long two short beeps

Two weeks ago my laptop just suddenly died for no reason. It was in sleep mode and never woke up. I have researched some forums and found that the best thing to do is try to call the number of Lenovo service. I cannot remember it right now, but please check another thread t61p and one long two short beeps. The laptop was out of warranty and according to lenovo site it was 31. July was the last day for replacement claims, however nobody asked a question regarding warranty or replacement. Lenovo sent the box promptly and whole turnaround was in 3 days.
I was really surprised with efficiency and service.
So, if you are in the same situation please give it a try.
    Good Luck!

I have used support service a few times and they have always been professional and helpful the support center in Ga. I called last night for my wireless card its on the way to me now I've never had any problems

  • T61P died, 1 long beep - 2 short beeps problem - Do the updates from Lenovo KILL our laptop?

    Hi all
I bought T61P from 2 years ago, everything is ok until yesterday, I turn on my laptop and nothing display on the screen, and with this :  1 long beep - 2 short beeps....
I make some search, and found a lot of people have the same problem, and almost happend from September - 2009 to now.
I asked my self why this problem does not happend in the 1st year of using T61P...and this only happend from September - 2009 to now? DO THE UPDATES FROM LENOVO KILL OUR LAPTOP?
My laptop is out of warranty, and I hate to replace another mainboard.... If I must do it, I will throw my laptop to the Trash, and never buy another Lenovo laptops.

so far it looks like a strict hardware problem, not related to updates. however, some manufacturers try to "cheat" with bios updates - they make fan to run at higher speed lowering the mainboard temp. This does not solve the problem per se, it just makes laptop survive beyond warranty expiration date, so you, dear customer, will have to foot the bill.

  • T61p exhibiting 1 long and 2 short beep and black screen

    All,
There have been multiple discussions over the past months concerning a 1 long and 2 short beep symptom on some T61 and T61p model systems.   Over the last several weeks members have begun to start additional topics on this theme and cross post between threads.
I am consolidating all the threads into this new discussion today.  Since many of these discussions were originally parallel, the dates and some of the context will now appear somewhat out of chronological order.  Please keep that in mind while browsing this thread.
If you are presently experiencing the 1 long and 2 short beep code with a black screen on boot up, I would recommend that you contact service at this time for assistance.
    UPDATE 1/4/2011
Previously, I have advised customers to contact service for assistance with the symptoms discussed here. In an effort to maintain customer satisfaction and loyalty, Lenovo has repaired a number of systems as post warranty exceptions. Lenovo will continue the post warranty support; however, with some revisions to the extended coverage effective December 31, 2010.
Customers who experience these symptoms on qualifying models that are no more than six months beyond expiration of warranty should continue to contact support for assistance. This additional coverage ends March 31, 2011.
Coverage beyond this date is available under the terms and conditions of extended warranty or maintenance agreements. Warranty extensions may be purchased for systems that are still within the base warranty period, and post warranty maintenance agreements may be purchased to provide coverage after base and extended warranty periods have expired. Extended warranties and maintenance agreements are a great way to ensure coverage for all the major system components.

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

2 is a coincidence, 3 is a pattern... and your problem is identical to mine, too, and happened just some days after mine did...
It seems to me, without wanting to be alarmist, that the T61p with the 570M gpu (or a batch of them) is failing with the same exact problem (1 long 2 short = GPU error) at the exact same time... scary thought, really.
Mine arrived at the lenovo repair center (it's still on warranty) on wednesday, and the status shows as "Repair complete, shipped to customer" as of yesterday. There is no tracking number or "Failing Element / part number" in the status page, tho. It hasn't arrived, either.
Do you know your planar card / motherboard part number? It would be interesting to know if it's the same as mine (42W7653). Were you affected by the problem shown at http://forum.lenovo.com/lnv/board/message?board.id=T_Series_Thinkpads&thread.id=30460&view=by_date_a... ?
And once Mark_Lenovo reads this, Mark, do you need any info? (serial number for the laptop, easyserv reference, etc?)
    EDIT/UPDATE:
I called the EasyServ warranty customer support to ask if they had any additional info not in the website, and as a matter of fact they do. The (very, very helpful and nice) man on the phone told me that the motherboard had been replaced and the laptop was due to arrive today, and he gave the UPS tracking number for it, which indeed says it's scheduled to arrive here today, at some point.
Once it's here I'll update with information about the actual repair and the part number of the new motherboard, etc.
To be honest  I'm more than pleasantly surprised about the service: the box for shipping my laptop arrived on wednesday, it was picked up that very same day, the laptop was repaired on thursday and arrives to me today, friday. If the laptop works as expected, this is a 10 out of 10 for lenovo customer support, at least for me.
I'm less-than-happy about the quality of the product, of course, but at least I got the 3-year warranty so lenovo paid for everything.

  • Won't start up - 3 long beeps and 1 short beep repeated

As I was watching Netflix, the display went crazy and displayed horizontal lines and the computer froze.
I held the power switch down to shut it off.
After restarting, seemed to work fine for a few minutes, then same thing happened.
Reset again. Seemed to start up fine (heard the chime and the hard drive going) but no display output.
Reset again. Got the start up chime, a white screen with horizontal lines, and I get 3 long beeps and 1 short beep repeatedly.
    Any ideas?
Thanks for your help in advance.

The beeps you're hearing means the system has no usable memory. You can try reseating the memory or swapping for other known working memory (pain as it is to open the mini up). Otherwise, typically that means it's new logic board time. See this Apple article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1547

  • 3 short beeps on boot up

3 short beeps on boot up

    Hi James,
1 beep = no RAM installed
2 beeps = incompatible RAM types
3 beeps = no good banks
4 beeps = no good boot images in the boot ROM (and/or bad sys config block)
5 beeps = processor is not usable
In addition to the beeps, on some computers the power LED will flash a corresponding number of times plus one. The LED will repeat the sequence after approximately a 5-second pause. The tones are only played once.
Note: In this case, a flash is considered to be 1/4 second or 250 ms or greater in length.
If this is a G5 PowerMac & you're sure the RAM is good, try the Hair Dryer trick...

According to this guide, the BIOS Beep Code that you are receiving is for a Memory problem.  You can test your memory by removing all of the modules and replacing them one at a time and booting.  Place the single module in the slot closest to the processor.

  • K9N4 SLI - three short beeps - windows won't start

My system has been running for at least a year without problem. I took the hard drives out and put them into a new system and put 2 other hard drives into this system. I reloaded windows, but after the second boot of the install process, windows tries to start, then reboots, even when trying safe mode. I tried 2 different versions of windows. These disks were fine in another system. When it boots, I get three short beeps. I have NO USB devices connected. I only have 2 hard drives, floppy, DVD, and video card. I read elsewhere in these forums that the three beeps are usb devices, and I did have 2 connected, but now have unplugged them. I get 3 beeps either way. I have completely removed power to reset it, no change.
The system I put the old drives into is working fine, and I pulled these drives out of a working system. The windows install runs fine until after the second boot, tried both XP home and XP Pro. I'm beginning to wonder if there is a hardware problem, but why would windows get that far and no further. I've tried setting the BIOS to optimized defaults, then just enable RAID, since I'm using a mirror.

Oh, sorry! I forgot to answer.
Beeping in this case has nothing to do with Windows or the hard disks, more than that the new ones probably consume more power. Beeping is almost always memory related, but it can also be the graphic card's memory. The PSU is probably not enough any longer. (My Father has got a 380W Antec PSU, but his system is five years old.) http://www.antec.com/Believe_it/product.php?id=NjM=  ...And:
    Max. Load 20A  20A  12v1 17A  12V2 15A
But before you buy a new PSU, in desperation, you might also try these troubleshooting steps:
    - Minimise the system. Use but motherboard, processor and memory and the PSU of course.
    - Use only one stick of memory, in the memory slot closest to the processor.
    - Make sure all power cables are firmly in place, one is needed close to the processor for example.
    - Check the dust situation - but I think you have moved around inside so much already it should not be a problem.
This is not to be rude, but occassionally when you work inside a case, your negative energy - or positive  - create an electrical pulse, bigger than the system can handle. Particularly memory/graphics memory chips are affected. If that is the reason, you can only hope a long period of inactivity and without connection to electricity (front or back) helps. You even have to take the CMOS battery out. Long period? At least over night.
