Lenovo Helix i7 CPU cpu clock down after Bios 1.14

Hi all.
I have about 25 Lenovo Helix, and I must admit that I'm a little angry - I have found out that after bios 1.14, then run the only maximum 2.5 GHz, whereas before it ran 3.0GHz - not that I have purchased. It's an easy solution to the heat, just to clock the CPU down.
Is there anyone who can help me, what can I do? Some have bios 1.10 to lie, it works with the real speed. You can easily feel the difference.
Thank you

Use a program like coretemp and after executing the program hit F4 or from the menus select logging. Run some processor intensive applications, either software (AutoCAD, hd video, etc.) or benchmark such as (IBT, Ortho, etc.) then review or post the csv here.
The multiplier is a ratio of the cpu clock rate and front side bus. For instance, with the Helix the fsb is just under/around 100mhz. The clock will either throttle down to 8x and speed up to 32x, resulting in cpu speeds between 800mhz to 3.2Ghz, respectively.

  • Helix CPU remains throttled down after redocking

    Dear all,
Here is a problem I've just noticed: when I redock the tablet on the keyboard, the CPU will never exceed 30 (occasionally 31%) usage and 0.75 GHz (occasionally 0.78), even under heavy stress (Intel Burn Test at maximum stress level, or CPU-intensive games), and even when temperatures are quite low (65° C) and fan speed far from being maximal (inaudible or just low noise).
I just checked the CPU speed and usage percentage using the Performance tab in the Task manager, so it might be inaccurate, but it is really clear that the CPU is clocked down. See the screenshot below during an Intel Burn test (it's in French, sorry):
    Link to picture
I've checked dozens of times: the max CPU speed is set to 100% in the advanced power settings for the power management profile I'm currently using, i.e., High Performance.
If redocking does not revert the CPU to its full capability, then the convertible feature of the Helix is of extremely limited interest. I've realized that because I started to search why my Helix sometimes seemed to show lower performance when executing tasks or running applications, despite free RAM, SSD in good health and with free space, and no processus eating much CPU. In summary, I could feel the différence, and that's how I noticed that it was capped at 30%.
All my drivers and BIOS are up to date. What should I do? Anyone else experiencing this? I'm running the i7 version, quite a disappointment to only benefit 30% of this expensive Helix version...

    Hi buddy,
the only thing you could do is to bring your machine to an ASP (authorized service partner) for a hardware checkup or BIOS repair because you in your situation cannot do anything.
Please, contact a service partner and send your machine to them, its the only way to solve your problems.
Heres a link to find the nearest ASP in your country:

  • Cpu speed is clocked down during heavy use (msi x79a-gd45) ?

    Hi
I overclocked my cpu, intel i7 3930K, 32 gb ram win 7 on msi x79a-gd45
    cpu base clock : 100
    adjust cpu ratio 42
    intel turbo disabled
    dram freq @1600
    cpu core temp 1.290
    hyper thread enabled
    Everything else is auto
This pc is running at 4.2 in general but when I do render type heavy cpu rendering cpu speed starts going down to 2900, they oscillate betwen 4200 and 2900/2700. I am trying to get it start around 4000. TO me it is kind of pointless that the cpu would clock down when I need them not too. I do not mind if they are clocked down when they are not in use.
    I have 750 W with corsair hydro h60
I asked this issue before but I was not able to resolve. I am hoping that someone else might be able to help me out here .
    thanks

Yes, with a Turbo OC on the Core Ratios (set them all to 44X) in CPU Features sub menu plus the CPU V. and CPU Ratio must both be set to Auto. EIST and C1E enabled. Enhanced Turbo enabled. Overspeed Protection disabled.
If the mainboard also has the VDroop option, then set it to 100%. Have you tried the CPU Ratio OC at 44X with the CPU V. in Auto already? If it is stable, then no need to try the Turbo method of OC. With CPU V. in Auto, you can enable EIST and C1E and get power saving features to work. CPU V. must be in Auto for the voltage to decrease at low use or idle (33C).
    Hi  PirateDog
Thanks for your reply, very helpful
    So I now have
    Cpu base 100
    ratio 44
EIST enabled (intel turbo disabled, enhanced turbo disabled)
    Dram auto
    Cpu Core V auto
    C1E Enabled
    C-State disabled
    Cpu Phase Control Disabled
    VDroop +%100
This setup seemed to push my average cpu temps by around 7C degrees, so I am around 64C if all are at max. I am not sure if this issue is from another place but worth mentioning. I am not sure if this is still in the good range. On the other hand this setup seems to lower my average idle temps couple degrees.
    Before I was using
    Cpu base 100
ratio 44 Cpu Core V auto
    Dram 1600
and everything else was either disabled or set to auto
    Any further recommendations?
    thanks

  • MSI Z77 Mpower + 3770K cpu doesn't clock down

Hi MSI Guys, need your help :
my back-up rig is now on duty, but cpu does not clock down, in default cpu speed or overclocked cpu speed
MSI Control Center doesn't shows cpu clock down, core temp 1.0 RC4 either, CPU-Z 1-62.0 x64 the same, only real temp 3.70 does.
In bios every thing regarding cstates and power saving are enabled :

Make sure in advanced, the min max cpu states are what you want them to be and if they are, try the newest beta. Looks like you have H53, it is up to: H57.
Also, after you flashed you bios last, did you re-installed the Intel ME drivers from Intel Downloads?
    http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=22092&keyword=management+engine&lang=eng
Edit: A clearing of the cmos may help as well. >>Clear CMOS Guide<<
i've update the bios as well, and made a correct clear cmos as you linked me to, and even updated those drivers as suggested, and nothing changes

Tried with CPU Phase Control 'Enabled'?
yes this too doesnt have any effect
just real temp 3.70 is reading the correct cpu speed, i went on another os installed on my system and no program reads cpu clock down & turbo mode speeds, only Real Temp 3.70 does.
    why? what is wrong now?

i have a t43 2668-43u. i tried to install intel m 770 cpu, unit shuts down without warning  shortly after booting to windows xp sp3 (i was in the middle of 7 upgrades).
i put the intel m 750 back in and the unit ran fine for 3 days (powered on the whole time).
is there some adjustments i need to make for the 770 to run correctly?
    thank you

Sounds like a bad CPU to me - 770, that is.
No adjustments of any kind are required, it's a plug & play upgrade.

  • 694D Dead? Changed CPU Host Clock

    Hello all,
This board was running great.  I had to do a new OS install and started playing in the BIOS to overclock it.  I wanted to change the CPU multiplier but did something with the CPU Host Clock setting.  After I changed it the board, just died.  It turns on, but the 4 LEDs are RED.  I had two PIII 800 w/1GB RAM
    I've done the following:
    1.  Pulled the board and installed one memory stick, one CPU and Video
    2.  Tried different CPUs (confirmed old CPUs are working fine in a Gigabyte board)
    3.  Cleared the CMOS by shorting the "Clear CMOS" jumper serveral times.
Any thoughts?  I saw this in a earlier post - http://www.flashbios.org/
    Thanks!
    NB

    Sorry I wasn't more complete:
I removed the battery, flipped the Clear CMOS jumper to clear the CMOS and removed all power sources, removed everything (CPU, Cards, etc)
I let it sit for a few days.
I then but the battery back, flipped the jumper so it would boot, added just memory, 1 cpu, and a video card.
    Same results.
    Thanks for helping out!

  • Lenovo 3000 N100 laptop shuts down after about 1 minute

Despite being plugged into AC power, my Lenovo 3000 N100 shuts down after about one minute. It boots properly but suddenly shuts down. I have not used this laptop much since purchasing it in 2006 and have seldom used it on battery power alone. Any suggestions before I buy a new battery? Maybe I am mistaken, but shouldn't the computer work on AC despite a depleted battery?

Hi Charleydog and welcome to the community,
Take the battery out  and unplug the ac.  Hold the power button down for about 15 seconds.  Do it twice.  Then plug only the ac in and see if it fires up.

    Hi Jeremy,
SNMP traps are shown in the events and alerts section of PI.
SNMP config looks fine. Can  you run the SNMP debug (debug snmp packets ) .check the logs and see if the device is actually sending the TRAPS to the PI server.

  • CPU FSB clock

I don't know much of computers and i have just bought an Athlon XP 2000+ processor. What BIOS settings do i have to change to make it work at the correct operating speed?
I've anyone could help me, i don't wanto fry my PC.
AMD says it's 266 for the CPU FSB clock it this correct?
    thanks
    Montana

    Welcome
It may be set up correctly now. What speed is your chip running now - about 1667 MHZ. How is chip IDed at startup - XP2000+? If not, say you have 2000+ Tbred, set FSB to 133 (266 DDR) and multiplier to 12.5 (think that's correct default). Be sure to give your motherboard manual a good read! Will help with settings.
Depending on your motherboard model, memory, cooling etc, you may (with some experience) be able to run that chip to 166-200 FSB. But don't try above 133 FSB without proper research. You can damage your system. You'll have to furnish your system details to get a better handle on its potential.

  • Confused about the 'cpu fsb clock frequency' setting, etc., in cell in bios

just got a new k8n neo2-f nforce3 board with an a64 3500+ venice chip.  It is properly recognized in the bios and windows as an a64 3500+ at 2.2ghz, but I'm confused about the cell menu settings in the bios. I see a 'cpu fsb clock frequency' which was automatically set at 200mhz, but the fsb runs at 1Ghz (1000mhz), so what is the 'fsb clock frequency' if not equal to the cpu fsb?  Is 200 the correct setting for that?  Should I need to change any of the other settings in here?  I wonder, because my 3dmark03 score only went up 200 points from the same system with a AthlonXP 2500+ chip and kt4avl mobo, which seems like a low increase to me.....

I would set that to Manual in BIOS, so that you can incremently increase the CPU speed without causing a sudden crash. Each system is different and operates within the specs of not only the CPU, but system memory and PCI-E add-ins as well. Your video card is the primary driver behgind your 3DMark scores...but you haven't listed that?!

  • Setting BIOS CPU FSB clock to 333

    Hello everyone,
I recently acquired the K7N2-Delta ILSR (MS-6570) motherboard;  nVIDIA Next GF2 400 FSB DDR.   The CPU is an Athlon XP 2500 1.85 GHZ, 333 MHz.
The mainboard specs states the Socket A (Socket - 462) supports AMD Athlon XP processors @ FSB 266/333/400.  I have the jumper J11 on the board set to 'short'.
With all that said, I've tried adjusting the CPU FSB Clock Frequency to 333 in the BIOS Setup Utility yet 200 is the highest option it gives.  Does the CPU Interface have to be set to 'High Performance'?  Other adjustments necessary?
        Thanks for any feedback!

200 mhz fsb is the correct setting, DDR is just that "double data rate" so 200 x 2 = 400 mhz

  • Cpu fsb clock setting?

I bought a Microstar MS-6380E KT3 Ultra with an AMD Athlon XP 1800+ (1.53Ghz) 266FSB CPU -- it just got in today.
I have it all set up EXCEPT for the clock frequency.  The 6380 has a default of 100mhz, up to 220.  But the AMD Athlon XP 1800+ is supposed to be a 266 fsb.
I don't want to overclock my system -- am afraid to endanger my system when I really don't need the extra processing power.  I just want it set the way it should be.
There's another field -- CPU Ratio/Vcore (V), w/ the following manual description for it:
The items are used to adjust the CPU clock multiplier (artion) and CPU core voltage (Vcore).  The fields provide users a tool to overclock the system.  WARNING: Changing CPU Ratio/Vcore could result in the instability of the system; therefore, it is NOT recommended to change the default setting for long-term usage.
I was gonna _guess_ that I set my CPU FSB Clock to 133 and input a CPU clock multiplier (ratio) of 2 (assuming I could do that).  Is that the correct way to configure this AMD Athlon 1800+ to this motherboard?  The  'CPU core voltage (Vcore)' descriptor is what is making me afraid of experimenting.  I would really hate myself if I destroyed my new cpu and/or motherboard less than 6 hours of having received it.
    Please advise.

I doubt you can set the clock multiplier to "2" - simply it isn't available. Even if it is available and u hv not unlock your CPU, adjusting the multiplier ratio has no effect at all.
The default multiplier for 1800+ is 11.5x. Multiply it by 133fsb you get 1529.50mhz, hence xp1800+ (1.53G).
Don't confuse yourself, juz follow this setting if u r not overclocking:
    FSB Clock: 133
    CPU Ratio: AUTO
    CPU VCORE: AUTO

  • KT4AV MSI-6712 Dead after BIOS Flash to support XP3000 CPU (Photos)

Hello, I'm a 15-year veteran system administrator and hardware hacker and this is the first time I have ever had what appears to be a truly DEAD mobo killed after a BIOS flash!
Of course I read all the stickies and spent 2 hours research & homework first, before posting here.  I tried everything to revive this mobo.
    Here's what happened:
MSI-6712 KT4AV system with onboard Audio and Ethernet, Athlon 2800+ CPU, 1GB (2 x 512MB PC2700 DDR) RAM.  300W PSU.  It's been running great for years with never an issue.  I just got a Athlon 3000+ CPU I wanted to upgrade, but before I did I decided I had better upgrade the BIOS to support this newer CPU, since the BIOS Version History says the later revisions handle the 3000 CPU.
I upgraded the BIOS from DOS Boot via a Bootable USB and it Verified successfully.  Then I rebooted and it said something like Invalid CMOS settings, so I entered BIOS Setup to view my new BIOS.  I noticed new features like Network Boot ability, so the new BIOS seemed to be a success.  (Note this was a soft-reboot, not a hard power-off reboot).  I set my normal settings and saved to reboot and the system was DEAD from that point on!  No beeps, monitor stays black.  CPU fan does run but that's it.
    Here is what I have:
(This image is larger if you view it directly)
    Things I have tried:
Removing all RAM and vacuuming dust, reseating 1 stick nearest the CPU.  (This shouldnt be necessary since I have not removed the ram or disturbed it, but I tried anyway since D-Bracket LED indicates a Memory error.)
Trying a different brand PC2700 DDR RAM stick.
Removing CMOS battery for 10 minutes.
Jumpering Clear CMOS a dozen times.  Leaving Clear CMOS jumper overnight (desperate!).
Disconnected all devices from mobo, all HDs, even the AGP video card.
Unfortunately, since the mobo fails so early, it never beeps or initializes the keyboard, so safe-mode INS or CTRL-HOME don't work... so I can't reload my old BIOS backup I carefully saved before I flashed the new one.
As you can see the BIOS chip is soldered directly to the mobo.... so am I 100% dead here?  Is there anything I can do?
I am 100% positive I did this BIOS update correctly and there is no reason it should have killed the mobo!

    Quote
UPDATE: Oh boy, it looks like I may have flashed the WRONG BIOS???!?!
Too possible, that's why i ask
    Quote
I'm not sure what my old bios version was, I couldn't find any way to tell?  The BIOS flash utility did not display my old version anywhere either.
Well you told that you have created BIOS backup before update the BIOS, ==> "so I can't reload my old BIOS backup I carefully saved before I flashed the new one."
Can you upload it somewhere to check it?
    Quote
I now see that I should have instead flashed BIOS v5.4 for KT4AV: http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=bios&maincat_no=1&prod_no=552
I am shocked at this mistake...  Can such a small discrepency (KT4V-L vs KT4AV) really kill my motherboard?  I saw the KT4V-L and thought it was right because my mobo has Onboard LAN...
    I'm doomed!

Sure yes, will be no wonder
