Lenovo HK maintenance play trick?

I've brougt Tablet A1000 and went to repair this rubbish machine 3 times within one month and tomorrow I gonna have my 4th repairing. They have fix tablet twice for system boot failed and finally repaired it by replacing motherboard...  then another problem appear- ear jack start working together with speaker!
Yesterday, I went to collect it back again and they told me that they have found another issue on 3G sub-board. God! They are so pround to told me about that..... Anyway, just it back home and plug back the 3G card.... the "funny" thing happen again, the card can't be mounted into the slot and fall out. Tomorrow, I have to go to HK Consumer Council to lodge my complaint.
During these few repairing, I've repeatedly request for direct talk to the in-charge of Center. But, no in-charge in office even during office hours. I believed that he should be hidden somewhere or work at home. The service level is totally NO not LOW.
Surrender to Lenovo.....You Won la. Nobody will care about you after you paid. I have to take legal action instead on playing with all these guys. Only FOOL you around

I've changed layout to

Fn + ? Previous Track
Fn + P Play/Pause

  • Does iTunes play tricks?

I've had a 2G ipod for years. I just upgraded to a 5G 80GB. I used my 2G not only to listen to songs from the device, but to listen via connecting to other computers and playing from the playlist which were kept on my 2G. I also used it to connect to my work computer, as a means of backing up the animations I created; using the ipod as a means of transporting my files to my home raid.
When I choose not to automatically transfer my songs, photos and videos, in iTunes, it wipes out the songs, video and photos in the ipod (including contacts and calendar info).
Is there a way to auto sync the 5G ipod on my home system, which will allow me to keep my music, video, and photos, and prevent the ipod from syncing to my work computer? And allow me to listen to my ipod's playlist on my work computer as well?
    Thanks!

In iTunes there should be an option to manually sync an iPod, use that. Also, when you plug in an iPOd to a different computer, it will be kind enough to ask if you want to sync it or not. Very useful yes?

  • Lenovos website + maintenance center says warranty valid, metafore says its not.

I've lost my proof of purchase, is there any way to use the information #here# as proof?
They claim the warranty information you gave them says the warranty is invalid.  I'm having an issue with my display having dark blotches at the bottom, which does not occur when using another monitor, and is clearly a panel issue.

  • Playing video from iTunes on a laptop onto a 16:9 LCD TV

Hi, I rented a movie from the Apple Store onto my Lenovo PC and played it back onto a 16:9 LCD TV. My laptop and the TV were connected using a male-male serial port connector. When I play the movie on the laptop in iTunes, it displays black bars above and below the movie on the laptop; and, since the entire display of the laptop is being shown on the LCD TV, the black bars show up on the LCD TV also. I am trying to figure out how I can get the movie which is playing in iTunes to take up the entire computer screen so that the LCD TV can also show the movie full screen.
Is there a way to do this? Does the AppleTV also have the same problem?

  • IMovie Project File Problem - Won't Play After HD Format

Hi everyone, I have a MacBook Pro (OSX 10.4.11) running iMovie 08 (7.1.4). A few months ago I created a slideshow in iMovie and it was saved in a folder on my laptop as an iMovie Project file (159MB). Whenever I wanted to show someone the slideshow, I just double-clicked the iMovie Project file and it opened automatically in iMovie and the slideshow played without any problems.
Earlier this week I had to format the HD of my MBP (I wanted to get rid of the Windows partition I had). Before I did this, I obviously backed-up all my files onto a portable HD and reinstalled them on my MBP. Today, when I attempted to open the iMovie Project file (again, by double-clicking on it in Finder) I ran into a problem: iMovie 08 opens, but the file will not play. It doesn't even appear anywhere in iMovie. Before, it would appear in iMovie and show all the individual frames, audio track, etc.
(Unsurprisingly) I also cannot open this iMovie Project file in any other program, such as Quicktime, etc...
Can anyone tell me how I can open this file in iMovie again and/or import it back into iMovie and watch/edit it there? It is quite important that I can open it again.
    Thank you very much, Scott

AM1958, you are a lifesaver!! Thank you very much -- moving the .rcproject file to user>/Movies/iMovie Projects/ fixed my problem and I can now play my slideshow movie. I really appreciate the assistance. One more (small) thing: it seems to me that the quality of the movie has been somewhat compromised, in that I recall the images looking sharper and clearer before. This could be my mind playing tricks on me, but I am just wondering if this is possible... Or am I imagining this?

  • Lenovo K3 Note - Rooted When Purchased

I have owned many Lenovo products which I have been very happy with, being satisfied with all their products I decided to purchase a K3 Note mobile phone. I was disappointed to find it was hacked when I purchased it and when I questioned the seller, he said it was because Lenovo don't have Google Play installed by default, so they had to hack it to have it installed, otherwise we would not be able to install any apps, etc. In addition I have spent hours trying to find a genuine Lenovo firmware that I can use to have a nice and clean installation, but found nothing on Lenovo sites, so I have some questions hoping someone from Lenovo can answer please:
    1) If this is a Lenovo Product and is being sold in Western countries, where is the (English) firmware and where do I get updates? btw the firmware currently installed does not allow for SW updates, no idea why.
    2) Why did Lenovo exclude Google play in the initial release of the firmware?
    3) Is this phone really a Lenovo product? the hardware is great but the software is very questionable I think.
I look forward to your responses.
    Kind Regards
Admin note; subjects edited to better reflect content

Was the phone officially launched in your country?
If no, then the shopkeeper must have imported the model from china and as i have heard, android phones do not have play store or any other google app...and hence phone has to be hacked/rooted to make the apps available. Therefore, no official english firmware and further updates.
I dont much about custom roms and all, but, you can ask someone for indian firmware as its official...although i am not sure about any updates thereafter too. ( Do so at your own risk, as like I said, I dont know much about installing roms.)
And if it was officially launched, then I dont know why you got a hacked version.
    Hope it helped

  • Yoga 13" Clementine Orange - Mini review

I got my Yoga 13, Orange, 8gb ram and 256gb SSD on Monday the 17th. I also ordered the slot case and the screen protector as well. In this post I’ll do a mini review of the unit that I got. I hope this will give people here some useful information.
I really really wanted to like this laptop. But sadly, after playing around with it all day (and night!) I returned the Yoga earlier today. There were some major issues that I encountered that was definitely a deal breaker and I feel are things that should not exist in a $1500 laptop.
Lets start with the good stuff first: The first impressions were great.
    Exterior
Exterior build quality was very nice. The shell felt very solid and the orange color looked awesome! I believe the shell is aluminum with a rubber-like coating applied on. So when you hold it, you get a very good grip and at no point where i felt the laptop was going to slip out of my hands. Power buttons and volume button (in both design and positions) mimicked those as seen on tablets. The position of these buttons make alot of sense when the Yoga is in tablet mode. Everything looked VERY sturdy and felt well built.
Upon opening the laptop, I was greeted with a very nice looking and interestingly textured palm rest area. The texture has an almost faux leather look to it but it definitely feels rubbery, smooth and a little cushion-like. Its is hard to explain but when I'm resting on it, it feels very nice to the skin and it certainly insulates any type of temperature changes from transferring your palms/wrists unlike some metal enclosures. Very interesting material choice for sure.
The keyboard area looked very nice. Typing on it was very comfortable and keys were responsive.
Trackpad was OK. I found my self accidentally right clicking and the pointer acceleration as a bit wonky. Not the worst trackpad I used but also not great.
    Usage
Battery life after the first full charge showed a little less than 6 hours. Machine was dead quite and everything was silky smooth loading apps and painting with my fingers. There was a surprising minimal amount of bloatware installed. Even with the Lenovo software, non of which was "in your face". First boot-up of the machine went through windows 8 account setup and subsequent boot up time was about 4-5 seconds. EXTREMELY fast.
Looking at the device manager, my 256gb ssd is sporting one made by Samsung. One interesting I found was the wireles/bluetooth module is made by realtek and is interfacing with the system via USB 2.0.
    Tablet Mode/Tent Mode/etc
This is the reason I bought this laptop. As a graphic artist, my plan was to use this as a sketchpad, photo editing and light animation use. As I mentioned, the touchscreen was very responsive and Windows 8 "Metro" felt right at home here. Even using the touchscreen with desktop apps was a lot of fun. I spent maybe an hour or two playing in paint before I remembered that I should install photoshop (LOL).
I found the Yoga's touch capabilities most satisfying and usable in tent mode and tablet mode. In regular laptop mode, touching the screen bounces and moves the screen which gets annoying. In stand mode, same thing.
Aside from painting with my fingers, I tested the touchscreen with a touch screen stylus i got on Amazon. It worked ok as i needed to put quit a bit of pressure in order for the screen to register the tip of the stylus where as using the same stylus on other touchscreens (ipad 2, nexus 7, nexus 4, droid x) did not require any force.
    Speed and performance
Everything felt snappy and ran all my programs great. It works and it works well. I did not run any benchmarks or anything as I was more concerned with testing my usage habits.
This laptop sounds wonderful, why the hell did i return it?!
After a couple of hours playing with it, that's when I started to notice some glaring problems.
    Lets go down the list:
    Screen Flicker issue
This was a surprise to me. After the first few hours of using the laptop. I notice the screen would flicker once in awhile. It seems to be random but I notice to be more apparent especially when I load up new programs and when I am quitting them. It is almost as if there is a loose connection or interference somewhere. At first I thought it was the automatic brightness playing tricks on me so I proceeded to turn it off. Nope, the flickering was still there. This is a real deal breaker (duh).
    High pitch whine
Yes, there is a high pitch whine and buzzing sound that emanates from the laptop (coil whine). I couldn't pin point the exact location but it seems to come from around the F3 key area. I don't have an overly quiet room. When I heard this whine, I was actually playing some music in the background. The sound was unbearable!
    Fan noise, rattling noise.
The sound of the air movement coming from the laptop, I don't mind and I barely notice it. But the there is a rattling sound coming from the fan itself. I build my own PCs and I've owned some cheap fans before where it makes the same noise. The fan in the Yoga is not a good quality fan. The fan also stays on most of the time. It is not excessively loud but it seems it needs to be on much more than it needs to be. Either that, it seems like it can run at a lower RPM.
    The Loose Keyboard
Yes you read that right. The keyboard is loose. This is very apparent when you press any keys in the F7 to F12 keys area (or any other keys around those). When you press any of those keys, you will FEEL and SEE that the whole area of the keyboard will sink in. I'm not exaggerating.
This should not happen in any laptop at any price range, and this one costs $1500 USD. This is unacceptable. I don't think this is even a QC issue, it is a design issue. As seen in other threads in this forum and other forums, the keyboard is attached on there with double sided tape. Wha??
    Palm rest area flex
As I mention prior, the texture feels great and feels soft almost cushion like. Well it turns out, the cushion like feel is the result of that area flexing in. No joke. Pressing on the palm rest area with my fingers reminds me of pressing on the surface of a water bottle. You'll feel this even more when in tablet mode. It feels plain fragile.
    Screen Protector
It Sucks. Don't know how to put it another way. It is the worst screen protector you can get. Yea you can see through it but that it is. The material gives the surface a lot of traction so you'll find your fingers getting stuck on it while swiping the screen. I wish Lenovo would make the glass (or at lease offer a screen protector) similar to cellphone / tablets screens where they put a oleophobic coating so your fingers glide on the surface. So yea, save the money and forget about the Lenovo screen protector.
    Slot Case
Its ugly, it feels cheap and it looks cheap. The texture of the case is just..I don't even know what it is. It is just SOOOOOO ugly. The material of the case will probably last maybe 6 months use. Its not even practical as 1.5" of the laptop sticks out at the opening. What?? Did i mention it is crazy ugly?
    Overall
Great concept, great idea. Execution, not so good. Build quality not consistent, major design issues that keeps this from becoming a good laptop. The price tag (i paid $1500) makes this even more so.
Returning the laptop. Lenovo customer support
I had a really good experience. The post-sales rep from somewhere in India was courteous and quick. After I explained  why I wanted to return the laptop, my return was processed immediately and I was told I would be getting a full refund. My shipping labels was emailed to me very quickly and total time spent on the phone  was about 15 min.
    Closing thoughts
It might seem I might have gotten a bum unit but from looking at the other threads in this forum and other forums, It seems other people are having some similar problems as me. I didn't want to exchange for a new unit (and waiting even longer) and experience these issues again. I see these are design issues, not QC issues.
The Yoga has a HUGE potential to be an amazing ultrabook/laptop (booktablet??). Huge potential. Maybe the Yoga 2 will get that chance.
I’m traveling in a week so I went ahead and reordered the Asus UX32VD. (lol should of kept my first UX32VD)

Well, that's a mighty polite way of saying to just wait for the worst, and I had been editing my post's praise softer as you replied. Today my keyboard fold works, but a worse problem of the screen blacking out or turning to colorful snow occurs, with only a reboot clearing it. Well, I will see if it is transient and comment on...
    EDITED INSERT
yoga ie lost all my paragraph breaks, and even in android i cannot restore them below this point for some reason. so pardon the runon until i tame this...
I ordered the yoga 13max because my 10 inch android tablets were getting bogged down making the 2d charts I need, as well as the screen being a little small. My 17 inch MacBook pro is too ungainly, hot, and noisy for an easychair with no desk. The yoga really straddles the gap between them well, as mainly a powerful tablet and an adequate sometime laptop for type intensive work or transferring media from usb disk drives to media players. I have always hated windows (and IOS for that matter) but win8 seems headed in the right direction. IE is not yet up to the touchable slickness of android equivilents (do I really have to bring up the keyboard and put it away by explicit steps rather than implicit touches?) but probably it will improve and other touch ready browsers will appear. I was very thankful for no metallic fan noise as reported, and it is anyway near silent in tablet mode due to the geometry. In portrait mode it is great for reading pdf, but kind of hard to grasp the sides. The wide side is a hot air vent and the other side has the (needlessly) clickity trackpad. But I think one end of the air vent is cool, so you can 180 rotate portrait for a better experience. Due to asymmetries, you have 4 useful rotations rather than 2. Well, I will quit in case the screen wants to drop out, but will add this. Someone posted a website to compare the i7 vs i5turbo, and with a great deal of searching in the buried data I gathered the i7 gave almost 30% better speed which I wanted along with the bigger ram. Win8 seems to be needlessly awkward for touch mode, but I assume it will improve. Oh, I forgot the last thing because I'm nervous about the screen which is staying ok for some reason...

  • G780 ... warranty shuffle ?

    Hi
some days ago I purchased a cheap G780 (mod 2182 with B950). When I unpacked it I found the usual warranty statement (p/n: 147500988), but also a single note/flyer (p/n: 148501577) that told me, that my unit is covered by 24 month pickup&return instead of the usual 12 month bring-in warranty - IF I bought my unit in Germany (which I did) and purchased from a Licensed Distributor (which I did). It finally stated:
"To determine if your comuter is eligible, visit Lenovo's customer support at http://consumersupport.lenovo.com"
OK. I checked my warranty status and it said Oct-13. OK, no prob I thought: Thats the usual databse default "productiondate+15months". So I contacted support to ask for the extended warranty that was offered. They tld me to send the invoice and the "flyer". So I did. Some time no answer, so I also contacted the EMEA support. So far the only "action" I got from them was a "I am working on your case" and then nothing more. Meanwhile the german support answered and told me that my unit is NOT covered by the 24 month extended warranty. In short, because the website doesn't tell it.
    ARGL!
BTW: Searching through the web I found several "hints" about this flyer which seems to be in several packages of the G-series (at least in Germany).
    The question arises:
1.: Are the people producing Lenovo Notebooks simply stupid and put this flyer into every package they get their hands on?
    or
2.: Does Lenovo simply not want to stand by its word and rather likes to play tricks on customers?
I really don't care if the unit is 12 or 24 month. I wanted a cheapo and the dealer listed the unit with 12 month. I even puchased a Lenovo Care package for warranty extension (12 -> 24 bring-in). But I am absolutely unwilling to activate it (will be returned to dealer unopened), because I really hate if I get the feeling that somebody is playing tricks on me.
Does anybody already have experience with this kind of warranty-trouble? Is it limited to Germany or can the "flyer" be found in other products for the EU-market?

    picoflop,
Thanks for raising this question.  I'm not aware of the flyer - certainly interesting that it has a part number and we can look into this internally to see what is known.   It would also help if you could scan a copy of the flyer to pdf or take a picture we could have a look.

  • Cannot connect desktop (wired) & laptop (wireless)

I've been at this for days, scoured much info and many threads, and tried many things; so I could go on and on for days about all I've found and tried.  I'll try to be concise, but I also want to be thorough.  Every other forum I’ve posted in has asked the same questions, so I’m just going to try to get it all out there right off the bat.  I apologize if I come off as curt.  I’m usually good for some laughs, but I’ve been at this for way too long and am feeling pretty deflated.
GOAL:  Achieve connectivity between my desktop and my new T520 - be able to swap files without fumbling thumb drives or emailing myself.
    SYSTEM SPECS:
       Desktop
self built: AMD Phenom II X4 3.4GHz
    Mobo: Gibabyte GA-890GPA-UD3H
    network adapter:  Realtek RTL8168D/8111D
    running Windows 7 Professional
       Laptop
    Lenovo T520
network adapter:  Intel Centrino Advanced N 6205
    running Windows 7 Home Premium
       Router
    Belking F5D8231-4  version 3000
    SUMMARY OF EFFORTS THUS FAR:
    Firewalls:  Windows & router disabled
    Anti-virus:  (AVG) disabled, then uninstalled
    Network adaptor drivers: updated
    Router firmware: updated
Router has been restored to factory settings
Power cycles performed multiple times at various points
Tried static ip addresses (presently set to dynamic) - shared ip addresses not the cause
Sharing options have been enabled both in general network settings and specific folders
Pinging results in either "Request timed out."  or  "Destination host unreachable."
My network is designated a "Home network"
Neither machine is connected to multiple networks
Both machines are assigned to same Workgroup: tried changing from generic "WORKGROUP" to custom name to isolate my machines from rommie's
Relevant services I've been told to check and confirmed started:
                             - DHCP Client
                             - Computer Browser
                             - Network Location Awareness
                             - Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
                             - Server
                             - TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper
                             - Workstation
                             - Peer Networking Grouping
                             - PNRP Machine Name Publication Service
Under Local Area Network Status I've noticed that IPv4 shows connectivity to internet, but IPv6 says "No Internet Access" - disabling IPv6 has no effect
When I create a Windows Homegroup on one machine, an invite to join is never extended to the other.
I installed TeamViewer as alternative to Homegroup.  After setup, the program claims to have a working connection, but any attempt to access the other gives an error.
Now, the name of my laptop will sometimes appear under Explorer>>Network, but clicking on it gives an error message (can't think what it says & the laptop isn't visible right now); while my laptop has never shown my desktop.  However, if I hardline my laptop to the router, suddenly the two are best friends - connecting, accessing folders, swapping files, trading recipes, sharing steamy cups of Maxwellhouse International Cafe.
Does anybody have any insights into this situation?  Any suggestions would be appreciated.  I’ve wondered if perhaps there was some pre-installed Lenovo software that interferes with networks the way firewalls or anti-virus programs can?  I've tried calling both Belkin and Lenovo tech support - played their little choose your own adventure games.  Belkin's final word is that its a software issue.  I'm at a complete loss.
I'm always asked for ipconfig and ping results at some point, so I'll go ahead and post them below.  I've also found some errors in Administrative Events on both machines that may provide clues:
Dhcp-Client (both)   -   The IP address lease 192.168.2.2 for the Network Card with network address 0x6CF049E337F0 has been denied by the DHCP server 192.168.2.1 (The DHCP Server sent a DHCPNACK message).
bowser (desktop)   -   The master browser has received a server announcement from the computer GLADOS that believes that it is the master browser for the domain on transport NetBT_Tcpip_{4F23028C-E9A3-47B6-94A5-025192E2DBE0}. The master browser is stopping or an election is being forced.
BROWSER (laptop)   -   The browser service has failed to retrieve the backup list too many times on transport ....  The backup browser is stopping
I don't really know much about Windows services and events, but they sound like they could be related, and they're the only lead I have to work right now.

Just throwing this out there: I had a cash register which bafflingly refused to talk to other systems on the network, except for just a few minutes after it booted. The problem was cured by unchecking "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" in the Power Management tab of the Realtek ethernet card Device Manager Properties.

  • The length of the recording and exporting truncated

    Hi there.
It's my first venture into GarageBand. I have just a few questions.
First, how can I tell the length of my recording without having to listen to the entire session? Dragging the indicator bar in the window to move it along takes a very long time, is there a quicker way to do this?
Second, I have been exporting my files to iTunes to burn CD's. I am seeing that the file get's shortened in the process. It's not just a small clip, but rather edits out over 15 minutes on one file. Any thoughts? I called Apple and they knew nothing.

    To determine the length:
    - Switch the meter that shows bars and beats to minutes and seconds (by clicking on the clock icon).
    - Scroll to the end of the song.
    - Click into the timeline's ruler, and the cursor will be taken there, the meter showing the minutes and seconds.
As for the export: Do you see the little purple triangle in the timeline, pointing to the left? That's your End of Song marker. Does it sit at the right position? If not, move it there and try exporting again. And since this little ******* is playing tricks sometimes, a more exact way of exporting is using the circle function and setting the circle section exactly from the beginning to the end of what you want to export.
Oh, and by the way: How long is your recording? If it exceeds 999 bars, then GB will only export until bar 999, although your whole recording is still there.
Come back and tell us what you found out!

  • On Screen Keyboard for Windows 8

Is there a way to keep the onscreen keyboard from opening automatically? When I am on my tablet with an external keyboard and am using Word 2013, every time I scroll through or click on the document, the on screen keyboard comes up. It was easy to disable
in Windows 7, but I cannot figure out how to disable it in Windows 8.
    Thanks!

That works, if you consider a manual solution:
    1) Starting and stoping the Win8 virtual keyboard, and only the keyboard:
I put two commands into two batch-files:
    "net start TabletInputService"
    "net stop TabletInputService"
    2) Creating Shortcuts
I created two shortcuts and attached them to the taskbar
    3) Playing tricks on the UAC
Now you are stuck with the UAC. You can create an elevated task in the task scheduler and call that, but its complicated. I personally used a software to create an "elevated shortcut" in step two. There are some out there, e.g. "Elevated Shortcut".
But of course you would have to trust such a program. :-( I do. ;-|
This is not cool, but it works.
Problably you can check the  service's state and create a batch file toggling it. So there would be only on shortcut left. I did not try that, instead i wrapped that in a little C#-Programm.
Well, might be for my vaio duo 11, Sony itself should have provided such a program, because it is their keyboard. Microsoft did so for theirs' on the surface, as I mentioned above. Actually I don't know if there is a standard API to check if an
perferred keyboard is in typing position.

  • Getting my MiniMax working with my Airport Extreme

I bought a 500GB MiniMax and an Airport Extreme (new style 802.11n) at the weekend. I've got the Airport Extreme working fine and am trying to use the MiniMax as a drive attached to the Airport Extreme via USB2.0. I want to attach to the MiniMax wirelessly via the Airport.
Unfortunately I can't see the MiniMax hard drive when it is attached in this fashion.
If I attach the MiniMax to my MacBook Pro running OSX 10.4.8 using USB2.0 then I can see it fine and it mounts OK. Also, if I attach a USB memory stick to the Airport Extreme then my MacBook Pro can also see and use it.
Bizarrely, if I have the USB memory stick attached to the MiniMax and the MiniMax connected over USB2.0 to the Airport Extreme then my MacBook Pro can see and use the memory stick wirelessly but I still cannot locate the MiniMax as a hard drive.
Firstly, I approached Iomega with the problem, to which their initial response was "not our problem, we can't help you". Hmmm.
Then I went to Apple who were most helpful, we re-formatted the drives and checked everything. The Apple support guy then sends me a document (below) discussing the requirements to attach a hard drive to the Airport Extreme, he thinks the problem may be that the MiniMax doesn't have a block size of 512 bytes (which, apparently, is a pre-requisite for it to function). I can't find any reference to "block size" in any of the MiniMax's documentation ... does anybody know the block size for this device?
I'm guessing that the MiniMax does have a 512 byte block size as I've seen reports from other users on here stating that they've got theirs working (but then, of course, they could be using the older style Airport Extreme instead of the new 802.11n version).
    Anybody got any ideas?
    Thanks!
    Damian
AirPort Extreme (802.11n): USB storage device supported formats and protocols
You can connect USB-based storage devices to an AirPort Extreme (802.11n). Learn which formats and protocols are supported.
The AirPort Extreme (802.11n) supports USB storage devices that have a block size of 512 bytes, and are formatted as Mac OS Extended (HFS-plus), FAT16, or FAT32. Not all USB storage devices use a block size of 512 bytes.
The AirPort Extreme (802.11n) shares storage devices based on the format used to initialize the storage device. For example, if HFS-plus formatting was used, AFP and SMB/CIFS protocols are used to share the device on the network. If FAT16 or FAT32 was used, SMB/CIFS protocols are used.
The AirPort Extreme (802.11n) works with disks that have a single partition and are not RAID volumes (no more than one volume per physical disk).
Note: Use AirPort Disk Utility to discover and mount AirPort Extreme-based volumes over the network.
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Damian,
just a (not very helpful) note to say that I am having exactly the same trouble, with exactly the same kit which looks very nice stacked together but doesn't actually work. Bizarrely I have a different USB only hard drive plugged into the USB ports on the back of the Minimax which the AE sees but it still doesn't see the Minimax.
I am sure it worked briefly once but I had to change some settings on the AE and it then vanished never to return - I am now thinking that my mind was playing tricks on me and that that never happened.
I have rebooted kit in every conceivable order but still no luck, the only other observation I would make is that when I plug the Minimax and the other USB only drive into my iMac that the USB only drive mounts straight away whilst the Minimax takes quite a while to mount.... I wonder if the AE gets bored waiting for the Minimax to come to life - who knows its all black magic to me

  • Blue Screen Errors on HP's And Some Dells

Microsoft recently released an official update that seems to cause some HP's to "bluescreen" on startup. The Dell update seems to be for the webcam
There's a VERY simple fix for this.
    HP's
Restart your computer(press and hold the power button for 5-10 seconds if you need to turn if off from the bluescreen)
While it is turning on tap the F8 key once a second until a text menu comes up
Arrow key down to Safe Mode with networking and press Enter
Windows will load, a bunch of files will scroll past, this is normal
After Windows loads, click Start > Accessories > System Restore
When the window pops up(it will take a few minutes sometimes); select "Different date" and choose the latest one that says Windows Update by it and click "next", and then confirm by clicking yes.
Your computer will then restart and undo the Windows update that caused the bluescreen.
If you're on an HP, that's all you have to do, Dells require a bit more work.
    Dells
(Note, you will need internet access on the computer affected, or your restore disc labeled Drivers/Applications or this will not work)
Restart your computer(press and hold the power button for 5-10 seconds if you need to turn if off from the bluescreen)
While it is turning on tap the F8 key once a second until a text menu comes up
Arrow key down to Safe Mode  with networking and press Enter
Windows will load, a bunch of files will scroll past, this is normal
Go to your Control Panel and select "System" and then click on the Hardware tab.
    Select Device Manager
In the list that comes up, click on Image, or Imaging Devices
Under that you should see something similar to "Integrated Webcam", right click and select "Uninstall"
Check the box that says Uninstall the software for this device and click OK
After it has finished, restart your computer normally.
Insert the Driver/Apps disc and go into the Dell Resource CD and find your webcam driver/install it
    -or-
Go to http://dell.com and enter your Dell Service Tag(usually on the bottom/back of your computer) and make your way to the Drivers page for your model and download/install the webcam software
This will take about 5-30 minutes depending on your computer.
Note : This plays tricks on your anti virus programs and they may say your "definitions" are corrupt/out of date. This is also a simple fix, all you have do is run your AV programs update option and everything should be fixed.
Double note : This may or may not fix your problem if you have other issues. If you have any trouble, post here and I'll do my best to help. If you purchased your HP from Best Buy, and are within your warranty/service plan, most stores(as far as I know) are offering to fix this for free as it was not caused by the user.
    Anything else, please ask
