  • Idea Centre Q190 memory upgrade

I have the 57312246 configuration (celerorn 887 and 4 G ram)..  Now since I spend most of time on this wonderful little computer in Ubuntu Linux 4 GIG RAM is plenty.  However, at some point I may want to go ahead and get
a single 8 GIG module (from Crucial.com) and upgrade the memory.  I know based on several reviews that the single memory slot is just under the top cover.  In the past with my previous desktops it was very plain and easy as to how to open the case to add hardware.  But, with the Q190 there are no obvious screws.  The Q190 user guide says nothing about how to upgrade the memory.
So, how do you remove the top cover so you can upgrade the memory?
    Thank you in advance.

  • Idea Centre K only starts up 50% of the time; I am confused.

    Hello:
I have a new Lenovo Idea Centre K desktop with 64bits and Windows Vista. Unfortunately, the computer only makes it past the "Lenovo" booting screen about half the time. The computer freezes on this screen, I must hold down the power button, then start again, where it will always start the next time. This freezing occurs before the beep part with the blinking cursor. If it makes it past the Lenovo screen, there is always only one beep. Usually, the times it doesn't start are after 12 or more hours when the computer is turned off. After I shut it down and try again, it will start every time and work fine thereafter. I checked that it is properly set to 115V for my regional power needs. This issue is annoying because I must watch the computer power up rather than push the button and let it power while I do other activities. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks:
    Dan

    All,
We can look into the issue generically and see if there are any thoughts on things to try.   To make more progress, it would be helpful to know which model K series desktop you have, and a bit about your configuration, and whether this pattern is consistent.
Does it always fail to boot all the way through on first power up, and then always successfully go through on the retry?   What, if anything has been added or externally connected to the system via USB or other ports?

  • Lenovo G40 ~ 70 ram upgrade problem

I bought a lenovo G40 ~ 70 laptop and I wanted to upgrade my ram.It contains 4gb ram and I wanted to upgrade it to 8gb .What type of ram card should I buy and after the upgrade will my computer have problems? thank you.

    Hi Ayato,
    Welcome to the Forums
As per the query we understood that you are looking for RAM upgrade for your Lenovo G40-70 laptop.
As per the specification of this model , the maximum memory supported by this model is upto 16GB DDR3L 1600Mhz.Hence I would suggest you to look into DDR3L RAM as the RAM slots in the laptop will only support the same. And "L" in DDR3L refers to low voltage.
Click here for the model specification.
Hope this helps. Do post back if the issue persists.
    Best regards,

  • Can I plug a desk top computer into my Idea Centre A310, and if so how?

I have an Idea Centre which has a great screen, but the centre is running so slowly despite my local pc fixer doing his best to clean it up and using an external HD for most files including photos. So I was wonder if I bought a desk top pc only with say 6-8gb RAM and 1TB HD, could I connect this to the centre just to use the monitor only and if so how? I would get my pc fixer guy to transfer all the info I required off the centre to the desk top pc.

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !
I'm not an owner of your model and I could be wrong, but....... Your A310 does have an HDMI IN port which you should be able to use to receive the video signal from another computer that has an HDMI OUT port.  The problem I see is the HDMI IN port on the A310 wouldn't be a direct signal to the display.  The signal would need to be processed by the A310 before it is displayed on the screen and if you are not happy with the A310 performance I suspect it would effect the display from the second computer as well.
Have you ever had your A310 checked for viruses ?  Or was the performance not to your liking since it was new ?

  • Kernel Power error after Win 7 and RAM upgrade

    Hello,
I posted earlier on the subject of win7 and ram upgrades.  I did both and it seemed to go fine.  I did the ram first ... replaced a 667Mhz 1gb with a 800Mhz 2gb.  A couple of days later the computer just shut itself down and restarted.  Since then it has done it another 5 times, seemingly at random.  Yesterday I decided to spend some time looking into it and found the 'event log'.  All the shutdowns are recorded as 'critical'.  A search on the web/here showed other occurences of the fault associated with drivers as much as anything.
After I did the win update I did update almost every driver with ones from this site.
Other than the shutdowns the only issues I have which are of very mild concern are the length of time the fingerprint reader takes to be present and that occasionally the cursor is unavailable for about a minute after logging on. When you try and control it it jumps about anywhere but where you want it to go.   I rolled back the alps driver and that seems to have sorted the cursor issue.
So, details of the shutdown from the event log are as follows.
    Log Name:      System
    Source:        Microsoft-Windows-Kernel-Power
    Date:          16/01/2011 16:21:31
    Event ID:      41
    Task Category: (63)

    Computer:      (removed by me)
    Description:
The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly."
There's more (I've shown it all below) but it's not that important.  When I looked into it I found details of the problem on the microsoft knowledge base.  Its described here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2028504.
I believe I fit into scenario 3 for cause and resolution.
So, it seems that win7 and mixed speed ram may be a problem on some computers ... probably only a tiny number, but it looks like the HP3507 is one of them.  I did see somewhere that I could down speed from 667 to 266 which might help with memory compatability but I can't see anywhere on the the insydeH20 bios where to do it.  BIOS is version F18 .... upgraded from F15 as part of the Win7/RAM ugrade.
Before I swap back to the 'old' memory I'll see if anybody here can come up with any ideas.  It may be that I have to sell off the expensive 2gb memory (ddr2 800mhz 200 pin) for £39.99 from maplin at a bargain price and get 2gb of 667Mhz from somewhere.
The full 'detail' regarding the fault is below.
    Bye for now.

    Hi DWeiland and Schwede,
Thanks for your replies. Yes I did the runtime engine registry change and also mass compiled the LV7.1 folder and my sourcecode. I still see the problem as I have set the LV adapter as Lv 7.1.1 runtime engine. Now I have changed it to LV7.1 development system. With this setting, it is not giving any error. Thus I don’t see any problem now. The older version of the code had the adapter as the runtime engine for some reason, now I have changed the setting to the development system. I hope that it shouldn’t be a problem.
    Thanks again!
    Thank you,

  • Early 2008 MacBook Pro RAM upgrade limited to 3GB??

My brother in law has an early 2008 MBP, 2.4GHz, I'm pretty much sure we are talking about the one described in this Apple tech specs:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP4
Now, it says that it supports up to 4GB of 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM. He bought 2x2GB Kingston memory modules , but the shop sold him the 800Mhz ones. Still they do fit and if only one is present together with the old 1GB 667MHz one it works fine reporting a total of 3GB. With the 2x2GB together the MBP doesn't even start.
My understanding was that such a MBP could support up to 8GB of RAM with the new 4GB memory modules (well probably with SL at 64 bits, which works). Personally I have an early 2007 MacBook and I know there is a 3GB limit due to the GMA 950 (video chip) reserving higher addresses.
Is there a similar situation for the MBP? I thought the memory speed being higher shouldn't matter (and it works indeed with one 800MHz module). Or is that MBP really limited to 3GB maximum? Any idea?
    Message was edited by: Michelasso

yes, he will bring everything here today. I think he didn't buy the KTA MB800 anyway (made for Apple by kingston). Just generic. They are too cheap. But I have to check. Reading around I've found out that only the Penryn MBP should have the problem with faster RAM. Here is a good guide:
    http://forums.macnn.com/69/mac-notebooks/358184/a-guide-to-macbook-ram-upgrades/
Well, he's still on time to give the RAM back and get the refund. Thanks for your help anyway.

  • 2011 iMac CPU,GPU,Ram upgrade Plans

    Hello all:
The following is to assist those who wish or plan to upgrade:
I'll be upgrading my iMac's CPU, Graphics Card & RAM this coming week.
    current system:
    2011 iMac 2.7ghz (27")
    Radeon HD 6770M (512mb)
    16gb RAM
    240gb SSD (system)
    1tb hdd (data)
    upgrading to:
    Core i7-2700k (3.5ghz)
    Radeon HD 6970M (2gb)
    32gb RAM
I ordered the graphics card from www.dvwarehouse.com, so should have necessary firmware:
    1 x      Video Card AMD Radeon HD 6970M 2GB for iMac 27" Mid 2011 661-5969.
CPU & RAM upgrade: I'm fairly certain this should go smoothly and work fine afterward, that is if I take the precaution and time needed during the process.
I will report back later in the week on my results, I'll post my before & after system info screenshot also.  Wish me luck
    Kenny

The culture is changing with the ability to upgrade the newer machines.  I've noticed a lot of people on this forum more closed to the idea of upgrading, most are unaware it can even be done, which is sad in my opinion.  Maybe because this is the official support forum.  But the other mac sites are like what I'm used to in the past working with pcs:
    check out these:
    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1323028
    http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/imac/imac-aluminum-faq/imac-intel-aluminum -processor-upgrade-instructions.html
    http://www.hardmac.com/articles/335/page1
    the list goes on.
etresoft, we know that mac computers are the best...period.  Hardware upgrades are also better for some of the same reasons that make apple computers better;  not as customizable -- only certain upgrade paths are possible.  Upgrade process more difficult because of mac's intricate design.  But once you do the upgrade right, it just works beautifully.  And you extend the life of you machine another two years at less than half the cost of getting a new mac.
Open you mind brother.  Apple has done everything right, this is just another part of their strategy and I think it's great.

  • Photoshop not registering my RAM upgrade.

Hi there.  I recently doubled my RAM to 4GB but PhSp performance preference says 1634MBs are available. Is Photoshop not registering the RAM upgrade; is there a setting I can update?
My PC operating system registers the RAM upgrade under control panel and I've set the boot drive virtula memory to 500-1500MB.
    Any ideas out there?

I see you tagged PS CS 5.5 .  Are you trying to use the 64-bit version?   If you only have 4GB on your machine then it is possible that your computer is reserving some of its memory for the operating system and PS puts a cap on how much it uses so as not to encumber your machine.  At least that's my guess.  I'm not as technically savvy on memory with PS as some others on this forum.  But I do know that the 32-bit version of PS will NOT see above 4GB of RAM so try the 64-bit edition if you have a 64-bit OS.

  • Idea centre B series turns itsself off.

    Hello All,
I was wondering if anyone can help?  I have an idea centre B520 and when I turn it on it begins to startup but then turns itself off again within a few seconds.
If I turn it on again everything works but very slowly and I now have a long start up time ( twice what it was before this problem)
I wondered if there is anyone who knows why this is happening and how to solve it?
    Many thanks,

    Hi Chris,
Thanks for posting and welcome to the Lenovo Community,
I’d like to ask you if you can see that the machine turns off while working on the machine or it would happen only during the booting.
And please share with us if you’ve installed a new software recently that after that you can see that this problem happen with you.

  • U310 RAM Upgradable? Voided Warranty?

    Hi --
I am a tentative Lenovo buyer and was am set on getting the U310 Ultrabook.  I do notice though that it only has 4 GB of RAM.  I would ideally like to upgrade this upon getting the laptop.  Is this possible?  I have researched it and cannot find any answers for this particular model.  I just do not want to buy the laptop and find out that it does not have an extra slot to upgrade the RAM so I am stuck with 4 gig.  If this is the case, then I may just spring the extra $100 or so and get the U410 Ultrabook.
Secondly, will doing anything like this by myself void the warranty?  I certainly would not like that to happen.
Let me know and if anyone has any advice on the U series; I'm hoping to buy today before this sale is over.
    Thanks!

I just upgraded and wanted to share some notes.  The quick answers are:
     - Yes, opening the case voids the warranty (and needs to be done carefully)
     - Yes, the machine can run 8GB of RAM
     - and (bonus) you can use the mSATA SSD drive as a regular SSD drive--and upgrade it as well
The only potential hiccup is that you may need to flash BIOS version 65CN21WW for the RAM upgrade to work.  Initially my machine would not boot or POST with the 8GB stick.  After flashing this version things went smoothly (aside from needing to re-apply BIOS settings to get Windows 8 to boot again).
    Here's more details:
     - my machine is the non-touch screen i3 based system
     - I used the Crucial memory advisor to locate the 8GB stick of RAM and a 240GB mSATA SSD
     - There are useful YouTube videos showing how to remove the back panel.  Basically you pry off the rubber feet, unscrew the 4 screws you'll find, then (VERY) carefully work your way around the space between the back panel and the silver plastic
    For my dual-boot setup:
     - Fully shutdown Windows (being sure not to use Intel Rapid Start--you want it to be a complete shutdown)
     - In the BIOS disable IRST
     - Switch the drives to AHCI mode in the BIOS (you'll need to reload Windows after doing this)
From there I installed Windows 8.1 to a 250GB partition on the 500GB spindle drive.  Ubuntu GNOME 13.10 went on the entire SSD, with the other 250GB of the spindle drive available for slower-speed storage.  With my increased storage I'll be considering if both OS's should reside on the SSD for performance, with extra storage on the larger drive.

Will RAM upgrade on Macbook Air result in a bottleneck?
Hi I am planning to buy a Macbook Air with the base configuration, but was giving the RAM some thought. I was thinking of upgrading it from 4 GB 1600 MHz LPDDR3 SDRAM to 8 GB. With the student discount the upgrade will cost me an additional $90. I will be going to uni for life sci and will be be using it for work assignments, music, and maybe some small-time gaming. I currently don't really game much but maybe sometime in the future I may decide to play games such as LoL or Warcraft maybe?  What I was wondering was that is it actually necessary to upgrade the RAM to be able to play these types of games without lag? I am fine with a little bit of low fps, as long as it isn't to noticable and stil fairly smooth. Maybe with like safari with music and a word processor and the game open, would the MBA be able to handle it effectively? Also, would the RAM upgrade be ineffective because of a "bottleneck" where the other specs limit the effectiveness of the increase in RAM?  The rest of the specs are: 1.4 GHz dual-core Intel i5, Turbo Boost upto 2.7 GHz Intel HD Graphics 5000 128 GB PCle-based flash storage  So overall, is it worth it? Will it make gaming significantly better, and more importantly, will 4 GB just be enough too?  Thank you very much for reading that very long question! All answers will be appreciated!

Did you get a reply on that site?
    Are you comparing 11-inch/13-inch MacBook/Air to 13"-15" MB/Pro?
A better idea would be to get the MacBook/Pro, since it has a better
processor and a higher RAM spec capacity, when or if upgraded.
More RAM will not be a bottleneck; a slow CPU processor & too much
demand could. Including video demand, and gaming is unlikely, too.
    Check the specs at the Apple Store to compare MB/Pro w/ MB/Air;
even the basic MacBook Pro 13-inch without Retina has a fair CPU
and OK specs for most things; and you may be able to still upgrade
the RAM in that basic model (also has optical drive built-in) yourself.
See everymac.com and mactracker.ca for sources of specifications.
    Good luck & happy computing!
