Lenovo Ideacentre B540p Wifi 802.11b/g/n Able to Detect 5Ghz?

I am currently using asus router RT-N56U (Dual band - 2.4Ghz & 5Ghz) to share a 200mbps fibre boardband.
However, Lenovo B540p wireless network connection is unable to detect the router's 5Ghz network, only able to detect 2.4Ghz. I thought 802.11n is supposed to detect both 2.4Ghz & 5Ghz?

hi  wenlianglo,
Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
The Wifi cards provided on this model onlys supports single band up to 802.11b/g/n 2.4ghz
It will not be able to detect the 5ghz band network.
It is somewhat similar to this brand and model that max out at 2.4ghz
http://www.intel.com/content/dam/www/public/us/en/documents/product-briefs/wireless-n-7260-bluetooth...
The 5ghz version of that is a Wireless AC 7260 that operates at 2.4 and 5ghz.

  • Internet sharing wifi 802.11b/g

Hi. I don't know if this is possible or maybe I'm looking at it at the wrong way. I am trying to share internet from my MBP via Wifi. But the other non mac laptops can't connect to it. They can see the wifi connection, but they can't connect to it.
I'm thinking that my MBP is broadcasting in 802.11n while the other laptops only have 802.11b/g. If this is the case, can i make my MBP broadcast in 802.11b/g?
If this isn't the case, what can I do to give them internet?
My ipod touch does get internet from this broadcast though.
    Thanks in advance.

You can definitely share wireless from your laptop by setting up what's known as an 'ad hoc network'. Usually this means that the IPs issued are in the 169.254.x.y range, which is otherwise better known as APIPA and when not being used as an ad hoc network range indicates that there's a problem with the DHCP server.
You can also turn on DHCP yourself and set up a valid private range, usually in the 192.168.x.y range.
Your laptop will work with 802.11n, g, b, and a systems.
You will need to turn on Internet Sharing, select the relevant ports, and turn off the relevant firewall entries. Other devices will need to pick up the signal (which will not be strong) and will need to use the correct network.

    Hello
    i just looking for Windows 7 a Wifi-Driver for LenovoCentre A740!
The original driver from the Lenovo-Website wont work!
    Pleas Help!

    Hi Alex,

  • Qualcomm atheros ar9485 802.11b/g/n wifi adapter

Hello, I do not appear on the computer wifi 5
    Is qualcomm atheros ar9485 802.11b / g / n wifi adapter also supports wifi network 5?

Hi, Do you mean 5GHz ? No "qualcomm atheros ar9485 802.11b/g/n " does not support 5GHz, you have to live with this. Many new devices still use 2.4GHz and I think this make take few more years. Regards.

  • ¿Tengo wifi 802.11n o 802.11b?

    Gracias

I think I found my answer here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4199
Apple is still beyond this tech!
Routers that support 802.11n should be configured for 802.11a/n mode for maximum speed and compatibility. Routers that only support 802.11a can be left in 802.11a mode. Different Wi-Fi routers support different radio modes, so the exact setting will vary depending on the Wi-Fi router in use. In general, enable support for all modes. Devices will then automatically select the fastest commonly supported mode to communicate. Note that choosing a subset of the available modes will prevent older devices from connecting (for example, 802.11a devices will be unable to connect to a Wi-Fi router in 802.11n-only mode). In addition, choosing a subset of the available modes may cause interference with nearby legacy networks, and may cause nearby legacy devices to interfere with your network.

  • Restrict wifi to 802.11b on T400 with windows 7?

Hi Folks, I need to restrict connection of my intel 5300 to 802.11b at work (g is flaky for some reason). On XP, access connections would let me restrict my mode to 802.11b. In my new Windows 7 installation, however, I can't figure out how to make that happen. Is there any way to restrict my wifi to 802.11b in Windows 7? Thanks, a T400, 2764-CTO Intel 5300 AGN Windows 7

  • IdeaCentre A320 wifi problem

I have just bought a Lenovo Ideacentre A320 is a very stylish 'All in One'  desktop that is spoilt by some bad faults, the worst of which is the Wifi adapter. It will not connect unless it's right on top of the router which makes Wifi rather pointless. My         office is 20ft from the router where my old Sony laptop and a Galaxy tab get a good signal. I have checked all the drivers and updated my Netgear DG834g V3 Router to the latest firmware but to no avail. Lenovo Support were not very helpful  and         could only suggest that I sent the whole lot back to Amazon for a replacement which would be a lot of hassle and  I am not      confident that it would solve the problem. Can anyone suggest a better solution or is the Broadcom 802.11n adapter just not up to the job? My Router is a Netgear DG834G V3 802.11g which I believe should not be a problem, although I wonder if there are some settings on the Broadcom that might need tweeking.
    Any help much appreciated.
    Thanks
    Chris

  • IdeaCentre Q190 Wifi problem, Win 7 Pro 32, 64b

I bought a couple of Lenovo IdeaCentre Q190 and all have a problem with Wifi.
The operating system is Windows 7 Professional SP1 32b and 64b.
    I downloaded the official drivers Realtek 8188EE Wifi for Microsoft Windows 7 (32-bit, 64-bit) - Version: 2007.2.0720.2012.
The installation went well, the computer is "hooked" on a wireless network, but it is not possible to open any web page. Various things I've tried (I do not even know what I tried everything) and some up and running and some not.
Another situation is to work on a Wifi router when it is moved to a different location with different wifi router, then again will not work.
Install any USB Wifi and it works perfectly.
So far I have installed several thousand machines and never had a situation like this.

    hi MarkoG,
    Welcome to the Forums.
    Can you try to:
    1. Install version 2010.9.0906.2013 from station drivers:
    2. When done updating the drivers, open the wireless card properties under Device Manager > Network Adapters > Advanced Tab and set the following :
    Roaming Aggressiveness = High
    Transmit Power = Maximum
    Source driver
    Hope this helps

  • Get 5800 to use 802.11b even when the router suppo...

I wonder if there's a way to get the 5800 to use 802.11b mode WiFi although the router supports both 802.11b/g. I checked all the connection settings menus and even in the advanced connection settings but I didn't find a way to do this. So does anyone of you guys here know if this is possible at all and if so how it could be done? thx

As I said, it would be dependent upon the hardware. Hope that its not a hardware shortcoming and a software thing which may be resolved in the future.

  • Please Help! Change RG60G to 802.11b?!

    Hey all,
How can i change the RG60G MSI wireless router to 802.11b from 802.11b/g, 802,11g?
    Please Answer Asap

When a router is in 802.11b/g, you can use electronics that to connect to the router regardless if they use the b or g protocol. My router's wireless(which is set to both b and g) can be connected by my daughter's machine(that uses b) and mine and my wife's(which use g).
So, the short answer is yes, it should have no problem.

  • Airport card 802.11b sees other networks but NOT my network!

Hi. Having a very strange tech issue today...
I have a 1ghz ti-book that no longer wants to connect or even SEE my home network after waking up from sleep. Up until today there has never been an issue. My home network is distributed via a Netgear 802.11b and g wireless router. Again, I have never ever had any issue whatsoever connecting to my network. WEP is enabled. There are also 6 other computers all connecting to the same network via wireless too. No problems.
The crazy thing is I know the card is still functioning properly because I can still see all the other available networks around in my area. Even when I place the ti-book RIGHT NEXT to the antenna on the netgear router, it refuses to acknowledge that it is there. Meanwhile, it is showing all of my neighbors networks just fine!
The only variable in this equation is that the hinge of the display is damaged, such that it won't stay open "by itself". The display normally has to be propped up against something. The machine works fine otherwise, no issues. The weak bezel breaking is an issue that many ti-book owners faced and it has been broken for a LONG time with no performance issues at all. The only thing I can think of is that maybe the wire to the antenna for the Airport card goes up the side of the display and somehow the wire is damaged or frayed. I don't know if this is how the ti-book was designed....does anyone know? Specifically, if the wire for the airport card runs along inside the case of the display on the 15 inch 1ghz ti-book?
If it does not...and it seems like it is not hardware damage to the cable because how else could I still be getting other networks but not my own...then I am stumped as to how to trick my machine into recognizing the network again. I have done the basic things such as booting into single user mode and rebuilding my index, logging in as root and other users to see if the preferences were corrupt, and even installing a bunch of wifi wardriving apps to force recognition of my network and still nothing!
Again the machine is right next to the access point, so what is causing it to no longer "see" it? I also updated the firmware in the router and checked configurations but no changes have been made and all the other machines work fine. Also it has NEVER done this before so I don't know how to troubleshoot it!
*What would cause an airport card to reject the signal that it is configured to connect to? How should I go about getting it to see the network again...without reconfiguring the network which would mean having to update all the other machines, etc.* I have macstumbler and istumble running and they see PLENTY of networks except for the closest one. It is so bizarre. It was working when I went to bed and now today, no network. I have rebooted numerous times, etc.
please help!! i need some ideas!!!
    thanks!

a somewhat in depth search across the interwebs has lead me to the conclusion that this problem is also affecting Leopard users as well. (I am on old hardware and running the latest Tiger) To be honest, I can not remember if there was an Apple update right before this problem started to happen. However, it seems real enough and many users out there are having problems re-connecting to their home/work networks after waking from sleep.
    just to clarify:
Using a ti-book with normal airport card installed (b not g)
Connected to a Netgear wireless router (configured to manage both b and g traffic)
WEP 64bit encryption key is being used for network
No problems whatsoever until a few days ago
    what works:
unplugging the power to the Netgear router (cycling power)
    what doesn't work:
    waking from sleep
    restarting
manually entering network name and password
using 3rd party apps to find network
resetting/deleting Network location preferences and creating new one
    deleting AppleAirPort2.kext from /System/Library/Extensions/
using either Diagnostic or Assistant mode to reconnect from scratch
it should NOT be this difficult to solve a networking issue. what is going on here?

  • Ubuntu 14.04 install on Lenovo IdeaCentre Q190 replacing Windows 8.1

I just purchased a Lenovo IdeaCentre Q190 and would like to replace Windows 8.1 with Ubuntu 14.04. As this is a secure boot machine, is there anything I need to watch out for besides disabling secure boot? I seem to remember that there is a boot partition that I need to leave alone (?) Is there a Lenovo tool installed that can save a copy of the drive as an image? I have already saved a copy of the system to a USB stick. There seem to be some issues in connection with installing Ubuntu 14.04 (booting, wifi, bluetooth) is there an overview of the install issues for the Q190 somewhere?
    Any advice appreciated.

If you are looking to entirely replace Windows on your drive, you can overwrite the entire drive, boot partition and all...
    BUT...
Since you seem to want to preserve your Windows installation, you can make your life a lot easier in the long-run by simply getting another hard disk drive and swapping it out for the one which you currently have installed. (If I understand correctly, the Q190 only supports one HDD at a time)
Then you can install Ubuntu on the empty drive and not have to worry about writing a massive .iso,
testing a massive .iso and at some point in the future trying to re-install a massive .iso.
Here's a link to the user manual:
    http://download.lenovo.com/consumer/desktop_pub/lenovo_ic_q190_ug_v1.0_win8_en_r_online_20130320.pdf
On page 31 it explains the BIOS options. Doing a UEFI Linux install is still quite unintuitive, though there are a few threads and video tutorials out there. If you're planning on using Linux, right now I would suggest good old legacy style.
An overview of Ubuntu install issues is a pretty tall order for any machine. External wifi and bluetooth dongles are generally a problem, though the problems are often remedied after finishing all of the recommended updates.
I could add more advice, but it will help if I know more about what you want from your machine.

  • Disable 802.11b/g

Can i disable 802.11b/g in my new Time Capsule that supports 802.11ac? Ultimaltely I want to disable all standards under 802.11ac (when iPhone/iPad finally supports it)
I have read old wifi standards slows downs routers/acess points etc.

Can i disable 802.11b/g in my new Time Capsule that supports 802.11ac?
    Sorry, but no.
Whlle you could customize and maximize previous versions of the Time Capsule, Apple has "upgraded" things by removing the settings that would allow this in the "new" Time Capsule.

  • Ideacentre b305 wifi networking issue

Well I just purchased a (used from a retailer) Lenovo ideacentre B305, everything seemed to work fine in the store(including wifi). I take my new computer home and I can not connect to wifi. I have tried troubleshooting the issue but everything tells me to plug in a network cable. I looked in the device manager and I can not find a wifi device, only a bluetooth and ethernet.
When the computer starts up I see the wifi symbol for a short time but it goes away and says no network connections are available.
I have once been able to get it to connect to my home network but in doing so I lost connection to my bluetooth mouse and keyboard. When I got my bluetooth mouse and keyboard back, I lost the wifi.
I have tried to update my drivers and it says I have the latest drivers, but I am worried that the wifi adapter has or is failing to function. If anyone here has had issues similar to this please let me know possible sollutions.

Hello ChuckyZ28 and welcome to community,
It is sad to know you have issue with your new all in one
At the rear view of the computer you have Wireless reset button, press it then go to BIOS by pressing F1 key and load default the BIOS.

  • Home Hub 3, 802.11b/g/n Not Working Well With Stre...

Hi, the iPhone 4S keeps disconnecting from the HH3 when normal web browsing or streaming media on an iPhone 4S, using apps YouTube and Twitch.TV. Other symptoms is the WiFi icon flashing off and on very quickly.
This happens on 802.11n and I changed to 802.11b/g which seems to solve this. Now that Home Hub 5 is out, it looks like we are 2 versions behind?
    Software version 4.7.5.1.83.8.94.1.11 (Type A)
    Last Update: 18/07/13
    Operating System: Ubuntu.

By using channel 5 you are overlapping with two other channels that are used by wireless routers so you could be actually making things worse. Channel 12 is better but still overlaps with 1 channel. You should look for the least congested channel on either 1,6 or 11 which are the only channels that do not overlap with other routers.
