I have a Lenovo S400 with Windows 8
I want to utilize the lenovo photo section to manipulate photos & type/labels on photos etc
I call Geek Squad....she did not know how suggested that I call Lenova..."You'll have to do some research"....
I call LENOVO and they tell me "Yes you can do that....we will set you up on a SERVICE CONTRACT...$20/mo or a $69 one time charge TO ASSIST ME IN HOW TO USE THEIR LAPTOP COMPUTER THAT IS NOT EVEN OUT OF WARRANTY.....
This is absurb.....Why would Best Buy even represent a company that deals this way?

Welcome to the Best Buy Forums!
Sometimes learning all the features and programs on a new computer can be intimidating and you may need help.  I know I’ve run into this roadblock before and it definitely can ruin some of the excitement of a new purchase.
With that being said, most manufacturers will not offer in-depth instructions on the programs they’ve created without charging for it.  However, many times you can find tutorials online that may help you get the most out of that program or at least get you going in the right direction.  My recommendation would be to search out the name of this program on your favorite search engine and see what you can find.
Hopefully you can find something that will help you get the most out of this program and computer.

    Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.
    Just to check, if you boot in Safe Mode, are you able to load Windows? If booting to Safe Mode works, perform a clean boot and observe. This will isolate any possible 3rd party software that might be inteferring with the Windows startup.
    If that doesn't work and Windows is hanging up on the loading screen then we're probably looking at a corrupted Windows file or a bad hardware. In this case, you may need to:
    1. Reload the system via the OneKey Recovery (note that all ways on the OS partition will be wiped)
    2. If reloading Windows doesn't work or the machine freezes up then you're prolly looking at a bad hardware (possibly the HDD).
    Let me know how it goes.

  • Lenovo IdeaPad Z710 Win 8.1 - Freezes und eine neverending Story...

    Hallo Community, bin noch relativ neu hier und habe vor ca. 4 Monaten das o.g. Notebook erstanden.Seit ca. drei Monaten gibts permanent Probleme mit Freezes beim Startup. Meistens erscheint der Freeze nach der Anmeldung, gerne auch mal mittendrin, sodass es während der Anmeldung schon zum Freeze kommt. Nach einem Neustart passiert erstmal gar nix... lädt und lädt, irgendwann gehts dann. Das Problem taucht ca. alle 2 - 3 Wochen auf und gerne muss ich das Notebook mehrfach komplett vom Strom trennen und auf gut Glück neustarten. Was hab ich bisher unternommen?Energy Management neu heruntergeladen, anschließend auch Hardware-Scan (Langzeit) ausgeführt - dieser verlief ohne Probleme Laufwerksreparatur (was am Anfang vor dem Booten von Windows kommt, ist ebenfalls durchgelaufen.. hat länger gedauert, jedoch wurden keine Probleme festgestellt.  Folgenden Thread habe ich noch verfolgt: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-B-und-G-Serien-Notebooks/Lenovo-G50-30-Windows-8-1-Boot-Probleme-ACPI/td-p/1824233 Allerdings weiß ich nicht, ob es exakt die gleiche Ursache ist, das Problem trifft jedenfalls von der Beschreibung exakt zu.Ich hatte früher sogar mal die Ursache von Windows 8.1. zurückgemeldet bekommen.. nur leider hab ich mir das nie gemerkt und somit weiß ich nicht, wo ich anfangen soll, zu suchen. Bevor ich mich an den Support wende, möchte ich daher mal anfragen, ob jemand von Euch noch eine Idee hat, was hier schlussendlich die Ursache ist? Treiber sind übrigens alle vorhanden, im Geräte-Manager habe ich keine Probleme feststellen können. Danke Euch und viele Grüße Marko50

Necesito saber si tengo algún tipo de solución, el caso es el siguiente: estaba usando la computadora normalmente, estaba con un USB 3G luego le saqué la batería encendida, (ya lo había hecho una vez antes, y después al ponerla y encender sucede que no arrancó y la dejé descargar y al cargarla y encender de nuevo sí prendió) pero en esta oportunidad hice lo mismo pero igual no arrancó, entro en recuperación y le doy a la opción de (no recuerdo si restaurar o que decía restaurar o recuperar, algo así) sin perder los archivos.. Pero en el proceso se sale la batería por no cerrar bien el "interruptor" entonces cuando la enciendo dice "recuperación, el equipo debe repararse,

    Cuando la compré trajo Windows 8 Single Language y siempre que me pedía actualización lo hacía.
    Yo compre un dvd de windows 8 SL para ver si lo podía reinstalar, lo coloco con un lector externo, muestra el logo de windows pero nada, a la media hora sale algo en pantalla azul con un he tratado de hacer un ISO en USB en la computadora de mesa de mi hermano que tiene xp 32 bit con rufus y con ese USB sale lo mismo, logo de windows y pantalla e negro, si entro con la tecla novo y le doy a recovery ella dice loading files..     Yo le eliminé el office ese que tenía que descargar para usar ya que no traía ni word ni nada, le instalé uno con un dvd de mi hermano, hace falta ese disco para algo??? Que puedo hacer??? Perdí todos los archivos del disco duro?? No tiene arreglo?? Ayuda, gracias. El USB que uso tiene 8GB. Hace falta mas capacidad?

    El código que mencionas se relaciona con el erro al arranque de Windows, puede ser ocasionado por el proceso de restauración se pasmo en pleno proceso.
    Ya has intentado crear un USB de recuperación desde otro ordenador con Windows 8 e intentar repara?
    Dices que cargar una imagen de Windows para re-instalar el sistema de cero pero has modificado algo en BIOS?, luego del Logo de Lenovo carga unos círculos en pantalla negra quiere decir que intenta acceder ala primera carga de Windows al decirte que necesita reparar no esta cargando la imagen de instalación, ten en cuenta que una instalación de cero elimina todo en C.

  • Lenovo Ideapad S400 touchpad stoped working

    My touchpad stoped working and need help

    Update! 
    This is by no means solved, but I do think it's >improved<.
    I found a newer driver (v. 11.4.7.1). The mouse pointer still has some delay, but it isn't as unbearable as it was before. I do find that the left click "button" is not always reliable (the single tapping is more reliable). But it's better and corroborates my thought that this is mainly a software issue. I also disabled all the multi-finger functions.

    Simply the switchable graphic ia not working on my device. Is there anyone who solved this issue? I fed up with sending my laptop to service. They say ' you have no problem about graphic card ' The second graphic card has not been working since we bought the computer. ??? I will use that comp. for experimantel porpuses: ) Because it is useless with the onboard graphic card.

  • Lenovo ideapad S400, battery not charging when plugged in

    Hi, I had the problem where the battery didn't charge at all even if it was connected in the right way and the charger was plugged in. So I started to search internet for possible solutions. Those I found where to 1) disable alt uninstall ac and acpi adapter in Windows Device Manager. Restart computer.. Not charging problem is related to some Windows issue. 2) Choose the alternative "maximum battery life" in Lenovo Energy management.. Neither worked after several and time consuming tries... The problem here is Lenovos "smart" Energy management system that prevents the computer from charging the battery to "save it".. Solution: Uninstall Energy Management (Publisher: Lenovo) under Program and Features in Windows Control Panel and the problem is solved.. And don't reinstall this **bleep**ty program again....

    I should note that this unit is pretty new: purchased in august 2012.

    I'm having a problem with a Lenovo Ideapad S400 Laptop on Linux. The brightness in any linux distribution is very low in comparison with windows 8 brightness.
    Some people also had the same problem when downgrading from windows 8 to windows 7. See:

    According to lenovo support, the problem is that brightness settings have 101 steps on windows 8 and only 16 steps on windows 7. See this picture to compare:

    Is there a specific solution to this problem on linux? For example, a procedure to force the brightness, a kernel module, a solution to a similar problem in another laptop, etc.

    Hi, this problem was corrected on kernel 3.8.3 by the kernel developers! I'm happy to say that many lenovo laptops now work in linux. Unfortunatly, not in windows 7 yet.
    Instructions on ubuntu:
    -go to http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/
    -folder kernel 3.8.3
    -in our case, download linux headers...amd64, linux-headers...all-amd64, linux-img...amd64, linux-image-extra....amd64
    -open the terminal
    -sudo dpkg -i *.deb
    -reboot and enjoy
    PS: Intel has release a new driver for INTEL HD Graphics that works smoothly with ubuntu and it is easy to install.

    -the rest is easy to follow
    i hope this will work also on other laptops and linux distributions

    Te recomiendo realices  un drenado de energía lo debes realizar de la siguiente manera
    1.retires la batería y desconectas  el cargador y presionas el botón de encendió  por 50 segundos  esta acción la realizas en tres ocasiones luego de liberar la energía estática procedes a encenderlo
    Espero sea de mucha ayuda esta recomendación y  a la espera de comentarios

  • Brillo Ideapad s400

    Buenos dias,
    instalé windows 7 en mi lenovo ideapad s400 y al instalar los drivers de la tarjeta grafica (Intel HD Graphics 4000), el brillo de la pantalla se redujo aunque sigue apareciendo como que está al maximo. ¿Existe alguna forma de solucionar este problema y recuperar el brillo perdido?

    Automáticamente Windows instala uno cual fue la versión que instalo para compararlo con la versión de la web de soporte y ver si el problema se soluciona en tema software.
    Con la versión que instalo Windows puede intentar ir al link que le pase antes y que le instale una actualización.
    Hay que descartar tema software, puede ir a las configuraciones de la BIOS cuando este hay intente subir el brillo con los atajos de teclado, este método fue una de las primeras soluciones en tema brillo hasta que se detecto que el problema pasaba por tema controlador de la Intel.

  • Hyper-V on Ideapad S400

    Hi. Has anyone succeeded in enabling Hyper-V on Ideapad S400 under Win 8 64 ? It all seems to be okay, the MachineSLATStatusCheck says it is a SLAT capable machine, coreinfo -v says Hypervisor is present, VMX and EPT are supported, in Control Panel>System Security>System>Advanced System Settings>System Properties>Advanced>Performance>Settings says "Your computer’s processor supports hardware-based DEP", but the Hyper-V item does not appear as a Windows resource to activate. I installed the Windows Phone 8 SDK, and in the end it greeted me with "Hardware virtualization is disabled on this PC. You must enable it through the BIOS settings. For more information, see MSDN article at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=252010" and also with "Failed to add current user to Hyper-V administrators group.". I took a good look at the BIOS options, but the only one which seems to relate is "Intel Virtual Tecnology -Vanderpool technology", that I suppose is the Intel VT-d and is recommended to be disabled. Anyone ?

    Keep in mind that Hyper-V isn't available in the base Windows 8 or 8.1.  Pro is required.

  • Lenovo IdeaPad U410 - PowerButton Flashing LED

    I have removed Battery and CMOS battery to trouble shoot this U410 which often will not POST.
    If I plug in the AC power supply I press the power button very briefly it flashes on and off a few times.
    Press to turn off then press again and it comes on and stays on, then it WILL POST and I get the expected:
    CMOS battery failure
    FI to continue, F2 to enter set up…..
    F1 and it boots normally into Windows 7 but of course the date and time are way off…..
    Can someone tell me what is happeneing when the Power Button LED flashes on and off?? Whatever it is..it is clearing the block to this thing POSTing..will always POST after this...

    That really doesn't indicate much of anything as there are no light error codes for your model.  The light is just an indication that the machine is trying to boot up before shutting down. 
    You might try stripping all the hardware out of the laptop and then see if the boot up is any different with and without the CMOS battery installed.  Remove the hard drive, optical drive, wireless card and bluetooth if it is installed. If you have more than one memory module try them one at a time and in different slots.
