Lenovo Ideapad U410: part of screen is white

I have a Lenovo Ideapad U410 and the left part of my screen is uniformly white after turning on the laptop. It's a rectangle about 1 inch long, from top of the screen to the bottom.
I got this suddenly pretty much a month after buying the laptop (it appeared suddenly and I didn't do anything to cause it), and then the area of the white rectangle got bigger after I mistakenly dropped my laptop yesterday.
Would buying a new screen and installing it fix this, or could the problems be more besides the screen?
And is this covered by limited warranty?
Thanks.

Hi Dsav6,
As per your concern, I would suggest you to please re-install the graphics driver of your system from the below mentioned web link.
http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/research/hints-or-tips/detail.page?&DocID=HT073650
Afterwards, please restart the system and check if the issue still persists then it needs a personal assistance and it will be covered under warranty.
Regards,
Sameer

  • Lenovo Ideapad U410 scrolling down with a grey screen

    HI,
I just recently purchased the Lenovo Ideapad U410 and sometimes when I try to scroll down with both fingers, a grey line and background bar starts to come down and encompass the whole screen, rendering the screen and all my apps useless. And then on the right side, it shows the time and date squished togetherand I can't seem to get out of it unless I go back to the start and then open the desktop again.
Why is it doing this and is there a way to stop it because when it scrolls all the way down, the laptop won't work and if I don't touch the touchpad, bubbles start forming forming as if it's a screen saver.
    Thanks

It sounds like your hard drive is failing or has failed. It cannot repair the disk and is suggesting you back up and format the drive. Do you already have a backup?

  • Lenovo IdeaPad U410 - PowerButton Flashing LED

I have removed Battery and CMOS battery to trouble shoot this U410 which often will not POST.
If I plug in the AC power supply I press the power button very briefly it flashes on and off a few times.
Press to turn off then press again and it comes on and stays on, then it WILL POST and I get the expected:
    CMOS battery failure
FI to continue, F2 to enter set up…..
F1 and it boots normally into Windows 7 but of course the date and time are way off…..
Can someone tell me what is happeneing when the Power Button LED flashes on and off?? Whatever it is..it is clearing the block to this thing POSTing..will always POST after this...

That really doesn't indicate much of anything as there are no light error codes for your model.  The light is just an indication that the machine is trying to boot up before shutting down.
You might try stripping all the hardware out of the laptop and then see if the boot up is any different with and without the CMOS battery installed.  Remove the hard drive, optical drive, wireless card and bluetooth if it is installed. If you have more than one memory module try them one at a time and in different slots.

  • Lenovo Ideapad U410 - no screen output or black screen, and just out of warranty

My kid has been using this laptop and loved it, but mentioned a while ago it was difficult to power it back on after turnned it off. However she managed to work around by putting it in hibernate/sleeping mode only, or recycling the system many times (by holding on power button to force it off). The issue was black screen (no Lenovo logo) but computer was on. I didn't pay much attention because she can still make it work, and I was too busy. Last week, there was a windows update (again) and the computer was forced recycle. It never comes back alive again. The same, computer is humming, but no any visual output on screen, just black. Tried novo button, bootable USB, external monitor, all no use. Check the warranty, just over by 2 months! Asked the service store, to fix will cost at least $200-$300 to replace the motherboard! It does not make sense when spent a bit more could buy a new notebook. But my kid liked it and it does not make sense to throw it away either, when it still looks pretty new and only being used very lightly (schoolwork only). It is sad, especially the brand has been gainning my trust. I probably don't expect a "good" solution either from Lenovo or community, but just throw my frustration here (only because have just registered the account and there is no support email or web form). If Lenovo want to make customer happy, the part shouldn't be so expensive for a short-lived laptop! Just by the way, there are many posts about Ideapad's black screen issue, and many blameed window 8.1 for the compatibility problem. It made me thought so too because the initial sympton was exactly the same. The best thing you should do: don't waste time on fixing the driver or config, get the hardware replaced as soon as you could when  still in warranty. If not so lucky, probably think it twice next time when you want to buy a Lenovo.

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !
Sorry to hear of all the problems.  Here are a couple of things to try........
First, try a reset of the BIOS.  The procedure can be useful in resolving some hardware conflicts which your computer may have.  Just do this......
    1. Unplug the charger / adapter.
    2. Press and hold the Power Button for 15 seconds.
    3. Plug in the charger / adapter if needed and power up the system to see if the problem was resolved.
If you are comfortable working inside your laptop. try this........
Try the reset again with the battery removed.
If the reset didn't resolve the problem then you may have a failed piece of hardware preventing the bootup. Remove the battery, hard drive, optical drive, memory, wireless card and bluetooth if it is installed. Now try to power up the stripped laptop. With all the hardware removed you should have lights come on and it may possibly beep since there is no memory installed. If the laptop is showing signs of life start adding hardware one piece at a time starting with a memory module and boot up the laptop. If it doesn't power up try the memory in the other slot. Also try the other memory module separately in both slots if two are available. If it is still showing signs of life add another piece and boot. Do this for each item until it doesn't power up again. The last piece of hardware installed is your problem part.
The link below is for your model's Hardware Maintenance Manual. The manual will explain how to remove the various hardware items. When working inside your system please follow all precautions and recommendations that are noted in the manual.
    http://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles_pub/ideapad_u310_u410_hmm_1st_edition_mar_2012_english.pdf
There is also a Lenovo Training video that will show you how to remove the various items.  These are listed in the FRU section.

  • Lenovo Ideapad U410: Display not working after sleep and/or restart

    Hello all,
I am recently having some inconsistent display issues with my Lenovo U410 laptop i7 1TB with a Windows 8 PRO upgrade (came with windows 7).
When I press the Power Button on my laptop to put it to sleep, the Screen turns black as if it is off, but the Power & Battery LEDs on the front of the laptop remain on, as well as the LED on the power button.  However, when I try to wake my laptop, there is no response on the screen (remaining black as if it is off).  The internal fan is running, however I receive no feedback when "blindly" trying to input my password.
I've tried to turn the power off and back on to no avail.  I've also removed the power source and held the power button for a couple of seconds and that did not solve the issue either. I've tried connecting the laptop to a screen via HDMI (since there is no other AV port on the device), but there was no signal being sent through.
This is an inconsistent issue that began yesterday 6/11/2013.  When the laptop is left alone for a little and is turned on again, the display works, but after closing the lid (sleep) or pressing the button, the display fails to turn on upon awakening.
In most recent circumstances, Today (6/12/2013) I was installing a Windows update that required my computer to restart.  When the update configured perfectly BEFORE it was restarting, but AFTER the restart, my internal fan began to work, but the display was not on.
Does anybody or Tech support know what may cause this inconsistent behavior?  or know any solutions to this issue?

I am facing similar problem - post sleep & sometimes on touchpad event - the screen gets stuck & a strange array of gray screen comes or the existing screen's colors get distorted & the laptop gets stuck.
model - Lenovo U410; 64 Bit; Windows 7 Home basic;,  Intel core i5 processor
I have upgraded display drivers but that hasn't changed anything. Any help is appreciated.

  • Lenovo IdeaPad U410 with windows 8 . I want add windows 7 64bit error

    Hi,
i just buy this laptop that come with windows8, and i want install in dual boot windows 7 wich i use.
The installation from USB PEN DRIVE START , after change some bios boot setting, but i get the error:
windows cannot be installed to the disk. the selected disk is of the gpt partition style site
I read many forum ant it seem problem due to the raid configuration of the 2 disk coming from Lenovo.
I would like to mantain this configuration without delete all and format the hard disk, i just want add windows 7 in other partition . Is it possible?
    Any suggestion will be helpful!

    Hi all,
could not agree more!!! And I don't even wanted to upgrade but simply do ONLY a new, clean install of Win 7. As a result of the really crappy instructions (there aren't any, all that is available are various contradicting posts on the user forum) my machine now even does not get into BIOS anymore!
And I am currenty in Ecuador, bought the machine in Germany. When I called technical support in Germany all they said, we don't know, send us the laptop. That will esily be half a year until I get that laptop back!
And all because there is NO guide how to re-partition your HDD and SDD, set up the RAID correctly and install Windows!
Well, at least there is now light at the end of the tunnel. I got promised a solution how to at least get into BIOS again. Then I STILL have to figure out how to manage to do the clean install....
I would think it would take an experienced lenovo technican half an hour to write a decent installation guide and put it on the web as a PDF and that would avoid lots of hassle for gzillions of people who buy the u410. And how about actually making the current BIOS and flash instructions available? Can't be all that difficult really...

  • Lenovo IdeaPad U410 StartUp Issue

I hope that someone can provide some assistance for me please?
I turned on my laptop about 3 days ago, when I boot up I receive a blue error screen saying that:
"Your PC ran into some and need to restart. We're just collecting some error info, and the we'll restart for you"
and after 2 sec screen turns off and starts saying "preparing automatic repair" then again restarts and displays the above message This process is continuously happening and laptop is not boot normally
.Even when I power up using the Novo button, I get the 4 options or Normal startup, Bios, Boot Menu and System Recovery but each option brings me back to the above error screen.
-Whatever option I select I just get brought back to the above error message -
I don't have any disc or media as nothing came with the laptop, all OEM, and I have no idea what to do?

    hi dilip0506,
    Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.
    Can you try the following:
    1. Download the Windows 8.1 Enterprise ISO (90 day trial) and create a bootable DVD or USB (see this guide)
    2. Boot from the disc or USB that you created in Step 1 and folliow this guide on how to enable legacy safe mode.
From here, you can try to:
    - boot in Safe Mode / Last Known Good Configuration to isolate a driver issue
    - Backup your files using the command prompt > notepad trick (check this guide for screenshots) or perform a System Restore, Refresh, or Reset.
    3. If the above steps doesn't work and you have an HDD+SSD drive, try to boot in the BIOS, set the SATA Controller Mode from RAID to AHCI, save the settings then boot in Safe Mode and observe.
       - this step will isolate any configuration / detection issues that's connected on the mSATA SSD.
    - Link to picture
Let me know how it goes.

  • Upgraded to Windows 10 on Lenovo Ideapad p400 touch, screen went dim

Hello,I just installed the free Windows 10 upgrade on my Lenovo Ideapad p400 touch last night.  I woke up this morning and booted up my computer, and everything was fine until I attempted to change the brightness.  When I tried to do this, my screen went very dim, and now I can't adjust the brightness (and I can't read my screen well, either).  Normally, I would install/reinstall the video driver in order to fix this problem (recommended for other users with similar issues), but I currently do not see a Windows 10 version of the driver I need on the Lenovo website.I was wondering:a) if/when a new driver would be available to install (if that's the recommended solution)b) is there something else going on?c) Windows 10 allows you to revert back to Windows 8.1 within the first month of use.  Should I just do this?d) Is the p400 touch capable of running Windows 10? Why or why not?Thank you!

Hello.  I also have a Lenovo Ideapad p400 touch.  Screen also went dim on me. In Windows 8.1 just uninstalling graphic's driver worked.  It was Control Panel, Device Manager and then Display Adapters.  That doesn't work with Windows 10. The other solution of rebooting and press the increase brightness key at the Lenovo logo somewhat works but it doesn't turn the brightness all the way up. So I found this worked for me: Go here:  http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/ideapad-p-series-laptops/ideapad-p400-touch-notebook/downloads/DS031547 And just download and reinstall the old graphics driver for Windows 8.  That finally got me back to maximum brightness.

  • Ideapad U410 wont start - Motherboard failure?

So I purchased my Lenovo Ideapad U410 almost exactly 1 year ago. I bought it to use at college because of its slim design and lightweight. I have absolutely loved this computer up until a week ago when it unexpectedly wouldn't start. The computer was extremely hot and when I tried turning it on it cycled through 3 screens. The first was the Lenovo start screen, the second a screen with some writing on it and the third a black screen. I brought my computer into the tech people at my college and they said that my hard drives were perfectly fine, but that something was wrong with my motherboard and they didn't know what. I was told that my situation was pretty much hopeless. I've tired using the recovery button and everything, but nothing has seemed to work. Is there any hope for my computer?
I am extremely angered and frustrated that this happened so soon after the purchase. If this is the quality of Lenovo computers then I am never purchasing another one, and I will highly recommend all of my friends and family to do the same.
Here are the pictures of what the screen does:

I had the same problem .. I phoned Lenovo support, took it to nearest service centre and they replaced the motherboard as it was under warranty. It took several days to a week as the part needed to be shipped to them, however I got it back as good as new,
I have no complaints with the service that they provided.
You may even have an extended hardware warranty as Lenovo ship their product with flyers .. check your paperwork.
Also your consumer rights are not affected by the warranty period .. learn those and then discuss it with Lenovo support.

    Hi,
My Lenovo Ideapad U410 has suddenly stopped working in normal mode. If I need to open a link or an important document, I open it in a safe mode.
Has anyone faced a similar kind of issue? I don't want to format the system as i would first like to know the root cause. The laptop is within a warranty period however Ideapads don't have an international warramty i guess.
    Any help would be appreciable.

This is cause by some conflict/defective in the installed drivers. Try doing the procedure describe in this link. It also described on how to determine which is causing the problem.

  • Schlechte Garantieabwicklung - IdeaPad U410

Hallo.

Kostenpunkt: 124,70€ 15,00€ Backcover, 15,00€ LCD Bezel???
Sowas nennt man ABZOCKE

Try doing an OKR backup. Click OneKey Recovery icon and select backup. Specify an external drive (do not use the failing hdd). Make at least two backups just in case the first one is defective. Call tech support in preparation for a replacement job.
