  • Lenovo IdeaPad N580 - Windows 7 - Optiarc DVD RW AD-7740H

I recently formatted my IdeaPad N580 laptop, it came with Windows 8 installed and i downgraded to Windows 7, the Optiarc DVD RW device stopped working, more specifically it "works" but the drivers are messed up (my assumption), it flashes the light, opens/close the tray and even makes noise as if it were trying to read the CD/DVD but all/any CD/DVD i tried with does not execute nor even appears as if there were nothing, the device itself does not appear in the system, no icons.
The drivers (Windows 7 Default drivers) do not work and the manufacturer does not provide a driver download for that model in their site.
Any kind of help will be greatly appreciated, thanks.

  • Lenovo IdeaPad Y570 OEM Wallpapers

I bought my Lenovo Y570 a year ago and replaced the OEM version of Windows 7 with the Professional version a few months back. Since then I've been missing the beautiful OEM Lenovo wallpapers.
I was able to recover the wallpapers (1920x1200) from my hidden recovery partition using the following commands:
    1. Run cmd as administrator
    2. diskpart
    3. list disk
    4. select disk 0 (disk 0 on my machine)
    5. list partition
    6. select partition 3 (partition 3 is labeled as OEM on my machine)
    7. detail partition (Hidden must be set to "Yes")
    8. set id = 07 (after that the partition will be mounted as Windows NTFS)
    9. Go to the new mounted drive and open OKRBackup\Factory\OS.okr with 7zip or WinZip
    10. Find the files in the  "Windows\Web\Wallpaper" directory and extract them to your home directory
    Set partition back to hidden:
    set id = 12 (Lenovo/IBM)

Not sure if there would be any Vista drivers for this as it has been shipped with Windows 7 drivers.
    Cheers and regards,

  • Attention! Laptop Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 10 is not compatible with Windows 8.1

    Attention!
Laptop Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 10 is not compatible with Windows 8.1 and Windows 8.1 Update (pre-installed operating system is Windows 8.0) .
More specifically, after update for Windows 8.1 all the  drivers (including the latest)  Intel (R) Iris (TM) graphics, Intel (R) Iris (TM) Pro graphics and Intel (R) HD GRAPHICS  installed on this laptop  does not support out of the sleep mode.
This has been checked many times by different users laptop Flex 10.
Any comments from Lenovo are absent. By Lenovo specifications for this notebook there are no conflicts with Windows 8.1. It is not true!
It is unclear why Lenovo has admitted this deficiency.
I think Lenovo Flex 10 is a mistake that will cost the company Lenovo.

    Mine came with Windows 8.1

  • Wireless Bluetooth Speakers (TDK A33s) Won't Stay Paired to Windows 8.1 (Lenovo IdeaPad Y580)

    Hello,
I recently acquired a pair of Bluetooth speakers (the TDK A33), and am unable to connect it to my PC. The Bluetooth interface sees the speakers, connects with
them for a few seconds when I try to pair, and then disconnects. The speakers connect to my phone just fine, so it's not the speakers (and TDK tech support hasn't exactly been very helpful).
    I'm running Windows 8.1 on a Lenovo IdeaPad Y580; I tried updating
my Bluetooth drivers, as a few sites recommended (pulling them from them Lenovo site), but still no dice. I've read a few things that seem to suggest is a

  • Upgraded to Windows 10 on Lenovo Ideapad p400 touch, screen went dim

Hello,I just installed the free Windows 10 upgrade on my Lenovo Ideapad p400 touch last night.  I woke up this morning and booted up my computer, and everything was fine until I attempted to change the brightness.  When I tried to do this, my screen went very dim, and now I can't adjust the brightness (and I can't read my screen well, either).  Normally, I would install/reinstall the video driver in order to fix this problem (recommended for other users with similar issues), but I currently do not see a Windows 10 version of the driver I need on the Lenovo website.I was wondering:a) if/when a new driver would be available to install (if that's the recommended solution)b) is there something else going on?c) Windows 10 allows you to revert back to Windows 8.1 within the first month of use.  Should I just do this?d) Is the p400 touch capable of running Windows 10? Why or why not?Thank you!

Hello.  I also have a Lenovo Ideapad p400 touch.  Screen also went dim on me. In Windows 8.1 just uninstalling graphic's driver worked.  It was Control Panel, Device Manager and then Display Adapters.  That doesn't work with Windows 10. The other solution of rebooting and press the increase brightness key at the Lenovo logo somewhat works but it doesn't turn the brightness all the way up. So I found this worked for me: Go here:  http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/ideapad-p-series-laptops/ideapad-p400-touch-notebook/downloads/DS031547 And just download and reinstall the old graphics driver for Windows 8.  That finally got me back to maximum brightness.

  • Lenovo Ideapad u400 6470M driver problems Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit HELP

I bought this lenovo u400 like 2 years ago and i had no problems, but now my SSD went dead and i bought another, after the replacement i just installed the original windows 7 64 bit home premium, put my notebook's serial installed all the drivers, and when i install the Ati driver from Lenovo my pc gets stuck in a black screen with a white line on the top left of my screen, when i do FN+F8 while booting and start window's safe mode and i go to the device manager i see this ones: 6470M and Intel HD graphics family, when i disable intel hd graphics family my pc boots up normally but the resolution is 800x600 and the max is 1024x768, If i install the Intel 3000 HD my 6470m appears with a yellow triangle on the device manager, i've tried almost 30 different drivers from leshcat, hp, dell, lenovo and AMD's webpage, none of them work, and when i go to the CCC it just lists the intel 3000.
Sorry for my bad english, im from Argentina, Lenovo's support on argentina sucks, last time i've sent it it costed a lot of money, they scratched multiple parts on my laptop and didn't fix most of my problems, and i can't get the One Key backup anywhere, pls help, atleast AND IF ANYONE WITH A LENOVO U400 WITH WINDOWS 7 HOME PREMIUM IS READING THIS AND HIS 6470M DRIVER IS WORKING, PLEASE CONTACT ME.
Lenovo, please, don't give me a crappy answer and most of times when that answer does not fix the problem then you give up and don't reply anymore. Im getting sick, i got this laptop for doing 3D modeling, video editing and multiple more and i just can't go and buy another, things are really expensive in Argentina.

  • Lenovo Yoga with Windows 8 Pro, Office 2013 and Visual Studio

For you developer types, I just wanted to post a message and let you know my experience with Lenovo Ideapad Yoga 13 as a development machine. I bought Lenovo Ideapad Yoga 13 from Bestbuy for $999.99. As expected, it came with a crap ton of bloatware installed by Lenovo.
Here is a summary of what I did to it (I take no responsilibity for accuracy of below information. You are on your own if you decide to follow them. I am just putting this down from my memory so that I can look it up in the future if I ever need to do this again).
    INITIAL CLEANUP
Installed Lenovo hotfix for partition cleanup/merging: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS033035
    Installed Lenovo Touchpad driver fix.
CAUTION: I take no responsibility for below steps. I am writing them from memory and if you decide to follow them and end up making your machine unusable, you are on your own as Lenovo might not honor your warranty.
BACK UP ENTIRE DISK (requires an empty USB flash drive for booting and another external USB drive for backup)
Copied Drivers from D_Backup folder to the external USB hard drive (plugged into USB 3.0 port).
Installed Paragon Backup & Recovery 2012 Free: http://www.paragon-software.com/home/br-free/
Created Paragon Backup & Recovery boot USB flash drive with default Linux recovery environment option (flash drive plugged into USB 2.0 port).
    Shutdown Lenovo Yoga.
Plugged in the Paragon Backup & Recovery boot USB flash drive (USB 2.0 port).
Pressed the one key recovery button (next to power button). Went to BIOS.
In the BIOS, enabled Legacay mode and made Legacy high priority and saved the changes.
The machine booted into Paragon Backup & Recovery mode. From there, made a backup of entire disk to the external USB hard drive.
Shut down the machine, pressed the one key recovery button (next to power button). Went to BIOS. Turned off Legacy mode and switched back to UEFI boot mode and saved the changes and restarted the machine.
Logged into the machine and verified that everything was good and checked the external USB drive to verify that the backup image was present.
MAKE WINDOWS 8 PRO BOOT USB FLASH DRIVE (requires a second empty USB flash drive and a second computer with Windows 7. This USB Flash Drive has to be between 4GB to 32GB as Windows won't format 64GB flash drives to FAT32 mode)
(Note: I installed Windows 8 Pro in UEFI mode. See http://pcsupport.about.com/od/windows-8/a/install-windows-8-usb.htm)
You need a licensed ISO image of Windows 8 Professional Full version (not the upgrade version) from your MSDN or Technet subscription or create an ISO from the Windows 8 Pro full version DVD.
Download Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool on the computer with windows 7.
Plug in the second empty USB flash drive (has to be at least 4GB but less than 32GB) into the computer with Windows 7.
Using Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool and the ISO file, create the Windows 8 Pro bootable USB Flash drive.
Create a new folder on your computer disk, for example, C:\WIN8USB.
Copy all the files from your USB flash drive to the newly created folder (created in the previous step).
Right click on the USB drive icon in Computer window and select “Format…” from the context menu. Make sure you select “FAT32 (Default)” in “File system” drop down menu. Click “Start” and wait till the drive gets formatted. This step is needed because NTFS is not readable by BIOS in UEFI boot mode. During formatting, MBR is preserved so the thumbdrive is still bootable.
Copy all the files from the folder you created earlier (C:\WIN8USB, for example) to the formatted drive. Your Windows 8 installation USB drive is ready to install in UEFI mode.
    WIPE THE DISK PARTITIONS
Shut down the machine, pressed the one key recovery button (next to power button). Went to BIOS, enabled Legacay mode and made Legacy high priority and saved the changes.
Booted into Paragon Backup & Recovery boot USB flash drive again. This time, I deleted all partitions on the primary disk (Disk 0). CAUTION: This WILL wipe your hard disk and will make your machine unusable!!!
Shut down the machine, pressed the one key recovery button (next to power button). Went to BIOS. Turned off Legacy mode and switched back to UEFI boot mode and saved the changes and shut down the machine.
At this point, the disk is wiped clean. All factory installed software and recovery partitions are gone!!!
    INSTALL WINDOWS 8 PRO
Plug in the USB Flash Drive with Windows 8 Pro install files.
Windows 8 Installer would show the unallocated disk space. I can't remember the exact details but either I had to click on Delete or New to delete and then create a new GPT partition. The entire partition was about 119GB.
From that point, follow the Windows 8 Pro installation steps.
After booting up into Windows 8 Pro, plug the external USB drive that had the drivers folder backed up from D_backups.
Install all the drivers from this folder (I was able to install everything except for one Intel fast boot one because of missing partition but my Yoga still boots up just as fast).
Go to device manager to check and everything should be good now.
    Run Windows Update.
You should now have about 101GB free on C: drive!!
INSTALL VISUAL STUDIO, SQL SERVER and OFFICE 2013 ON LENOVO YOGA 13
I installed the following in that order:
Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Developer edition (I installed all components, everything!). Then I installed latest service pack.
Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 (I installed all components, everything!). Then I installed latest service pack.
Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Developer edition(I installed all components, everything!). Then I installed latest service pack.
Microsoft Visual Studio 2012(I installed all components, everything!)
I ran Windows update and also installed Nov 2012 updates of SQL Server Data tools.
I then installed Office 2013 Pro Plus.
MAKE LENOVO YOGA 13 MORE SECURE
Go to Control Panel and enable Windows Defender (it is included by default in Windows 8 and is anti-virus and anti-malware solution)
Enable full hard-disk encryption using BitLocker feature of Windows 8 Pro. Since Lenovo Ideapad Yoga 13 doesn't have hardware TPM, you have to enable password based option. For this, follow the steps here: http://rics.partners.org/show_article.php?id=274.
Basically, you go to GPEDIT.MSC and Open Computer Configuration => Administrative Templates => Windows Components => BitLocker Drive Encryption => Operating System Drives. From the right pane double-click "Require additional authentication at startup. Select Enabled radio button and check the box for "Allow BitLocker without a compatible TPM...". Click OK and close the policy editor. Then Right-click your C drive in the Computer folder, click Turn on BitLocker. Then select Enter a password instead of USB option. Then provide a strong password (make sure to write it down and put it in a SAFE place, if you lose the password, no one can boot into your hard disk). Then select Save to a file and save it to the External Drive. Select "Encrypt entire drive...", click Next. When this is done, you will get a pop-up on the lower-right a prompt to restart the computer. Restart your PC. Enter the encryption password created earlier. If you are successful in getting into Windows, you're all set.
I also hooked up to Skydrive and used BoxCryptor to encrypt my files in cloud.
The available free disk space should now be about 54GB.
I verified that Lenovo Yoga 13 works like a champ with no slowdown with Visual Studio 2010, Visual Studio 2012 and SQL Server Management Studio open simultaneously and Bitlocker enabled!
The keyboard right SHIFT key is small but other than that, it can work as a great portable development machine and Microsoft Reader is great for reading PDF eBooks.
So if you are a Developer on Microsoft platform, go right ahead. Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 13 is great for running Visual Studio 2010 and Visual Studio 2012 (1600x900 resolution is totally usable) while on the move. Since I have only had this machine for a few days, I can't tell much about the long term reliability.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Thank you for posting this. I am in this exact situation. I purchased a yoga 13, and installed Visual Studio Express 2012 for Windows Phone. As it turns out, the Windows Phone Emulator ONLY works in a Windows 8 Pro environment. Since the Yoga doesn't have a disc drive, I shared my W7 computer's cd drive, then put in Windows 8 Pro, so that it could install onto the Yoga. Well, after the installation was done, I tried running my program again and ran into the same issue. It prompted me that my environment must be Windows 8 Pro! I thought that Windows 8 Pro already installed but, what confuses me is that I see no indication that Windows 8 Pro installed. When I go to the System Window, it reads: "Windows 8". Should it read Windows 8 Pro?
Ultimately, I'd like to know, are you able to execute the Windows Phone Emulator? I'm not sure as to whether the Yoga has the hardware capability (needs to be SLAT enabled or something like that?), I HOPE it is able to, and judging by your post, it seems like it but I'd love to know your perspective on my approach.
Please let me know if this makes sense, as I'm new to this kind of thing but really want to start development for Windows Phone.

  • Lenovo Ideapad Yoga 13 Recovery Issues

I'm very disappointed from Lenovo for producing Laptop without complete recovery solution.
I mistakely formated the hard drive of Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 13, so I lost the recovery, so I called Contact Centre and they pointed me to Jumbo Electronics Company in Abu Dhabi of which are aotherized to do services for Lenovo. I went to them to save time, and get my laptop back to the initial state of which I bought, instead of getting the original state of how I bought the laptop which was:
    1. Windows 8.1 Single Language.
    2. All Drivers are Installed.
    3. At Start-Up, I should be getting to put in my sync account while it's preparing windows for first use.
    I got the following:
    1. Windows 8 Single Language installed. (Not 8.1)
    2. Drivers are installed.
    3. Recovery is supposed to be back.
    4. Local User Account "Lenovo" was created.
OK, Skip it, it's fine. I thought about trying to do recovery to make sure of the recovery working before I do back up of it, here is what I got:
    1. Windows 8 Single Language Installed (Not 8.1)
    2. Not all drivers are installed (For ex. Wireless Driver which is very important for this laptop since no LAN no other connection except wireless)
So I thought they gave me the non-original recovery because of the missing drivers which was not believable to me.
I contacted "Service Centre for IdeaPad Within UAE" ended up telling me that that was the original copy of the Recovery and Yes, it does not Install the Wireless Drivers! And that he himself tried it at his side and confirms it!
Can somebody explain to me how come that I paid for recovery to recover the laptop to the initial state and I did not get the real initial state of the laptop?
How come at the service centre they don't tell me "Warning" about the wireless and that I have to download and back-up the drivers before doing the recovery of the laptop?
How come actually Lenovo produces a laptop with recovery missing drivers?
VERY DISAPPOINTING! VERY ANGRY AT LENOVO! If I CAN RETURN THE LAPTOP AND BUY FROM DIFFERENT BRAND, I WOULD DO SO!
BIOS FEATURES ARE POOR NO BOOTING FROM SD CARD AVAILABLE!
WIRELESS IS POOR IN QUALITY WHILE ITS THE ONLY AND MAIN CONNECTION FOR THE LAPTOP!
Simply you are SELLING half Quality Products, WORST RECOVERY SOLUTIONS EVER! AND EXPENSIVE FOR NOTHING!
VERY DISAPPOINTED AT LENOVO PRODUCTS FROM THE FIRST IMPRESSION OF LENOVO IDEAPAD YOGA 13!

I have the same problem.  If I continually power cycle the machine (either via CTRL-ALT-DEL or the switch) combined with either plugging or unplugging it from power I can eventually get it to boot up.  No idea how to fix it yet.  I noticed that the fan doesnt seem to be running when it doesn't boot and it is almost like it has to "warm up" or something before it will boot to the hard drive.  Any fixes would be greatly appreciated.

  • Lenovo C560 with Windows 8.1 (16-gb RAM) will not successfully load Windows Movie Maker

I loaded Windows Movie Maker 12 with Windows Essentials.  -This is exactly the same setup I am using on a HP desktop at work with Windows 8.1, but for some reason my C560 keeps giving me a "low memory" warning and will not load a AVI clip.  -Worse, after trying... my whole computer gets glitchy and nothing seems to work properly until I shut it down, and restart it.
Quick recap on what I have tried.  Upgraded from 6-gb to 16-gb of RAM.  Increased the size of my Virtual Memory as much as it would let me.  Nothing has made the slightest bit of difference.

If you have a flashlight available I would shine it into each of the USB ports to make sure all the contacts are aligned straight and to see there is no debris in the port that could be shorting out the data contacts.
Another thing to try is going into Windows Device Manager and uninstall the USB and then reboot the computer.  When the computer restarts it will again install the USB ports.  This procedure will make sure the operating system correctly has them installed.
If the USB ports are still not functioning I would recommend you contact Lenovo Support for warranty service. You can find the phone number for Lenovo Support in your country or area by using the link below....
