I have decided to upgrade my laptop's Wi-Fi modem to the newer one. So, I have checked the hardware maintenance manual for my laptop for the needed equipment and found out that the best option would be "WLAN card, 802.11a/g/n && 802.16e, Intel 6250NX MOW M PCIE NB HMC" (FRU number: 20002321). So, I have purchased this WLAN card and after the hardware installation BIOS started to display "104-unsupported network device detected" error. Even though I have upgraded BIOS to the latest available version. It would be great to have some explanation about the hardware compatibility. Otherwise it seems that I have just wasted my money on incompatible hardware.I'm afraid you have a wifi card that is not authorized that is why you have the message. Examine the card if it has the fru number indicated in the manual.

  • Help! I screwed up my Lenovo Ideapad Z570 Laptop with Windows 10

Hi So after upgrading to Windows 10 yesterday, I decided to do a clean install of Windows 10 as it was a bit laggy. Now after getting the Windows from the Microsoft website and booting from a USB drive, I did a clean install of Windows 10. But after the notification tray loads, the wifi icon has a small red X mark next to it and when I select it, there are no networks being shown. When I go to settings ( Network & Internet ), on the first WiFi tab, it shows Wi-Fi as off and no matter how many times I press it doesn't stay on. I have no idea what is wrong with my laptop or why the setting is stuck on off. The master switch is set at ON. As a complete novice when it comes to these matters, I begging the community here for help as otherwise I won't be able to use my laptop without internet connection. Please help.

Try using another computer to download the drivers for your wireless card onto a flash drive. Once the drivers are downloaded, put the flash drive into your laptop and install the drivers from there. Hopefully this will solve the issue.
If you have an Intel WLAN card, you can go to the Intel Download Center and find your product. Alternatively, you can go to the Lenovo product page and find drivers there. Let me know if you need links .

  • Getting Partitions Ready to Install Ubuntu on ideapad Z570

    Hi,
I've been doing some research around partitioning and installing Ubuntu on my Lenovo ideapad Z570 as part of a dual-boot set-up with Windows.  I've pretty much read all of these forums and webpages which pertain to partitioning, etc.
    http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Y-U-B-V-and-Z-series/new-disk-partioning-and-one-key-recover-fea...
    http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Linux-Discussion/Factory-Windows-7-partitions/td-p/535363
    https://help.ubuntu.com/community/forum/installation/Partitioning
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disk_partitioning
Ideally, what I would like is to have a partition of 80Gb for Windows, a partition of 80Gb for Ubuntu, a large partition for data that Ubuntu and Windows can share, plus whatever other partitions Lenovo and OKR need.
Having read through the above forums plus other information regarding partitions, I've come to understand the following things:
That OKR will not work if I make any changes to any of the partitions.
That a hard-disk drive can only have maximum 4 primary partitions or 3 primary partitions and an extended partition.
That the extended partition may in turn be subdivided into several logical partitions.
That Windows must be installed on a primary partition with the boot files.
That Ubuntu can be installed on a primary or a logical partition.
Are all of the above correct?
    If so, my questions are:
If I resize and create new partitions, is there no way that I can re-run OKR and create new back-ups?  I'm guessing OKR will not work if I resize now but then run into problems during Ubuntu installation.  But assuming I resize and install Ubuntu successfully, can I then get OKR to work, recognising the new partitions, and create new back-ups?
I currently have three primary partitions (a hidden tiny hidden system one, I assume for recovery, the large C: with Windows, the logical partition, D: Lenovo with Lenovo progam files and drivers, and a hidden "LENOVO_PART" partition which I assume is where OKR creates some sort of system image...)  Does that mean that I already have 3 primary partitions and one extended partition, which is also one logical partition, or is the second partition an extended partition subdivided into the primary C: and the logical D:?
I can live without OKR as I can use alternative programs to make back-ups.  But it would be nice to have it.
My main concern is how I can safely resize to accommodate a drive for Ubuntu and a large data drive.
    I'm thinking of two paths:
First is to downsize the C: drive to 80Gb, then create an extended partition with the space and divide that into two logical partitions, one for ubuntu and one for data.  But the fact that the D: Lenovo partition is already logical confuses me...
The other is to merge the C: drive with the D: drive, then create an extended partition with the two logical partitions (ubuntu and data).  I'm afraid this way I might ruin the Lenovo programs and drivers...
Sorry for this lengthy post but I want to show that I've tried researching it but I'm stuck....  Any advice at all?  Any advice would be very much appreciated.  Thanks

I just installed Linux mint, which is based on ubuntu, on my Z560 here.  You can keep One Key Recovery functional if you want to, but there is a bit of work to do and you need several items to accomplish it.  In my case I am working to setup a triple-boot system of w7, mint and eCS 21 (OS/2) here, so my requirements are stricter than any as eCS isn't happy with the way w7 created the partitions on my 500G drive and I had to rework that first.
I first booted w7 and did the initial setup followed by creating the Factory Default Recovery DVDs for the system.  I then booted my DFSee CD and used it to change the type of the recovery partition from 12 to 07 to permit w7 to access it.  I rebooted w7 and used the disk management feature to shrink all four of the factory partitions to suit my needs.  I then booted DFSee again to change the type of the recovery partition back and confirmed OKR function with resized partitions.  I then created the current system recovery DVDs for the system.
At this point I needed to deal with the partitioning issues.  So I booted DFSee again, changed the recovery partition back to 07 again and made images of that partition and the D: partition on external storage, as I had found out earlier that the current system recovery DVD appears to only address the C: drive.  I then deleted all the existing partitions and recreated them in a form acceptable to eCS, being sure to keep them in the same order in the partition tables and on the drive as w7 had them but consolidating them to place all of the free space in the logical partition after the D: drive and before the recovery partition.  I then used the current system recovery DVD to reload the now acceptable C: drive and then restored the D: and recovery partitions from their images.
I then created the logical partitions I needed to install eCS and mint on the drive.
In your case I believe you could simply use w7 to resize things, create the current system recovery DVDs to deal with any failures, and then use DFSee or other tool to move the existing partitions where you want them.  Once this is done confirm w7 and the OKR system still works and then go ahead and install ubuntu in the free space you created.
    Dave
PS: the small initial primary partition is the w7 boot manager and appears to be handled with the C: drive.  The OKR makes use of the larger primary at the end of the drive marked as type 12 as opposed to 07 in the partition table.  All partitions are formatted NTFS.

  • Lenovo IdeaPad U410 - PowerButton Flashing LED

I have removed Battery and CMOS battery to trouble shoot this U410 which often will not POST.
If I plug in the AC power supply I press the power button very briefly it flashes on and off a few times.
Press to turn off then press again and it comes on and stays on, then it WILL POST and I get the expected:
    CMOS battery failure
FI to continue, F2 to enter set up…..
F1 and it boots normally into Windows 7 but of course the date and time are way off…..
Can someone tell me what is happeneing when the Power Button LED flashes on and off?? Whatever it is..it is clearing the block to this thing POSTing..will always POST after this...

That really doesn't indicate much of anything as there are no light error codes for your model.  The light is just an indication that the machine is trying to boot up before shutting down.
You might try stripping all the hardware out of the laptop and then see if the boot up is any different with and without the CMOS battery installed.  Remove the hard drive, optical drive, wireless card and bluetooth if it is installed. If you have more than one memory module try them one at a time and in different slots.

  • Lenovo Ideapad Yoga 13 Recovery Issues

I'm very disappointed from Lenovo for producing Laptop without complete recovery solution.
I mistakely formated the hard drive of Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 13, so I lost the recovery, so I called Contact Centre and they pointed me to Jumbo Electronics Company in Abu Dhabi of which are aotherized to do services for Lenovo. I went to them to save time, and get my laptop back to the initial state of which I bought, instead of getting the original state of how I bought the laptop which was:
    1. Windows 8.1 Single Language.
    2. All Drivers are Installed.
    3. At Start-Up, I should be getting to put in my sync account while it's preparing windows for first use.
    I got the following:
    1. Windows 8 Single Language installed. (Not 8.1)
    2. Drivers are installed.
    3. Recovery is supposed to be back.
    4. Local User Account "Lenovo" was created.
OK, Skip it, it's fine. I thought about trying to do recovery to make sure of the recovery working before I do back up of it, here is what I got:
    1. Windows 8 Single Language Installed (Not 8.1)
    2. Not all drivers are installed (For ex. Wireless Driver which is very important for this laptop since no LAN no other connection except wireless)
So I thought they gave me the non-original recovery because of the missing drivers which was not believable to me.
I contacted "Service Centre for IdeaPad Within UAE" ended up telling me that that was the original copy of the Recovery and Yes, it does not Install the Wireless Drivers! And that he himself tried it at his side and confirms it!
Can somebody explain to me how come that I paid for recovery to recover the laptop to the initial state and I did not get the real initial state of the laptop?
How come at the service centre they don't tell me "Warning" about the wireless and that I have to download and back-up the drivers before doing the recovery of the laptop?
How come actually Lenovo produces a laptop with recovery missing drivers?
VERY DISAPPOINTING! VERY ANGRY AT LENOVO! If I CAN RETURN THE LAPTOP AND BUY FROM DIFFERENT BRAND, I WOULD DO SO!
BIOS FEATURES ARE POOR NO BOOTING FROM SD CARD AVAILABLE!
WIRELESS IS POOR IN QUALITY WHILE ITS THE ONLY AND MAIN CONNECTION FOR THE LAPTOP!
Simply you are SELLING half Quality Products, WORST RECOVERY SOLUTIONS EVER! AND EXPENSIVE FOR NOTHING!
VERY DISAPPOINTED AT LENOVO PRODUCTS FROM THE FIRST IMPRESSION OF LENOVO IDEAPAD YOGA 13!

I have the same problem.  If I continually power cycle the machine (either via CTRL-ALT-DEL or the switch) combined with either plugging or unplugging it from power I can eventually get it to boot up.  No idea how to fix it yet.  I noticed that the fan doesnt seem to be running when it doesn't boot and it is almost like it has to "warm up" or something before it will boot to the hard drive.  Any fixes would be greatly appreciated.

    final edit:
Apparently there is no support for sli on mobile nvidia gpu. Thank you ever so much Nvidia, you willf orever hold a special place in my heart..
I've miracously gotten everything else to work. Only thing left is enabling sli, which I haven't been able to.
As far as I know, I've follow the instruction to the letter, but all I get i a black screen and a log with no particular useful information that I can find:

I've been googling around for answers, but the closest thing I've come to an answer, and I do hope it isn't true, is that sli om mobile nvidia gpu is not supported under linux. I've been unable to confirm this.
I do hope you can help.
    Best regards.

    Do not do this.
If you want help, start providing relevant information beyond "it don't work".  You say you followed the instructions ... which instructions?  What steps did you take?  It is clear from your xorg.conf that you did not follow the only instructions I could find in the archlinux wiki.  Follow those instructions, and post the output of the relevant diagnostic or information-gathering steps included there.
Also if you have information which could be useful - such as which mobile devices/cards allegedly don't work - then share that.  Don't keep us in the dark.
I should think that it's quite obvious that I've followed the wiki instruction, which basically is one line in xorg, as is the official nvidia instructions.
This is most likely a problem related specificlally to the gt 650m and/or the lenovo ideapad y500 (and perhaps derivatives thereof).
I do not believe I've left any information out.
Of course if I've done something wrong, I apologize and will do my best to avoid it in the future. As for the rest, I'd very much like to know which instructions I did not follow, as I've done all that I can think of and telling me that I haven't is hardly useful. As far as I aware, the wiki instructs you to  ad two line in the xorg.conf, which I've done. I will of course read it again, hoping to figure out what I've apparently missed, though I've read it so many times already that I don't expect to learn anything.

  • Problem with sound in lenovo ideapad u 350

    @unick,
Have you tried doing a factory restore? Did you have this issue when you first have the laptop? I understand you wrote that this issue came after 2 weeks? Is there any antivirus software which you have installed? Appreciate if you could try a factory recovery first if you haven't done so.

  • I can't accessed system recovery options after the repairing process was interrupted.

although it's not my PC, i'm still concern about it (it's actually a public computer in our library). I actually tried to repair it using the system recovery options of windows 7 with thinkvantage technoliogies  but i interrupt it because maybe someone will caught me and i will be mistakenly be liable. and the result is after i restared it, it restarts over and over again, with BSOD appearing for a split second. i tried to use disable autorestart on system failure feature, and i saw the BSOD. but the real issue is i can't go through the recovery options, only until the part when i'm asked to select a keyboard input method, then the next part is this message: "You must log in to access System Recovery Options. If you are having trouble logging in, please contact your computer administrator for assistance. Click OK to restart the computer." anyway, this is the BSOD says:
A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:
Disable or uninstall any anti-virus disk defragmentation  or backup utilities. Check your hard drive configuration, and check for any updated drivers. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer.

I hope this problem will be solved as much as possible.  thank you in advance. and i also don't know what model of this Lenovo all-in-one PC is. but i think this is 3318F9U, and its i forgot its BIOS version, and i don't know how to access it. and also, i'm not sure if there's a preloaded Superfish in this all-in-one PC, maybe the vulnerability started it. because i recently read an article regarding the Superfish's vulnerability.

  • Lenovo IdeaPad Y500, expand with ssd

Hello Im from the Netherlands. i have a question. I want to buy the Lenovo IdeaPad Y Series Y500-00619. but it doenst have a ssd it only has a hdd 1tb. Now is my question does this notebook have a extra place for a ssd? Or do i need to replace the hdd with the ssd. I want to have a larger ssd (around 120gb) in it and have a hdd in it for music .....  S

    Hi
Yes, Any Brand would do but most of the users here recommends Crucial
    go here http://www.crucial.com/upgrade/Lenovo-memory/IdeaPad/IdeaPad+Y500-upgrades.html
and click the "Show all compatible Solid State Drives" and you will find an option Crucial M500 120GB mSATA Internal SSD
You warranty will remain as it is, even if you replace, upgrade some parts of the system.
Opening the computer and adding parts does not affect the warranty, only damages during the upgrade/replacement will not be covered.
Just be extra careful while replacing the parts or opening the computer.

  • Will Windows 7 damage rescue & recovery option?

I have installed Windows 7 on my X300 which is running XP. I can boot into XP or Windows 7 but pressing the ThinkVantage button just gives me the option to choose boot device (as F12), BIOS config or normal boot - no recovery option.
As it is a second hand system, I don't know if it worked before I installed Win 7 but I now recall that I had a similar problem on a Lenovo that I installed Linux on. It seems quite possible that installing a new OS with its boot manager could affect the R&R partition.
Have others had the same problem?

    Long time ThinkPad user: 770, 600, T40, X300, now X301 240gb SSD, 8 GB ram (love it! :-)) Windows 7 64 bit.

I do not think it can be done.
If anyone knows how, they might get a ton of kudos!
A good method is to get a external HD, and use Win 7's built in
disk imaging software to back up to external.
You could use a partition on the internal HD, but that is not as disaster proof.
If you have NO intention of getting Vista back in the future, you can
re-partition the HD when installing Win 7.
If you want to have that option, create recovery disks in Vista, and then
install Win 7 in the same C:\ partition as Vista. Don't resize partition!
Rescue button will not work, but you will be able to recover Vista from recovery disks.

  • Lenovo ideapad u510 w/Fedora 19 Live USB black screen

I am having difficulty with a new lenovo ideapad u510. I am attempting to install Fedora 19 using the Fedora 19 xfce spin Live USB image, and the drive boots properly, but upon selecting the option to start Fedora 19 Live, I get a gray screen with a cursor on the top left, then two error messages that look almost idential to each other flash by, the Fedora logo starts to load, and then the screen goes blank.
The part of the error message that I was able to make out was "...failed to enable the AA(?????)"
I have attempted to turn the monitor back on using the F9 key's alternate function, and I have tried booting from DVD with the same result. Once the screen goes blank, it stays that way until I force the machine to shut down. Once I've forced the shutdown, the computer, upon turning back on, goes to the blank screen again without even loading the lenovo BIOS screen. Even the 'novo' button will not load any options for me.
My UEFI is set to Legacy / Legacy First, although the EFI setting is still Windows 8, with no alternate options. I've looked all through my settings in every tab of the BIOS and I can't find anything further to disable secure boot.
Is anybody able to assist me in installing Fedora?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Follow up:
I have tried more flavors of linux, and over the course of doing that, I have discovered that after choosing to boot a linux live disk, the screen does not instantly go black as I had thought with the Fedora installation, but rather is reduced to 1/4 the physical size of the screen for a few seconds, then goes blank. After it goes blank, apparently, the live OS continues to load, as evidenced by the loading .wav sounds that play even after the screen is blank.
More and more I'm convinced that the graphics hardware is causing problems, but the lenovo site is completely silent about the specifics of the graphics, saying only that the hardware is nvidia GeForce series.

I solved the problem with a newer install disc
    It's sda now.
I finished the installation succesfully and also installed grub.
But after the bios was started I can only see a white cursor and arch doesn't boot.
After some research it seems that my notebook doesn't boot properly without the recovery partition which I already deleted.
What can I do? I didn't create any recovery cds and the partition is gone.

  • Need help with installing Ubuntu on Lenovo Ideapad Z500.

I just bought a new Lenovo Ideapad Z500 yesterday. It came with Windows 8 pre-installed. Now, I also want to install Ubuntu over it. The disk is partitioned as follows:
    Disk C: - 880 GB (approx)
Disk D: - 30 GB (approx) (I don't remember exact partition, as my laptop is currently at my home).
Then I thought, I would better re-partition the C drive into 1 or 2 small drives. So, I shrinked the C drive by going into "Disk Management", and then created 3 more partitions - 240 GB * 2, 300 GB * 1, and left the C drive with 100 GB space. I didn't modified the D drive.
Till then I didn't went through any infomation over internet. But, now when I went through this forum, I found out that my OKR won't work now, that I still have to confirm when I go home. So, now I'm worried. I scanned through so many post here, and no where found a way to install Ubuntu on Ideapad Z500.
I also read that it will be possible to run OKR, if I can re-store the partition to it's original. I think this can be done, since I just have to remove the volume I created, and allocate the memory back to C drive. And it will be back to original state, as I didn't modify D drive (correct me if am wrong, or if it can't happen).
So, the major question that I want to ask is, is there no way to partition my disk, and install Ubuntu in one of them.

    hi rohitjain-rj,
    Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.
On a Z400 Touch running on Windows 8 preload, shrinking the the C-Drive under Disk Management and creating multiple partitions on the unallocated space and then reverting the partition back to original made the One Key Recovery work as normal - haven't tested this yet on the Z500 as there's no available unit but chances are, it may also work.
In installing Ubuntu, have you tried to install Ubuntu via Wubi ?
If Ubuntu doesn't start, boot into the BIOS (press the OKR button > select BIOS Setup Utility) and set the following:
    Boot Tab
    Boot Mode - Legacy Support
    Boot Priority - Legacy First
    Exit Tab
OS Optimized Defaults - Other OS
    Regards.

  • "Your PC's CPU isn't compatible with Windows 8". How to turn on XD flag on IdeaPad z570 BIOS?

When I attempt to UPGRADE (not a clean install) from Windows 7 sp1 to Windows 8 Release Preview, the installer halts and shows the message "Your PC's CPU isn't compatible with Windows 8.".  In searching for a resolution to this, some people have had success in avoiding this error and successfully installing Windows 8 by turning on the XD setting in the computer's BIOS security tab.  My Lenovo z570 Intel i7 BIOS version 45CN47WW does not display this setting and so I cannot change it.  How can I change it?  I found comments on Lenovo's site that ThinkPad laptops BIOS had been updated to be able to switch this xd flag on, but found nothing for the IdeaPad z570 BIOS.
A work around was to use a different installer: the setup.exe located in the sources folder of the Windows 8 install cd/usb drive.  This installer does not check for the xd to be on.  But I will need to set my Lenovo laptop's xd flag on when the final version of Windows 8 is released.

Could be too that things will be different in the final version with the NX bit setting than in the ctp. Nice that there is a workaround available :-) for the tech preview.
