Lenovo Isn't Responsible For Driver Support?

I was really surprised by a note I received from product support at Lenovo. I purchased an S10e with Novell SLED 10 SP2 preinstalled at the factory. Novell tells me they don't support the drivers on this computer, and that Lenovo would be the one that provides driver support.
Now here's the wierd part, the letter I received from support informs me that Lenovo does not provide driver support for  this OS on their own computer?!?!?!
To say that I was stunned would be an understatement. I have never heard of a computer manufacturer not providing driver support for software that they installed on their own product. Is this something new for Lenovo? Is it a peculiarity associated with Linux installations?
I have kicked it back to  support again and have requested that further research be done on the question. It sounded like an odd policy, if true.

There should have been some kind of agreement signed back in the day when Lenovo bought Suse to put on their laptops for sale, that said which party was responsible for ongoing support of the drivers.  How this works, who knows?  I also would imagine there were caveats when the laptop was sold that certain hardware wasn't and never would be supported, like winmodems, or third party PCMCIA cards or something.
That said, what exact hardware isn't supported?  That's why the forum's here, so we can all help you help yourself and then you don't have to spend all that time nailing jello to a tree trying to get one commercial party or another to say they'll support your hardware.

  • Lenovo G500 Lack of driver support

    Greetings! I would to ask more attention for Driver Support!I'm not entirely satisfied with driver support although the product is good thats why i did choose Lenovo. I know this is not the newest series by Lenovo but still you should support. (other series as well)The latest Video, audio driver is from 2013! So this is the way where Lenovo must be improve to satisfy product users! Regards,Robert

    I had a really hard time when they were working on the laptop (or thinking about it).  I was using as borrowed laptop, and the pictures were sent to a non-persistent laptop.  Remember, they kept the laptop so long (3 weeks) that I had to buy a W510 to be able to continue working.  So, to answer your question, I cannot find the pictures.
    The pictures did not tell me anything, as it was hard to see the substance they were implying was there.  In my research, it appears that both the W500 and the W510 have heat problems, so I think they are finding innovative ways to get out of fulfilling their obligation to service the warranty.

  • S205 :Sad with Lenovo Driver support for Win 8

    Sorry for my bad english, but I need to tell you my frustrating experience.
    Due to low cost new windows 8 OS 64bit, I buy a lincense for mine Lenovo S205, conforted with some new Driver updated for 8 on Lenovo site.
    I saw something strange in the Driver's page for ex. the wireless driver is called Cybertan\LiteOn and we have a Ralink RT 3090 wifi module.(or in some market Atheros AR9285)... Hummm realy strange.
    I cross my fingers, I pray god and I start downloadin ALL the driver and start upgrading my system.
    At restart I have my new Win8 64bit system and thank of god the most important driver (Ralink wifi) was autodetected and recognized by Win8  whitout install the strange Cybertan\LiteOn from Lenovo that doubt was working in a ralink device.
    But at this point strarts the big issues with the unrecognized devices, that tahnks of god were less than expected but drivers fron Lenovo site were all wrong !!!!! Yes wrong, it seems a joke but was the true,
    I think,(to tell the true I'm sure) no one from Lenovo tech checked the drivers in a S205 models, and I can explain why with the above sad experience:
    - SOUND: windows only install generic HD drivers and the sound quality as expected was crappy. So I try the lenovo driver Conexant but it does not properly work, SmatAudio icon in the ControlPannel was not present, no conexant pannel to manage sound, and nothing changed, windows continue with is own generym Microsoft HD drivers. I remeber that Lenovo model U300S and U300E have the same soundcard I dowload their Conexant Win8 driver (with a different number so I hope it was teh latest) and my idea was great, the Conexant U300 driver works on my S205 lenovo and Win8 detect the conexant soundcard and SmartAudio is present and working. There is only a isse concerning SRS Sound that is present on my system but if I try to lounch nothing appens, so I think is not correctly working. But so far so god sound is better than before with generic MS drivers, but to do so I have to choose a different driver from a different Lenovo pc, not an easy step for a normal user.
    - OSD: on screen display (FN+F keys) in 7 they was insert in the Lenovo Energy Mnagement, so to works you need to instal it. I make the same in win 8 with the new Lenovo Energy Management provides by Lenovo site, Lenovo Energy Management is working but OSD no !!!!
    Windows 8 detect and show you in autonomy soud level and brightnes when you press FN+Arrow keys ant that are the most important but ALL the FN+F Keys are not showed on screen even if probably they are working (for ex. Fn+F6 correctly enabel1disable touchpad) but not icon showen on screen !! Well I can leave without OSD but once again seems Lenovo don't try EnergyManagement on a Win8 pc.
    - CARD READER: Windows detect and unknow device called USB CRW and I though correctly was the card reader, in fact I try a sd and win8 was not able to read it. So I install the Realtek CardReader downloaded from Lenovo site, It was extracted and installed but I don't know why the driver seems bugged, the pattern contains only some icon but not exe ord driver, in fact the Card reader even if I try the driver more times it was not decetced. I tryed the old Windows 7 driver for my S205 and thank of god it was working and now my cardreader is detected and working. Once angain the win8 driver provided by Lenovo fails and I need the oldest win 7 driver that maks the job.
    - TOUCHPAD: Synaptics touchpad was detected by windows 8 but all the basic features as the scrolling or 2 fingers was not working. So I try the Synaptics drivers provided by Lenovo and it was only for 32bit system even if is clearly showed as 32 and 64bit driver. The driver itself promp me that is not working on a 64bit system and i need to contact the producer :-(
    Hahahaha very hilarious so I have to download the driver from Synaptics server that is so slow that I need 2 hours to finaly have my touchpad driver. Once again an epic fail from lenovo site.
    CONCLUSION: Lenovo is the new n.1 pc producer in the world but it seems realy not professional when check his drivers and public it on the website. Could be s205 is the cheapest and not business line notebook but ... I am realy sad whit the way Lenovo put new drivers without any preventive control in the homesite driver's page.
    It seems it was a lottery, extracting a number and put the corresponding driver on the S205 drivers page :-(
    Sir this is not the good behaviour, is the bast way to loose users !!!! Very disappointed, very sad and I hope this post can help S205 users taht want use the new Windows 8 system to catch the correct solutions
    I hope too some Lenovo developers can read this, try win8 on a s205 notebook and solve all the problems, because even if I solve with my 20 years pc experience all the issue, still remais some problems as SRS Sound seems not working (if It can work on our system, but if it can't why put in on our s205 driver too) and no OSD for every FN keys working.
    There are not present some utility for win 8 as for example the CAPSLOCK keys utility that was present for 7 but not for 8 (I have to try if the older work on 8) or the Lenovo OneKey that seems not ready for 8..
    So far so good winodws 8 works great on S205 and is a good choice if you catch the correct drivers as I explain here.
    Hoping this help Lenovo not making the same mistakes in the future, and learn from their errors.
    Once angain sorry for my language mistake but I'm not English
    Hore this post can help in some case

    Hi Romagnolo1973!
    Thank you for posting all the things you learned, and how you got your S205 working with Windows 8! Hopefully this will help others.
    To be fair to Lenovo, they list Windows 8 as not supported on the S205.

    As you found, it is sometimes possible to work around the problems and get things working to your satisfaction!

  • Sierra Wireless driver for native support for 10.5 displays wrong network

    Anyone getting the wrong wireless network with the Sierra Wireless driver for native support in Leopard? Sometimes when my AT&T 881u cannot connect, the mini card starts displaying Verizon information. This only happens once every couple of weeks. AT&T says its Sierra Wireless' problem and Sierra says the issue is Apple's.
    I took a picture of the issue with my iPhone. I'll post a link as soon as I get a chance to sync.
    This card normally works great, but this issue is really strange since AT&T G3 network shouldn't be compatible with Verizon's EVDO.

    That model is included in the hpijs and ESP ghostscript driver set:

    When you get that installed, come back with print server model for setup help. Since there isn't auto setup software for OS X, we need to setup all the details.

  • Windows 7 64bit driver support for GX623

    Hi, i have GX623 laptop (CPU:Intel Core 2 Duo P8400; RAM: 4GB ), i am interested why there is no Windows 7 64bit driver support for this model ? I really would like to run some 64bit software on it.
    If my laptop hardware support it why MSI don't release drivers so my software can also support it. In some 32bit drivers there are some 64bit drivers but still not all for complete functionality.
    On some older posts from 2009 I see responses that windows 7 64bit is very new so that's the reason for no driver support but in 2011 surely that is not the case.
    Can we expect 64bit drivers for Windows 7 in near future or support for 64bit software isn't planed for this model?

    So is it officially GX623 supported for Windows 64bit install because I still don't see any drivers for Windows 7 64bit or maybe Windows 7 64bit don't need any drivers?
    Hello anybody here? Anybody working here?

  • Printer Driver Support for Computers Running Windows 8 Release Preview

    Printer driver support for computers running Windows 8 Release Preview
    HP is working to help customers have the best experience with HP printers connected to PCs running the final release of Windows 8. The pre-release time is a development period when HP develops and tests printer driver solutions. HP’s current plan is for Windows 8 compatible printers to be available when the new operating system is released to the public. HP is working with Microsoft to include drivers in the Windows 8 operating system for HP printers introduced in recent years.
    There may be a variety of sources for a printer driver/solution for your HP printer on a computer running Windows 8 Release Preview.
    inOS:
    An in-Operating System (inOS) driver is a basic driver that is included within the operating system. You do not need to download or install any software from HP. Windows 8 Relase Preview contains several inOS drivers. If an inOS driver is available for your printer, you will have at least basic print capability with USB and Network and basic scan capability with USB only (if your printer supports scanning).
    Windows Update:
    There might be a more functional or more up-to-date driver available for your printer through Microsoft Windows Update. If Windows Update is enabled, then the Windows Update process activates automatically when you connect (USB and Network connections) the printer to the computer. It searches online for the most recent print driver on the Windows Update site. If the online driver is more functional than the currently installed driver in Windows 8, the computer downloads and installs this driver.
    HP Supplied Printer Driver/Solutions:
    Although HP does not formally support any pre-release versions of Windows Operating Systems, including Windows 8 Release Preview, we may supply some full functionality drivers* prior to the official release of Windows 8. These drivers may be supplied as a courtesy to our valued HP customers through this Support Forum, though no formal support will be available otherwise. We welcome feedback within these support forums. Please check back for further updates as the official release of Windows 8 approaches.
    * Full feature drivers provide full product functionality, plus valuable software to help you get the most out of your printer.

  • LabVIEW RT driver support for CEI-620?

    Hi All,
    I am using PXI-8106 to run heavy-duty communication and one chasis holds the CEI-620 card (third party ARINC429 card from GE, formerly Condor Engineering).  Currently  on the PXI controller only runs LabVIEW RT (Pharlap) since I did not want to install Windows OS to slow the performance.  Now here it is the problem, GE does not provide LabVIEW RT driver support for CEI-620 (they do have LabVIEW RT support for CEI-830 though, but that card is PMC interface). Basically right now MAX can not recognize the CEI-620 card on the host side, and I can not deploy my ARINC429 application VI to the target PXI controller. I am wondering anybody here has encountered the same problem and develop the LabVIEW RT driver for CEI-620 on his own?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    Unfortunately I don't have much more information to offer.  I would suggest checking to make sure you have all the correct device information whe you create the ini file.  I think you should still be able to develop a driver for a poll based device.  It should be easier to generate an ini file if you do not require interrupt information.  Make sure you have the correct identification information and try using the VISA Driver Development Wizard again.

  • Are there any sound cards with best driver support for Arch?

    I was wondering if there are any sound cards that have the best driver support for ArchLinux? I currently own a Creative Labs X-FI Platinum Edition. The main reason I like the Platinum is that has an interface you can plug MIDI and Audio ports into. It seems to me, however, that Creative is the worst company to support Linux drivers. If anyone has any opinions, please feel free to comment. According to all my research, ALSA sound drivers are the most supportive for sound. Am I also correct in this assumption?

    yeah, creative sucks. go with m-audio. they support linux unlike creative.

  • JDBC Thin Driver Support for Data Encryption and Integrity

    Hello JDev Team,
    I am trying to implement JDBC Thin Driver Support for Data Encryption and Integrity.
    It works fine with java.sql.Connection and java.util.Properties like in the following code:
    DriverManager.registerDriver(new oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver());
    Properties props = new Properties();
    int level = AnoServices.REQUIRED;
    props.put("oracle.net.encryption_client", Service.getLevelString(level));
    props.put("oracle.net.encryption_types_client", "( RC4_40 )");
    props.put("oracle.net.crypto_checksum_client",Service.getLevelString(level));
    props.put("oracle.net.crypto_checksum_types_client", "( MD5 )");
    Connection conn = DriverManager.getConnection ("jdbc:oracle:thin:@localhost:1521:main", props);
    etc...
    But I am developing an application with InfoSwing components and it has a different way to connect to Oracle database using oracle.dacf.dataset.connections.Connection, like this:
    sessionInfo1.setAppModuleInfo(new ModuleInfo("bc", "BcModule"));
    sessionInfo1.setConnectionInfo(new LocalConnection("JDBCThin"));
    sessionInfo1.publishSession();
    My question is:
    Is there any way to implement DataEncryption and Integrity into this type of connection?
    Thanks a lot in advance.
    Victor Bykov

    Victor,
    No, you can't do this from DAC, but I've been discussing it with the developer, and we both think this capability would be useful to have, so I've logged it as an enhancement request.
    I do have a question for you. Once you've made the JDBC connection, do you need access to the Connection object afterwards? We're thinking of how the change could be implemented, and one way would be to allow you to pass in a Properties object when creating your own NamedConnection.
    Thanks
    Blaise

  • Need Chipset Driver for USB support

    Hi.
    This Windows XP-SP3 PC has 4xUSB2 or 2xUSB3 on-board ports, and all have failed. All USB devices are yellow-flagged in device manager.
    I have run SFC \SCANNOW and it runs to completion, and I have tried right-clicking on a yellow-flagged USB entry in Device Manager and selecting Update Driver, but that only results in the following dialog:
    Cannot Install This Hardware
    There was a problem installing this hardware:
    Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller
    An error occurred during the installation of the device:
    The driver installation file for this device is missing a necessary entry. This may be because the INF file was written for Windows 95 or later. Contact your hardware vendor stop
    It has been suggested to me that I should try to obtain the Chipset Driver for USB support. Running Speccy reveals the following about the mainboard:

  • Creative Driver Support for X-Fi WTF?

    Is it just me or is Creative not trying hard enough to enable the features of their X-Fi line-up for Vista? I just saw the March Release for the drivers and yet again like 5 key features still don't work? For me this is irritating since I rely on my desktop audio for my home theater system. Is anyone else just a little ticked at Creative's response to Vista? It's been awhile since I've bought from a company that couldn't give good driver support.....

    I'm not sure about other companies so far all my drivers are fine ATi, Asus, hell even logitech just got their G5 Keyboard Driver out, but Creative still thinks it's acceptable to deli'ver a product without proper driver support, let's remember vista has been around for 6 YEARS, though maybe in beta many companies got their Vista drivers out instantly such as ATi, there is no excuse for poor support especially from a Behemoth like Creative, they have the money they have the time, the fact that it hasn't been done is testiment that they don't give a **bleep** about people who truly use their X-Fi cards to their full capabilities. This obviously is not their top priority to support these products, hopefully this poor support will come to their attention as for me if there was an alternati've card I could buy with support I probably will buy it if Creative can't get their act together very soon. Like I said earlier I use my audio card for everything, SPDIF in and out decoding, gaming, xbox 360 nintendo Wii, and the without the few good functions needed that Creative doesn't quite have yet my entertainment center is crippled you dont spend 00's of dollars on a product to not get the support.
