Lenovo L420 THINKPAD starts with a constant long beeping sound for atleast 1 min.

From few days my laptop starts with a long beeping sound for atleast more than 1 min, then comes a boot order option. I have no idea whats wrong with it,last time when it happened i had to change my harddisk. Guys anyone with expert ideas please help me,and as fast possible.

Nope. Not using a dock at all. I have to mention tho', that the machine already visited an authorized service. The motherboard was replaced, because it didn't recognise the power brick and refused to charge the laptop.
I'm guessing they didn't put it back together properly. Since I posted I checked the cpu / gpu temps and the cpu temps rise to 80-90 C just when I do a simple operation like delete a larger folder. I tried to turn on bluetooth to copy some stuff from my phone yesterday and for some reason it acted like i pressed fn+f4.  Went to sleep. I pressed fn+f5 just for the record, but after a few times doing this, I found that no matter what fn combo I press it goes to sleep. I have to press the power button again to bring it back. Started playing piano on the rest of the keyboard and same thing. Going to sleep. The lcd went in off mode and disappeared from both the bios and device manager. I was back at square one again seeing my desktop only on the external monitor.
I suspect the tech guys who fixed it didn't put something back right + the fact that the cpu is so hot lets me believe that the thermal paste was not applied right.
I still don't get why all the hardware self test pass. Maybe I should do a stress test? Or should I just send it back to service?

How do I get this feature working again? I am reluctant to move to iTunes 10.7 because I don't trust Apple at the moment.

    My suggestion:
    1) Always using MAC AIR with the power plug in.
2)Don' let the power level of battory fall under 30% percentage.
3)If the MAC can't be recharged now, just let it be with power plugged, WAIT...

  • IPhoto 9 plus all photos in finder are making constant fast beep sounds, flashing & frozen.  What happened

Few days ago Mac Mail started making fast, loud, continuous beeping sounds while I was writing a long document. The Mail program started flashing, "vibrating," and froze. I had to force quit and lost that email (right - I should have saved it, but didn't).  I tried to re-create the document in Pages and the same thing happened.  Then I tried to recreate it in Word.  Same thing. (may sound nuts to just keep trying new programs, but this was an urgent document.  Figured I could get it done, then focus on fixing the problem)
When I finally got things working again by re-starting multiple times and using Disk Utility, I evenutally opened iPhoto. After working with that program for several hours, I tried to use "share, "which creates an email with a jpeg. The same beeping and flashing started again. I had to shut down the computer. Next day everything seemed OK.  No problems for 3 days.
Tonight I was working with several programs, all doing fine.  Then I opened iPhoto and it immediately started the fast beeping and wouldn't let me access any of my MANY photos. Had to force quit. So I tried to access photos I saved in Finder.  Every saved photo (I have hundreds in Finder) would beep and flash continuously when I clicked on it's icon, even without opening it.
I can't find anything online about this situation. Some articles and forums talk about 3 beeps having a certain meaning. That's not what this is. It's continuous loud rhythmic beeps, flashing and I can barely shut down the program when that's going on.
Background: right before this started, my HD was very full and giving me warnings, so I deleted numerous file.  It's possible I could have deleted something that should NOT have been deleted. I also started in PRAM mode.  If I deleted something, I don't know how to tell what's missing. Also, iPhoto is very full and gave me warnings not to add photos. My Mac is 5 years old and running pretty fast. I installed Mountain Lion several months ago.
Has anyone experienced this? Help!! I don't want to lose my photos!

Running with a very full HD is very, very bad.
OS X needs about 10 gigs of hard drive space for normal OS operations - things like virtual memory, temporary files and so on. Without this space your Mac will slow down as the OS hunts for space on the disk, files will be fragmented, also slowing things down, apps will crash and the risk of data corruption - that is damage to your files, photos, music - increases exponentially.
Then, frankly, telling us you deleted "numerous file" but don't know what you deleted, really means that we can't help.
It's very likely that your Library is damaged from being run on an overfull disk. But you'll need at least as muh disk space again for repair it.
So, you need to get an external HD or two, move some data off that machine to make room. You may also need to reinstall your OS as you're not sure what you have deleted. After you've got your Os working you can try fix iPhoto.

  • My iPhone 4s no longer has sound for any of the applications but it does have sound for phone functions.  Where is the setting for app sound?  I have gone to the multitask screen and the volume bar is empty.

I recently found my phone outside in light rain (it had been there about 20 minutes).  It had some glitches at first, however after letting it rest overnight it seemed to mostly recover.  The one problem I am having is that I no longer have sound for any of my applications.  I do have sound for phone fuctions, and I am able to use the speaker for phone functions.
When I am in my applications, including music/videos, the only way I can hear is if I use my earbuds.  I am able to make a video and it will record sound just fine.
When I go to the multitask screen, the volume bar is empty and I cannot adjust it using the side buttons (even though in settings I have that feature activated). I completely reset all of my settings tonight and that did not make a difference.
Is there a setting I am missing, or am I just SOL?  I am trying to avoid having to get a whole new phone but it is very frustrating to not have sound with my applications.

  • Long beep sound in UCS C220 Server

    Hello All,
We have recently upgraded our CM server from MCS to UCS C220. All is working well since 3 weeks. However, since the past three days the UCS server is giving long beep sounds. In the CIMC console its showing as Severe Fault and in Storage Slot 1 and physical Drive 2, the status is "Foreign Configuration" and Health status is "Moderate Fault". However, when we check the status of the light on  the physical drive, its still green and not amber. So is it there a problem with the Harddrive?
    Pls find the screenshot attached.

Hey there. I don't think you'll get a reply on this forum because it looks like this is a fault on the UCS server itself, and not on the Unified Communication application that runs on the UCS server. Please re-post this discussion to the board which discusses UCS servers. You'll get a reply there.

  • Long beeping sounds during iPhone 4s calls

Often when I am on calls longer than 5 minutes I hear a long beeping sound, almost like someone is pushing a button.  Does anyone why this is happening and how to fix it I have a 4s?

Is this with all calls when using a headset or just some?
If some perhaps there's a second call trying to get through & it's notifying you there's another call waiting or if it's a Bluetooth headset maybe it's telling that it requires charging.

  • Macbook not starting up after water spill - beeping sounds

I was cleaning the keyboard with water while it was turned off and accidently spilt about 50-100ml of water onto the keyboard, also accidently turning the computer onto sleep mode at one point. I tried cleaning up the water by letting it drain, but it started coming out of the sides of the computer. That's when the computer started making a strange beeping sound like it was an alarm sound so I quickly pulled the battery out and left it to dry out, took a night for the water to stop dripping out of the sides. In the morning I used a haridryer on coold settings to try and evaporate any remaining water, and tried plugging the power cord in and turning on, but it's not starting up!
My macbook was the 2008 model so it's past warranty, but it's only 2 years old and I really can't afford to buy another one right now because I'm just a poor college student
If anyone has advice on what I could do I would be really greatful...

Have you tried turning the computer on while the computer was plugged in?

  • Long beeping sound

While talking on the phone with a iPhone 5s user (only happens with this person) I occasionally hear a beeping sound it's not a quick beep it's a long continuing beeping noise that stops it's not a certain time limit either. It happens with and without earphones at one point the sound got so loud that I had to jerk my earphones out of my ear because it hurt so badly. I asked the other person if it was them or could they hear it (thinkiń they were joking with me) but they said no and I trust this person (significant other) i so not know where this sound is coming from but I do need help about it if you have and idea that would be great! Thanks

Boot from the Apple Hardware Test disk and run all tests in a loop by holding down Ctrl + L during the tests. Let it run for a while as it sometimes can take hours for an intermittent issue to show up.

  • Strange Constant HD Access Sounds for no reason??

Well, i just upgraded my system From....
    MB: Asus AM266-D
    CPU:  Dual Athlon MP 2400+
    RAM: 1 Gig Ram
    Controller: Promis SATA controller,
HDs: Western Digital Raptor 74gig SATA
           Maxtor 300gig SATA2
    To:
    MB: Platinum powerup V2
    CPU:Core 2 Duo EN6600,
    RAM: 2 Gig crosshair 800mhz, (pc6400)
    PS: Enermax liberty 620w
    VGA: Ati X1950XT (saphire)
    HD: Same as Before
Problem... Strange Very Annoying Constant HD Access.
First everything is all good, so i boot into my previous windows install from my other system, it updates all the drivers and i notice the thing is messed up, the HD access is slow and seems like its working harder than usual.... Turns out this was due to it being in IDE Mode, so i did a re-install of windows anyway in ACHI or whatever it is and installed the proper drivers, for the Intel SATA controller in AHCI.
Well, that definatly fixed the initial problem, but now, when the PC is completely IDLE, 0% CPU usage, No System restore, and nothing obvious using preformance monitors i setup, the HD is being accessed and its a constant sounding pattern, over and over and over every 3 seconds.... and its very very annoying.
So, for "I'm a potty mouth"s and gigles, i try a diffrent controller, the other sata controller, and same thing (with a re-intall of windows) then, i tried my old promis controller, installed driver, new windows install just incase, no repair, Same thing!!!!!!!!
Windows shows NO hd access in any of its preformance monitors and 0% CPU usage during this time.
Its like somthing is happening in the background, but not at the windows level, but at the hardware level????
I still havent ruled that out 100% though, but when i install linux Next, We'll see...
Windows in safe mode does the same, i've excluded a number of services etc... still the same thing.
This never happend once in my life, or on my previous hardware.
Also, i've even tried installing windows on my secondary drive, a SATA 2 Maxtor 300gig, NCQ... same thing, except its much quieter... so its not noticable, but its still there. On the WD Raptor though, its noticable and very annoying... especially when the PC is suppose to be IDLE, lol......
I've kept my windows install on my Maxtor, since its unoticable, and i put my raptor as a slave for now, but strangely enough, the raptor still makes that sound pattern during access and for 5 mins after, then it stops.   When windows was installed on it, it would do it for 20-30 mins then stop eventually only if you left it IDLE and dont do anything on the PC.  It even does this in the windows XP setup, lol.... like when entering the serial number, its all idle, and it does it.  its annoying as hell.
Also, the HD access LED does light during this access, but i see no simular patterns from HD access of other programs at all. and like i said 0% idle cPU usage.
So, WT is happening? Anyone experience such a weird problem?? anyone with this Board and a Raptor 74gig running windows XP have this issue?????????
Theres not really any preformance issues i beleive, since i got a 72xxx score in PCMark, and the HD's speed surpased even the other PC's in my PC's class that got right marks, even one running quad core.... but its the sound, its just driving me nuts, if i couldent hear it, i would be set, lol......i wouldent attempt to dampen the sound given how hot those raptors can run.  only thing i havent tried were, Linux, and trying the Raid Driver instead of AHCI.
is there any tools for monitoring HD access on the HW level? anything? any ideas?
    Thanks for any suggestions.....
FYI, the sound is like ("errrrr", "chick", "chick"....wait 3 seconds, repeat)
the "errrr" is a solid consistant sound for about a full second, the other sounds after it seem more like normal sounding HD access, but it goes in that pattern.  In IDE mode, its just insanely retarded... everything that loads does a solid consistant agressive sounding HD access.   using my previous MB, CPU, controller, it never did any of this at all.

Hello!  Thanks for suggestions... the power is all good though, thats for sure.  I also mentioned the PS above... its New too.
PS: Enermax liberty 620w.   For cables, i have tried with the legacy power connection and SATA power, plus a change of data cables.
I ran the WD diagnostics tool checker, the drive is being a secondary now.  No bad sectors or problems writing 0's to the drive, all reports good anyhow.  it might be some sorta power saving issue like you mentioned.  I also have the jumper on the HD still at default, which i believe is set to no spread spectrum clocking, like it aways was.  There is a setting for power management, but it isn't on that jumper.  the jumpers and power management in the bios are the only things i haven't tried, but thats next.
Also, i updated to the latest bios version, just to see.    I wish there was some tools to monitor the commands + data going to the HD from the controller, that may narrow things down a bit.   I'm a coder and its annoying troubleshooting these odd ball problems without proper tools, hehe.
i'll try the power stuff and see what happends

  • Satelite L750 (PSK2YA-04K010) constant long beeps when it gets to the loading Windows screen.

    Hey all,
I have a customers laptop here, a Satelite L750 (PSK2YA-04K010). It's running Windows 7 Home Premium and when it gets to the Windows loading screen it beeps long constant beeps and the HDD led flashes in time with those beeps and doesn't actually load Windows.
Next time you reboot the computer it will often not beep and then boot fine.
Anyone know what this error beep relates to? I can't see anything in the manual or online that explains the error beeps.
    Thanks.

That doesn't appear to be a US model, and this is the forums for Toshiba USA. You may want to contact Toshiba in your region.

  • Lenovo N100 , 0689-A4U with Win 7. No driver for PCI Bus 5.

I just acquired a 3000 N100 With Win 7.    Device manager shows a flag on (2 each)  "Base System Device" .  Under the general tab, they are listed as PCI Bus 5, device 6, function 2 and function 3.
I have no audio and the Blue tooth is not functioning. Wireless is OK and the Blue tooth lamp is on and follows the wireless switch.
The Device manager says both the Blue tooth and the audio "high def audio" devices are working properly.  ????
    Card bus is OK.
    Every thing else works OK.
Does any one have an answer.
    Thanks,
    Gordon

For "Base System Device" Install Ricoh card reader driver
    from THIS page.
For sound, try the Realtek Vista driver for your laptop.
For Blutooth, try Vista driver, both from THIS page.
    May need Modem driver also.
Read instructions carefully on how to extract and run Setup file!
Do one at a time, and if the driver does not work,
    un-install it.

  • I have a bunch of mailboxes where I sort my mail under "on my Mac."  One of these mailboxes is now gone.  Vanished.  It started with the letter A, and my first available mailbox is starting with a B.  I've looked for it in other mailboxes, but it is gone.

    Help!  Advice please!

Thanks.  I tried this and it did not work.  The whole box/folder is just gone from On My Mac.  I've done no system updates.

  • I no longer have sound for either my audio books or my music on itunes.  I've tried everything--restarting, updating, re-installing audible app, and restoring the iphone to its factory settings--nothing helps.  How do I get the sound back?

How do I get the sound back on my iPhone 4?  I've tried all the fixes such as restarting iPhone, reinstalling the audible app, and finally yesterday, I restored the phone to its factory settings.  I still get no sound from music on iTunes or from my audible books.  The phone still rings (I have sound for that) and the voice control speaks to me, and when I'm typing, the automatic text voice speaks so I can hear it but nothing else works.

Since it has always been very basic to backup your computer and all it's data, Apple provides no way for you to transfer music from your iPhone back to your computer.  As you know, you can re-download all iTunes purchases, but music that you ripped yourself you'll have to just re-rip again.
You can try and find 3rd party applications that might help you.  I'm sure you'll pay, however.
Let this be a very important lesson learned.
    Best.
