  • Lenovo toolbox and fingerprint software stopped working on Thinkpad W700 Windows 7 Pro 64 bit

After installing Lenovo Updates an unknown USB device appeared in device manager. Per the instructions of a Lenovo support person I performed a system restore to a time prior to the updates. After doing that the Lenovo Toolbox and Fingerprint software would no longer work. I tried another system restore back to the latest date and that did not solve the problem. I also tried reinstalling both the Toolbox and the finger print software and they still won't work. When I try to launch either of those apps I get an error message saying that they have stopped working and that the system was checking online for a solution, with no result. It's my impression that the system restore screwed up something in the OS or the system registry that is a dependency for those two programs. The only suggestion Lenovo support could give me is to re-image the system. I would prefer to find the cause and fix that rather than reload the entire system. I would love to know what could cause these two programs to stop working when the other Lenovo utilities seem to work fine. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Which version of the tool box are you using?Mine would not open after installting updates but after installating the latest version its working fine

  • Is it possible to require password AND fingerprint scan (T500 Win7 Pro)

Is there any way to set up 2 factor (fingerprint and password) authentication for a higher level of security?

  • Received 2 new T530 CTO's today, needed 915mb of Lenovo updates and close to 200 Win7 updates

Received qty 2 new T530 CTO's today that fresh out of the box needed 915mb of Lenovo updates downloaded (even System Update was obsolete) and close to qty 200 Win7 Pro updates. I guess the drive image must be from day one of GA? That would not make most potential customers very happy.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I understand your frustration, so let me be honest with you about what the situation is.  Quite frankly, Lenovo is focused on Win8 (and soon, Win8.1), and not Win7.  The Win7 preloads haven't changed much since Win8 came out one year ago.  There have been a couple of emergency driver updates, but it's just not a good use of business resources to update the Win7 preload regularly.  The future is Win8+, so that's where we are spending our resources.
In addition to this, most Win7 customers at this point are businesses who install their own image.
So for these reasons, the Win7 preload is stale, and if you want the very latest updates you will have to install them yourself.  Fortunately the update tools (Windows Update and ThinkVantage System Update) make this easy.
Sorry for this inconvenience but I hope you can understand the situation.

  • PCMCIA gigabit cards are poor performance with lenovo n100

    Hello,
I have a lenovo n100 and I tried two pcmcia gigabit cards (Dlink DGE 660TD and TRENDnet TEG-PCBUSR) with very poor performance. I tested with iperf (cat6 cable with Siemens Sinergie S300 server) and Windows, linux, normal config, tunned tcp parameters, the outcome is always the same, 200Mbits upload and 76Mbits for download.
    Any sugestion?
    Kind regards,
    André P. Muga

    lead_org wrote:
There is two type of PCMCIA, one is running at 16 bit another is running through 32 bit.
You can achieve the gigabit requirements quite comfortably with the 32 bit, but i think the 16 bit version is not going to be enough for the gigabit ethernet.
Running at Mhz??? I don't understand how that is anything to with data bandwidth.
Both are pcmcia2, 32 bits, gigabit ethernet, full duplex, cards.
    The peak transfer rate is calculated by <bus speed MHz> * <bus width> = <Mbps>
    Example:
Bus speed 33MHz, Bus width:  32bits
    33 * 32  = 1056 Mbps or 132MBps
Bus speed 667MHz, Bus width:  32bits
    667 * 32  = 21344Mbps or 2668MBps
The lenovo N100 has a 32 bit bus with 667MHz.... no limitation here.

  • T410s - Need advice on Low Level format of Lenovo SSD and reinstall on Win7

I'm new to SSD formatting, and wanted to know if anyone has done a clean install on a Lenovo SSD.  I have used DBAN in the past on my HHD based systems, but I've read that SSD's need to be formatted differently.  I have a T410s 2901CTO  that I want to reconfigure.
I would like to nuke the entire factory 128G SSD, repartition, format and install a clean Win7 OS.
Any help, links, etc, are greatly appreciated

    BigBlack,
Actually ThinkPad BIOS prevents issuing the ATA Secure Erase command from software, after POST exits.  This is for security reasons.  That's why SSD erase can only be done from within BIOS itself.  So your link would not work on ThinkPad, to do a Secure Erase on SSD.
T400/T410 generation use this method:  http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?LegacyDocID=MIGR-68369
T420 and later user this method:  http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS019026
Traditional disk-wiping methods like DBAN aren't optimal for SSDs due to the way that SSD firmware maps writes to NAND in unpredictable ways.  So even after a DBAN wipe, your data may still remain on the SSD, and all you've done is generate wear on the drive.

  • S5503w win7 64bit ethernet and audio drivers

I recently acquired a Pavilion Slimline (s5503w) desktop PC.  For whatever reason the hard drive was blanked out when I recieved it and upon installing Windows 7 64-bit (Ultimate Ed) I've had quite some time locating the proper drivers.  Attempting to use the recommended drivers from this website resulted in a 9996 error, you don't meet the requirments.  Proper recommended installer for that version of windows, but no luck.  I've also tried installing the Ethernet and Audio drivers recommended by Nividia's website.  A 15.49 package, but though it recognizes the video card it doesn't notice the onboard Ethernet or Audio.  Neither of these devices is listed in device manager as far as I can tell either.   No typical yellow exclemation mark stating that the driver is missing.
Any help or a point in the right direction would be greatly apperciated.

    Hi:
I don't think there is anything wrong with the hardware.
    I would reinstall W7.
Then right afterward, install that nForce chipset driver first and reboot.
Then the video driver I posted and reboot.
Then the audio driver I posted and reboot.
If you still have issues, try a manual install.
Download the free 7-zip file utility and extract the files you downloaded into folders.
Then click on each device in the device manager that needs the drivers.
Click on the driver tab, click on update driver, select the Browse my computer for software and browse to the folders you extracted for each device.
Make sure the Include Subfolders box is checked and see if the drivers install that way.
There has to be a way to get these items installed.
If you stil can't get the drivers installed, please post the hardware ID's for each device needing drivers so I can confirm that they are what they are supposed to be according to the product specs for your PC.
If you don't know where to find the hardware ID, please read the info at the link below.

    Not possible in that case.
When i tried yesterday, my sound was ok, but now it seems its not working at all? yes, i tried alsaconfig, /etc/rc.d/alsa start, unmuted and raised volume at alsamixer but still no output to speakers or to .
alsaconfig only screws everything up. Remove the stuff from /etc/modprobe.conf (which alsaconf puts there) and boot again. Sound works great here.
Ill try the other video drivers asap, and by assign keycodes you mean the acpi assigns ? I red about that something on thinkwiki, ill check it out. Thanks for your help, ill owe you a beer just come to prague

I put this script in my kde autostart folder and the keys can be used.
bluetooth aint working too, installed bluez-(libs|tools) but still getting no such device with hcitool
you need to start dbus and bluetooth (in that order) in rc.conf DAEMONS for bluetooth to work.

  • SimplePass and FingerPrint Reader not working - Win 7Pro 64Bit

I have a Envy DV7-7212nr which has been running flawlessly with Windows 7Pro for the past two years.  Fingerprint reader and SimplePass has been working fine.  Last week I downloaded from the HP support site for this notebook the updated SimplePass.  After removing all passwords from the account, uninstalling the old software and driver and updating with the HP software,  it quit working to the point where I couldn't even log in to my computer.  I finally got in under administrator and had to manually remove and uninstall the SimplePass software and edit its entries out of the registry.
I can now get back into my laptop fine (no password protection).  Following the advice of the HP Tech via chat session  I again ninstalled the driver listed under Biometrics and uninstalled the software and downloaded the SimplePass from the HP Support site with upgrades listed for this machine.  The Tech took over the machine and tried installing and re-installing and then finally said it was a hardware issue.  I don't believe it's a hardware issue in that at the Windows Login Screen, if I swipe my finger, it recognizes the swipe but then gives an error message that there is no fingerprints associated with the reader (or something like that).
If I back out and just login without the reader and launch SimplePass (Authentec Version 6.0 downloaded via HP Service Pak) - 2013-04-05 , Version6.0.100.272, 66.44M - SP61399, the splash screen opens and says DOWNLOADING DATABASE - and nothing else happens.  It then pops up an error box labeled IESiteLogin.exe with an EXCEPTION ERROR.
White lite on reader never comes on.  Driver details says all is working fine.
Repeated un-installs and re-installs have no effect.
I no longer have the original SimplePass and Driver filed so I can't revert back.  Can someone please offer a solution or provide a URL that will allow me to download the original SimplePass and Validity drivers so I can get this working again?
HP's download caused the problem - I would think they could fix it.
    Thanks in advance.

    thx1326,
I am sorry the Driver did not work.
You might try the Hard Reset procedure below to clear the device cache and allow the driver a better chance to set into place.
    thx1326 wrote:
Ok... so the validity driver did nothing.  Shows fine in device manager - but nothing.  If i install SimplePass, as soon as it finishes installing and everytime I try to run it... I get the pop up window above.
Worst of all... don't you think it is deplorable that no one from HP has bothered to offer help?
Their tech support is really almost non existant.  The tech support person that called me back today kept trying to say it was all my fault for downgrading to Windows 7 and that they don't support Windows 7 and it was my problem.  I finally had to politely ask him to shut up and listen and answer me if they don't support Windows 7, why do they offer driver and software updates for Windows 7 on the support page for this laptop... of course he had no answer for that.  Another 30 minutes wasted that I will never get back.
    Thanks again for any help.
    Commentary
It is always unfortunate when a system does not respond to an Upgrade or Downgrade of the Operating System in the way one hopes.
There is no guarantee that there are Drivers for every model  and for every version of the Operating System that one wishes -- changing the Operating System from that of the originally installed version is the responsibility of the owner.  Demanding otherwise is futile.

    Driver Options - Windows 7 dv7-7200 series
HP SimplePass Series 6 requries a Validity Driver minimum version: 4.3.0.205
    To try a different Driver:
First >> Fully Remove any existing Driver
    Windows 8       Windows key + X > M (opens the Device Manager) >
    OR
Windows 7       Control Panel > set icon view > Device Manager >
    Open category Biometric Devices >
Right-Click on Validity Sensor Driver > Uninstall > in box > Click Delete
Next >> Perform the Hard Reset
Create a Restore Point:   Create a Restore Point – Win7 OR  Create a restore point Win8
Close all your programs and shut down the computer
Disconnect everything (little Unifier for the keyboard / external mouse can stay)
Perform the Hard Reset for your notebook model
Boot the computer and log in
Reminder:  Hard Reset is just a device Reset.  The procedure does not wipe out your files nor does it destroy your Windows setup in any way.  This type of reset "clears the cobwebs". Depending on the root cause of the problem, this procedure can fix a variety of computer glitches.
Next >> Install the replacement Driver
Try one of the following drivers:
    Validity Sensor Driver sp53369 V4.3.205.0
    Validity Sensor sp54484 - V4.3.205.0
    Restart / Reboot the system
    ===========================================================================
    Other Option
I suggest you use System Restore to recover the Validity Sensor Driver you must have been using for the past two years running Windows 7 and HP SimplePass version 6.0.100.272.

  • Lenovo G585 and the inbuilt Elan driver

Hello. I'm a proud owner of a Lenovo G585. Swiched from Windows 7 to Windows 8.1. When i was downloading the drivers, at the Touch pad I saw that there is no driver for Elan, and use the inbuilt.
    The problem is:
    1. The inbuilt 8.1 Elan touchpad driver lacks gesture and multi touch finctionality (like side scroll, etc), and also no visible control panel.
    2. No visible option to automaticaly disable the touchpad when external USB mouse is connected. This is a big issue, as most of the times I forget to manually disable the touchpad, and it reacts when I type).
These funtions work in both Win7 and Win8 drivers.
As the Windows 8 driver sometimes crashes on Windows 8.1, I would like to ask for an official Windows 8.1 driver (as Synaptics does have a driver).

Same here (Lenovo G580). Fell back to Windows 8 drivers untill notice from Lenovo.

  • Upgraded to windows 7 now my Base System Device and Fingerprint Reader isn't working!

I recently upgraded from Windows Vista Business to Windows 7 Ultimate and my Base System Device and Fingerprint Reader isn't working.  I've tried reading advice off of some forums here and even checked out what I can download from this site and also tried updating but each time it either says could not find updates, or when I  try dowloading from this site it says the program may have not installed correctly.  I'm stuck I don't know what else I can do, can someone help, I would appreaciate it greatly!
    CheerGurl313

Ah if only life were so simple. I have been without a soundcard ever since upgrading to Windows 7, have spent hours on the Lenovo site trying to locate a driver, filling in all those little boxes, time after time to no avail. The drivers, if they exist at all, are being kept secret. There can be no other explanation. Have the same problem with the fingerprint thingy, but not bothered as the kids had learnt to bypass it anyway.
Enjoying windows 7 in complete silence. If anyone wants to advise downloading a driver then fantastic, but give us a clue where it is hidden.

  • Lenovo G560 and windows 8.1

    Hi
This question is related to a laptop (Lenovo G560) with "Intel HM55 chipset + Integrated Intel HD graphics w/ shared video memory".
I wanted to know if windows 8.1 will run on it (At present it is running on windows 7 hom basic). The lenovo site does not have a chipset driver for windows 8 but there is one for windows 7.
    http://support.lenovo.com/en_IN/research/hints-or-tips/detail.page?DocID=HT072731
Windows 7 has following drivers -
Intel Chipset driver for Windows 7 (32-bit, 64-bit)
Intel Management Engine Interface for Windows 7 (32-bit, 64-bit)
    Windows 8 has only -
Intel Management Engine Interface Driver for Microsoft Windows 8
Does windows 8 does need intel chipset driver? Does windows 8.1 have a generic inbuilt driver  for this chipset?  Will it work? Please help?
Also - will windows 7 drivers work in windows 8.1.

    hi rohit2276,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
I tried checking the drivers on the Intel Websie for chipset drivers,
    https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Default.aspx?lang=eng
And no drivers as well for chipset on Windows 8 and 8.1
The Chipset HM55 is fully supported on WIndows 8 thus not needing additional Software installation.
Yes the Windows 7 Drivers should work by doing a manual installation , but those are not recommended.
Since Windows 8 drivers are released for this model it means that the system should do fine with Windows 8 /8.1
