Lenovo N500 NS74APB and corrupted sound via HDMI

Hello. I have connected the laptop to TV LCD (Philips PFL7403D/12) with HDMI cable and I noticed corrupted sound. There are noises (crackles) and vanishing sound for seconds. Also when i.e. moving the window between the screens, the crackles occure. On internal speakers the sound is correct. What can be the problem? Is it laptop, TV or HDMI cable, which causes the problems?

I also use the N500 modell (747) and want to watch videos, I have problems with the sound, too.
I have connected the notebook with a HDTV projector, resolution 1920 x 1200,  via HDMI cable.
The screen of the notebook is dark.
Problem: I can hear nothing, the sound from the movie cannot get out from the notebook by the audio front connector.
Question: How can I catch the sound? Any ideas?
Thanks

  • Mac mini no surround sound via HDMI to TV

I have a MacMINI 2011 which is connected via HDMI cable directly to my Samsung UA55HU8590 TV.
The problem is that the MAC is not delivering a surround sound. If I e.g. watch a movie via iTunes I can only listen in stereo not in DTS or any other dolby sound.
I see in the midi audio setup at the HDMI entry that all my 5.1 settings are greyed out.
I have the latest Yosemite installed.
How can I transfer surround sound via HDMI to my TV?

    Try:
    Force 5.1 out over HDMI

  • 5.1 Sound via HDMI in Windows 7

    Hi there,
I have a MBPr and have got the sound working via internal speakers and also can get surround sound via the optical connection. I'm trying to get surround sound working via the HDMI port though, but so far have had no luck.
The system reports that there are only 2 channels available via the HDMI. Orginally it had them listed as nvidia HDMI Digital Audio, but after me messing around it's just labeled as generic HDMI Audio.
Has anyone managed to get this working correctly? If so which drivers are needed as Windows just installs the generic ones. I've tried the Cirrus Logic and also the nvidia drivers, but they aren't recognised.
    Any help would be appriecated.
    Thanks.

Same problem here. Did you ever figure it out?

  • No sound via HDMI on non-KDE apps (using KDE 4.5)

Hi, I was just wondering if anyone would know how I would go about having sound from applications like Firefox use the sound device that I select via the System Settings > Multimedia > Phonon device preference? KDE applications work no problem. I am using the Xine backend. If at all possible I like to do this without installing another backend like Pulseaudio.
    Any suggestions?

The KDE settings only changes the settings for KDE apps. You probably have to use .asoundrc or asound.conf to configure it unless you use Pulseaudio (which I use and works great with HDMI by the way) Look through here: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Alsa

  • After updating to 4.4.2 sound via hdmi has disappeared from non iTunes content. Why?

I initially upgraded to 4.4 then to 4.4.1 and found that only Itunes TV shows would play a 5.1 surround sound the rest of the content ie Movies was just stereo even though it has an AC3 5.1 option with it.
My setup is Apple TV 2 connected via HDMI to an Onkyo Receiver and then connected from the receiver to th Samsung LED TV.
Whilst on 4.3 this all worked fine. I have tried switching the sound through all the dolby options Yes, No and Auto and this has made zero difference. I guess I may well be having to downgrade to 4.3 again unless somebody can point me to where I am going wrong.
    Regards
    Steve

So I think that my situation agrees with that. It seems like it is a question of tagging of content if itunes tv episodes eg Hawaii 50 pays OK with dolby and sounds great, yet my own movies which are ripped from my own personal DVDs no longer play the Dolby track. Does anybody know if this is the case?

  • Soundblaster X-Fi Sorround 5.1 (USB) and Sorround Sound via S/PDIF?

    Hi,
I use a X-Fi XtremeMusic with the DD / DTS Connect Pack in my PC for sorround sound over S/PDIF in Music/Games/etc. That works like a charme and I have no problems at all (thanks do daniel_k )
Recently I purchased a new laptop and liked the idea of connecting my sorround system with it too, so I looked around and purchased a "Soundblaster X-Fi Sorround 5.". Sadly the DD/DTS Pack does not install for this device...
Now, as far as I know, the only real sorround sound I will get would be from audio signals that are in the correct format (that is: movies)
I guess I'm kind of f****d right now.. Is there any workaround for this? The only thing I really want is to play games on my sorround system via S/PDIF. I *could* connect it directly to my speakers, but that would end in a cable mess... and would kind of make my whole audio setup pointless.
If anyone knows some other USB soundcard which can "convert" EAX/other Sorround Signals to Dolby Digital..shoot Though I'd like to stick with creative if possible.
If not...well, I can still send it back to the merchant. :/
    My hardware if it helps:
    - Teufel Concept-E Magnum (Analog sorround speakers)
    - Teufel DecoderStation 3 (decodes DD/DTS and stuff to an analog signal for the speakers)

There are many cards build with the Via EnvyHD codec/chip for instance, among which high quality Terratec ones, which have SAP without any HDMI output.
Check the Via site if you don't trust me (and the Terratec one).
SAP does NOT require HDMI. You are talking about apples and oranges here, you don't even know what SAP is. Please, let knowledgeable people post instead of trying to sound smart when you know nothing.
EDIT: Oh, and not to mention... even if those are "motherboard codecs", as you say... they are still SAP certified by Cyberlink and can output full HD sound without downsampling, and they do NOT require an HDMI output. So now maybe you will let people who know what they are talking about post instead of posting your ignorant nonsense.
Haha, he gets mad when he gets schooled.
Don't get angry at me, it's not my fault if you don't know the difference between onboard audio and a sound card.
It's PAP (protected audio path), not SAP. SAP is secondary audio programming, something entirely different.
PAP doesn't require HDMI, but I've yet to see a sound card that supports PAP but doesn't feature an HDMI output (so my point about needing a sound card with HDMI still stands). If you had read my earlier edit of post #2 you would see that I've already addressed the motherboard/HDMI issue.
List these sound cards you speak of, I still don't see any specific models listed.

  • Macbook pro early 2011 sound via HDMI.

    Hi,
I own a Macbook pro 13 inch (early 2011) and a liftrons mini display port to HDMI adapter.
If I connect my macbook to my philips tv it works fine.
And if I'm watching a photo slideshow using Iphoto I also hear the sound on the tv.
But when i'm watching a movie using VLC I only get the sound through my macbook speakers.
Does someone know how to fix this?
I tried changing the sound settings on my macbook, but nothing works.
    Thanks!

That sounds like an issue you need to bring up with the VideoLAN group who works on VLC.  Possibly, you might want to go to VLC Preferences and disable Audio, and let the Mac control it, but I'm not sure.

  • Satellite P750 - Don't want sound via HDMI

Hi - got a P750 and an ext LED monitor without speakers. What do I have to do in order to only let the picture "run" trough the HDMI and keep the sound on the computer?

    Hey,
I agree with the user above. Click on speaker icon in taskbar and choose the playback devices. Just disable the HDMI output and sound will be played on computer.
    Check this!!!

  • MiniDP port doesn't play sound via HDMI

I have connected it from the computer to the HD tv, and the video works. But the sound will not transfer, The sound preferences doesn't show any outputs but the internal speakers, and I checked the MIDI setup Utility, and it also did not show it as an option.

Hi, guidino. I have a late-2008 unibody MBP like yours, and I don't expect Apple will ever enable our mini-Displayports to output audio signals. But there are adapters that will combine audio and video signals from our machines into a single HDMI cable and resolve the problem you describe in your post. Here are three:
This one draws 5.1-channel optical digital audio from the headphone port and power from a USB port:
    http://kanexlive.com/products/item.aspx?id=3495
This one draws 2-channel stereo audio from a USB port:
    http://kanexlive.com/products/item-id-3323.html
This is similar to the first one linked above, but less expensive:
    http://www.cablematters.com/pc-56-26-mini-displayport-male-and-toslink-audiousb- male-to-hdmi-female-adapter.aspx
I don't know where you are located, but you should be able to find these adapters or similar ones somewhere near you, or at an online vendor who ships to your country.

  • Surround Sound via HDMI

I've tried just about everything to get Surround Sound out of the MacBook Pro. I'm starting to wonder if it's even possible.
I have a MacBook Pro Mid-2010 (the first model to support Multi-Channel Audio, BTW), and I've been trying to output surround sound to a Vizio 7.1 Surround Sound System (It's got sound quality like you wouldn't believe, if only the speakers weren't so slippery and would stay still.) It's connected to a Vizio HDTV through optical audio, which is connected through an HDMI cable to the MacBook, which is using a Moshi HDMI to Mini DP adapter (It's pretty good quality). I know it's not a problem with the HDTV or the Sound Bar, as Surround Sound works fine with our 3D BluRay, our DTV Box, an HD Upscaling DVD Player, and Windows 7 or 8 PCs, including my Surface Pro 2 (Worst computer in the universe.) The Sound Bar doesn't like PCM very much (sometimes it works), and prefers Dolby.
First, I thought it might be a problem with the TV, so I moved the whole system upstairs to a 720p LG HDTV, which also supports optical surround-sound passthrough from an HDMI source. It still showed as a 2 channel device in MIDI Setup. Then I tried various different settings and restarting and resetting the PRAM. I also tried another, unmarked HDMI to Mini DP adapter that I had in a random box, also to no avail. I thought maybe it only works with a lower display resolution, but no. I even tried using someone else's Retina MacBook Pro, but it had the same problems. Seriously, how does anyone even consider a mac as an audio production platform? This is a serious issue for audio professionals (Not that I'd know, I'm an artist). Anyway, I've even tried a few supposed software solutions, like Perian, which didn't work at all. Someone suggested Soundflower, but I know that doesn't work, because I've actually had it for years. (It's quite useful for recording or redirecting audio.) There's a few tutorials I've seen to solve the problem, but they all stop making sense at the "Set the format to 6 or 8-Channel" part. Obviously, if I can't output Surround Sound, that means that there's no "Format" option that's not labeled "2-channel".
Screenshots: (Ignore the Premiere Pro option, that's just there just it's open in the background)
So basically, what do you do if Mac OS X tells you there's no Surround Sound, and every other device tells you different?

Dam I've done it, ok next thing is where the volumes are grey'd out I would like to increase the volume to the rear speakers.

  • Movie too large via imovie and no sound via idvd.

Help! I have a movie on a minidv tape that is one hour and 21 minutes long.
This is a very important tape and I dont want to delete any of it.
    I don't understand why I can't create a dvd (which can hold a 2 hour movie).
If I use idvd it captures the video but there is no sound.
If I download it via imovie, then try to create a dvd, it tells me that the movie
is too large. How can it be too large if the movie is less than 2 hours and should be able to fit on the dvd.
Can anyone help this beginner. (I just bought this g5 yesterday).

    Hi
iDVD 6 should be able to make a DVD disk with 60 min or 120 min movie +
    menu.
Can it be so that Your menu are to complex (or when added together results
    in more than 120 min)
Sounds can be tricky and iDVD can count in sounds that You thought be out-
side Your movie (stretching out after the video ended). If So re do the sound
part of Your movie and be carefull that no audio cont after the movie is ended.
In iDVD: (strang but it is like this)
Best Quality is for movies + menus more than 60 min and less than 120
Best Performances for movies + menu less than 60 min.

  • NVIDIA display over HDMI and ATI sound over HDMI using one mainboard

    Hello everyone,
I was curious to know if it is possible to use a setup where I use an NVIDIA card to send display over HDMI to my receiver and at the same time I use an internal ATI chip to send audio over HDMI to the same receiver.
In my setup it is a GA-MA78GM-S2H mainboard with a built in ATI HD3200 IGP and an NVIDIA 9500GT GPU and I'll be using XBMC as media centre.
The problem is there is no hardware acceleration support for the display of full-hd (1080p 24) for the ATI chip, whereas NVIDIA using  VDPAU is.
On the other hand the 9500GT doen not support audio over HDMI (unlike the newer models like GT210 or GT220), I can connect SPDIF to the NVIDIA card to allow some sort of audio over HDMI, but in that case I'll still have the bandwidth limitation associated with SPDIF.
I tried to set up a box with both NVIDIA and catalyst drivers to use the above functions, but when I try to install catalyst drivers I get a hardware conflict notice that NVIDIA and Catalyst drivers cannot be installed at the same time on the same system.
AFAIK I need the catalyst drivers (or hd-radeon) in order for also to recognize the device (?)
Anyone any information if installing both drivers is required and possible? Or are there any other methods to achieve such set up?
    TIA,

  • No sound on LCD TV when Satellite A200 is connected via HDMI

The problen is: I connect notebook (A200) to LCD TV (Philips) by HDMI. The video is OK, but sound stay on notebook not in LCD TV.
May be the problem is HDMI 1.2 does not support sound and video together? Only 1.3?
    Sorry for my English

Sound should work with every HDMI cable as far as I know. Have two of them, one with HDMI 1.3 and another one, which I don't even know, but I guess not the 1.3 standard, as it was pretty cheap.
To enable sound via HDMI you will have to go to control panel - sound. There select the digial output device as standard. Make sure you have closed the media player or any program which has sound output before. Then start player again and sound should now be heard through TV.

  • No sound going direct from AppleTV to TV via HDMI

No sound via HDMI to From Apple TV to TV.
    1) Switched out the HDMI cable between
    2) Blue ray via to tv via HDMI works just fine.
    3) Apple Tv via HDMI to Receiver to TV via HDMI works just fine.
It is just the direct connect that does not work.

I suspect this is a problem with your TV not being able to decode the digital bitstream by which the sound is sent via the HDMI cable. The receiver obviously can (as I would expect).
Not sure how you are connecting both your receiver and the TV to the HDMI output on the Apple TV as there is only one and it is better to send the signal via the receiver anyway as I would imagine that is how your surround sound system operates.
