Lenovo P500 - strange noise

So, I bought a 15.6" Lenovo P500 laptop today. When I powered it up, it right away started making these strange, "staticky" noises - like paper crumpling and a few clicking noises. Thought that was very strange. I had played with a few brands of laptops at different stores before I bought one and never heard any one of them make those kind of noises, even the Lenovo ones at the Best Buy showroom floor. I also noticed that the sounds are coming from the upper right side of the laptop, around the area of the optical drive. And that the sounds are more louder when I'm surfing the web via wifi. At the initial start up the sounds were more loud (but not that really loud) but as the day progresses the sounds were becoming more quieter and it comes and goes. But it still continues though here and there. What the heck is it and how can I stop it from doing that? I mean, when it's not making those noises the laptop is really quiet, even when the fan is on. Sometimes I think that I can live with it since it's not all the time but when it starts up again I think to myself that it could potentially become a fingernails-on-the-board-kind-of-thing. It could really become very annoying very soon. Anybody here experience the same thing with a Lenovo laptop? I really like this laptop from what I have seen so far and I would really hate to return it but the noises are starting to get on my nerves. And it's only the first day. Don't get me wrong, it's not THAT loud but it has the potential to be very annoying sooner or later.
I hesitate to return it and exchange it for another one of the same brand and model because if it turns out that the replacement laptop also has the same problem then I will be forced to return it AGAIN and be liable for a pretty hefty re-stocking fee (from what I understand). I have never had to return purchased computers before in my life as I've never gotten a "defective" product before so this is all new and confusing to me. And I really like this particular laptop. I could exchange it for a different brand but I'm saving that for the last resort. I hope. So, if I can fix this I want to do it before I return or exchange. Any ideas?
I've read on the Lenovo Support site that more than few people have had or are having the same strange, staticky noice complaints but those were from a different Lenovo model. They said that it has something to do with the audio driver and microphone settings. But the static sounds are more pronounced when they are using earphones while watching a video or listening to music. They can hear the static noise through the sounds in the earphones. I don't have the same problem. My sounds are perfect with the earphones. The laptop is still making the static noise but it's not translating in the sounds from the earphones. I can't hear the static noise when I have earphones on even though it's still making the sounds at the time but wearing an earphones all the time so I can't hear the static noise while working on a laptop is just ridiculous to me.
Any ideas or suggestions? I would really like to fix this before I decide to give up and return or exchange it so any help would be greatly appreciated.

No restocking fee? That's good to hear. Because I've read from another site that someone bought a Lenovo laptop (different model I think) with the same clicking, gurgling, static sounds issue and had to exchange it for another one (same brand and model laptop). Unfortunately, the replacement laptop had the same issue (same static noise) and when he brought it back he was charged a restocking fee and he also ended up buying a different brand laptop. And I would really like to have this same brand and model laptop if I were to give up on this one but am scared that the same situation would happen to me too. Is that the case?
I'm going to give this one a few more days hoping it would miraculously fix itself or the noise would somehow make itself disappear. It's still making little clicking noises as I type on it though. I would be somehow disappointedt if I ended up with a different brand laptop though as this has really grown on me.

  • Problem 1/2 with lenovo T400s = strange sound

    Hello,
my new lenovo T400s works quite fine. But two things are getting on my nerves!
The first problem is a very strange sound. It's not very loud but its a very aggravating sound! In some forum posts people explained the reason of the strange noise is caused by the switching between the c2 and c4 processor state. So I tried the kernel option
    processor.max_cstate=2
But the sound is still there.
I would be very very glad if someone could help me. Every hint is very welcome.
    tia and greetings,
    Oli

  • Im from argentina and i got a problem with my earphone of the iphone 4s when i make a call i earphone or speaker make and strange noise or like an interference during the call and when i finish the call still doing the same noise and i dont know why?

my eraphone of my iphone 4s white unlocked make strange noises during the call and still doing the noise like an interference or saturing the spekaer

This is a common problem with iPhone 4s (and IOS 5)  There isn't ' anything you can do about it, so you're best bet is to go down to the store and get an exchange. If you have an older iPhone (3gs/4) roll back your update from IOS 5 to IOS 4.

  • AP54G generates a strange noise while operating

    Hello guys!
Is that normal, that my MSI AP54G Access Point generates a silent, strange noise (like a TV when there's no signal), while it is operating? I noticed it one or two days ago and I don't know, whether it is a normal thing or not. Ummm... I think, I have to tell you, that some days ago I dropped the AP (accidentally) from about one meter high... so I think that can be the reason why the AP emits such a strange noise. Anyway, it is operating perfectly, it has a very strong and stable signal and I'm fully satisfied with it, but I'm afraid, that this noise could cause some trouble in the future, for example burn down the AP or even explode it?
    Thanks for your help!
    Greetings:
    Gery

    Thanks... you are very helpful...
Don't you guys use this AP? I'm the only one, who uses it? Well, I think not.
And what about you guys working for MSI?? You don't read the forum of your own company??

  • Burned CD's: strange noise on inner tracks

    Hi everybody,
since I upgraded my system with a S-ATA DVD burner, I get a strange issue when I write my playlists to CD-R's.
The burned disc has got a persistent noise on the inner tracks and the more the track number raises the more I can hear the noise.
It's not like static or something like that.
It's a weird looping sound that accompanies the track from start to end.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Kind regards

Hi I'm having the same problem here. I've been using iTunes for ages now. Very strange. I've tried burning via another CR Rwiter but still the same strange noise and on different places. Lookst like a software bug to me. Anybody got lucky solving this?

  • My macbook (2009) keeps making strange noises. What to do?

Yesterday, my macbook started to make strange noises. A little scratchy noise. Like there's somthing wrong with the Fan or something.
I called Apple Support, but they told me i had to reset the SMC and PRAM/NVRAM. I triend, but the noise is still there.
Does anyone know what to do?? Is it bad?
    Its a really annoying sound.

It could be the fan.....or the hard drive.....this is a link to a data recovery firm that has posted the various sounds made by failing hard drives.......
    datacent.com/hard_drive_sounds.php
......make sure your data is backed now in case the hard drive is failing.....

  • Strange noise from Touch ID sensor on iPhone 6

I dont know how I found that out, but try laying your finger on the home button on your iphone 6 and listen closely. I hear a strange ticking noise, like its generated by some kind of voltage?! Like the sparking of the gas-cooker. And if you lay your finger on the ring around the button you can hear that noise more frequent/quicker. Any idea about this?

WHen I noticed this strange noise I made some search on google and found only one post about the same problem and an answer that confirmed the sound on another device so I'm not the only one in this case. Strange, but the page I found yesterday is not available today, the post has been deleted I'm afraid they think I'm stupid if I take back the phone with this problem, because the sound has no effect on the phone, its working properly. But I want to know what can cause this...

  • My ipod touch makes a strange noise when makes the synchronization with itunes

At first my ipod touch began doing strange noise in differents situations. Yesterday I try to solved it doing this: I connected it to itunes a made a restore. I thought it was solved, but today the noise came back.  I could identify when it happens. If the ipod is off and I plug the usb cable, itunes starts and the ipod turn on, then the first thing it do is connected to the wifi network, then syncronizations began and the strange noise is heard.
    Some idea?
Do you think it would be neccesary to visit an apple store to solve it. My ipod is even covered by warranty.
    Thank you very much.

  • Strange Noise on Burned Cd from Itunes

I have had itunes for well over a year now, and have never had a problem like this so far.
It seems just lately, in the past 3 weeks, when I make an audio cd with purchased itunes music, there is a strange noise on random tracks when I play the cd in my car.
I have always purchased albums off itunes store, and then created a playlists of them and burned discs using itunes. It has always worked perfectly. It is also my way of backing up my music.
I bought 3 albums in the past 3 weeks- Every song plays fine on itunes, and on my ipod, but when I burn the songs onto a disc and play it in my car, the song will start playing normally, and then at random times in the songs a loud obnoxious noise blasts through my speakers and scares the crap out of me, but only for a second, then it continues playing normally. It seems to be only random tracks too. The first cd I made, it was tracks 2, 6, and 12. Then I just bought another album, and burned it to disc, and same thing, only different tracks this time, 4, 5, and 10. It's completely random and there is nothing wrong with the discs I am using. I can't for the life of me think of what could be wrong.
Anyone having a similar issue? Any suggestions?
    Thanks!
    Renee

  • I have a strange noise coming from within my 2011 iMac Desktop.

I have a strange noise coming from within my 2011 iMac Desktop. This started 1 week ago and is intermittent. It sounds like an electronic drill. I have removed all external connections and powered up the Mac and just left  it running. Some 2 hours later the noise started. On hitting the space bar on the keyboard the noise stopped. I did a similar test and the noise started within 2 minutes so I have discounted any overheating issues.
With keyboard activity there is an increase in the frequency of this fault.
If you open safari when the fault reappears the URL web link text starts flashing at the same frequency as the noise. This fault can appear with or without the noise.
I’ve been typing these details out on Word and as soon as I went to save  the document the noise started  and as soon as I hit the OK option in the save window the noise ceased.
    Any thoughts will be appreciated.

I think this issue might be related to my wireless Keyboard. have just noticed that certain combinations of keys do not work. The Right hand shift + ? didn't work but started this noise. Hit another key and the noise stopped Also I have problems using the right hand shift key with the letters  Y, H & N , they don't work and are all in line.
So I'm taking the keyboard back to John Lewis. it will be easier to carry that the screen !!

  • Stranger noise

    Hi,
I new user here. I´ve IMac two weeks ago, but with question. When my IMac Start-up the superdrive does a stranger noise. This noise is normal or need exist update in OS X 10.5 leopard?
    Regards

    Hi!
I've found a youtube movie of a Macbook Superdrive loading a disk: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OjdXPOy8Ocw&feature=related
If the sound of your iMac is anything like this when you boot, it means that your SuperDrive is trying to see whether you have a disk inserted or not. It's the slot-loading mechanism that makes that sound.
    Yes it is perfectly normal
    Hope this helped!
    Kind regards,
    Roald
