Lenovo S300: will I have trouble creating a backup image with Acronis

I'm thinking of buying a Lenovo S300
Very cheap and lighweight
I want to update all settings (Windows mainly) and then create a backup image that I can always go back to
Can I do this? Will I have any problems?
I bought an ASUS laptop with no disc drive... and basically, there was no way I could boot up with an external DVD drive or USB
I just wanted to make sure before I purchased
Thanks
Omar

Hi
Which application do you use to create the image?
I use the Symantec ghost and Im very satisfied. I have created an image file which was placed at the second application and if something going wrong Im able to install the OS from the image file.
Furthermore this unit support RAID and the RAID driver must be installed to recognize the HDD.

  • What is the proper way to create a monotone image with real looking contrast?

Once I apply a color to my previously created black and white image everything looks washed out.
I have an artwork with 3D representation of the letterforms, casting shadows on the textured surface. Shadows are deep black. I need this artwork to be colored in gold. My client forwarded me the specs for the metallic gold which he got from the PANTONE. They are:Gold (871); Adobe 1998 RGB: 126-113-76
    HSB*: 44 degrees-40%-50%
What is the proper way of applying those values to the desired image.
My idea was to make the image black and white and than create a monotone image with the above specs. In this case the image gets washed out as the darkest black in the shadows becomes this Pantone gold. Is there any other way?

A duotone will work, however you are going to want to work closely with your printer . Most printers will want the second color in CMYK (Possibly C60 M40 Y0 K100 instead of RGB values or specify a Pantone Rich Black (I personally like 6C)but it will cost you more for the wash up of both heads of the printer...
Go to Image>Mode>Duotone (image must be greyscale first for this to work) then add the desired colors to your ink scales.

I was wondering if I can  create   a rotating image with sevaral images in  Photoshop?    Much like a gif? Would this improve my page load time or would it be the same as loading a slideshow?  Here is an example of what we wanna do vacationsalabama

Yes you can create a gif in PS to do this but it would be much easier to accomplish with some simple JQuery Image slider.
    Several examples here
    and here
The benefit is they load faster, have speed options, and switching images out is a breeze. They can also have links asigned to the images as they appear.

  • Trouble creating a MobileMe Gallery with Aperture

I'm having trouble creating a MobileMe Gallery from within Aperture. In the past it work flawlessly but now it isn't working at all. This is what happens: I create a gallery from within Aperture by clicking on either "New/MobileMe Album, or "New From Selection/MobileMe Album." The gallery is made and appears in Aperture. However, when I visit the MobileMe site the Gallery doesn't contain any images. When I sync it again the gallery disappears from within Aperture all together.
    Any ideas?

I resolved my problem by rebuilding the Aperture Library from the Aperture Vault. Apparently, and this makes sense, Aperture can't build a Gallery if the photo version, or photo itself is missing. I think the reason why it appeared visible is because the Preview file was embedded...

Anyway, if you want to create an "interactive form" using Swing, there is only one thing to do: learn the Swing API. Lucky for you there is a great online resource for that:

  • Error creating a netboot image with System Image Utility

    Hi all !
I am trying to create a NetBoot image from my Panther CD, to boot an old iBook.
I am using System Image Utility version 10.4.11.
I can create a NetInstall image, but when I create a NetBoot image SIU give me an error.
I looked in the logs and I can see the error is generated by the script Applications/Server/System Image Utility.app/Contents/Resources/.preinstall
    This command is the culprit:
/usr/sbin/installer -verbose -lang 'eng' -pkg '/Volumes/Mac OS X Install Disc 1/System/Installation/Packages/OSInstall.mpkg' -target /Library/NetBoot/NetBootSP0/PantBoot3.nbi/mnt -_multiDiscPath /tmp/siuInstallExtras
The error is (as seen in the logs):
This package requires authentication to install.
If I take the command and run it in the terminal using sudo it goes thru, but gives another error:
installer: Cannot install on volume /Library/NetBoot/NetBootSP0/PantBoot3.nbi/mnt because it is disabled.
installer: Mac OS X cannot start up from this volume.
Is this thing supposed to work ?? It seems to me SIU is buggy.
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Regards
    Mike

I'm not digging the new SIU at all yet. Maybe I'll get used to it in time. I couldn't get it to accept a Tiger 10.4.6 Install disc the other day to build a NetInstall. Don't know if I was doing something wrong or if it was instinctively rejecting it because I was doing something unsupported.
I miss NetRestore. I think Mike wants use to use Automator... but I want NetRestore's automated Multicast ASR and Windows image restore. It would take a lot of work to match Mike's shrink-wrapped solution.
Speaking of NetRestore, its creator Mike Bombich advises against use CCC for mass deployment. This may include what you're doing. It's really a backup tool, but unfortunately a lot of people got into the habit of using it for creating deployment images and these often have problems. It's the best tool for create images that you will deploy onto multiple Macs.

  • Cannot create a backup image!

I did a clean install of Snow Leopard after upgrading to a 500 WDC Western Digital hard drive. After installing additional software, I decided to create a base image of my MacBook. I bought a USB Western Digital PassPort 500 MB hard drive, and disabled the virtual CD by upgrading the firmware so I could use the USB drive without no prompts appearing after connecting it to my MacBook. Everything seem fine so far. I booted to the Snow Leopard CD, run the disk utility and it found the USB drive, I reformatted the USB drive to ensure that it was detected, and the Disk Utility had no issues detecting it and then formatting it.
I selected "New Image" and then selected the "Macintosh HD" drive and for "Save to" I selected the Western Digital USB drive. After a brief pause, I received the error" Cannot allocate memory". Anyone else receiving this error? My MacBook is about three years old and has 2 Gig of memory.
Also I had no issues in using this USB drive to create a backup using the Time Machine utility after logging in as an administrator. Note that I have my home folder encrypted, so I had to create a administrator account and log on using that account in order to create a backup of my home folders.
The reason that I want to create an base image using Disk Utility is that I read that Time Machine doesn't backup ALL operating system files like a image created using Disk Utility.
    Rich

I understand what TIme Machine does, and I did create a backup using it but I really rather have an image create from Disk Utility, but I get an "cannot allocate Memory" error after I perform the steps below...
Instructions for backing up to an external hard disk via Disk Utility
Connect an external hard drive (FireWire or USB) that has sufficient free space to hold at least one copy of the contents of your Macintosh HD.
Start from your Mac OS X 10.5 Install DVD. (Insert the disc, restart and hold the C key.)
Select your language. Do not start an installation.
Choose Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
Select the disk you wish to back up (your source disk, such as Macintosh HD) in the source pane on the left.
Click the "New Image" button in the toolbar.
Give your image a useful name such as "04-15-2009 Macintosh HD backup". A date in the name makes it easy to tell when the backup was made.
Note: For additional security, you can encrypt the backup disk image. From the "Encryption:" pop-up menu, select either 128-bit or 256-bit AES encryption.
When prompted enter a password for the encryption: Use the password assistant to help you make a good password, or see this link for information about how to choose a good password. Select "Remember password in my keychain" if you want to securely store the password in the keychain of your external hard drive's admin user account.
Be sure the Save destination is a location on your external hard disk, then click "Save" to continue.
Enter your admin name and password if prompted.
The imaging process will begin. The time it takes to complete the imaging process depends on factors such as the amount of data on your Macintosh HD. Approximately 1 GB per minute will be imaged, depending on various factors.
When the process is complete, quit Disk Utility (press Command-Q).
Press Command-Q to quit the Mac OS X installer; you will be prompted to restart.

  • MDT : creating windows 7x64 images with required applications and deploying it

    Hi,
We have to create windows 7 x64 and windows 8 images with all the custom applications and which can also be used on all the hardwares. I heard MDT can be used. How can I do this and what are the pre-requisites for installion and steps for configuring MDT
    tool ?
do we need ADK for installing MDT ? I tried installing ADK ,but it says you need have ADK documentation_x86_en_us.msi.
    Thanks.

For drivers, I have always used the .inf files.
For applications, it depends upon how you want to deploy them.  Lots of people build their 'gold' image to contain all the applications they want installed, and then use that as a basis for deployment.  Others build special scripts in to select
specific applications based on security groups.
The thing about MDT is that it is very flexible and can be adapted to a lot of different situations.  You first need to define exactly how you plan to use it and then build your image(s) accordingly.
The guides you can find online will assist you in the specific steps for the solution option you chose.  There is not a single, simple answer to cover all cases.

  • Create full backup image for restore

    Hi,
I don't know why I'm finding this information is so difficult to locate. I've really tried to find information on my own but I guess I'll just need to create this post.
What I need is a piece of software, Apple or 3rd Party (don't mind paying) that will create a full, complete image of my iPhone 4. I won't go into the many details for this, they are many. I just want to be able to create a snapshot of my iPhone 4 so I can restore it to the exact state it is in now. I worry that using any software created by Apple will use info from my iTunes / iCloud data storage to create the image..
Let's pretend I have a computer NOT running iTunes. I want to create an image of my phone to transfer to my iPhone that will put it in the exact same state that is / it was before I do any tinkering. My iPhone 4 is not jailbroken. Nothing special.
I'd REALLY appreciate any help you might have that will steer me toward the software I need.
    Thanks.

Well, thanks for the responses. I have been involved and writing code for Windows for well over 10 years. While I'm surrently not a developer I pretty much know what's going on in the WINDOWS software development environment. After MANY years I have learned to respect Apple's environment, in fact I'm actually learning to like it quite a bit. I never thought I'd be saying that.
However, in any software environment I've never gotton an answer to a question that was so direct -"you can't do that." While you may be 100% right but that answer is quite surprising given the fact that many millions of users are using Apple everyday.
There has to be an application that can give me just a cloned file from an iPhone so that it can be restored to the way it was prior to a change that might screw things up. It's the whole idea about creating a backup in the first place. In Windoes we have Ghost images and many more type utilities that will give you a file that can just be reloaded to the device. Rather it be a program, a folder, a disk...anything there has to be something unless Applr has written the whole operating system just to not allow images to be taken and then re-installed.
I really have looked for all of the applications that I find on the web and while most of them give me some of the functionally I need to accomplish creating an image, most solutions are really cumbersome. The Copy-Trans set of tools have this functionallity but haven't been designed to do, what I consider, a crucial task. In general an application would generate a (in my case) 32GB file that, with some other utility would re-load that image so that my phone would be rolled back to the state it was prior to making any other changes.
The functionality I'm looking for really doesn't even involve the "phone" part of the iPhone - it's everything else! I just want an application to get me back to the point I am right now. After generating the image I would then like to make those chages and, if they mess up my phone, I could just load the image created and I'd be back to where I was.Maybe I'm asking the question poorly but to me this is just basic functionality.
What['s important to me is backing up all of the unlicensed stuff on my iPhone. Such as pictures, contacts, notes, data in some applications as well as the apps themselves, music I've actually ripped from older CDs I've purchased and legally imported into iTunes / iPhone 4...To Me BASICALLY everything.
Does this help anyone in making the answer to my question a little more clear? This has to be a lack of a Windows person (Me) to everyone else. As I said the more I get into the Apple world of computing tools the more I think that Apple has done some Amazing things.

  • How to I create a screenshot image with a Mac?

    Hi,
I'm relatively new to Macs. I have yet to learn now to make a screenshot image with a Mac. There doesn't seem to be a Print screen button. How do I do this? Can it be done in the Mac OS? Or, is there a need to install some software to do this?
    Thanks much!

    It's all built in!
Go to the Help menu in Finder and enter 'Screenshot' and press enter.
Lots of articles there, including this one:
To take a picture of the whole screen, press Command-Shift-3.
To take a picture of part of the screen, press Command-Shift-4, then drag to select the area you want in the picture.
To take a picture of a window, the menu bar, the Dock, or other area, press Command-Shift-4, then press the Space bar. Move the pointer over the area you want so that it's highlighted, then click. If you decide you want to drag to select the area, press the Space bar again.
If you press Command-Shift-4 and decide you don't want to take the screen shot, press the Escape key.
Screen shots are saved as files on the desktop. If you want to put the screen shot in the Clipboard, rather than create a file, hold down the Control key when you press the other keys. You can then paste the picture into a document.
You can also take pictures of the screen using the Grab application (in the Utilities folder).
Some applications, such as DVD Player, may not let you take pictures of the screen

  • Unable to create restore disk image with Disk Utility

I've tried three times in order to create a restore image of the users' volume of my Powerbook. I followed exactly the procedure explained typing "man asr" in a terminal window. I booted the Powerbook in target disk mode while connected to my iMac G5 from which Disk utility was run. Every time the disk image creation failed with a log report like this:
    Creating Image “HOME_HD.dmg”
    Initializing...
    Copying...
    /Volumes/HOME_HD: Authentication error
    Initializing...

    Finishing...
    Unable to create “HOME_HD” - Input/output error.
I don't know how my imported music could create such a problem to Disk utility, nevertheless I removed the incriminated song from the Music library but another one raised to be not accessible. Then I booted the powerbook from the supplied Tiger DVD too, and I got an error over the music file, something about an allocation that was 190 instead of 1, I got the volume repaired from Disk utility but the Disk image creation failed again without any hint because booting from DVD does not allow to save log file anywhere. Why on Earth I can't manage such a critical task as back up under Tiger while using Panther everything worked like a charm following the same procedure? Is anyone experiencing something similar?
    Greetings
    Gianmarco

Hi Lee, thank you for your answer, indeed I've just read carefully your article few hours ago, while I googled the net to find some hints on my issue. I think that I've followed exactly the right procedure to make the back up image, and can't find what is wrong. Actually Disk utility Repair disk successfully repaired the allocation bit (whatever that means) of the music files but that wasn't enough to let the creation of the disk image. Quite odd that the music files where recognized as messed up by Disk utility only booting from Tiger DVD and not while the Powerbook was connected to an iMac running Tiger too.
I'll do further investigation during weekend.

  • Upgrading from snow leopard to mountain lion will i have trouble using my Pages and Iphoto since it's not the latest version

I am contemplating upgrading my OS from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion.  Currently, I don't have ICloud available on my computer.  I also keep getting messages to upgrade my IPhoto to '11 version as well as Pages.  I know, I'm behind, but my theory is if it isn't broke don't mess with it.
My concern is I don't want to lose my pictures and YES, I have backed up with Time Machine to an external hard drive.  (I just hope that's good enough).  IF I upgrade to start using ML OS, will I need to restore anything from my external hard drive or will I be able to start using computer as if nothing changed?
I know enough to be dangerous and I'm hesitant to upgrade for fear of losing everything.  Would appreciate help.  Thanks!

Correct, in fact, Lion is no longer directly available from the App Store.
Also, do I need to "empty my trash"  before going forward?
    No need.
