Lenovo S500 SSD

Hi, I've replaced my Lenovo S500 with a samsung 850 evo. The issue is that the Samsung Magician states the following: ----------------------------------------------------------Sata Interface: Sata 6Gb/s(Sata 3) AvailableYou must connect your SSD to a SATA 6Gb/s (SATA 3) port for improved performace. Your SSD is connected through SATA 3GB/s (Sata2) port.---------------------------------------------------------- The HWInfo64 states the following: ----------------------------------------------------------SATA Host ControllerInterface Speed Supported: Gen3 6.0 GbpsNumber Of Ports: 6 SATA Port#4Port Status: Device Present, Phy communication not establishedCurrent Interface Speed: Gen2 3.0 Gbps---------------------------------------------------------- As far as I know, there is only one sata interface in the ultrabook so I am wondering if it is a SATA 2 port. Moreover, I didn't found a second MSata port but there is a second empty port which I am wondering if it is a M.2 port. Thank you,Thanasis

hi formoza,
Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.
According to page 37 of the hardware maintenance manual, the Lenovo B570e supports a 2.5 SATA SSD (the mini PCI-E slot is for WLAN/WWAN only - it doesn't indicate that it supports SSD signaling).
See Crucial's SSD Upgrade for the Lenovo B570e.
Best regards,
neokenchi

  • Is the Lenovo 128GB SSD worth it?

Is the Lenovo 128GB SSD worth it, or should I buy the default hard drive and buy a third party SSD?

Does the Lenove SSD not include trim support in the firmware?
I'm kind of pissed that Lenovo makes you buy Windows and keep it on the hard drive to receive official support (or so I was told at Office Depot). I'm only interested in using Linux right now but am concerned about the specialized Laptop functions not working and requiring Lenovo support. I'd like to put the original HDD in a caddy as a backup drive and buy something else to run off of. My main concern with SSDs is reports (like from Tom's Hardware) that SSDs are so poorly implemented at the consumer PC level that they actually increase the power draw.
Does anyone have experince using an SSD under Linux in their X201 and care to share their experience with battery life?

  • Help -- I have a Lenovo Samsung SSD MZ7PC256HAFU on HP laptop -- ssd firmware will not update

    1.  i tried updating the SSD firmware by doing it with the samsung magician software --- it does not see the SSD
    2.  then i tried doing it with the Lenovo iso found here:
    http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?LegacyDocID=MIGR-69806
this supposed ISO file was not recognized by my main ISO burner.   another burner worked but my HP laptop still will not bood from this ISO dvd.
    3.   then i called Samsung.   they  told me that because this Samsung SSD is Lenovo OEM branded, that Samsung software will not work any more to update the firmware.
    Anybody?    Thanks !

You will probably have to find a Lenovo branded system (laptop).
Attach the Lenovo branded (samsung)  SSD.
Boot using the Lenovo branded ISO.
Return SSD back to your HP system.

    Hi telstra,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
U410 Support mSATA SSD so You'll need to open up the Base cover to gain access of the card
Here is a Youtube video on how to open it up
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1sGwQBiGw-Y
at 2.16 you'll find the SSD disassembly.
For Transferring Windows to the SSD
You can try Paragon Backup & Recovery 12 Home (free trial) as other users have tested it on their Lenovo unit (see this thread).
Change the Boot order so your unit will boot from the SSD
    Hope this

  • T530 with Lenovo 256GB SSD OPAL FIPS who makes the drive ?

Here in UK, the T530 is available with a Lenovo 256GB says OPAL and I believe its FIPS certified.
    1. Any Idea who the actual manufactures this drive ?
    2. I dont know too much about encryption, is this drive secure ?
    3. Some people say the Intel SSD has built in encryption is that secure ?
    4. Im also looking at W520, prefer the keyboard .If I order just a 320GB 7200 rpm drive,
very briefly how do I go about setting up software encryption ?
    5. Which is more secure hardware FDE or software FDE ?
Thanks in advance for your assistance
Heres the link for the drive
    http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/controller/e/gbweb/LenovoPortal/en_GB/catalog.workflow:item.detai...
Please see drive choices below for T530.  For the W520 - there are no FDE Hardware options given.
320 GB Hard Disk Drive, 5400rpm
    [add £2.40]
320 GB Hard Disk Drive, 7200rpm
    [add £15.60]
500 GB Hard Disk Drive, 7200rpm
    [add £169.20]
128 GB Solid State Drive, Serial ATA3
    [add £324.00]
Intel 180 GB Solid State Drive, Serial ATA3
    [add £384.00]
256 GB TCG OPAL Solid State Drive, Serial ATA3

    1.  The 256GB OPAL SSD is made by Micron.  It can either do encryption by OPAL if you use OPAL management software, or else you can simply set a HDD password in BIOS and it will act as a standard self-encrypting drive like Intel 520.
    2.  It's secure unless you use a weak password like "1234"
    3.  Read this about the Intel SSD and decide for yourself if you consider it to be secure or not:  http://communities.intel.com/thread/29953
    4.  The easiest way to do software encryption is to buy Windows 7 Ultimate and use BitLocker.
    5.  I would argue that hardware encryption is more secure and has fewer side-effects than software encryption.

  • Lenovo X1 SSD

    Hi All,
I was wondering if this is a common fault with the lenovo X1 Intel core i7 8gb Ram.
ive had the laptop about 6 months now and 3 months in to buying this laptop I had my first problem.
For some reason the Intel SSD that was inside my X1 decided to die on me.
the laptop started up fine but when it got to the PXE Boot screen it wouldn't detect that I had a hard disk.
I then got it sent back on warranty and got the SSD Replaced.
Now however 3 months later I've had the same issue reappear SSD isn't working again and it seems to be the exact same issue.
What I don't want is to get it sent back on warranty again only for 3 months to pass by and the issue to reoccur.
Could someone advise what could cause this fault and if there is any other option than to get the SSD Replaced again as I don't want to be reinstalling my system every 3 month's.

what is the model of your SSD drive?

  • Lenovo s500 ideapad won't start after windows 8.1 upgrade

Hello, our school is lending us a lenovo notebook to use in school for work.
I tried to upgrade the computer from windows 8 to windows 8.1.
After the update the computer  it gives me a blackscreen on startup and after a restart it restores to windows 8.

I have the same problem  with my S500
Lenovo and Microsoft both have no idea how to fix this.
Both said we just have to use 8 . But i really like to use 8 to the fullest, so I want to upgrade to 8.1

  • Lenovo G780 SSD Upgrade

    Hello,
I have purchased a 512Gb Samsung 840 Pro, and I am not sure how to get a new copy of Windows 8 onto it without re-purchasing the operating system.
Basically, I want to do a FRESH install of Windows onto this SSD, because of the bad experiences I've had with hard drive cloning.
However a fresh install raises a couple of questions.
First, Lenovo has put custom optimizations (like BIOS optimizations, faster start times, faster shutdown times, sleep times, etc) into the system. When I do a fresh install of Windows, will I lose these Lenovo system optimizations?
Second, how would I get a copy of Windows 8, since it is already installed on my machine by the manufacturer, would I still have to buy another copy for use?
    Thanks in advance.

    hi kuakeye,
If you're G780 came with a regular 5400RPM HDD then Installing 512Gb Samsung 840 Pro SSD will make your PC boot much faster as the read/write speed of the SSD will outperform the regular HDD (you PC will be much faster even if you lose the custom lenovo optimizations).
In doing a fresh install, you will need to have one of the following:
    1. A recovery disc - you will need to contact lenovo for this (fees may apply)
    2. If your PC came with a Win8 Standard, you can borrow a Windows 8 standard disc to clean install Windows 8 (Windows will be automatically activated via the OA3 key or you can activate it by phone).
    3. If you have a Windows 8 retail key, you can create a bootable Windows 8 disc / USB using this method and use it to clean install the OS on the SSD.
    Best regards,
    neokenchi

  • W510 can't install W7 onto new Lenovo 256GB SSD

So I have a brand new Lenovo (Toshiba) 256GB SSD. SSD THNSFC256GAMJ.  Lenovo Part Number 45N7990. When I attempt to install Win7 onto on my W510 Type 4389-A97 it says there's no drive to install to and asks for a driver. I can't find a driver anywhere. The 160GB Intel SSD I have works fine.  Is there a driver I need? If so, where do I get it from? I can't even find reference to this drive on the Lenovo site yet is has a Lenovo part number.

    hey StuartHickson,
is the Win7 which you're trying to install your own disc ?
anyway, have you made recovery media for your W510 using Rescue & Recovery? If you have, then I would like you to use those disc first and restore your unit.
once that is one, try installing W7 on your unit.

  • Lenovo IdeaPad U310 Intel Rapid Start Technology with WIndows 7 Ultimate

    Hello,
I have upgraded my Windows 7 Home Premium to Ultimate. Got it in my domain and everything seems normal . But I wanted to check the options of that energy saving settings and can't find any information about, when does my computer go to hibernate. He does use the stand by, but for how long? Until the battery is low? That makes no sense.
The computer must go in hibernate or is this with ultrabooks going other ways?

    Hi
I have further investigated  and  found a solution for hibernation
In order to enable hibernate in Lenovo Machines SSD support models, you will need to restart and Enter into the BIOS Setting
    1. Press Fn+ F2 to enter BIOS
    2. Choose "Configuration > SATA controller working mode" as "RAID";
    3. Select "Configuration>Intel Rapid Start Technology", choose " iRST Support"  and "Entry on S3 critical battery event" as "Disable";
. It will then automatically return to an available Windows power options setting. However, iRST (Intel Rapid Start Technology) does not have the ability to wake a system from hibernate.
Now restart the system and you will find hibernation option is enabled under power option
    Hope This Helps
    Cheers!!!

  • Best SSD for T410 at the moment?

    Hi,
    short questions:
What is the best/fastest SSD for a T410 at the moment that i can order from Lenovo?
And if i dont order the ssd from lenovo but buy one from market what is the best that fits in the 410?
T410 only supports 1,8" right? Are there any problems expected with a not lenovo certified ssd?
And is there a list of the original manufacturer of the Lenovo SSD's so i can look for Tests?
    Thank you for your help!

    The T series will have SATA 3 controllers (420, 420s, and 520).
Physical size doesn't matter for speed.
1.8" should be every bit as fast as 2.5".
The 3 things that modify speed are:
    -Capacity (bigger = faster)
    -Controller (some faster than others)
-Connection (SATA 3 SSDs work slower in SATA 2 mode)
I don't think that Intel will release 510's in 1.8", though that might change in time.
Also, in terms of the T410s, the only thing you have to worry about is battery life. You can't have a 9-cell battery in the T410s but you can in the standard T410.
You also need a 1.8" drive for the T410s IIRC whereas the T410 can take any 9.5 mm x 2.5" SSD you can throw at it (also, the T420s has will have a similar problem when it comes out since it's got a not-that-common 7mm bay but the T420 can take 9.5mm drives as normal.)

  • Lenovo 256 Solid State Drive Part Number?

I purchased a Lenovo 256GB SSD. The part number that I ordered was 43N3417.
When the drive arrived, the part numbers on it did not match.
The part number is 45N7990 and FRU is 45N7991.
The drive is a Toshiba drive that was made January 21, 2011.
Its marked as a 256GB Solid State Drive.
Can anyone confirm that the part number 45N7990 is a Lenovo part number?
Does Toshiba make the SSD for Lenovo?
Is this a true Lenovo drive or some knockoff drive?
    Thank you,
    Mike

    I'll chime in.
I ordered a 43N3417 256GB FDE SSD directly from Lenovo in May, 2012. The box that arrived said P/N 43N3417 but had the Part # 45N7990 / FRU # 45N7901 part inside just as described earlier.  It is labeled as an 256GB FDE SSD made by Toshiba.
The box said it was "Manufactured for Lenovo" 2011-12-16.
I also have a 2nd 43N3417 unit which arrived the same way so this appears to be what Lenovo ships for the 43N3417, perhaps depending on supply..or either they have a bunch of boxes with mislabeled parts inside.
    Later.

  • Changing SSD to another computer (T430, disk is MZ7TD128HAFV-000L1)

    Hi,
    I am having some trouble.
I recently upgraded my SSD to a newer one, and therefore i have the shipped one as a spare (MZ7TD128HAFV-000L1).
So i wanted to put that SSD in an enclosing, but other machines arent recognizing the SSD.
    Not even the original hostmachine.
The only way i can access the SSD is by placing it in an ultrabay, in the original host. (others wont work either).
Can any one tell me whats wrong?
My guess was that it was protected by password, or TPM or something. But ive tried alot, and i cant get it recognized in any other machine.
Please help me!!!! Isnt it possibly to use the original lenovo (samsung) SSD in another machine? Seems stupid.

    Hi, coretp
    Don't worry.
Firstly, check out SSD firmware version.
    Read the page below:
    http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/ht082504
In your case the reason of fw upgrade is another one then listed above, but new fw might resolve issue you've faced with.
