Lenovo Servers + webStorage

A while ago I asked SpiceHeads how their role changes in the summer. I got tons of great responses, with a lot of them mentioning how the summers are used to work on big projects.
With summer coming to an end, are you done with your big projects? What else do you need to work on before the school year starts?

I am working on a research to find the brand offering the most reliable server for midsize companies.
Below are a few pain points:
1. Server downtime: either degrades performance or puts applications offline
2. Delayed projects due to system errors
3. Increased expense of trouble-shooting reliability related issues
Please share your thoughts or reports if any.

  • VIBE X2-CU Lenovo services only in Chinese without English language option

    Happy New Year to All
My Christmas gift was a Vibe X2. Now I'm one of a few German ladys who own a Vibe X2 in Germany  I learned that I use a Chinese version of the phone instead of a European version.
However, a lot of features work very well e.g. phone calls, messaging, email/ exchange, google play store, notification center, security, camera, wifi and so on.
But, there are some features which I can't  use because they are completely in Chinese and I definitely can't read Chinese
    These are:
    • Lenovo Smart Assistant, Mobile Assistant
When I install the Lenovo Smart Assistant from the European Lenovo Site then the Lenovo_Suite.exe starts automatically. And it is in Chinese designed from LENOVO Beijing limited and related to http://sj.lenovo.com/ I really would like to use this pc assistent instead of other available mobile assistant versions for android phones but I can't use it in Chinese language.
    • Lenovo THEMECENTER
There are few parts which are in English, but the most parts are in Chinese.
I also have some problems with the Lock Screen. It doesn't matter which Lock Screen I use it disappears immediately after entering the pin for the sim card. And especially the bubbles ui lock screen doesn't work. When I use the list button on the left corner of the phone => theme => lock screen => bubbles ui/ 泡泡 only the little girl appears but no bubbles.
And the last problem is LTE 4G doesn't work. As I seeked out the phone uses TD-LTE:B38, 39, 40, 41MHz, FDD-LTE:B3, B7 MHZ and I learned that all TD-LTE bands only work in Chinese mainland. However, the FDD-LTE bands should work in Europe and so I started looking for a signal and running arround outside. I burned a lot of calories and got a lot of fresh air, but i did not found a signal. Does a FDD-LTE band which is integrated in a Chinese phone work in Europe?
It would be really nice if there is somewhere outside who could help me with these issues, please!!! I'm not a computer genius so I probably can't install a new EU-ROW version. It would be great if there would be other (software) solutions.
    Best,

    Hi,
I just want to share my experiences with the above posted problems and possible solutions. Do not hesitate to correct me if I'm wrong!!! And sorry for the mixture of problems and the long post
Lock Screen I was able to reactivate the Bubbles UI Lock Screen by changing the default language from German to English US. I really don't know why this works, but it works. Now I can see the Bubbles UI on the Lock Screen. That's a nice feature, but I'm not sure if they are able to learn. The displayed applications are not the one I use really often. We will see....
FDD-LTE:B3, B7 MHZ which are integrated in a Vibe X2 CU version should work in Europe or in Germany, respectively. So if the phone provider supports FDD-LTE:B3, B7 there should be a 4G signal even in a Vibe X2 with a CU rom version. I haven't found a signal yet. But I keep trying. And I will improve my physical fitness by running around and looking for a 4G signal
Theme center and Mobile assistant To my knowledge there is no simple or easy way to change the Chinese language into English language or to connect the applications to other Lenovo servers which provide the English language. At the moment possible ways to deal with the problem are:
Wait and look for a EU rom version for X2-CU model which also supports dual-sim.
Learn either Chinese or prepare yourself to root your phone with a new EU version (if available). But be careful you will lost your warranty if you do so and probably brick your phone if your are not competent enough to root a mobile phone
Don't buy a Vibe X2-TO or X2-CU if your are not able to read and understand Chinese and if you would like  to enjoy the full functionality of a Vibe X2
If you know better solutions, information's or ideas please do not hesitate to share!!! There will be many users and Lenovo friends from different markets who will be very happy!!!

  • VRealize Operations Management Packs for Lenovo Compute and Lenovo Network Switches

     Lenovo Systems Management Community Members:
Blue Medora is currently developing a two new and distinct VMware vRealize Operations Management Packs aimed at Lenovo datacenter technology -- a vROps MP for Lenovo Compute as well as a vROps MP for Lenovo Network Switches. Our target is to release both vROps MPs in the September timeframe. Both of the MPs will support vROps v6+. If vROps integration with Lenovo Compute and/or Lenovo Network Switches is something that is relevant to you, our product management team is very interested in talking to you about what aspects of the Lenovo-based compute and network infrastructure you like to see surfaced in vROps, models of Lenovo servers and network switches your your organization most commonly leverages, as well as any specific troubleshooting / diagnostic use cases you have around Lenovo compute and network.
Please drop us a line at [email protected] if you'd like to participate in a pre-release program for the vROps MPs for Lenovo Compute and Lenovo Network Switches.

Sorry for being a bit slow in responding. Adapting the settings for my wired ethernet adapter as rdhw suggested solved the problem. (But since I am not using any wake-on features, I simply opted to turn them off instead.)
Interestingly, I had previously looked at these settings in the BIOS and turned them off there (forgot to mention this), but it appears the Device Manager settings were overriding the BIOS settings.
So, I still find Access Connections to be slow (it will take maybe half a minute or so to figure out what is happening when I switch between wireless and wired connections), and also getting the X200 to go to sleep takes more time than it used to do (it used to go to sleep momentarily when I, say, closed the lid, whereas now it will need to think for 10-15 seconds first), but at least everything works reasonably well now.
Which is nice, and I don't want to break anything that I don't have the time to fix, so I think I will leave it at this for the time being. Thanks so much for the help (and for the prompt reply)!

  • Need Help: TS130 Server and Windows Server 2008 R2 64 Bit Problems

I have 2 TS 130 Lenovo Servers with Xeon 3.2 Ghz CPUs and 16GB of memory. Installing ANY version of Windows 64 Bit after a couple of reboots will cause the system to blue screen. Once it blue screens it is impossible to get back into Windows.
Get this. Installing ANY version of Windows 32 bit works just fine on either machine. I have swapped out ram, hard drives, raid on raid off, updated BIOS etc and the same exact issue on both machines. I have swapped out media thinking maybe it was just a bad disk, but after 3 copies of Server 2008 R2 64 and 2 copies of Windows 7 Ultimate 64 and 3 copies of Windows 7 Professional 64 bit and THEN the same problem occurring over and over on BOTH servers.. well needless to say I am pulling mu hair out. These are ALL OEM copies by the way not burned copies.
I called Lenovo Thinkserver support as we are a partner, and their only suggestion was changing some legacy settings in the BIOS which of course has done nothing. I have changed every setting in the BIOS that I feel it could possibly be and still no joy.
Thinking it MAY have been a video problem, I have even went so far as to add new video cards to both machines and the problem still exists on both machines. All drivers are latest versions, and I am getting tired of getting everything setup, and then BAM BSOD.. I have been a tech for 25 years, and I have NEVER seen this issue on any machine ever..
As far as the BSODs, one time it will be the language pack error, next time something else, and the next time something else.. no way to nail down the problem.
I KNOW its a machine error, especially when 32 bit runs fine on either machine, but what it is I have no clue.
I am hopeful someone here has had the same issue and can tell me what they may have done to solve the problem. It is absolutely driving me up the wall....
Thanks in advance for ANY help or suggestions.
    Mike at Mitek Computers

Never mind.. FINALLY found the problem. Even though I swapped out media etc as far as Server 2008 went, I always used the same COA key.. guess what... English media and Japanese key.... snafu on our OEM vendors end I suppose.
Anyway I was issued a new product/virtual key through Microsoft and it resolved the issue.... stupidest thing I ever saw...

  • RE: RD 330 Rail Kit too long for the application space

This is my first time posting, I hope I have submitted this to the correct forum..
    My situation:
We have a Middle Atlantic Rack system model RS-46-28, with 46U and a center unit depth of 23.5 in, the Lenovo servers we are using (RD340E1Us, 3 of them) have a minimun span on the mount rails of 29.5 in, in order to get the servers mounted (correctly!) is there a alternate rail kit for the smaller depth of 23.5 inches, or do I need to purchase 3rd party rail kits.  The servers are configured and production ready, switching them, is not a workable option.
Any experience with this rack system or situation?

    Hi Gus,
I am not familiar with the rack you specified, however here is some information on our rail kit:
"The rack cabinet must meet one of the following requirements:
    • Standard 4-post (square-hole), 19-inch rack configuration compliant with EIA-310-E as defined by the
    Electronic Industries Alliance
    • Standard 4-post (unthreaded round-hole), 19-inch rack configuration compliant with EIA-310-E as defined
    by the Electronic Industries Alliance"

  • CS5 Chinese to English Language Option?

    Hi everybody,
I'm an English native currently living in Taiwan, and I'd like to purchase CS5, but there are only Chinese copies available to buy.
My question is: does the installation DVD come with an English language option?
I've reading Adobe's specs and I guess not, but I found some posts here that suggest there's an English fallback option by placing a specially named text file in a certain location post-installation.
Just to be clear, I don't want to use two installation languages, it's just there's no choice at purchase, and my Chinese isn't good enough (yet ) to understand all the technical interface terms.
    Thanks in advance.

  • TS-140s PCIe Whitelist?

    Hi,
I've just got the first of my TS-140s today which we are planning for lab use. We need to connect these servers up via 10G NIC and/or 4G Fibre Channel. I know these are low end servers but we tend to use SAN connectivity for our lab servers (currently mainly use HP and Dell).  We may also need to use PCIe SSD in two of them for a special project.
I've just ordered some PCIe cards but a colleague has just told me Lenovo servers will only work with Lenovo PCIe cards and that all other 3rd party cards are blocked via the BIOS "whitelist".
I've never heard of anything like this so I suspect he is mistaken.
I quickly tried a Intel NIC I had spare in the PCI slot and that appeared to work OK.
Can somebody just confirm ,that subject to the usual compatibility type issues that may occur - Lenovo do not block PCIe cards in TS-140s ?
    Thanks...
PS really like the TS-140 form factor and the Intel Xeon 1225v3 looks like a good CPU for this class of server.  Also think this is the first server I've seen quiet enough for home use.
    Moderator Note; subject edited

I just thought I'd add some info to the discussion and reference some others that have also had this issue:
Here is a review on Amazon.ca by user "Typhoon".
    http://www.amazon.ca/THINKSERVER-TS140-TWR-E3-1225-3-1G/dp/B00FE29IWK
"Similarly, the Ethernet Adapter cards are also picky. Lenovo only recommends the Intel i350-T2 or i350-T4 cards. I tried a Intel PRO/1000 gigabit 4-port adapter card that was PCIe 1.0 and it would not even post the BIOS. I tried a DELL i350-T4 and that one also failed. I recommend that you use only Intel Branded or Lenovo branded Ethernet Adapter Cards to avoid the hassles. I have no experience in these TS140's with other card mfg. like SYBA."
He also posted a similar statement for the i3 version of the server on Amazon.com.
Here is a comment on the forums of homeservershow.com:
    http://homeservershow.com/forums/index.php?/topic/6161-lenovo-thinkserver/page-2
"I also tried a Intel Pro/1000 PCIe card which did not work in the TS140.  It was a PCIe 1.0 card which is supposed to work with PCIe 2.0 (backward compatible). It didn't work in any of the 3 TS140's that I put it in but did work in another server that had PCIe 1.0 slots.  I believe that any cards going into these boxes will have to be PCIe 2.0 or they will not work.   I have not tried out the PCI slot on the M.B. yet to see if anything will work in that."
Here's another referencing at least knowledge of the issue:
    https://www.astaro.org/gateway-products/hardware-installation-up2date-licensing/52702-use-lenovo-ts1...
"Also I have seen reference to problems with Intel PRO 1000/ PT cards. Is that a system specific or general issue and does it affect all cards (single, dual, and quad)? The PT cards are the only ones in my price range."
And a convoluted response here in the next post:
"the box should work without too many issues. The Intel NIC issue is some chipsets are waiting on a new driver to overcome a card restart.
There are fixes posted if you suffer the problem, which usually only comes under heavy load. The fixes as far as I know haven't changed change some settings on the chip."
I have no idea what fixes are posted and what they could have to do with NIC load or drivers.
Anyway, here's a statement saying that the cheaper (relative to Lenovo prices) Intel i350-T4 (probably made by Sybase?) work well on this machine:
    http://www.orderfactory.com/articles/pfSense-Snort/network-perimeter.html
"What makes the Lenovo TS140 an interesting choice for pfSense is the recent appearance of Intel i350-T4 controllers, shipped directly from China, on eBay and similar sites, at prices three times plus less expensive than US retail."

  • Update Retriever - how to hide specific updates?

    Hi,
while reading the System Update Deployment Guide, I stumbled upon the possibility of hiding updates from automatic downloading into the repository. As there are certain software products distributed via lenovos Servers, which I do not want to install onto our companies' computers, I would like to let Update Retriever skip these updates.
I wasn't able to find the described funcionality in the program yet. Does someone of you know how to hide those updates?
    Thanks in advance,
    mat_ban

Allan, as far as I can see it only allows me to include or not include Metadata by checkin the box in the Image Export window. I want to include most Metadata, particularly my name and copyright. There is one field where I keep my notes that I do not want to send with the photo. This is where my dilemma lies.

  • Windows 7 on RS140

    Hallo.
Im new to Lenovo servers and just bought a RS140 for a "experiment".
So i thought i could just plug in a seagate SAS drive, boot from windows 7 install disc like i normal do.
But when i get to the point where i have to choose what disc to put windows on, i cant get any disc to show up.
Am i missing something here? Is it lenovo drives only or something on these servers?
    Thanks

If you have RAID 100 (onboard), it does not support SAS drives. Also you might need driver for RAID to boot / install Win 7 ...

  • Monitoring and Management

Is there any software available for Lenovo servers like Dell's OpenManage to monitor fans, power supplies, disks, and RAID controllers?  I could find anything on the support site or Google and spent 45 minutes on the phone with a lot of clueless people that just kept transfering me between Lenovo and IBM.
    Solved!

    I have the same question...
I called support and I told the rep that we are jumping the Dell ship and require a monitoring soultion like Open Manage the guy had no clue  on what to use to monitor the server.
I found LSI megaRAID app for the onboard RAID but it appears that I need to purchase the advance option for alerts... Really

  • System updata error

an issue on the new t410...
I have several softwares which can only be run on the xp-system (the original OS is win7pro)
however, I have a critical problem with the system update
    everytime is gives a message
"System Update - An error occurred while gathering user information "
I have tried many possible methods as I can find by internet search, however, they do not work at all..
    What is happening here??

That (rather uninformative) error message usually means the version of TVSU you are running is too old for the version on the Lenovo servers.
If you are running an older TVSU (maybe one that came w/an XP downgrade) go to the support site and install the newest version.  Hopefully that will get you going.

We are interested by the ThinkServer RD540 70AT SATA, but I have some questions about the SATA and I didn't find answers.
    This product interest us:

My client have already 3 HDD SATA 3.5" (500 G), we want to buy the server, but without HDD.
For this reference, does that the server is ready to accept SATA HDD 3.5" in the hot swap ? Drives trays hdd are include ?
Thanks per advance for your reply.

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hello,
This may work, but you need to ensure the backplane on your system will support the 3.5"HDD as there is also a backplane that supports the 2.5" HDDs.  Also I must warn you that the use of 3rd party hardware on Lenovo servers has not been validated or tested so we cannot guarantee that the 3rd party hardware will function as expected in the server. Also, keep in mind, using 3rd party hardware could possibly void the warranty if something does go wrong.

  • Vista Update / Rescue & Recovery Fail

Last year (March 2008), I purchased Lenovo 3000 N200 series laptop (Model: 0769-BWG or TY2BWUK), with Window Vista Home Premium.
Last week, while Window Vista was autoupdating my laptop, it fail to update it. While shutting down it was reverting back changes. I try to let it finish auto-update procedure, but it fail to recover. Finally after waiting for 2 hours, I power off the laptop and try to restart it. To my surpise, it could not load Vista. By using advance boot sequence, i tried to load vista in safe mode (which failed), then I tried to load it using safe mode with DOS command prompt logging... It was stopping at windows/system32/crcdisk.sys, after that it could not progress it. I could not able to load vista... Finally, i tried using repair options available in advance boot sequence (which tried to look at bad sectors in hard disk). It could not find any problem with hard disk.
Finally to go back to original factory condition, I press on Lenovo care button (Priviously I could able to copy my personal file to my external hard disk using dos commond). I tried option, Rescue & Recovery>Full Factory Restore. Again, it did not proceed... It starts the process, clears agreement page, and then ask for Click next to proceed... then it goes ----------- BLANK----------- NO progress on bar... Last message says 'Preparing Hard disk for recover...'. While checking boot log through advance boot sequence>safe mode with dos prompt, it is stopping at disk.sys
Now, I am not getting vista boot options from my C: also.
Is there anyone encouter such problem? I could not see any options available now... otherthen contacting Lenovo support now. Any input will be highly appriciated... Thanks.

guys, there is a new release 4.21, are you talking about it?

  • Lenovo x86 servers can help improve your bottom line

The Alinean study shows that migrating from older HP Integrity servers to Lenovo x86 servers helped ... A majority of the savings came from reduced hardware/software purchases and maintenance costs. In some cases, companies will be able to purchase new and highly efficient X6 Enterprise servers for less than what companies are paying for annual maintenance on their current HP servers.
If you are moving to higher density servers, are you seeing a reduction in the physical size of your data center? Or are you maintaining floor space and adding more capacity? What types of servers are within your data center?   What factors most in your operational costs ?

Maybe I didn't understand you, but why are you putting a file with 50000 rows as one single BLOB into a DB? Don't you think it's time for a new table?
