Lenovo support question?

2 questions! First how do I contact a Lenovo support person here in the US? Second, is it possible to go back from 7 Home to the original 7 Starter?  S10-3, upgraded to 2 G/Ram  thanks, Bill

Bill,
To answer your very first question - you can contact customer services by phone - the details are on the Lenovo website.
Now, regarding restoring back to Win7 Starter using OneKey:
I've got an S12-ION, which comes with Win 7 Home Premium, not Starter, but I understand the situation is essentially the same.
That is, if you select the 'Restore from Initial Back-up' option, it will overwrite the C: drive with whatever was there to begin with (when it came out of the factory).
In your case, if your machine ships with Windows 7 Starter, then Windows 7 Starter it will be.
Now, if you still have the OneKey Application installed in Home, then you can use that to make both 'User Back-ups' (of whatever is currently on your C: drive), or you may use it to create a 'Factory Defaults Recovery Disk set'.
This, the Factory Defaults Recovery Disk set, does something similar to 'Restore from Initial Back-up', except you'll need to boot 'into' the first disk of the set - it will then overwrite the entire contents of the HDD.
It's main use is for if you want to replace the HDD or if your current HDD gets corrupted, and, again, it will restore the drive to the state it was in when the machine left the factory.
To make (or use) a Factory Defaults Recovery Disk set, you will need an external CD/DVD burner (or just a reader when performing a restore).
You can also use the OneKey application to make a 'custom recovery disk set' using a previously created user back-up file.
So, if say you want to buy an SSD to replace the HDD with, if you first make a user backup of your current HDD, then make a recovery disk set from that user backup, you can then replace the HDD with the SSD (or a different HDD) and then use the custom recovery disk set to get back to where you were.
NOTE: there are two parts to OneKey - a windows Application (that you may or may not still have installed (it should run if you press the OneKey button whilst in Windows, if it is installed)) and the Boot-time program (that's what runs when you press the OneKey button when you machine is off).
Oh, and I think the version number you're seeing in OneKey is not your Windows 7 version number - it's the OneKey software version number - it just happens to be 7 point something.

  • Trying to understand Lenovo support - I just need a basic question answered

I have a few Thinkstation S20 desktops that are now out of warranty and I am trying to re-purpose them for lab machines.  These desktops do not have any Windows 7 product key stickers on them and I would like to put Windows 7 Pro on them.  I assume they probably were shipped with Windows 7, but these came from another office in our company and they might have been ordered as CAD workstations.  However, if they are allowed legally to have Windows 7, I would like to install it.  With our older Dell's systems, we can go into Dell's website, put in a service tag and see the original configuration.  There doesn't appear to be this simple way of doing this on Lenovo's website...is there?
What is the deal with Lenovo support?  I've had some awful experiences and this one is no exception.  Read on if you are interested in the absurd support details...
So I call the main Lenovo 800 support number.  After I give the lady all my information, she says "oh, this is a thinkstation, and you are in the wrong department...let me transfer you".  So, after a long hold, I get another person on the phone...I go through all the information on the system in question, explain that I am trying to find out if this machine came with an OEM Windows 7 license.  After a few more minutes, she now tells me "Oh, this is a Thinkstation...I cannot support those...you have to call a different phone number".  She give me the phone number (which is the ORIGINAL phone number I called!!!) and tells me to push option 2, then option 1, and put in a machine type of 4155, even though the machine type is really 4157.  I confirm with her that she is giving me the wrong machine type, but she insists I use that one.  So, I call back the other 800 number, go through ALL the information a third time, and she tells me these machines are out of warranty.  I know they are out of warranty, I just want find out if they came with Windows 7 Professional!  She says she needs to transfer me to the software department.  I get put on hold again, and then have to give ALL my information to the NEW person for the 4th time!  After a long hold, she finally gets back to me and tells me this is a CTO model and customizable by the customer.  She then says her records show it came with Vista.  This machine was built well after the release of Windows 7...I have no idea how it came with Vista, and she says I need to call the vendor and find out why there is no sticker on it.

    Hi jbobst,
if you go to the support site, http://support.lenovo.com/us/en, or click on support at the top of the forum you will be able to search on the model type of your system after selecting Search by Machine Type Model.
If your system is a CTO, Configured To Order, this wont unfortunately tell you which OS was preinstalled in which case you can use Parts Lookup; this will usually state which OS was installed. For Parts Lookup only the first 4 characters of the MTM are required.

  • Lenovo S206 Waranty & Support Question

I bought Lenovo IdeaPad S206 before circa 1,5 years over Amazon Germany.
I am living in Vienna, Austria.
The device got broken and it needs repair.
I tried to check the warranty over Lenovo web page, however I couldn't find the serial number on the S206.
So the first question is -> where can I find the serial number of S206?
Furthermore, I got two papers/books when I bought the device - on the first stands "Begrentzte Herstellergarantie von Lenovo" (sthg like "Limited Warranty from Lenovo") and the second one "Notice Regarding Extenden Warranty".
On the second paper stands "Your computer is covered by 2-year (extended) warranty..."
Therefore, I suppose, since I bought the device appx 1,5 years ago, that the warranty is still usable.
Third question - where can I send the device for repair? I am living in Vienna - is there any Lenovo Service Center in Vienna? If yes, can somebody please provide the contact? Thx!
If not, where is the nearest lenovo sevice center, and can somebody please send the contact info?
Furthermore, is there any Lenovo Service Center in Sarajevo (there is a possibility I could take it for servicing over there as well)?
    Looking forward to your answers.
    Best regards,
    A.

I still have problem with both finding the right serial number and with contacting support in Bratislava.
    1) Regarding serial number, I tried to find it by typing the following command in CMD: "wmic bios get serialnumber". It yielded a 12-digit number. When I somehow succeded to contact Lenovo support in Bratislava, Slovakia, and when I told them the serial number, the answer was - "No, that can't be, because the serial number has to start with two letters".
I repeat - neither on the front nor on back cover of the laptop are any information/serial numbers. Moreover, the battery cannot be removed, because it's integrated in the device.
Question - who is right here - I or the Lenovo Supoort employee? If I am not right - how can I find the serial number?
    2) The listed number on Lenovo sight for support in Bratislava is not the right one (0800 197 462)- it is not in use more. (At least that is the message I got when I tried to call them from Austria. I was dialing 00421 0800 197 462 and 00421 800 197 462).
    I somehow googled the following number: 0850 232 406. This number is also not functioning. I was dialing the following numbers from Austria: 00421 0850 232 406 and 00421 850 232 406.
How I spoke to the Lenovo Support employee? I first had to dial +421 2 68 68 800 number (reception) and than they transfered the call to the support (after listening to voice answering machine for about 10 minutes.)
I just want to do one simple thing - get the confirmation that I CAN send the laptop to repair in Bratislava (my warranty should expire in December this year).
    Looking forward to replies.
    Regards,
    A.

  • Lenovo System Update and Lenovo Support RSS Feed (X60)

Okay. I got Lenovo System Update (version 5, for Windows 7) and it did not offer me any Critical updates. Only Recommended and Optional ones. If it ain't broke, don't fix it, so I don't want to install Recommended and Optional updates, only the Critical ones if there is any.
On the other hand I also have the Lenovo Support RSS Feed. But they bring me to dead links. For my X60 the two drivers in my RSS Feed are
ThinkVantage Access Connections patch for Access Connections Version 5.95 for Windows 7 (32-bit, 64-...
    Patch module for Power Manager for Windows 7 (32-bit, 64-bit), Vista (32-bit, 64-bit) - ThinkPad -
    Both are totally dead links.
The tricky part is that there is absolutely no correlation between the two: totally different drivers in the System Update and the RSS Feed.

    Hello both,
SU has been discontinued because old SU version wouldn´t work with SP2.
Refer to this thread in at the ThinkVantage board regarding this situation and possible solutions

  • Serial Number not accepted by Lenovo Support/Warranty Lookup

Trying to e-mail support about my G505s but it will not accept my SN as valid despite the fact I bought it from a reputable retailer. Lenovo Solutions can't access my warranty information, either. Help?

    hi Wonk,
Got your PM. It's odd that there's no info on your machines' serial number but the message Multiple devices found - Please enter Machine Type Information on the warranty lookup page may indicate that the serial number hasn't been registered on the system yet. This usually happens if the unit is brand new or refurbished (indicated by the letters RF on the machine type (eg. 59RF0637)).
If you purchased the system in the UK, I recommend you fill up the form below to register the system and contact the lenovo support center and report the issue.

  • Lenovo support site, warranty lookup and warranty service unavailable for 72 hours?

Hello, I've got a newly purchased Lenovo Yoga 2 13 with a confirmed hardware issue. I'd like to take advantage of the on-site support I purchased and it appears that's currently impossible. Here are the issues I've encountered.
I began at the Lenovo Support site: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/
I tried the Check Warranty Status tool ( http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/warrantylookup ) just to verify my new laptop and warranty are accurately listed in Lenovo's systems. No luck, the form has been returning a "Service Busy" error for the past hour.
I then tried to submit an Online Service Request ( http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/submitrequestonline ) to schedule the repair. Again, no luck. The page is broken and has no form or links on it (see below). Same result in multiple browsers over the past hour.
I finally called Lenovo technical support. Doing that was difficult because the support phone number is not listed anywhere visible on the Lenovo Support site - I had to find it through the FAQ here in the forum. The phone rep asked me some questions and then suggested I work with the vendor where I purchased the laptop. But it was purchased from Lenovo.com, so this is Lenovo's problem. The rep then informed me that the Lenovo technical support system is "being upgraded" and will be unavailable for the next 72 hours until Tuesday 8/12. I was unable to get a case number and will need to call back or submit a new request online (when and if the online form is repaired).
A next-day, on-site warranty is kind of pointless of it takes 2 business days before you can even request service. Not a good first impression, Lenovo. How about acknowledging the "system upgrade" on the support site or forum so customers know what's going on?

Does anyone know of any other options, or do I need to send my phone back to a service centre in Australia?
For a warranty claim, there is no other option.

  • Lenovo Support detailed specs

    Hi,
I was able to dig this out of the dusty corners of the site:
    ThinkPad T43 (2668-F7G)
    P M 760(2GHz), 512MB RAM, 80GB 5400rpm HDD, 15in 1400x1050 LCD, 64MB ATI Radeon X300, CD-RW/DVD-R Multi-Burner, Intel 802.11abg wireless, Bluetooth/Modem, 1Gb Ether, UltraNav, Sec Chip, FPR, 6c Li-Ion, WinXP Pro
I was unable to find a link to the Western Europe withdrawn models that goes far enough back for a T43
Sorry, that's the best I can do.  Maybe someone has a copy of the old ltwbook_WE.pdf stashed somewhere.  (If there even was one - not sure about that.)

  • Lenovo Support - Laptop problems

    Good day,
I was hoping someone could help me I phoned Lenovo support centre and I was disconnected,
My laptop has an issue with Blue Screen ; while working my computer it just gives me a blue screen saying "Your PC has run into a problem and will restart.  My PC restarts and then  I carry on working.
I don’t know what the problem may be I have not changed anything on this laptop it is stock standard. I have Windows 8 which was installed on the computer, I have Microsoft office 2007 which was given to me by my IT if anyone can help me or guide me please.
Also I bought my laptop in about June of this year.  My warranty will be finishing off in November I spoke to a lady by the name of Mennatallah and she advised me she will be sending me an email with details where I must send my receipt to so that my warranty can be amended.  Could someone help me in full here or get someone to sort out my computer problem?  I am not phoning support again just so that I can get hung up on...

    hi Shearidan,
From the screenshot, the main causes of the BSOD's are btsokrnl.exe, ndistapi.sys, and hal.dll, in which, are essential windows system files.
From this source, here's a background on the BSOD:
0x00000124 - "Windows passes on the hardware error report in the form of a "stop 0x124" because it can't do anything else once the hardware has signalled an uncorrectable fault condition. In technical terms, the vast majority of stop 0x124 crashes correspond to "Machine Check Exceptions" (MCEs) issued by the processor to alert the software to the existence of a hardware problem. It's possible for drivers to indirectly induce hardware to register MCEs by "driving" in ways that are confusing to the hardware"
This crash can be a hardware fault or a driver issue. To isolate, try to:
    1. Run Windows Update to get the latest patch and bug fixes
    2. Follow this guide on how to run Driver Verifier
    3. Reboot the machine and observe the computer.
If the BSOD re-occurs, perform a clean boot and observe the computer again.
Let me know how it goes.

  • Lenovo support doesn't respond!!!!!

Lenovo support is very lack to respond any issues in this forum or via email inquiries.
My case is sitting there for 3 weeks and no response. Hope they will take the laptop back and give me all my money.

    Hey swooosh,
i'm not that good in techie stuff but to my understanding , this >>
    " [ 1.652354] ata1: SATA link up 3.0 Gbps (SStatus 123 SControl 300) "
would refer it to be SATA revision II ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serial_ATA ) since it gives a theoretical speed of 3.0 Gbps.
It is true that the x120e's tech spec did not mention that it is SATA III capable, but i do believe it did mention (indirectly) it was SATA II capable as per this tech spec >> http://www.lenovo.com/shop/americas/content/pdf/system_data/x120e_tech_specs.pdf
under the topic of [SATA Disk] which mentions >>
"Some: Solid State Drive (SSD) / SATA 3.0Gb/s, 2.5" wide, 7mm or 9.5mm high, upgradable
Some: Hard Disk Drive / SATA 3.0Gb/s, 2.5" wide, 7mm or 9.5mm high"
i hope that this answers your query

  • Horrible Lenovo support

I had to send in my laptop to Lenovo twice to get a broken hinge repaired. I got it back after 3 weeks! After I got it back I was getting the message that my Windows system might not be genuine and I need to reenter the windows key. I looked through all documentation that I had and found not windows key. I called Lenovo support again.
When I spoke to the CSR - a lady - she said she was so sorry and I needed to send in my laptop in - no hard drive, no battery and no power supply.
I sent it in (Sunday) and after 5 days I checked the case and found out I needed to get in touch with them. I called on my case and was told I needed to send the hard drive in to fix the problem. At this point I went to a local PC store. The sales rep explained that the product key on the bottom of the laptop is the windows key and that there was no need to send in the laptop. I immediately called Lenovo (Friday) again and asked to get the laptop mailed back to me. I was promised it was sent overnight and they were sorry that they did not tell me the simple solution. On Saturday my laptop did not arrive. I called again on Sunday and was promised again that it will be mailed back immediately. I requested to speak to a manger and he also apologized and promised again to send it back. On Monday I checked again the status of the case was still that I need to contact them again. I called and went through the same discussion again. Each phone call last between 20 and 30 minutes, because the rep needs to check on something and puts me on hold.
I have seen bad press about Dell, but I had Dell before and never experienced something so horrible as with Lenovo. I don’t know when I will get back my laptop.

    Looking at the support site for your system I see;
    Product: ThinkPad T60 2007-EP1
    Original description: Based on 2007-J2U: T7200(2GHz), 1GB RAM, 80GB 5400rpm HD, 15in 1400x1050 LCD,
    64MB ATI Radeon X1300, CDRW/DVD, Intel 802.11abg wireless, Modem, 1Gb Ethernet,
UltraNav, Secure chip, Fingerprint reader, 6c Li-Ion, WinXP Pro.
The clue is the "Based on". You need to select the fan for the J2U system which is 41W6407, you will see the entry in the list against that number; 2007-J2x.
The website for service parts I link to was "Last modified:  2010-03-04"

  • Is there any way to contact verizon with a detailed cell phone technical support question?

Is there any way to contact Verizon with a detailed cell phone technical support question?  I prefer e-mail so as to provide details (like I am trying to provide here).  I have tried in-store personnel (no help at all) and the web chat - they just want to see me more data instead of helping me with my basic problem!
I CAN NOT GET ANYONE FROM VERIZON TO GIVE ME ANY HELP NOR CAN I FIND A WAY TO FILE A COMPLAINT.  AT THIS POINT I JUST WANT TO DROP MY VERIZON ACCOUNT BUT I'M SURE THAT IT WILL COST ME A SMALL FORTUNE TO GET OUT OF IT.
    Here is my issue:
Chat transcript removed as required by the Verizon Wireless Terms of Service
BELOW IS A SCREEN COPY FROM REDDIT ABOUT SOMEONE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM WITH A VERIZON CELL PHONE
So last night my RAZR MAXX HD did something totally bewildering by spontaneously downloading 2.6 GB of data over the course of ~ 3 hours. Fortunately I was able to catch this problem before it ended up being really expensive, but I still exceeded my 2 GB data plan by 600MB.
    The Culprits:
Reddit News Free: 160 MB foreground / 0.96 GB background
Android OS: 0 MB foreground / 1.18 GB background
Several unnamed applications: ~ 350 MB
    Screenshots:
    The massive data spike
    Android OS data usage
    Reddit News Free data usage
    Weird unnamed processes
    Detailed timeline:
5:12 PM: Incident begins according to VZW data usage website (2.60410 GB used). This is around the last time that I used my phone at the laundromat before getting dinner and watching Game of Thrones.
8:04 PM: 50% of data allowance used (txt msg)
8:31 PM: 75% of data allowance used (txt msg)
8:58 PM: 90% of data allowance used (txt msg)
9:13 PM: 100% of data allowance used (txt msg)
10:05 PM: Got the text messages and immediately put the phone into airplane mode
    10:30 PM: Took screenshots
10:45 PM: Enabled wifi, installed Kaspersky premium. Scan returned no threats.
11:00 PM: Left phone in airplane mode, went to sleep.
    The questions:
What was the root cause of this issue? Did Reddit News freak out as a result of an esoteric bug or was my phone hacked?
If this was a simple Reddit News bug, then why was the Android OS also trying to use such a massive amount of background data?
What the hell are these unnamed numeric applications? I've inspected my process history and this is the first time they have ever attempted to use data.
I'm pretty sure that I can explain this situation to Verizon and get out of having to pay additional data usage fees, but I would like to know more about the problem before I get in touch with them.

All I can think is your phone may have background downloaded an OTA update, and you'd then be prompted with something like, "As update to your Android system has been downloaded, would you like to install it now?"
I do find it very odd that the update would be 2.6GB. As a rough base, the CyanogenMod 10.1 firmware for your device is well under 200MB, so unless Verizon has a ****-ton of bloatware in the update, or it had to attempt to download multiple times for some reason, it may be a stretch.
But doing a little homework, it looks like the Verizon Razr Maxx was updated to 4.1 in late March. Maybe they're still rolling it out in waves? Have you gotten the update yet?
Edit: Aaaand I just noticed you appear to be running an AOSP-based ROM, which totally rules out a carrier update being sent out.
Edit2: If you want to live dangerously, you could try running:
    #kill -9 12289
That 12289 is the PID listed in your screenshot. But don't run that without fulling understanding the kill command.
The ps command could also be of use, but probably not.

I can confirm that the phone is currently at 4.1.2 and that I wasn't prompted for an OTA update. The fact that both the Android OS and Reddit News processes were simultaneously using an extremely large amount of data is unlikely to be a coincidence...

That is very curious that the spikes happened at the same time.I'm curious. It may have put at least some of that 2.6GB somewhere. You could use a data visualizer tool to see if you can find it, which may lead to more clues.

    The largest directories are:
DCIM: Normal looking photos (90,825 KB)
Android: Primarily map cache data (64,846 KB)
If it was downloading content then it did not significantly save content to storage. It's not like I have anything particularly sensitive on the phone, but the idea that it was uploading a snapshot of my data definitely makes me uncomfortable.

Yup, Digital Camera IMages and videos.Somewhere in /sdcard/Android would be my guess as to where a mysterious file would be downloaded, but if it's only 64MB, and mostly map data, I'd safely rule it out.I'm sorry, but I'm stumped here.Edit: I should mention I don't think this is malware, because unless a malicious app gained superuser access, any data it used would show under it's own apk in the data usage list, not Android OS.

Was it trying to auto-upload pictures or video to G+?I ******* hate that.

Although I'm not really up to speed with the Android platform, I come from a UNIX background so I feel comfortable running commands. How do I pull up a bash terminal? Do I need to root the phone first?

There's a number of terminal emulators in the Play Store that work well. You don't need a rooted phone to get to the shell as your user, but any privileged command won't execute unless you can grant it permission from the Superuser app that is installed when you root the device. So you could probably do a ps -e, but not a kill -9.

Got it. I downloaded a terminal emulator but unfortunately those processes no longer exist.Does Android keep a generic log of system level events like /var/log/syslog?

I don't think so, and I know you'd need superuser permission to read most of the files in /var/log anyway. I'm not super familiar with how Android does its logging, but I do know that the two files of interest are the logcat and dmesg.

Want to mention here that using your settings to set your data cap (set it on your billing day), then you won't go over again. Those text messages are really unhelpful, as they send out well after the data has been used. Chances are good you hit close to the 2GB mark before you received the bulk of the messages.

That's definitely not the case here; both my PC and and Android phone are free from pirated apps.

You used the data.  Verizon can not see what it was sued for.  However your phone can see whats apps used the data.  go to settings-data usage- there will be a place that says data usage cycle.  line the dates up with your cycle.  then there will be a bar graph below that   extend bother white bars one all the way to the left and one all the way to the right.  after those are extended below that will be a list of apps,  there should be one that used over 2 gb and that will show you what app used that data in her purse

my mac's keyboard is not working with my mac.the green light blinks and i cannot get onto my mac. everything on the support questions does not help because i cant go on the mac and i cant sign in

If you can't sign in, then you can't troubleshoot and/or pair the keyboard until after that........ so, for that, you will need to borrow someone's USB wired keyboard in order to get signed in and to the Keyboard Bluetooth Preferences.

  • Fixed - bent connector - S12 ION poor wireless performance - Lenovo support no help

    Hi forum,
I received my Thanksgiving deal S12 ION last week.  The size and format are perfect, the overall performance just what it needs to be, but the wireless performance is unacceptable.  I work for IBM, and have a T60P work laptop and two Y430 laptops, all of which have perfect full bars of wireless signal throughout my house.  But this S12 ION has only three bars in my office next to the wireless G router, and only one to two bars in the next room.  From any other room in the house I cannot connect.
I verified that I have the most recent wireless drivers installed.  The ones it shipped with are the most recent on the Lenovo support site.
I called Lenovo technical support.  After waiting on hold, I was connected, then dropped after another 30 minute on hold.  The second time I called in, I was told I needed to turn on the wireless using the switch.  I informed the tech that I was already connected and that the issue was poor signal.  He then suggested removing Lenovo readycomm, but that is not installed on this S12.  Finally he told me that this is just a netbook, not a laptop and that if I do not like it I should return it.
I am so angry with this poor support I would return it immediately, if it were not for the 15% return fee.
Does anyone else have wireless issues?  Am I mistaken about this being a nice wireless connectivity tool?
At the price I paid, $399, I can dump this on eBay, but I am seriously disappointed.
    Solved!

    Hi Forum,
I opened the wireless card slot after reading in other netbook forums that some have had loose antenna connectors. At first I thought that was what I had as one of the leads, the black one, was not seated. It turns out that the connector on the wireless card was bent open.
    See pics:

I bent the ring connector closed, reattached the antenna lead, and now I have great signal. Thought you would be interested in the pics.
I am going to call Lenovo and ask them to replace the wireless card, as there is no guarantee the connector is not damaged, but it is working fine for now.
