Lenovo T400 How can I partitionate my HDD?

############## SOLVED ####################
With "EASUS Partition Manager"
Hello guys,
since days I´m looking for a conclusion but i didn´t find anything.
I have a Lenovo Thinkpad T400 with a partition C: 228 GB.
Now i want to spit this partition e.g. into C: 100GB and D:128GB. Programms like Partitions Magic don´t work, because of the partitiontable.
Is there any way to partitionate my Lenovo, without cleaning the whole system?
I can´t shrink them, because in "diskmgmt.msc" there is no option shrink on C:, because it is the primary system i think.
I hope you can help me,
Peter

Interesting.  I have never had a problem with Partition Magic.  It has read and been able to modify any partition table so far.  I would say you might want to look into this further because that is not normal behavior of the program, and by far it is the easiest way to go.
Usually the Vista partition manager has to work around system files in use which generally means that you can only shrink a partition by so much before it comes to a file block it can't move while the system is active.  Partition magic gets around this by partitioning after rebooting and before windows starts.
Again make sure you backup data before you do this.  It is a pretty reliable process though.

  • How can i see the hdd, attached to my airport extreme, on the internet?

I have an Airport Extreme installed with a HDD attached.
I can see the disk and manipulate files when logged in at home.
I want to use it as a storage for current files (and more) which I need every day.
How can I make this visible over the internet and reach it from other places?

In the 5.6 utility you should be able to see everything via the advanced pages.
It will not log the name so you will need to work out from your Mac which user corresponds to which MAC address.

  • How can i move my HDD and not get all exclamation marks?

I am having issues with my mouse and keyboarda nd need to plug them into the motherboard USB ports. But I was told earlier today that my external HD has to be in the one it was in when I synced it up, so if I move it across to a different port, how can i stop it from giving me 17000+ exclamation marks?

You probably don't want to run your external through a hub either. As long as your external drive is assigned the same drive letter iTunes should find the files on it but I noticed your other thread where someone suggested that you should use the same port as earlier. What happens if close iTunes, switch ports, confirm you have the same drive letter then restart iTunes? What other devices do you have that assign drive letters? Windows may assign these in a particular order as your system boots up but you should also be able to take control and assign a specific letter to a specific device.

  • Lenovo G550 - how can I run three monitors

I've just bought a Lenovo G550 and am running Windows XP Pro on it.   So far so good.  I'm quite happy with it as I think it represents good value for the money.
I have been able to run two external monitors on my G550 laptop - using the VGA port and the HDMI port.  But I can't get my laptop monitor to work to make it a third monitor.  Has anyone had any success with this and if so how did you do it.
    Thank you.
    Dovetail

Assuming, for the purposes of discussion, that the application allows you to display six windows, one for each stock, then if you were to use two 27" monitors, would the six windows properly arranged in the two monitors be sufficiently large to serve your purpose?  Your active window areas would be on the order of 900x500 pixels, assuming one of the plentiful 1920x1080 monitors.
Your other option would be two additional PCIe video cards.  From page 64 of your user guide, note the following:

  • How can I remove the HDD password?

Did anyone know how I must reset the Toshiba 2.5" SATA or IDE password?
Or how I can use a password protected HDD?

I am sorry but the last poster is incorrect. You can remove the password as follows :-
    1) Start the computer
    2) Enter the BIOS
    3) Scroll down to HDD Password box
    4) Select "REGISTERED" in the password field
    5) When prompted enter the existing password
    6) When prompted for the new password press the "backspace" key" once
    7) When prompted for the [assword the second time, press the "backspace" key once more
    8) A message to say that the password has been changed will appear and the word UNREGISTERED will appear in the password field
    9) Select "exit and save"
At the next power up you will not be asked for the password.

  • How can i access my hdd hooked to my airport extreme base station at home, from another place,office,school..?

i have an airport extreme base station ,i conneted a hdd and i want to acces the hdd with my macbook from another place ...office...school....

I would appreciate if someone could tell me how the AirPort Extreme differs from any regular router.
The AirPort Extreme is a combination router, wireless access point, and Ethernet switch. It also provides both external USB hard drive and printer sharing. So, it is not much different than most other routers on the market today. The one main difference is how you administer it. Unlike most other routers that employ a web-based administration interface, the AirPorts use a dedicated utility, called the AirPort Utility.
I do not have any OS X devices, but I have a lot of iOS devices.  If my understanding is correct, I can set up the AirPort from an iOS device.
Yes. There are versions of the AirPort Utility for OS X, Windows, or iOS devices.
Also, I need to know how I would connect my Synology NAS system to the AirPort Extreme network via an Ethernet cable.  I would need to be able to acces the files on the NAS through Windows clients.  My Synology NAS currently has a web interface....would I still be able to access that web interface with the AirPort?
Your Synology NAS would connect to the AirPort Extreme pretty much the same as for any other manufacturer's routers. That is, you would connect it to one of the available LAN (opposing arrows) ports on the Extreme. You would still use the same web-based interface as before.
Note: When connected to an Ethernet port, the NAS would still function as usual. The AirPort Extreme would not provide any file sharing functionality when connected in this manner. All file sharing features would be the responsibility of the NAS device.

  • How can I partition internal HDD after installing Windows 7 Professional via Boot Camp 4.0?

I recently purchased MacBook Pro 13" (Late 2011) model with OS X v10.7.2 Lion installed. I've upgraded to OS X v10.7.3 Lion and updated all other software.
I require Windows 7 for some Windows based softwares that do not support Mac OS X. Therefore, used Boot Camp 4.0 to install Windows 7 and then tried partitioning single internal HDD  to have 3 partitions (4 total including BOOTCAMP partition). Disk Utility created a 648.5MB partition and then I was able to create 3 other partitions of custom sizes. After applying these changes, I got an error message that said selected volume size is too small. I resized this 648.5MB partion to a custom size and had total 4 partitions, including BOOTCAMP.
After reapplying these changes, BOOTCAMP partition was removed and I was left with only 3 partitions and empty space.
I've tried several different ways to partition the disk, all in vein. Is there a way I can partition my single internal HDD after installing Windows 7 Professional via Boot Camp 4.0?

You can't do what you want with GUI utilities, which will only allow a total of 4 partitions due to the limitation of MBR needed to support Windows. Those four partitions: EFI System (hidden), Mac OS, Recovery HD (hidden), Windows. So with Lion, you only get two visible partitions if you're going to use Windows with BootCamp. You can't make anymore with the included graphical tools.
If you need more partitions you'll need to use something like GPT fdisk (gdisk) to create the partitions in the GPT first. Then add the Windows partition only to the MBR and flag it as bootable. gdisk can be googled and downloaded for Mac OS X off sourceforge. It is not a GUI tool.

  • How can I delete my HDD?

I have quite an old MAC that was running really slow. The rotating disk would take forever to go, I'd write a word in pages that would take a few minutes to appear (not good as I write on it for a living). Yesterday I decided to just buy a new machine and I opted for 27" 5K retina display with the aim being to clear off the old machine and give it to my brother.
However, no matter what I try, I can't seem to access Disk Utilities on boot up? I have the install disk in the drive and I have pressed "alt" as told in the Apple store but that didn't work. I then tried pressing CMD and R, as some sites suggested and various other button combinations mentioned by help sites.
I tried opening the disk when the machine was loaded but there was no option to simply go to Disk Install there - just options to install OS X so that was no good.
I can access D.U on the main computer but the HDD I want to delete is greyed out meaning I can't erase it.
Has anyone got any suggestions please? Really at a loss with this one.

Boot from the original installer disc that came with the computer.
Booting From An OS X Installer Disc
    1. Insert OS X Installer Disc into the optical drive.
      2. Restart the computer.
      3. Immediately after the chime press and hold down the "C" key.
      4. Release the key when the spinning gear below the dark gray Apple
          logo appears.
      5. Wait for installer to finish loading.
    Drive Partition and Format
    1. Boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Apply button and wait until the process has completed.

  • How can I run a HDD diagnostic tool on the iPod.

    Hi,
    According to this page:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93936
There would be a possibility of doing a diagnostic check on the harddrive. However, the page doesn't say how and I didn't find any article explaining how to do it.
I tried reseting the iPod to default settings but when it's done, the Apple logo shows up, then the www.apple.com/support/ipod is shown then the thing turns off.
I don't want to have a brick ipod, please help!

Problem is, most of the test results are pretty meaningless because they're not meant for the end user, just Apple techs.

  • How can I turn off HDD power management at boot and resume?

From what I understand, putting 'hdparm -B 255 /dev/sda' in /etc/rc.local is not the way to do it (and probably won't work for resume from suspend). What is the recommended way to do this?

    You could try https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/systemd-hddapm

  • How can you brand a serial number onto the system board?

I just replaced a system board and need to brand it with the appropriate serial number.  How do I accomplish that?  I have software to run when I do that with Dells or Lenovos.  How can I do it with an HP?

    Hi:
You cannot tattoo a HP notebook. It has to be done by an authorized HP tech service center where they have a DMI tool for that which is not available to the public.
You can tattoo some HP business desktops with this software, link below. It might work on HP consumer desktops but I don't know since I have never tried it on one.
    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=12...
This program makes a bootable floppy disk, and cannot be installed via any other method than a FDD or USB FDD.
It works on many other HP business desktops other than those listed. It has been used successfully in PC's up to a couple years old.

  • How do I Setup USB HDD on Airport EXTREME TIME CAPSULE? USB HDD Not showing up

How can I get the HDD to work with my airport extreme?  Does it need formatted a specific way for mac?  Are there certain hdd types that work best with the I have a WD usb hard drive which doesn't show up when connected to airport extreme.  I'm trying to setup time capsule, but Having no luck.  I'm new to the Imac.

    A couple of pointers.
The hard drive must be specifically formatted in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) to work with the AirPort Extreme's USB port. Check the documentation that came with the drive to find out how it is formatted at the present time.....it is likely formatted to work with Windows, which is not compatible with the AirPort Extreme.
Unfortunately, even if the drive is formatted correctly, Apple does not officially support Time Machine backups to a drive at the USB port of the AirPort Extreme, so that will be the next hurdle to deal with.
Some users actually do seem to be able to make this work, but overall, it is not a reliable method to backup your data if it is important to you.

  • [RAID 0 issue] - K7N2 Delta ILSR:how can i save my RAID-0 SATA DISK datas

Hi all, as a new member, i have to underlign the fact that this forums' members are very active and helpful ( personally, i thank the front usb issue post author    ).
I've an XP on a single SATA RAID-0 disk ( Promise Fasttrak 3xx duno ), since a few days, i think that the DRAM controller is KO because the mobo doesn't accept DDRAM anymore ( DDRAM is OK on other PC ). The Mboard makes long & regular beeps and i have no Video ( no BIOS & no POST ), the D-bracket indicates  no memory module or memory damaged ( case 4, led 4 is the only green ).
If u have an idea to help me..
If there's nothing more to do, how can i recover the HDD's datas ? They are very important..i've heard that the disk should be plugged on the same raid chipset ( the better is the same Mboard )
Please can you help, and sorry for my French-english
EDIT: I'll fulfill w/ more specs this WE.

Just plugging/unplugging the memory somethime solves the problem. You could have had a bad insertion or just dust in the slot. Good luck with your working computer
I already answered your RAID concerns. RAID0 with only 1 HDD is no RAID at all, just a software trick to force the controler to use the drive.

If your drive is raid0, but only 1 drive, it is no RAID at all, so it should work like any disk on any computer and be recognized normally.

  • How can I install Windows XP on my Lenovo IdeaPad S10-2 with all partitions deleted?

    Lenovo Masters:
    Good day to you all.
I would like to ask how can I install WinXP in my S10 (no DVD drive)?  First, I want to share that I committed the mistake of using it without any anti-virus software installed.  As a result, it bugged down.  Now in my attempt to reformat it and make it as fresh as day one, I followed the steps on how to make a bootable USB drive.  I was not aware that this unit is only compatible with WinXP (I tried to upgrade to Win7).  And in the process, I deleted both partitions of the HDD.. Now I'm receiving the message "windows was not able to detect a hard drive.. blah.. blah.." dead end for me..
Can anyone grant me his/her generosity and enlighten me on what to do? Badly need help.. Thanks!

you should format the partitions, i think, you haven't done it so, windows can't detect any harddisk installed or your harddisk is dead.
try to format the disk by using windows installation ( usb ) and try to install again.
also, check if you see your hdd under bios ( press f2 to load bios, then check bios order )
ordering recovery discs won't help you due to you don't have any dvd-rom. i suggest you to call lenovo support line and ship your laptop back to service to reset your harddisk to its default.
( lenovo may charge you )
