Lenovo T400 Wireless Conncetion Problem!

Hi, I have a Lenovo T400 Laptop. Recently, I got some problems in connecting to wireless networks. My laptop can find available wireless networks. I can see "Access Connections" menu with available networks. When I click on "Connect" to access a network, a menu bar appears showing that WIFI is trying to connect to the network. However, after a couple of minutes the connection fails in "waiting for IP configuration" step. I tried it with different networks and got the same problem. I would be very grateful if someone can help me about this problem. Regards, Ali

Okay, that sounds like a faulty intel wireless card, i had couple of them doing that. Do you have warranty remaining?

Jin Li

  • T400 wireless conection problem

I reload my T400 with Windows xp.sp2 recovery DVD. Then upgrade to xp.sp3 and renew all drivers(bios & firmware) with the latest at Lenovo website.
After that, I have problem for wireless connection after startup. Browser shows "website xxx, found waiting for reply...",  no connection at the end. My wirelesscard is Intel(R) WiFi Link 5300 AGN, T400 27671G.
Checking the system event viewer, it gives an error & warning:
    -------------------Service Control manager
The SessionLauncher service failed to start due to the following error:
The system cannot find the path specified.

Your computer was not able to renew its address from the network (from the DHCP Server) for the Network Card with network address xxxxxxx.  The following error occurred:
The semaphore timeout period has expired. . Your computer will continue to try and obtain an address on its own from the network address (DHCP) server.
    Anyone has the same issue?
    Appreciate any advice...

    Hi LANOgre,
firstly the link you provided goes to empty place.
I have this Lenovo T400 new ThinkPad and its detecting all Wirless routers in my neighbourhood but not my new Netgear Super G WGT624 wireles router.
I have another laptop Dell Latitude in the same household 630 with Which I can connect to the Netgear router.
What is the reason, if there some kind of mismatch in the Wireless drivers, or its the hardware.
I am stuck up with Laptop and the router.

    Please help me.

    hey costin83,
the Win 7 cd was it made through Rescue & Recovery or did you buy it on your own ?
the T400 of yours, did it come with Win 7 or with Win XP ?
If the Win7 cd is your own; try it on a a different computer and see if it works. It could be that the cd itself is damaged.

  • T400 wireless hardware problems

It seems that my wireless adapter is not detected at all - almost feels like 7 small gnomes came the other night and silently lifted it out of my laptop! There is simply no network adapter in Windows Device Manager, the green wireless led indicator remains switched off at all times. I checked that I have not disabled wireless hardware switch (I have not, and bluetooth works just fine), and that I have not disabled it in BIOS (reloaded BIOS defaults to be sure). Furthermore, it was working fine until today when it suddently died. Does anyone have a faint hope that I can solve this without involving Lenovo Tech support? I am running Windows 7 (and Ubuntu 9.10), neither of which now detect my WLAN card. The WIFI card was manufactured by Realtek, it is 8192E model, came standard on my T400.

    Hi blackdoggy,
    Watch out for those gnomes!
Have you sent your T400 in for service? Looks like you may have.
Was thinking it's possible that your WiFi card became loose in its internal slot. Another member recently fixed a similar problem by removing then re-installing his WiFi card. The Hardware Maintenance Manual (available from Lenovo Support downloads) has instructions, and you can watch a video at:
    http://www.lenovoservicetraining.com/ion/
(Look at the video for the T61 / R61, which is physically nearly identical to your T400)
The WiFi card is considered a customer replaceable unit, and it will not void your warranty to remove/replace it.
    Best regards,
    Frank

  • [SOLVED]Lenovo t400 tp_smapi & hdaps problems

I noticed there are many people here who run thinkpads.
I am the proud owner of a thinkpad for 2 months now and i run arch linux on it togeter with kde4.
But the thing that's bugging me for a 2 days now is that i can't get tp_smapi to work.
I followed the wiki exacty but i get an error if i try to load it
FATAL: Error inserting tp_smapi (/lib/modules/2.6.31-ARCH/extra/tp_smapi.ko): No such device or address
Now i found this solution: Thinkwiki
But i dont know how to apply this solution on arch linux..
And i also get this error when i try to load the hadps module for thinkpads:
FATAL: Error inserting hdaps (/lib/modules/2.6.31-ARCH/kernel/drivers/hwmon/hdaps.ko): No such device
But i think that the second error is because tp_smapi doesn't work
Does anyone has any idea how to fix this?
Last edited by Miitch (2009-10-19 19:21:53)

I  never have to recompile tp_smapi, however with every new kernel you've got to do the following:
    [kuba@t61p ~]\$ cat linux/bin/fix_hdaps.sh
    #!/bin/sh
    path="/lib/modules/$(uname -r)/"
    rm $path/kernel/drivers/hwmon/hdaps.ko
    cp $path/extra/hdaps.ko $path/kernel/drivers/hwmon/
    /etc/rc.d/hdapsd restart
hdaps module gets bad path by default.
    Hope that helps.

  • Lenovo T400 LCD Problem (shut off and bezel light abnormality )

Hello !!! This is regarding a problem with the Thinkpad T400. The problem is -- When the lid is at ~65 degrees , everything works fine. Whereas , when the lid is raised to viewing angle of arounbd 90 degrees , it goes to sleep AND , I noticed that the bezel lights (wifi , bluetooth , Cellular , Caps Lock etc...) also turn off , this normally never used to happen before. Even while the laptop is about to go to sleep, it will keep the bezel lights on till you can see the moon light. Now, even while sleeping , I can't see any moon light.  If you have a valuable input , please do share it with me. Excuse me for any spelling errors as I have to bend my head doewn to peek under the display and tyoe .. -- it's painful Thanks a Lot!!!! Matt

    Hi ChrisMatthew,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community!
I find this issue could be with LCD cable, if you have enough knowledge on system hardware you can check with reseating on both the ends (On LCD panel & System board).
If you are want to try on that then you can also do it with the help of Hardware Maintenance Manual.
Please click here to visit the link where you can get the list of support contact numbers, select the respective region and give a call.

  • Problem 1/2 with lenovo T400s = strange sound

    Hello,
my new lenovo T400s works quite fine. But two things are getting on my nerves!
The first problem is a very strange sound. It's not very loud but its a very aggravating sound! In some forum posts people explained the reason of the strange noise is caused by the switching between the c2 and c4 processor state. So I tried the kernel option
    processor.max_cstate=2
But the sound is still there.
I would be very very glad if someone could help me. Every hint is very welcome.
    tia and greetings,

I have a problem. I want to upgrade my Lenovo T400 2768-BQ4 to a WiMAX and a Wireless USB. I want to know everything else about my specific computer too. Can you help me here?

    Hello and welcome,
You may find this interesting/helpful:  SUPPORT -> Quick Path "2768-BQ4":
    Based 2768-12U: T9400(2.53GHz), 4GB RAM, 160GB 7200rpm HD, 14.1in 1440x900 LCD, 128MB ATI Radeon HD3470, CDRW/DVDRW, Intel 802.11agn wireless, Bluetooth, Modem, 1GB Ether, UltraNav, Sec Chip, FPR, 9c Li-Ion, WinXP Pro

Among other things the HMM lists the cards that will pass the BIOS whitelist (that will prevent booting if a card isn't listed) and the required FRU numbers.  A card must be of the right model (for example Intel WiMAX/WiFi Link 5350) and have the Lenovo FRU (43Y6533 for this example).  Please note that I'm reading this from the manual - I have no way to personally verify these numbers.   I don't know if your existing antenna assembly will work with this or other wimax cards.  Please do your homework

  • Lenovo T400 cannot authenticate with WRE54G

I recently got a new Thinkpad (Lenovo T400) and am having trouble getting it to authenticate with my Range Expander (WRE54G).  My Xbox360 and my wife's laptop have no trouble authenticating with Static WEP but I cannot.  If I move towards my Router (WRT54GS) and select that access point it authenticates and picks up an IP address no problem.  What's up?  Thanks.

Which operating system you are using on the laptop ?
Which wireless card you are using on the laptop ?
If you are able to see the network name on your laptop but unable to connect then you can try updating the wireless adapter of your laptop as your other wireless devices are working fine.

  • ATI HD3400 in Lenovo T400: xf86-video-ati from testing docking issues

    Hi everyone,
I have a Lenovo T400 which I exclusively use with the discrete ATI HD3400 graphics chip because I need the DVI output from my Lenovo Advanced Mini Dock to drive a large display. When I recently updated to xf86-video-ati 6.9.0.91-1 (from testing), everytime I start X and the laptop is in the dock, all that happens is that the whole internal screen shows one full-screen color, cycling white->red->green->blue->grey->vertical black/white gradient->horizontal black/white gradient, and the external DVI display is ignored. The internal display is fine when I start X in the undocked state, until I put it into the dock and enable the DVI-out via xrandr (VGA-out seems to work fine, curiously).
6.9.0-6 (from extra) shows no problems. Pity this happens right now that one can expect more from the open-source drivers due to AMD's publication of the hardware spec...
Has anyone encountered a similar problem or knows where to file a bug most appropriately?
    Thanks in advance,
    S.

R00KIE wrote:Why don't you try the ATI binary drivers? Sure they aren't what we all would want them to be but at the current time they have support for more things than the open source drivers.
Do they support xrandr 1.2 now for using multiple displays easily? Last time I played around with them (in October) this was still a pain and ugly hacks were necessary to get multi-head to work. Otherwise I would have switched long before.

  • Connecting Lenovo T400 to Samsung BX2240, 1920*1080 resolution

    Hello!
I have a Lenovo T400, and am planning to get an external monitor to connect to the thinkpad. I am thinking of getting the 21.5" Samsung BX2240, with a 1920*1080 resolution. Would this monitor be compatible with the Lenovo T400, given that it only has a VGA port? I'm planning to get this from Ebay. So, I don't really know where else I could possibly ask this question, as I can't seem to find this monitor in the shops. Many thanks.
    Samsung BX2240:
    http://www.samsung.com/au/consumer/pc-peripherals/monitor/business-monitor/LS22CBUABV/XY/index.idx?p...

Thanks Lead_Org! That's what I was worried about, possibly fuzzy/blurry images. So, an advanced mini dock should solve the problem?
Will this one work with the T400?
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/IBM-ThinkPad-Advanced-Mini-Dock-Type-2504-as-new-/180618586343?pt=AU_Laptop_A... (I'm totally clueless about such things!)
JDay: The DVI adaptor will do the same job as the advanced mini dock?
    Thanks!

  • T400 Flickering Screen problem

I am having a problem where my computer screen keeps flickering, especially during start up and afterwards. It doesnt matter whether it is plugged in or not. It is similar to this video,
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9MOv_NsFqpQ&noredirect=1
I took it to my tech support and no one had any idea what to do about it. In addition, images on random websites (anything from huffington post to yelp) only half load. I uninstalled and reinstalled my browsers and updated my drivers.
This laptop has given me problems since I bought it. I once sent it into lenovo for repair and it had to be sent right back again. Another time i got a replacement battery and it arrived coated in sand and seemed worse than the original - (but was going abroad so I couldnt wait for another replacement.)
Since it is out of warranty, I am wondering if there is any way to fix this or whether I need to get a new laptop. Thanks!

    Welcome to the Forum!
I can help you with this. I have a T400 LCD front bezel and LCD top cover both in excellent shape, as well as Left and Right hinges available. Hinges are tight. Much safer to buy from a trusted Forum member who knows Thinkpads inside out than take a chance on Ebay where they may send you the wrong parts, broken parts, or never send your merchandise at all. (I'm speaking from experience, unfortunately).
I also have Brand New genuine Lenovo 9-cell and 6-cell T400 batteries, MINT (like-new) keyboards, AC adapters and Brand NEW entire WXGA+ T400 LCD assembly with webcam. Anyone in need of assistance may contact me by clicking my name on the left.

I don't know what your stock drive is, and what the pins might be.
Lacking that here's some idle speculation:
Those pins aren't power pins.  They may be for jumpers that can force the SATA mode.  Or something.  Their absence on your new drive should not be a problem.
It's general practice with StinkPads to clone with the source drive in the external enclosure, and the target in the laptop.  Otherwise problems ensue.  I don't have personal experience.
[edit] Well, sort of.  I do this by saving an Acronis backup image to an external HD (not a bad idea generally, IMNSHO) then restoring that to a new drive installed in the laptop.
Maybe reverse your setup and try again?
