Lenovo T410 & 4337 dock = display blackouts

I've got a Lenovo T410 computer. I just got a 4337 docking station, and I'm having a dispay problem that is making it almost unusable.
Every so often, for no discernable reason, the image on my external monitor blacks out. After a second or two it reappears. These blackouts often happen in clusters of three or four, a few seconds apart; then the display works normally for as long as half an hour.
This is at least partly a software problem, not a hardware problem. I know this because when the display reappears, the desktop and inactive windows reappear first, leaving a black hole where the active window should be. A half second or so later, the active window is restored. Sometimes the order is reversed: the active window reappears first, followed by the rest of the display. In either case, there is no way it could happen if the problem were purely hardware.
I've noticed a few other bits of weirdness associated with USB ports. When I connect a USB device while the computer is docked, that often causes the monitor to black out momentarily. The first time I used the dock I attached a smartphone to one of the USB ports before turning the computer on. As soon as I turned it on the smartphone buzzed and flashed its screen, then the monitor's image blacked out; when the monitor's image reappeared the phone buzzed again. This continued until I unplugged the phone.
The whole setup is: a T410 running Windows 7 Professional; 4337 docking station; monitor attached to the docking station by a DisplayPort-to-HDMI cable.

Hi Orthoducks,
Thank you for the reply!
Regarding the drivers, you can check with the below drivers link and in that you can select Power Management Category to download.

  • Lenovo T410 does not power on due to keyboard / power button issue.

I have a Lenovo T410 which has been exhibiting keyboard issues (several keys have failed and I've been using an external keyboard).
It seems that the keyboard failure is affecting the powering up of the machine. Occasionally it will turn on, most of the time it will not.
I've submitted an eService request for this and the status is "Solution Provided" but the "SO Status (as shown on ICSS)" is "On Hold" "Order on hold, pending update" (per: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/research/hints-or-tips/detail.page?DocID=HT074324 ). This has been the case since the 28th of last month.
I've confirmed it is a keyboard failure by swapping a keyboard from a T420 (which, ironically, had a service request fulfilled fine around the same time).
    I have two questions:
    i) most urgently, is there *any* way I can power the machine on without using the keyboard?
ii) what do I do about the service request's "On Hold" status? this machine is out of action and key to our work.

    i) There are three ways to power on the laptop without the power button.
    a) Use a dock.
    b) Check under BIOS menu (if possible) under power, to see whether you have something called 'Power On with AC Attach' feature. If you do enable it, and save then exit. What this do, is that it will power on the laptop when you connect the power plug into the laptop.
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/lead_org/8991415709/
    c) remove the CMOS battery, and power on the laptop by attaching the power adapter to the laptop.

  • Lenovo T410 - issue with i5 520M integrated graphics

    Hi,
I recently installed Arch on a Lenovo T410. Following the guides in various wikis (Archwiki, ThinkWiki) I was able to configure everything without too much troubles...
But I have the feeling that the the integrated graphics chipset is not perfectly handled. I get this feeling when I run glxgears:
    $ glxgears
    307 frames in 5.0 seconds = 61.224 FPS
    298 frames in 5.0 seconds = 59.490 FPS
    299 frames in 5.0 seconds = 59.688 FPS
    299 frames in 5.0 seconds = 59.688 FPS

    Thanks,

If your hardware is bleeding edge it's very likely to not yet be fully supported. In the case of Clarkdale/Arrandale i believe support is added in 2.6.33.
I suppose you could find that information by searching the forum for clarkdale, by browsing http://kernelnewbies.org/Linux26Changes or asking in irc / forums / usenet. But tbh i can't find much information about Clarkdale either.
For comparison though, i have ~800 fps on my Thinkpad X200s and 1100 fps on my i3-530 machine (Clarkdale) with kernel 2.6.32.10. Kernel 2.6.33.2-1 (testing repository) gives me ~800 - 900 fps.

  • 10.9.3 on iMac 27", dock displays near middle of screen, desktop picture isn't covering whole desktop. Anyone else having this annoying glitch?

    Hello Everyone.
I upgraded an iMac 27" (3.4 Ghz, Intel Core i7, 3TB fusion) from Mac OS X 10.8.6., to Mac OS X 10.9.3 a few days back.
Ever since then, the 2nd user to login on a given day, gets the dock displayed near the middle of the screen. It still interacts OK (e.g. you can launch applications from there), but it is not in it's correct location. The desktop picture (in this case, a shade of solid dark grey), only covers the smaller desktop area (up to where the Dock is). The remaining area of the screen automatically gets a 'light grey' background colour.
So person A logs in, no problem. But when person B comes along (with perosn A still logged in), the user logins, and they get this 'chopped of' version of the screen, with the dock mid-screen. (See screenshot attached).
The users can still click on any dock icons, and the applications will open up. But the dock won't return to it's original home, and refuses to 'jump' back to their proper home (at the bottom of the screen).
I've tried using CSCREEN to change the resolution at startup, via a terminal command and Automator, but that only works on some occasions. Others (like the attached screenshot) boot with the two-colour background, and 'confused' dock. A manual screen resolution change in the Settings area (down and then back up again), resolves the issue for that boot.
I've tried stripping back all non-essential plug-ins, tried removing a variety of start-up items, add-ons etc. I've tried creating a 'test' account, and the same issues appear to this account too.
Is it just me, or are others having problems with a misbehaving dock / screen resolution, in Mac OS X 10.9.3 / on an iMac 27"?
    Thank you!
    D.

    Hi folks.
I found a solution...Looks like the Dock is the culprit it's self. So, I made an automator app that I fire up automatically at login time. The automator app runs a shell script command:
       killall Dock
(make sure you have a capital D on Dock)
The Dock gets closed off, and it then re-opens in the correct spot (bottom of the screen -- not the middle of the screen). Hope this helps someone else!
    Enjoy.

  • Lenovo T410s recovery windows 7 failed to start after the system instalation.

I've got a problem with the laptop Lenovo T410s. I've put the new HDD on it (tried even the same with a different HDD too), and started to instal WIN 7 64-bit from the recovery disks. I used to do it many times so far with different Lenovo laptops without any problems. But this time, a while before the end of the instalation (when processing the sdrivebackup.wim) it stops and comes with a statement: " the recovery process has been finished, please ...." (but I see that the progres bar is far awayfrom 100%) , and finishes the instalation, reboot the computer and it comes the screen with the statement from the Windows Boot Manager:
"Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem (...)
    File: \Windows\system32\winload.exe
    Status: 0xc000000f
Info: The selected entrycould not be loaded because the application is missing or corrupt"
I read a lot about the ways to solve similar problems, but they don't work on my case. The strange thing is, that I can instal WIN 8 or WIN7 from regular Windows instalation disks  (not from Lenovo recovery, but from normal universal Windows instalation disks).
As I told before, I tried it in 2 different HDD disks with the same effect. It looks that the recovery instalation stops before the end without instaling some files which are missing later during starting the system.
Anybody can help me with that problem?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

It doesn't quite sound like it based on your reported error messages, but are you trying to do recovery to an advanced format HDD?  (one with 4k-byte sectors)
I ran into that issue on a T400.  The recovery media would run to completion then error out - with a somewhat different message IIRC.
There weren't appropriate drivers for an AF drive, and I couldn't find a solution.  There's no way (that I know of) to inject drivers into recovery media the way one can with install media.
If this is an AF drive issue the only way to get around it may be to install to a non-AF drive (usually a small-ish one) and then clone to your new drive.
I may be totally off in left field here - just tossing it out as a possibility.

  • Macbook Pro - Display Blackouts

Just curious if anyone is having this issue on their Macbook Pro 2010 model. I've got an early 2010 model (i7 2.66 with GT330M GPU). Apple AHT shows no problems. All updates installed (10.7.3), including Apple's fix for this problem. However yesterday it just went bonkers all together!

I have  Lenovo T410, and I've been using it regularly. I usually keep it hibernating when I'm not using it, and I just tried to power it on today and the backlight doesn't work. When I hold the screen up to the light, I can still my desktop.
It looks like a hardware issue, is there anything I can try to do to fix this?

yeah I know its called led sub card its just easier to call it an inverter some folks don't know about the sub card but know about the inverter & it does about the samething it changes the current to what the backlight/ led needs

  • Windows 7 Installation on my Formatted Drive in Lenovo T410

    HI
I have a Lenovo T410 laptop, in which I have formatted my hard drive completely including all default drives. Now I have a single partition, when I try to install the windows 7 with the recovery CDs which  I have created when my laptop was working correctly. But it will boot with that DVD but stops at the screen "Loading Windows". Is there any settings I need to change before installing windows 7 to the bios or something. I tried with the other Windows 7 DVD from Microsoft MSDN, even though i am not successfull.
Actually after deleted all the drives I have installed Windows XP and it was successful and when I try to install Windows 7 it is not going through. Please anyone suggest me any tips on how to install Windows 7 on my hard drive. Are there any other settings I need to chanage?
    Thanks.

Sorry, I figured you had already used that because you had already removed the partitions.
There are several versions available on the Ultimate Boot CD.
You will need to download it and use a utility like imgburn to burn the image to a CD.
The instructions on how to do that are here.
As to using the FDISK utility in the UBCD, there are simple menu's that follow the list of utilities on the page that I posted the link to above. Once you actually pick the FDISK utility, just follow the instructions. If you can't get it to work, let me know which FDISK utility you are using and I will put together some instructions for you.
If that cannot find the harddrive, then it sounds as if there is a harddrive issue.

  • Unable to connect the iPhone 4 to a Lenovo T410 laptop?

    Dear readers,
First of all, thanks for opening the topic
Well here we go: I got a new iPhone 4 which I would like to pair with my business lenovo T410 windows 7 laptop: I can't manage to do it.
    - The iPhone does not find the laptop, but the laptop finds the iPhone.
    - When trying to pair from the laptop, the phone does not react and the mecanism fall in a time out after a while.
    - Tried the same operation with a friend's iPhone: no problem. After few seconds the iPhone of my friend shows a request for entering the paraing code: it works.
    - We both have the same ios version (latest).
    - My iPhone paires well with other laptops and other bluetooth devices (till now, it's the first trouble I encounter).
    - The phone seems just not to see this laptop in particular.
I tried updating the phone without success. I don't understand where to act to solve this.
Does somebody know where to look at? or how to fix this issue?
    Many thanks uys
    With my best regards,

    Thanks for your response!
Well, first about the reason: as said, I've a business laptop and my purpose is to synchronise business contacts, mails (if possible, not mandatory) and most important synchronise the calendar and meetings. I can do it with a nokia phone without problem but it's not the goal to take 2 phones with me just for that...
About the faisability, it should be possible I think. As the purpose is not file transfer but synchronise with LotusNotes (business mail client) on the laptop.
Anyway, the problem is just, I think, a matter of connectivity in particular with my iPhone because with a colleague's iPhone it connects.
    Many thanks for your answer
Unfortunettly, I didn't manage to solve it till now.
    With kind regards,

  • Lenovo T410s ultrabay not powering hard drive properly?

Hello, I got a Lenovo T410s which I have been buying parts for here and there, and since I can't afford an msata SSD, I got an ultrabay hard drive adapter off ebay.
The problem is, for some reason it is not powering up the hard drive properly. I beleive it worked a couple tims using a 320gb seagate drive, I just purchased a 1TB hitachi drive, and it start to power up then power to it cuts off.
I set the CD performance to high and it did not fix anything, what is going on?
This is the one I bought. http://www.ebay.ca/itm/New-9-5mm-SATA-Optical-Bay-HDD-Hard-Disk-Adapter-Caddy-Lenovo-T410s-T420s-T43...

Ok, I tried something else, I have a 90w power supply, and a 66w power supply (for the x200 I have, though the x200 works fine on either). It always seemed to work on the 66w, and it was on and off on the 90 watt, so I swapped where I have them, it's currently on the 65 watt and it worked fine from the get go.
I have to see if anything changes, but it seems to be working, I don't get how the power supply is affecting it though, unless since it is older, maybe it is noisier and somehow that is messing it up? It doesn't make any sense to me, I wish I had an oscilliscope to look at the power coming out of each.
Like I said no guarantee, but it always worked with the 65w, so something is strange with the other one. IT did have a tendency to heat up a fair bit.

  • Compatible lenovo t410 hard disks

hello, My hard drive in my lenovo t410 has stopped working and i am looking to buy a new one. I read that the it supportes max capacity of 500GB and compatible with micro SATA 2. I did not understand what "micro SATA2" means, and i wonder if that information is up to date. so my question is can the t410 take any 2.5" Hard Drive - 1T/750GB/500GB 7200RPM/5400RPM with sata3/sata2? for example, can i buy any of the following hard drives for my lenovo t410? Western Digital Scorpio Blue WD10JPVX 1TB 5400RPMHGST Travelstar 7K1000 HTS721010A9E630 1TB 7200RPMWestern Digital Scorpio Black WD7500BPKX 750GB 7200RPMWestern Digital Scorpio Black WD5000BPKX 500GB 7200RPMWestern Digital Scorpio Blue WD5000LPVX 500GB 5400RPM thanks.

Hi, Micro SATA interface is usually present on 1.8" inch height hard drives. SATA2 has a maximum transfer rate of 3Gbit/s, so SATA3 HDD's with 6Gbit/s will work as 3Gbit/s in a SATA2 interface. The maximum capacity is based on your OS partition scheme. MBR supports 2 TB while GPT supports... a lot. GPT requires that your BIOS boot system is set to UEFI (instead of legacy).

  • I do not know how to transfer my Photoshop elements from old Dell Vostro 1720 to new Lenovo T410.  please help

I am askink for help in moving my photoshop elements 10 from Dell Vostro 1720 laptop to my newer Lenovo T410 lap

You do not move Adobe applications, you install them, so get the installation files and install them like you originally did.
    PSE 10, 11 - http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop-elements/kb/photoshop-elements-10-11-downloads.html
You will also need your serial number to activate the new installation.  If you did not keep a record of it you might be able to find it in your Adobe account online if you registered the program.
You are allowed to have two installations activated so if you wish to you can keep the software working on the old machine.  If you wish to remove it or disable it, you need to deactivate it (Help -> Deactivate).

    Hello.
The Windows BIOS upgrade isn't OS specific, it runs on all OS's between XP-Win8.1, even if it doesn't list 8.1 specifically.
You can either update it manually, using the update here:
BIOS Update Utility for ThinkPad T410, T410i
Or make a bootable CD/USB with the ISO file here:
BIOS Update Bootable CD for ThinkPad T410, T410i
Either way works like a charm on a Windows 8.1 machine, but be aware of the risks involved in updating your BIOS.
    Good luck!

the part no. for the 1280 x 800 LCD that your laptop uses are 42T0725, 42T0729, 42T0733.
I am not sure where you are going to get it in India. But you can try ebay and things like that.
