Lenovo T410s, T420s, T430s, Ultrabay battery falls off

Hi,
At the company i am working at we have bought a whole bunch of T410s, T420s and some brand new T430s with a extra battery (ultrabay) instead of a DVD player, but for some reason the extra battery falls off at random when you lift the laptop. This problem is not on every laptop but i'ts on 3/10 of them.
It seems like the lock for the dvd/battery is broken, but I've open it up and made sure nothing was broken. Nada, but on one of the computers (a t430s) the battery connector was broken and some small parts of the battery was still stuck on it, like someone has bruteforced the battery to connect to the computer to not fall off.
Might this hardware problem be a cause of wrong batterys for the model? Or is this factory-related?
Ideas on how to fix this or is it just to send them to lenovo for repair?

I've found a way to start battery charge process - turn off (disable) BIOS -> I/O -> "Ultrabay CD/HDD". But the problem is that charge current is too small - it starts at 0.10A, then (very quick) drops to 0.01A value and stops when 2%  of capacity. What is this? I need to work (I'm a microelectronics engineer), not to repair notebook.
PS I'm monitoring current at Power Manager software.

  • Lenovo T410s ultrabay not powering hard drive properly?

Hello, I got a Lenovo T410s which I have been buying parts for here and there, and since I can't afford an msata SSD, I got an ultrabay hard drive adapter off ebay.
The problem is, for some reason it is not powering up the hard drive properly. I beleive it worked a couple tims using a 320gb seagate drive, I just purchased a 1TB hitachi drive, and it start to power up then power to it cuts off.
I set the CD performance to high and it did not fix anything, what is going on?
This is the one I bought. http://www.ebay.ca/itm/New-9-5mm-SATA-Optical-Bay-HDD-Hard-Disk-Adapter-Caddy-Lenovo-T410s-T420s-T43...

Ok, I tried something else, I have a 90w power supply, and a 66w power supply (for the x200 I have, though the x200 works fine on either). It always seemed to work on the 66w, and it was on and off on the 90 watt, so I swapped where I have them, it's currently on the 65 watt and it worked fine from the get go.
I have to see if anything changes, but it seems to be working, I don't get how the power supply is affecting it though, unless since it is older, maybe it is noisier and somehow that is messing it up? It doesn't make any sense to me, I wish I had an oscilliscope to look at the power coming out of each.
Like I said no guarantee, but it always worked with the 65w, so something is strange with the other one. IT did have a tendency to heat up a fair bit.

  • Ultrabay battery for my T410

    Hi
Recently I've been starting to look around for new battery for my laptop mounted in ultrabay. When I got to know that there is no such accessories for T410 I was.... pretty surprised. Could anyone confirm this information? What do I do then? I don't want to buy new 9-cell battery. Is ultrabay battery for T410s or T400 fit to T410? Thanks for replies
    T420s type 4171-7FU

there is also the extra 9 cell battery slice that you can put in addition to the 6 cells battery, this is substantially more battery power than the ultrabay battery.

    Hi,
Does any one know if lenovo has a ultrabay HDD adapter that can be used in both T410s and T430s.
I have been browsing about this but the PN are not the same and either PN does not point to both system.

  • T430s compatible with ultrabay battery FRU 42T4679 (ASM 43R8890)

    Hi~
I just purchased a T430s. I want a ultrabay battery to extend the outdoor working time and I have a 42T4679 battery at home. So I want to try that one on my new laptop.
I asked a lenovo agent through online chat to check the compatibility of the battery and my laptop. He told me that the battery would work. But when I put this battery in, the system does not recognize it. I go to the Lenovo Solution Centre, it only told me that a communication error occurred.......
So is it there any way to solve this problem?
    Thanks~

Hi comiwolf, and welcome to the Lenovo User Community!
    No. That's a Battery 42. The T430s takes a Battery 43.
    Hope this helps explain!

  • Battery T430 Ultrabay

Is there a battery available for the ultrabay slot for a T430. I know there is for a T430S. Will the T430S fit in the T430?

    B..b..but why?
And why is it supported by T430s and not T430? Is it that great of a difference between the two models?
Edit: found a nice site that compares the two models. Main difference: slimness. And the site also claims that the 3 cell ultrabay battery is supported by the T430.

  • Ultrabay battery charge rate tapers off

I picked up a "new" lenovo ultrabay battery for my T61. The battery information shows the last charge was a bit above the design charge so the report says it's in excellent condition. However, it was at 0% charge when I first put it in and as time goes on the charge rate is dropping and the time to complete charge is increasing, not decreasing. It's up to 82% now but it says it has almost 4 hours left to charge. Originally it said it would only take 1.5 hours to completely charge.
This seems to me like it was over discharged. I read a lenovo recommendation to allow an over discharged battery to charge for 24hours and fully cycle it up to twice more to see if it can be recovered. Is this safe? The temperature sensors are staying right around 29C.
Is it possible to reflash the battery last charge number to make it appear to be in good condition? I could see some sneaky reseller picking up batteries in fair condition and making them appear to be in good condition.
    Thanks!

don't think that would be possible.

  • How much time the Lenovo T410 battery lasts?

    I have a new Lenovo T410 with a 4 cel Li-Ion battery.
The battery takes 2 hours charging (it charges while I'm working in high performance) and it discharges in 1 hour (working in high performance).
Is rigth that battery life for a just purchased laptop? I guess it is not.
Does the standard 1 year warranty cover the battery?
    Thanks!

The battery isn't covered under the warranty unless it is physically defective.   In high performance mode I can drain a 9cell in less then 2hours so getting an hour from a 4 cell is pretty good.   You may want to try adaptive performance and let the system throttle down when it can, this should squeek out another 40mins or so even with the same usage and usally about the same performance feel..  There are very few things short of playing a video game which would require forcing the system into high performance.

  • Ultrabay Battery -- Change discharge behavior?

I have a T400 with the optional ultrabay battery. The behavior seems to be that the extra battery is discharged entirely before moving on to the main battery. My understanding is that completely discharging a Li-Ion battery shortens the battery's lifespan. It seems to make more sense to either (1) drain the main battery first since it's larger and less likely to completely discharge before you find a power outlet or (2) alternate between the two batteries.
Is there anyway to adjust the battery settings to achieve either of these?

    Hi all,
I think, you missunderstand these 0% of battery charge. This does not mean, that the battery is discharged to 0 Volts. In that case, the battery would be destroyed immediately. These 0% are with respect to a minimum threshold voltage, such that the battery will not be damaged or its lifetime drastically reduced. When I have a look at my "fully" discharged ultrabay battery, I see that it has still more then 11V, which is no problem. The battery has 3 cells, each with 3.6 Volts. And a Li-Po Cell (Li-Ion is similar) can be discharged to about 2.8V without being damaged. 3 x 2.8V = 8.4V V for the whole battery. 11V is far avay from that, so there is enough reserve. If the voltage falls under a certain voltage, the computer turns off but not just because there is not enough power. Instead this is a safety mechanism for the battery which is implemented in hardware. So I think it's not necessary to wory about the battery.
Even though I think, that the user should be able to decide which battery discharges first. Especially if lenovo writes:
"Since the battery works in the Ultrabay you don't have to suspend the system to swap out the system battery to use the ThinkPad for an extended period of time."
That's what I wanted to do, change the main battery, while the system is on. But with this default behaviour of battery management, it's impossible because the U-battery is discharged first. Escept you carry the U-battery seperately with you the whole day and insert it shortly before the main battery is empty. But that's not very comfortable.
I foud one way to achieve that the main battery is discharged first. I have a T400 and if you apply the small switch on the right if as you wanted to remove the battery and the pad to pull jumps out, then the main battery is discharging while the ultrabay battery is still connected (appears in the Power manager) and supplies the PC with power if the main battery gets empty. But also that is not very elegant.
I hope I helped a little. If someone has a real solution to this problem, please tell us. I know that there is a solution, even if not supported by lenovo, what is a shame. (Something with ACPI events I guess but I don't have experience with that)

  • Part # for T400 ultrabay battery, and where to buy?

The Lenovo Web site does not seem to sell an UltraBay battery that's compatible with the T400. Or maybe it's compatible with one of them, and the T400 isn't listed for some reason.
What is the part number for the UltraBay battery that works with the T400? If it's not sold by Lenovo, why not, and where can I get one?
And is it true that the UltraBay batteries drain completely before the main battery is used so they only last a few months? If so, will this problem be fixed?

To get the part number for the UltraBay battery, check the T400 accessories page in tabook
Yes, the UltraBay battery drains first.  It's working as designed and not broken, so there's nothing to fix.

  • Lenovo T410 does not power on due to keyboard / power button issue.

I have a Lenovo T410 which has been exhibiting keyboard issues (several keys have failed and I've been using an external keyboard).
It seems that the keyboard failure is affecting the powering up of the machine. Occasionally it will turn on, most of the time it will not.
I've submitted an eService request for this and the status is "Solution Provided" but the "SO Status (as shown on ICSS)" is "On Hold" "Order on hold, pending update" (per: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/research/hints-or-tips/detail.page?DocID=HT074324 ). This has been the case since the 28th of last month.
I've confirmed it is a keyboard failure by swapping a keyboard from a T420 (which, ironically, had a service request fulfilled fine around the same time).
    I have two questions:
    i) most urgently, is there *any* way I can power the machine on without using the keyboard?
ii) what do I do about the service request's "On Hold" status? this machine is out of action and key to our work.

    i) There are three ways to power on the laptop without the power button.
    a) Use a dock.
    b) Check under BIOS menu (if possible) under power, to see whether you have something called 'Power On with AC Attach' feature. If you do enable it, and save then exit. What this do, is that it will power on the laptop when you connect the power plug into the laptop.
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/lead_org/8991415709/
    c) remove the CMOS battery, and power on the laptop by attaching the power adapter to the laptop.

  • S10e Legs falling off all the time

    Dear Lenovo, Users,
I bought my S10e shortly (6 months or so). I use a professional computer designed to carry a laptop and the S10e rubber legs keep falling off. The Service support do not help - they either write it down and do nothing or refer me to the laboratory which ask for money. I did point out that this is a design flaw and this is not my fault and that Lenovo - in my opinion - should send me 4 new rubber stickers/legs.
Could a Lenovo representative please reply to my mail?
    Thank you in advance,

  • Lenovo T410s recovery windows 7 failed to start after the system instalation.

I've got a problem with the laptop Lenovo T410s. I've put the new HDD on it (tried even the same with a different HDD too), and started to instal WIN 7 64-bit from the recovery disks. I used to do it many times so far with different Lenovo laptops without any problems. But this time, a while before the end of the instalation (when processing the sdrivebackup.wim) it stops and comes with a statement: " the recovery process has been finished, please ...." (but I see that the progres bar is far awayfrom 100%) , and finishes the instalation, reboot the computer and it comes the screen with the statement from the Windows Boot Manager:
"Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem (...)
    File: \Windows\system32\winload.exe
    Status: 0xc000000f
Info: The selected entrycould not be loaded because the application is missing or corrupt"
I read a lot about the ways to solve similar problems, but they don't work on my case. The strange thing is, that I can instal WIN 8 or WIN7 from regular Windows instalation disks  (not from Lenovo recovery, but from normal universal Windows instalation disks).
As I told before, I tried it in 2 different HDD disks with the same effect. It looks that the recovery instalation stops before the end without instaling some files which are missing later during starting the system.
Anybody can help me with that problem?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

It doesn't quite sound like it based on your reported error messages, but are you trying to do recovery to an advanced format HDD?  (one with 4k-byte sectors)
I ran into that issue on a T400.  The recovery media would run to completion then error out - with a somewhat different message IIRC.
There weren't appropriate drivers for an AF drive, and I couldn't find a solution.  There's no way (that I know of) to inject drivers into recovery media the way one can with install media.
If this is an AF drive issue the only way to get around it may be to install to a non-AF drive (usually a small-ish one) and then clone to your new drive.
I may be totally off in left field here - just tossing it out as a possibility.

  • Ultrabay battery won't switch to main battery and results in sudden shutdown.

    Hi,
I just changed my windows 7 32 bit to 64 but version. The power manager version is 3.66 and driver version 1.64, bios version is    LENOVO 7UET93WW (3.23 , 12/15/2011). The ultrabay battery drains to zero and won't switch to main battery, which leads to a sudden shutdown without any warning. In windows 7 32 bit version, I don't have such problem. It's annoying. My computer is T400 7147 CTO.
    Thanks!
    chicagot400

Hi I have the exact same problem. I have a T400 2764 CTO. Changes I have recently made (past 2 weeks): I upgraded to Windows 7 64, added a PC Card media reader, added an express card USB 3.0, a Samsung 256 GB SSD and the Ultra Bay Battery. Everything was working great... both batteries recognized, ran Lenovo Update... Have everything...
Well the battery meter recognizes both batteries (a 4-cell and a 3-cell), combines their life, but it drains the 3-cell first to ZERO... and isn't bright enough to figure out how to switch before abruptly dropping power to the system.
Hopefully like the ATI switchable graphics that had bugs for ages this battery issue eventually gets fixed. Let me know if you figure out any solution. AND LENOVO, if you are reading, try and set it up so that the 2 battery usage maximizes the life of both batteries with whatever controller you put together.
    Thanks.

  • Glass separating from display "Falling Off"

My macbook pro warranty ended in December. since I bought it i've had major problems with the display. This is my 4th screen. it's literarlly falling off - as in I can see the camera from the inside that was like last month - now the everything left of the camera comes lose... can look down and see whats between the "glass". it's like the screen is held together with adhesive which isn't strong enough any longer...  everything from the right side of the camera is still sticking but I just want to keep it together until the new macbook pros come out or september for back to school specials....
I have the unibody verison from 2009 the one with the removable battery. I just feel like something I spent over 2k for should hold together a little better than this?
    Suggestions?
