Lenovo T430 RHEL 6.5 x86-64 caps lock indicator issue

Hi,
I am using Lenovo T430 with OS as Red Hat Enterprise 6.5 x86-64. One big problem I am facing is this laptop model is not having LED for Caps lock. but we can not do anything w.r.t LED button if its not there... but what I am looking for is - some plugins or software in linux which can provide me visual indicator for Caps lock on/off....  can anybody help me on this.
FYI... my volume and screen light indicator are working very much fine with visual indicator... only issue with caps lock indicator...
Regards,
Yashjimmy

  • Y2P dim screen, caps lock indicator stuck on. Already disabled adaptive brighness... Warranty?

Hi guys. Recently bought my second Y2P, this one second hand.
Reason being my previous one was the 4GB i5 model, this one is the 8GB i7
Now I've noticed a few things when I compare them. Firstly, and most annoyingly, the screen on this one is significantly dimmer than on my previous one. When I put it it max brightness it's only a little brighter than half way on my older one. When I put the brightness all the way down the screen turns off...
I''ve already disabled auto dim in the battery settings, windows setting AND intel graphics control panel so I'm sure it's not down to that. I'm running the updated BIOS on both the systems also. This is unbelievably frustrating.
Another annoying thing is that the CAPS lock indicator light is always on. Apart from when I press a button, it turns off whilst anything is being pressed (on the keyboard). It does this as soon as the machine is switched on.
BIOS setting have been reverted to standard etc and nothing seems to be fixing any of it. I have also done a full reset of the machine on numerous occasions. Nothing.
One last niggle is that I've noticed that the touchpad is ever so slightly sunk in (something that I probably only noticed because I have another yoga to compare it to) and there is some play in the touchpad which I would have noticed this regardless.
Is it time to contact Lenovo warranty team?
Sorry for the long post, and I'd really appreciate any advice!

Just to keep the thread updated in case by any chance someone has similar problems...
I've contacted Lenovo who are saying it's likely a motherboard issue, I'll be getting a letter with details of how to arrange a courier to collect the system within the next few days. I'll let y'all know what comes of it!

  • T530 - Caps Lock Indicator Not Working

Sporting Windows XP (32-bit) on my T530 and as of recently, Caps Lock indicator has stopped working. Mute, Volume, Screen Brightness indicators are working as per usual, only CL indicator is not working anymore. Tried upgrading Lenovo Hotkey Features, rebooted but still no go. Also, I can't remember where do I find settings for Caps Lock indicator? IIRC, it should be somewhere in Control Panel/Display/Settings/Advanced/OSD, but it disappeared. I can only enable/disable OSD, adjust fade-out time and background/foreground color(s). Options for Caps Lock indicator are missing. Anyone experiencing similar problems?
    T530: i7-3630QM, 4 GB DDR3-1600, NVS 5400M, 2x 500GB 7200RPM, 9-cell, HD+ 1600x900, Backlit US, WinXP Pro
    L430: i3-2370M, 4 GB DDR3-1600, HD 3000, 320GB 7200RPM, 6-cell, HD 1366 x 768, Win7 Home Premium 64-bit

I had the same problem. The newest hotkeys integration package is gevu60ew.exe and it has problems on XP. Here is how I fixed it:
Download gevu60ew.exe from the Lenovo website.
    Install gevu60ew.exe, don't reboot.
Run the installation again from C:\Drivers\Hotkey\setup.exe.
Choose the uninstall option and uninstall everything you see.
    Reboot.
Go to your program files directory and delete the folder "%ProgramFiles%/Lenovo/HOTKEY".
Download and install gevu43ww.exe, don't install the patch.
I found the file gevu43ww.exe here (but if you've used System Update it's probably already saved on your computer, do a search for it):
    www.filefobia.com/goto/download/29321/10
    Reboot.
Should be fixed, no promises but it worked for me.

  • X240: No CAPS LOCK indicator; most Fn hotkeys don't work

When I push CAPS LOCK, I don't see the CAPS LOCK indicator on the screen.
Also, of the Fn hotkeys, only the mute, volume up/dn, and brightness up/dn work - the others don't.
    Refreshed hotkeys driver.
When I go to "On Screen Display" tab in screen Advaned Settings, I see: Enable on-screen display checkbox; Appearance box, with color selections and fadeout time.  I don't see below it checkboxes for Caps Lock and Num Lock.

  • X100e Caps Lock OSD issue

    Hi, its me again.
Few days ago i bought Lenovo x100e Netbook
    Product ID: 35086AG
Athlon MV40(1.6GHz), 1GB RAM, 160GB 5400rpm HD, 11.6in 1366x768 LCD, ATI Radeon HD2200, 802.11bgn wireless, WWAN upgradeable, Bluetooth, 1Gb Ethernet, UltraNav, 3c Li-Ion, WinXP Professional  (iNSTALLED AFTER SHOPPING)
Win XP PRO SP3  Updated to date, All latest drivers.
After pressing Caps lock, the OSD indicator for caps lock just stay turned on till next time i start windows.
Another question. As you can see up there, my x100e comes with 1GB RAM memory. Adn when i click to start ->settings->control panel->system, under computer section it says "768 MB of RAM".
Is it possible that guys in shop just replaced 1 GB factory RAM with this 768?
Cause as far as i know...1GB of RAM is equivalent to 1024 MB of RAM.

I've had my X100e for several months and about 2 weeks ago I also have the 'permanent' Caps Lock indicator displayed after the first time I hit the key and it doesn't display the correct status and won't go away.
I discovered a hack to fix it but it's just a nuisance (and has to be done for each user if you have more than one user defined).  I am running Windows 7.
Open the Task Manager and delete the TPNUMLKD.exe process. If CAPS LOCK is displayed it will go away.  Then open Windows Explorer and go to the "Program Files"/Lenovo/HOTKEY directory and click on pNumLkD.exe and now the indicator for the current user will work as intended.  It displays the correct Caps Lock state and when Caps Lock is off the indicator disappears after a couple of seconds.
I hope this works for you, but would like to see a 'real fix'!

  • How to get Caps lock indicator in windows 8.1

How to get Caps lock indicator in windows 8.1   ???
i am using wireless keyboard KG 1061

    Hi bhargav0,
I understand you would like a caps lock indicator in Windows 8.1. I admit, I don't know of any fix that simply shows you on the screen, but there is an auditory warning that you can implement if that would be of help to you. Take a look at the following video, Windows® 8.1: Make the Caps Lock key beep when pressed. I hope this will be of use to you. Have a great day.

  • ****PLEASE HELP ME SOMEONE**** PLEASE - Re: ON SCREEN CAPS LOCK INDICATOR

can someone please help me before i pull all of my hair out.
i have windows vista - 64 bit - the HP IQ500 touchsmart with a wireless keyboard.
in the systray the num caps and scroll lock appears as little blue boxes (when on).
everynow and again they simply disapper.
i researced how to activate them again but cant remember how to do it.
there is a way without having to mess with the registry and without downloading any program
i just cant remember how. i know wherever it is...you ultimately get 3 boxes that you can check in order to turn the options back on.
i am not talking about toggling, or sound, or mscofig and then boot.
does anyone know the steps to turn the caps scroll and num lock indicator in teh sys tray back on
oh, and right clicking on the toolbar and going to the notificiation area is not what i am referring to either.
I checked in the control panel programs and the hp on screen caps lock indicator etc program is there.
I reinstalled it nonetheless and confirmed it is installed properly
When I right click on the notification area I do to properties/notification area/customize
    There are two lists there
    1. Current Items and
    2. Past Items
For some reason I see caps lock - scroll lock and num lock under the past items
There you are also able to change the status of the items to either Hide wne active, hide or show
    All three (caps/num/scroll) are SHOW
I click apply OK then apply
I restart the computer and nothing. The on screen caps lock indicator is still not in the notification area/systray area
I repeat teh steps to ensure that the three have the SHOW option chosen and they are.
    So....
    Program is installed
    Items are check for SHOW
    Restart was done
Ohhh and also...I went to MSCONFIG and made sure that the HP Keyboard Program was selected/check mark as one of the start up programs.
There in a run command to activiate the 3rd party program (hp onscreen indicator program)
When you enter the run command that I cant remember...you then get this option where there are three check boxes...one next to num lock - one next to caps lock and one for scroll lock.
Once you check/select the boxes/options you want...presto they appear in the sys tray/notification area.
I just cant remember the run command it to save my life.
Please....put my mind to ease...cause I am losing it!
I just cant seem to "walk away"...must be my OCD :-(
    Thanks

  • Caps lock indicator

My Pavilion P6320 came with the standard HP wireless keyboard and mouse.  No problems using these, but there is no direct indication on the keyboard as to whether the Caps lock and Num lock are on or off.  When either is changed an indicator appears briefly in the bottom right of the screen.
Is there any way this indicator can be permanently displayed, for example in the task bar?

Any way to have the caps lock indicator display on the monitor?  Can never figure out whe it's active.

  • Caps Lock indicator in lower right of screen

When I hit Caps Lock, a display pops up in the lower right corner of the screen to notify me of the change.  It looks like this:
    http://i55.tinypic.com/15xez9.png
How do I stop this from happening?  I've found a bunch of workarounds via Google, and they all either don't work for me or don't apply.

Looks like you have a wireless (bluetooth) keyboard.
Easy way (if you don't use Bluetooth)
    Click Start.
    Type MSCONFIG.
Allow User Account Control? - click Yes.
    Click Startup tab.
Remove check marks from "Bluetooth Software" and/or "HP Desktop Keyboard".
    Restart computer.
If you want to only shut down the little graphical presentation and you want to keep the bluetooth icon, use the steps above to prevent "HP Desktop Keyboard" from loading, but do not remove the checkmark next to bluetooth.
And then prevent the OSD for the bluetooth caps lock indicator by making a minor change in the registry:
    Click Start.
    Type REGEDIT.
Allow User Account Control? - click Yes.
To backup your registry (in case soething goes haywire), select Computer, click File menu, click Export, give a name and save.
After backing up registry, open each of the following registry values (the little folders) in this path:  HKEY_LOCAL_MCHINE_\SOFTWARE\Widcomm\BTConfig\General\
Double-click the value KeyIndication in the list on the right.
Change the hex value from a one (1) TO A ZERO (0).
Close the registry editor window and restart your computer. You don't need to save anything - it happens on the fly (scary).

  • Caps lock indicator is on but it is in lower case

    Hi,
I have Notebook model 14-b157TU. since 2 days, My laptop's caps lock indicator is working in reverse way - indicator is on when it is lower case and off when it is upper case. I have tried restarting the system and removing the battery for sometime and then turning on the laptop. But the problem still persists.
    Help me to resolve this.

  • CAPS lock indicator bulb

My "CAPS lock" indicator light went out a couple of months ago and is driving me crazy.  It's a real problem when attempting to put in a password, especially with my bank.  After two tries the other day it locked me out (again) before I realized what I was doing wrong.   I have an HP Pavilion dv6833us Entertainment Notebook PC.  I just want to replace the little bulb in there.  Can I do it myself or do I have to bring it in for servicing somewhere?  Your advice would be appreciated.

I have read threads about the number lock flickering
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2588658&#2588658
perhaps it is just a small glitch. My number lock does the same when it is on screen save mode but goes away as soon as i power the screen. Not really bothers me.

  • Does the T430 have a caps lock indicator?

I got the X230t and I'm returning it due to numerous build quality issues (a mod has buried my post on the topic), and I'm considering getting a T430 instead.
One of the things I don't like on the X230t is that there's no way to tell when caps lock is on or off. They removed the LED from the screen, but didn't put one in on the new Chiclet keyboard. Is this the same situation with the T430?

    tripplec wrote:
Right I missed that one. Ok NumLock has a light but all computers should maintain the LED's they've gotten so small they escially micro chips on the board lighting up. so why not have them on all the systems.
I think they're copying Apple. Everything they do seems to make their computers simpler and more Mac-like. Lenovo seems to subscribe to this minimalist design ethos now, but they don't understand what they're doing.
For example, the X230t now has a magnetic lid, but they designed it so poorly that you can't open the laptop with one hand anymore! You need to hold the base with one hand and open the lid with the other. If you don't, the entire laptop rotates into the air, and you have to jiggle it to get the screen open.
Same with the keyboard. They've stripped out so many useful keys for PC users, and they've done moronic things like replace the Menu key with the Print Screen key! (The key between the right Alt and Ctrl. As if you're going to push Print Screen all the time.) Why? They don't know what they're doing. But it looks more Mac-like, and it's cheaper to make, so they keep it.
They've been steadily removing LEDs for years, too. The X60t had more than my X201t, which has way more than the X230t. The X230t doesn't even tell you when you're plugged in and charging. No num lock or caps lock LEDs either.
You can read my full list of pros and cons on the X230t here: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/X-Series-Tablet-ThinkPad-Laptops/X230t-first-impressions-Fail-Build-qual...
Unfortunately, a mod censored my post by merging it into an unrelated thread in an attempt to bury it. He even admitted to doing it because he doesn't like my opinions and user name. I messaged the other mods and an admin, but it seems no one cares.

  • Caps lock indicator remains on screen at all times

One of my clients has a T410 with Windows 7 64-bit installed.  When he turns on his caps lock, the indicator lights up and the same indicator appears on the screen and then stays present until the caps lock is turned off.  When caps lock is turned off the indicator disappears in about 3 seconds.  My other T410s are not experiencing this issue.  What can we do to change the indicator so that it only appears on-screen for 3 seconds?  I appreciate your help.

  • Disable Caps Lock Indicator Yoga 14

I just purchased a yoga 14 with windows 8.1. I want to disable the caps lock notification and almost all of the old solutions for windows 7 do not apply because there is no "On-Screen Display" tab. Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Thank you for confirming.
    This one, yes: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/yoga-series/yoga-3-1470
My apologies. I mistakenly thought that only the ThinkPad line sported a 14" Yoga.

I’m really sorry to hear that on screen display is not working properly in your Lenovo X1 Carbon Touch after installing Windows 8.1 64-bit.
I would suggest you to install the latest version of Hotkey Features Integration for your machine.
Also, download the Power manager driver for your system from the below link and install it.
