Lenovo T430s, T530, W530 update retriever problems

Hey
We have just got these models to our Company, and we are having trouble with update retriever.
When we add these models to update retriever and search for updates, we only get "Winodows Patch updates" and som "Lenovo special updates". No updates for chipset, graphic, media card reader, bluetooth, WAN, sound.
But, when we use System Update, everything is coming up.
Have tried to delete det system in update retriever and add it again, but no success.
Please help

Can you tell the team that the ThinkPad Tablet Button Driver 1.05 and ThinkPad Enhanced Multitouch Driver 7.0.2.29 is not present in retriever? I see Tablet button driver 1.04 but only for X64 and not x86
Thanks Ed!

  • Lenovo T430 suspend issue (systemd-sleep)

On my Lenovo T430, I'm having a problem with suspend. I use the Gnome3 Suspend option from the menubar. Suspend works successfully only about 50% of the time. When it doesn't work, the screen goes blank and the power button starts a fast blink. The only option then is a hard reboot (long press the power button).
I haven't been able to identify a consistent way to reproduce the problem. Doesn't seem to be related to battery or charging state. Also, doesn't seem to be related to the current running apps.
Here are the last entries from journalctl just before the hard reboot...
    Sep 11 09:33:19 mylaptop systemd[1]: Starting Sleep.
Sep 11 09:33:19 mylaptop systemd[1]: Reached target Sleep.

    Hi linhe43,
What operating system are you using?
Which WLAN card do you have?
    Are your drivers updated?
Are you using the driver from the Lenovo site or intel site?
Unfortunately, as erceve said, there is no definite fix.
You have to play around with the options to see what combination works.
Here are a few forum threads I've been working on that detail different methods of how to fix the issue.

  • Lenovo Drivers Insufficient for update to 8.1 - Driver problem - H430

Lenovo Drivers Insufficient  for update to 8.1 - Driver problem  (USB?) - H430
my lenovo H430 is about 6 months old - worked okay with preinstalled Windows 8
After update to Windows 8.1 computer no longer seemed to work well at all, although I am unable to provide hard evidence, but clearly it was not working as smoothly as in the previous 8 version with lots of irritating little problems - including sound.
One thing that very clearly was not functioning as it had in 8 version was the USB disconnect icon. In 8 you only had to click on icon and the USB selection window would open immediately. Additionally all USB connections would be shown - back and front USB.  Select the USB to be disconnected and it would be disconnected immediately (providing not in use). After update to 8.1 this was no longer the case.
In 8.1 disconnect icon no longer worked as it had done in 8. After clicking on icon there was now always a lengthy pause, followed by the sound of the computer working (whirring sound) and then after a while the USB selection window would finally open. Sometimes it was necessary to click on icon a few times to get any reaction at all. A small MP3 player I had charged up on my computer every morning (front USB) in windows 8, was always in USB list, and disconnected without problem in 8. In 8.1 it was no longer in list and only charged sporadically  (would stop charging, but if I clicked on USB  icon it would start charging again - although still not shown in USB list).
After about two weeks of 8.1 my screen suddenly - but only briefly - went black twice. I ran a sfc /scannow. problems were found but could not be resolved. I did a  Dism /Online/Clean-Image/RestoreHealth  this was reported as being successful.  About two days later my computer went into blue screen BSOD - "critical-services-failure" - from which I was unable to get out of. The only option open was the Lenovo restore option. Computer was returned to factory state with los of all data.
back to Windows 8 the computer once again worked okay - no problems - and USB icon once again worked correctly (including with MP3 player).
About 2 weeks later after receiving MS messages to update to 8.1 I called Lenovo support and asked about update to drivers for 8.1.
    the following list was given:
Chipset: Intel chipset Driver for Windows 8.1 (64-bit) Version : 9.4.0.1022
Video: CPP2 AMD DISCRETE VGA CARD DRIVER for Windows 8.1 (64-bit) Version: 13.152
Audio: Realtek Audio Driver for Windows 8.1 (64-bit) Version: 6.0.1.7030
LAN: Realtek Lan Driver for Windows 8.1 (64-bit) Version: 8.018.0621.2013
STORAGE: Intel RST Driver for Windows 8.1 (64-bit) - Desktop Version: 12.8.0.1016
I updated to 8.1 and then updated all the above drivers (no USB driver update was available).
The same problems as the last update to 8.1 and USB was as bad as it was in last 8.1
Some days later my computer went into blue screen BSOD once again - although this time did not stay stuck there, and quickly restarted - due to speed of restart I did not get time to read all the text and discover the cause of BSOD.
Computer is still running badly - particularly the USB icon disconnect.
Called Lenovo support but they have been no help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lenovo are failing us with the 8.1 update and the  DRIVERS FOR 8.1
    BSOD
all i could find was this: (probably refers to after BSOD - the restarting part after BSOD???)

I have now seen the suggestion by Tomaspoko and Brillow at http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-Edge-S-series/Windows-8-1-update-S440-ThinkPad-black-screen-wit...
Despite the AMD driver giving an error during install at the last stage of the suggested fix, this has now yielded a working switchable graphics for my S540 for the first time with Windows 8.1.  Catalyst Control Center also works for the first time, so thank you to both the above-mentioned posters for a solution that does work.
Hopefully in time AMD will release a non-broken updated AMD driver and CCC package.
Thanks again for a nice solution from this forum - the problem was driving me nuts!

Hi orth04, It sounds like ThinkVantage System Update is not working for you.
One alternative is to manually download and install the drivers.
The other alternative is to make System Update do what you want. Can you give us some more details about what happens?
    I don't work for Lenovo. I'm a crazy volunteer!

  • Slow Imaging on Lenovo T430 with MDT 2012 Update 1

I am having an issue where laying down the operating system (Custom WIM, Windows 7 x64 about 3GB in size) to a Lenovo T430 machines using MDT 2012 Update 1 is slow.  The install operating system/applying image, seems to hang around 20%, this process takes anywhere from 10-20 minutes to complete before DISM applies the unattend file.  While the process is “hung” the hard drive light on the laptop is solid, so I assume something is going on but I still do not understand why the process seems to hang.  When I image an older Lenovo T410 laptop the WIM is layed down in about in about 5 minutes.  So it seems strange to me that a new laptop model would be slower.  I added new network card drivers and storage device drivers to out of box drivers and updated my deployment share.  I am currently using a lite touch deployment, so I extracted the ISO to a bootable USB stick.
I thought this was a driver issue but I am not sure now. Anyone else see anything like this? Below is a screenshot of the process I am talking about, although like I said above, it seems to hang around 20% or so.

I'm experiencing the same issue with our latest batch of T430s laptops, using SCCM 2007 to deploy a custom WIN7SP1 x64 image:
With the 1st shipment of T430s' we received (Type: 2355-CE8), our image deploys to a system in 31 minutes total. The WIM download + apply stage with this model takes 7 minutes during the deployment.
With the 2nd shipment of T430s' we received (Type: 2355-2G8), our image deploys to a system in 97 minutes total. The WIM download + apply stage with this model takes 72 minutes during the deployment.
Aside from an additional stick of memory and a backlit keyboard, these two shipments should've been identical. A quick device manager comparison of the two types shows only one major difference: the Type 2355-CE8 systems use a Micron SSD (C400-MTFDDAK128MAM) where as the Type 2355-2G8 use a Toshiba SSD (THNSNF128GCSS).
If I swap the Micron SSD (from a Type 2355-CE8 system) into one of the Type 2355-2G8 systems and re-image it, deployment now takes 33 minutes total, and the WIM + download stage takes 8 minutes during the deployment.
A 2-3 minute difference (total deployment time) is acceptable, but a 60+ minute difference is not.

  • Update Retriever - Missing Intel Management Engine Interface Driver for Lenovo Twist (334725RU)

  • Update Retriever - Missing Intel wireless driver for the W530

I can't find the driver g1w218ww_s64.exe available for download. I can see the 32 bit version, but not the 64 bit one. I even searched database.xml file to see if I'd accidentally hidden it, but can't see it there either.

I have verified the package is now in the catalog.  Can you run a search again with Update Retriever and see if it is listed?

Sorry for these issues, the updates team is still working on getting all the updates published for the new systems like X230...
Bluetooth should be there starting from today.
I recommend not installing RapidBoot Shield unless you have personally tested it and determined that it makes your image boot faster and doesn't cause side-effects.
Intel USB 3.0 has a wrong dependency on RapidBoot Shield, the team is working on removing the dependency.  If you are using ThinInstaller you may be able to figure out how to remove the dependency from the XML file yourself...

You need to go to This Page and download just about everything on it -espeically the  System Update Deployment Guide and start reading.  It'll take you a few hours to learn what you need to do and implement it if you are familar with editing system registeries and you have some luck and everything goes well.
You do NOT need to edit registry, just use Thin Installer instead of System Update on the clients. And there is no need to wade thru the deployment guide if you are setting this up in a home environment for just one or two clients.
Edit: Note that Thin Installer does not run on Vista SP2 (neither does System Update.)
Here are the few simple things you have to do:
    1. Download Update Retriever (UR) and Thin Installer (TI) from here.
    2. Install UR on one pc and TI on all clients you want to keep updated. UR installs into the Start -- All Programs -- Thinkvantage folder, TI installs into c:\program files\thininstaller.
    3. To initialize Update Retriever:
    a) specify the download folder, pick a place all clients can access. Create a new folder, TI will be confused if there is other stuff in it.
    b) change the settings to Severity -- Optional (assuming you want to see critical, recommended and optional downloads in the list), License -- Do not display and Status -- Active. After clicking next you enter the machine type, the op system and its language for each client you need to keep updated. Note that unless you change status to active everything will download as "test" and thus not be installed by the Thin Installer.
    4. Run the download, about 1 - 1.5GB for the first type, opsys and language combination  and an additional 0.5 - 1GB for each additional type depending on amount of overlap. You can be selective what you download but if you are an average home user -- just download all the items for your type/opsys/language combination(s) -- Thin Installer is a stripped down version of System Update and will decide what to install on the individual client. This is a one-time download, next time you run Update Retriever it will just download new drivers.
    5. To initialize TI on each client, copy the program from the Program Files directory and paste a shortcut to the desktop. Then rightclick on the shortcut and choose Properties, and in the target field of the shortcut tab after "C:\Program Files\ThinInstaller\ThinInstaller.exe" add the following: -repository your_UR_download_directory.
    6. Run the Thin installer on each client, it will perform exactly as System Update did, down to making the same mistakes that System Update did.
    7. As the date is getting close when Windows Update will start distributing Vista SP2 you may want to consider using Microsoft's SPBlockerTools preventing SP2 installation for up to 12 months.
    8. Debugging Tips
TI ending with message An error occurred while gathering user information is reported when running under Vista SP2 -- TI will not run in SP2.
Getting TI to "see" the database downloaded by UR is the main problem. If TI ends with a message saying corrupt or not found database you probably made a spelling mistake in the directory specified in the -repository parameter. If TI ends with a message saying no applicable packages to install it can mean a number of things:
    a) If you are unused to modifying the parameters in a shortcut you may have added -repository to the second field in the shortcut tab instead of the top field labeled Target, the two fields look very similar or you just made a typo in "-repository".
    b) Open UR again and first choose Modify settings on the left and double check that the directory there is the same directory you specified in -repository. Then choose Manage repository -- Update view and double check that all packages have status Active. If they don't it's not necessary to download again, just select all and hit the modify button to change status from Test to Active.
    c) In C:\Program Files\ThinInstaller\logs there are update logs from TI. Open one using Notepad and in edit menu search for the string
    Message: 'Share name' to use:
This will tell you in which directory TI is searching for the updates. If it can't find a -repository parameter it uses an empty default databse
    d) If you used System Update regularly up to when it stopped working on April 1 and if you have an older model with not so many new driver updates it may actually happen that there are no new updates for your machine (even though you downloaded a lot.) Go to here and enter all fields except model to see what Lenovo shipped after April 1. (Don't click on driver matrices, staying on the downloads and drivers pages will give you a list in chronological order with the ones after April 1 at the top.)  Also  be aware that the database UR downloads from is at least 2 weeks behind when the drivers first become available on the web. Right now, the only new download in the database  applicable to most notebooks after April 1 is the Access Connections 5.22 driver. To check what release you have installed open Access Connections and go to help.
I just did a clean install of a Vista64 system on my T500 and after installing the first few drivers manually (including drivers for harddisk and ethernet) let Thin Installer install the remaining 36 items for me. The only item left to fix was the known bug in the Ricoh 4 in 1 card driver SU installation. (For a clean install you need to run TI or SU more than once, it doesn't find all drivers the first time.)

When I start TI after I pointed it to my repository I get a message that no packages applicable were found.  I did not download all the updates just a few to test it, will it not work unless all updates are downloaded?
Did you change status from test to active in UR before downloading? If not you can change the downloaded items in the manage repository menu.
Assuming the items you did download were not already installed on your client with TI it should work.

  • Update retriever failed driver download and driver not showing up

I'm trying to download 2 Windows 7 drivers for a 3372. One is the AMD Graphics Device software (hmd608ww), which fails everytime I try to download it. On update retriever, it shows a different file size than what shows up on the support site. The other driver I'm trying to download is the Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver 64bit (h4it03ww). This one isn't showing up on update retriever, but shows up on the support site. I have the 32bit (h4is03ww), but the 64bit doesn't show up.
Any help is greatly appreciated. I saw on another thread that somone had a similar issue with downloads failing because of an incorrect file size being listed, maybe the problem with hmd608ww is similar.
    Solved!

I was able to download the AMD driver from Lenovo support site with no issues.
Your might consider downloading the driver from amd.com.  Excellent site.  I have AMD video card. This could help sort out the download issues.   I would suspect UR has a older version of the AMD  driver, thus the size difference.( amd driver released  10 sept 2012).
    ==
As far as the INTEL rapid storage driver, drivers show up on support site before being rolled out to System Update/thin installer/Update retriever.   Version 11.0.0.1032, win 64, x131E, was released 30 may 2012.
    ==
I think you need to delete the x131E from the UR database to force a reload. ( I have no UR experience, this is just my comments from reading posts here.
As far as other posts concerning download errors: This related to System Update download packages having  the wrong checksum for the package.  This would NOT affect a download from the support site.

  • Moving the update retriever to another machine

If I move the update retirever install to another machine (but keep the repository the same server location) - Do I need to move across any files ? are all the settings concerned contained in the repository ?
    Solved!

    Hi joebhoy,
I just did a fresh install of Update Retriever on a T530 and there is an option for Repository path. You'll be able to select the server location and you'll be all set; you shouldn't have to move any files. I hope that helps!

  • ThinkVantage Update Retriever Fails when trying to Export Drivers

Hello, I am working on setting up MDT as a replacement for Ghost, I found the ThinkVantage Update Retriever and was happy to see I could download drivers easily. I was even impressed to see that I could extract them all at once rather then one by one. The problem is I try to extract the driver (in the case for the L520) and they all fail with "Failed: Extraction error". I would love to use this option since I need to set driver repositories for 10 or so models (and growing) and doing them all by hand would be - time consuming. If there is anything needed please let me know. PoisonStorm

Where are you specifying the folder to extract to?
Are you selecting all L520 updates?
When using MDT with Update Retriever, I would suggest only extracting ethernet and chipset packages and importing those into your task sequence.  For everything else, I would use Thin Installer to install just the appropriate packages pulled from your Update Retriever repository.  As mentioned in a previous post the TVT Admin Tools page has the System Update Deployment Guide v4 which describes how to use Thin Installer.  There is also a paper that describes integrating with MDT here:

It has big bug/mistake in update reteriever backend repository database,
for 7673, it is intel/x3100 integration video controller,
and for 8919, there is Nvidia Quadro NVS/FX video controller,
how smart answer "no new updates were found for the systems your specified." I got..
is there any Lenovo support specialist could help me to forward this issue to Lenovo developer team?

    2366 - T30
    2373 - T42

    Update retriever host:
R51-2888KV1, 2GB memory, 160GB HDD, WinXP SP3 with latest microsoft updates installed.

I had similar issues and decided to go back to 2.13, and problems gone.  I can now update my systems again!
here is the url for the 2.13 version..

Boy was I getting worried.  Lenovo can someone please fix that little problem.  See my post in system update as well for more details on my actual issue.

  • Update retriever M90z

    Hello,
We are setting up the update retirever to simplify Lenovo updates but we encounter some problems. For example, a customer of mine has bought 20 ThinkCentre M90z (3429) and when downloading new updates for that system I am missing the following.
    Intel Active Management Technology (AMT)
    Desktop Power Manger
These are listed as downloads on the website but not found by update retriever. That leaves us with a solution that only does part of what it should do and I cant see the point of it then since I then have to package the reamining updates and send them out via SCCM. Is this because it is a new model and you have failed to add everything to the new model or what is going on?

Sorry for the delay.  Working through some internal issues regarding content support for ThinkStation.  Trying to get the content updated and released as soon as possible.
I believe the driver you are looking for has been replaced by the following:
