Lenovo T61 laptop touchpad specification question

Hello,
I have a 2.5 year old Lenovo T61 laptop (14" screen). Which Lenovo laptops have the same touchpad (trackpad/trackpoint) technology as the T61? The touchpad on the T61 is by far the best touchpad I have used on any laptop. The touchpad feels good on your fingers (surface roughness?), is very responsive, and can be used for hours. Does anybody know the specification for this touchpad?
Thank you,
treaders

T61 had similar touchpad to the T60, R60, R61, Z6x, etc.
But the later thinkpads, T400, T500, R400, R500, W500 have a larger touchpad, but the feel of the touchpad surface is about the same.
The current (latest) thinkpads, T4x0s, T410, T510, W510 have changed the surface feel of the touchpad. Most people like it, but some people don't.

Jin Li

  • Lenovo T61 laptop - Touchpad cursor click action not working

My Laptop is just 1.5 yrs old. I directly ordered from lenovo website.
I recently noticed that my mouse touch pad doesnt work. I tried all below options
    1. updated the mouse driver
    2. uninstalled and installed mouse driver freshly from lenovo website
still no use.. I am finding it difficult, i didnt a solution for it, i am currently using the USB mouse to use the laptop.
Any help inthis regard is highly appreciated. Thanks.

i had the same problem. what solved this for me was to simply go to device manager and under mice and other pointing devices uninstall the touchpad, i had a usb mouse handy just in case i needed it, but then i restarted the laptop and it auto reinstalled touchpad for me and then all options worked on startup.

  • T61 ThinkPad touchpad specifications

What are the specifications for the touchpad on the T61 ThinkPad?
I'm curious because this is the best touchpad I have used on a laptop computer. Is there an industry wide specification for the surface roughness of touchpads? I find the sensitivity and accuracy of this touchpad outstanding.
    Thanks.

Thinkpad keyboard are renowned for usuability and consistency and rarely redesigned. Their removal and replacement is rudimentary.
Removing a few screws and unplugging a single ribbon (and the easiset ribbon on the entire Thinkpad) is the only step.
You'll take a bigger risk of cross threading the screws when sealing it than anything else.

  • Lenovo T61 randomly, suddenly stops

    Hi Guys,
I am using lenovo t61 laptop which I bought in year 2007, It started shutting down suddenly when I am using it without any error message. I thought its because of heating issues and changed the cpu fan, even though it did not fix the issues. Please let me know If someone had already faced this issue and there is a FIX.

when you say stops can you elaborate on this? i.e. there is an error message that pops up or if the system shutsdown without warning?

  • PLEASE HELP : Lenovo T61 recovery

    hi,
I have tried to install windows XP in my lenovo T61 laptop. during that i havent deleted the hidden service partition, but i deleted the partition that contained windows vista. Currently XP is installed, but i want to get vista back , what is the dos commands that will allow me to view the hidden partiton and then enable me to run the vista setup from it ?
    Thank you for support.

There is no DOS command that I know of.
There is a repair diskette that can fix it but it requires a floppy drive.

  • Lenovo T61 Turning OFF Itself

    Hey All,
I have a lenovo T61 laptop. I bought this around 2 years back. The problem I am facing now is the laptop tuns off itself. Do you know any known reasons for this. When I see the bottom of the laptop when it switch off its hot. Dont know if it is because of this. Please let me know if you guys have faced this before. Thanks for your help!

    Hi,
I had the exact same problem on my T61P which thankfully was quite simple to fix!
I tried TPFanControl and whilst it helped (i.e. I could see when my machine was getting too hot and was about to turn itself off so I could stop loading the CPU/GPU and let it cool again) it did not solve the problem, TPFanControl 'helps' control the internal temperature by better control of the system fans but does not solve the cause of the problem - overheating.
After doing some research, the problem was most likely the CPU cooling fins and fan full of muck and or the thermal grease on the CPU and GPU needing replacing, so, took about 15 minutes to strip the fan and cooling out, clean and re-apply thermal grease.  End result - no overheating and no turning off!  The service manuals are readily available showing you exactly where the screws etc are located to make the job easy!
    Fixed.

  • Lenovo T61 wont boot from disk or blue button but it will run pc doctor

So I had left my Lenovo T61 Laptop on overnight and I woke up to a black screen with some sort of error message about the hard drive. I have had previous error messages about the hard drive on a blue screen but it has always returned to normal when I switch it back on.
So after I try to turn it back on I get a blue screen about the hard drive, laptop resets and it wont start up normally.
This is what happens when I try to start it...
I have the option to press the blue button
after that Im on a black screen with the option to start windows normally or launch start up repair.
It doesnt matter what option I choose, a loading bar appears with 'windows is loading files...'
the next screen is another loading screen, 'microsoft corporation'
after it has been on this for over 5 minutes, the screen goes black and stays that way.
If I put in my restore disk (I have  and boot from the drive it skips the option of starting normally or going to recovery center and starts on the loading screen (windows is loading files...) then goes to the 'microsoft corporation' loading bar, after a while it goes black and stays that way. I can hear the disk spinning and the disk is new without scratches.
If I put pc doctor in and boot from the cd, pc doctor comes up. I have ran the test twice and each time everything passed.
I had vista 32 on, and that is the recovery cds I have. I have used cd 1, 2 and 3 without any sucsess.
If one person gives me the correct this without sending it to Lenovo I will paypal you £10 (basically buying you a beer)
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I hadnt tried that, I didnt know I could. When I did that test it came back with a 0000 error. I googled that and found a few thread on this forum saying its means the hard drive is on its way out. So its looks like I have to send it in.
Im not sure if this is the model number, but the type is 8898-AQG
If I try to run safe mode  its starts loading files on a black screen. The last one its loads is
    'Loaded: \windows\system32\drivers\crcdisk.sys'
I have no clue what that is, but it stops there.

HI! Firefox ask me to do update, and now ia have 4,0 but now my laptops touchpad scroll not working? i have lenovo t61 and i m useing xp. What i must to to

Hmmm, Norton extensions are broken again in Firefox 4.0.1. It seems that Norton didn't allow for Firefox 4.0 security updates when they updated their Firefox extension for Firefox 4.0. Norton says they'll have a fix in two weeks. A Norton user posted a fix in this forum thread.

  • Lenovo T61 palmrest , want to change it with T400 palmrest!

Hello thinkpad users .As seen in the title this is the operation that i`m willing to make on my new t61 laptop .I heard that this kind of change could be made without problem .
But i have 2-3 questions. If i change the palmrest do i have to buy a new touchpad chip ,or is it possible to use the t61 old touchpad component (the thing under the plastic   palmrest ) with the new t400 palmrest !?
My laptop came with a finger print reader module.Surely i have to buy the new palmrest with  fp intergrated  on it ,but same, could i use the old fp module ,or i have to buy a new one special for this t400 palmrest .To be more precise do i have to buy the palmrest only with the hole for the fp reader ,or with the fp reader module integrated !?
Hope i made myself clear .best regards,

I could be wrong, but I don't think this is possible. I just built a T400 and I was hoping that the plastics were the same as the smaller 14.1" T61, but they were not. I didn't specifically try to swap the palmrests, but everything else is different so I don't think the would exchange.
Also, the touchpad and FPR are part of the palmrest on both model. You can remove the touchpad, but they are usually replaced together.

  • G700 Laptop touchpad/pointing device not working

    Hi
Brand new G700 laptop - touchpad worked fine for a week or so then just stopped. Using USB mouse at the moment. A message in the Lenovo support center states that the "Lenovo Pointing Device" is disabled. Installed new driver - didnt help. pointing device is not showing up in device manager.Info on "ELAN" tab on the hardware manager/mouse page is greyed out. Really no idea what to do about this now....help!
    Tom

    hi tomdeal82,
    Welcome to the Forums.
The "Lenovo Pointing Device is disabled" error usually appears if the Touchpad cable is disconnected from the motherboard. To verify this, can you try to launch the OneKey Recovery app (there should be an icon on the desktop) or the OneKey Recovery button and observe.
If the mouse still doesn't work on the OneKey Recovery environment, I recommend you contact lenovo to report the issue as the touchpad is most likely defective. Otherwise, try to perform a system restore or a factory reset to rule out any possible software issues.

  • Web Camera doesn't work on my Lenovo G570 laptop, Please Help?

Well I recently bought a lenovo G570 laptop. The webcam worked fine for the first month. I don't really know when the camera stopped working but it seems that every software that uses a camera can detect the camera but when the video window pops up it is just plain white. I know the reason isn't because of the hot key FN+ESC because it works fine, I can disable and enable the camera. I read many threads with the same problem. I uninstalled and re-installed the drivers and easy capture but it does not solve my problem. Can someone please help?

As I  understand the camera is not working.
If the camera is getting activate by Fn+Esc key then it could be driver issue.
You need to uninstall the camera software and other relates software.
Update the BIOS and then install the camera drier
Download the BIOS update for Windows 7 32bit from the mentioned below web link.

  • I want to buy a new laptop so my question is should i buy the new 2013 macbook air 13in or wait for the next model (june 2014) ?

This will be my first mac laptop, so my question if i am goin to miss a huge jump in the specifications for the next year release or not ?

We know there will eventually be a new MacBook Air (though the terms of use here prohibt speculation about it). We have no idea when it will come out or what it's specs will be. Retired Engineer's advice is exactly the same as mine. If you need a computer now, buy it. It is a powerful computer and except for the fact there's no 2TB SSD available (not that I could afford it if one existed) it could be my one and only computer. If you merely want a new computer, wait until you need one.

  • T61 Laptop to TV

I would like to connect my T61 laptop to a plasma TV that has an SVGA input.  Their is no SVGA port on the T61. Could I use the 15 pin VGA one and what would I need as a connector?  I found an inexpensive connector which states: "This adapter works with graphics cards that have TV-Out function capability through the VGA connector." Does the T61 have this capability? Thanks.

i think the converter cable would only work with the Nvidia graphic chip, don't think the Intel X3100 supports it.
