Lenovo T61 windows 7 Problems

Hello
I would like to write something about my problem and I would appreciate any suggestion you might have, but I would like to solve this without having to reinstall. That is due to personal issues. I just don't have luxury of time for that..
I have IBM Lenovo T61 with 3GB RAM, nVidia Quadro 140m and when it was bought, it had Windows Vista. All the drivers were working finely and I had no problem. But then the other day I bought an upgrade for my vista and let it be upgraded to Windows 7 and unfortenately few things stopped working. The whole laptop is suddenly very slow, audio is stuttering (all sounds, even system or winamp is being interrupted by clicks which are kinda constant and I can't get rid of them) and video seems to be blurry. I've already tried to check BIOS for any bad setting (didn't find any, doesn't mean there isn't one I didn't notice tbh), reinstalled nVidia drivers and even sound drivers. The video seems more smooth now but windows is still slow as hell.
Please help

Have you tried installing ThinkVantage System Update for Win 7 and letting it pull down the appropriate drivers?

  • Lenovo T61 Backlight Problem !

Hi, so i bought a notebook Lenovo T61 last year in september. The model is 6459CTO with a 15.4 WSXGA screen. This is how it shows on the packing list.
    15.4 WSXGA- TFT
So 25 days after warranty expired the notebook screen died. How **bleep**ty is that ? When i turn on the notebook, i only see very dim thinkpad on the screen and then it gets completely dark. After researching, I am quite sure its either the inverter or the backlight. Since i am a college student i cant really afford getting it fixed so i have to do it myself.
Can anyone help me find the backlight ? I tried finding the backlight online but no success. Also it would be great if someone knows how to open up the notebook LCD and replace the backlight. I have all the required tools including the solder. Please help me out !!! Thanks

    Welcome to the forum!
Before you start pulling that T61 apart, let's review a couple of things:
    a) Does it have Intel or nVidia graphics?
    b) Does it display anything on external monitor?
    c) Was the LCD reddish/pinkish on initial boot before this last episode?
While it may very well be the inverter or backlight (more likely) you may also be looking at a motherboard problem. That's why I'm asking whether the machine displays on external monitor.
Replacing a backlight is NOT a job for a novice, take it from someone who's done it in the past but chooses to have it done by another party nowadays...
Good luck and let us know.
    Cheers,
    George

  • T61 Windows 7 64bit BSOD igdkmd64.sys with 965 when on batteries

As long as I'm plugged in, I don't get the BSOD.
Most of the time, when I'm running on batteries, and waking up from sleep, I get the BSOD with the igdkmd64.sys.
    I have a Lenovo T61, Windows 7 64 bit, 4GB ram,
device manager says I have: Intel 965 Express chipset for the display.
I just recently installed windows7 64 bit on a new hard drive.
The drivers I have installed are: 15.12.75.4.64.1930 (or 8.15.10.1930 from device manager)

    Hi, lumangoy
I did some research on the issue and found this forum from Microsoft. The consensus on the forum is that it is a driver issue. I looked at the driver matrix on Lenovo Support and found a newer version of the chipset driver than what you specified in your post. Your current verison is 8.15.10.1930 and the latest from Lenovo's site is 9.3.0.1021. So I would try updating to that first, and that can be found here. Upon getting to this page, select the approriate operating system and driver category from the dropdown menus to filter the search results.
Another suggestion from a moderator on the Microsoft forum is to use Intel's site to make sure the drivers are up to date. The link provided in the forum can be found here. This will take you to a site where Intel will scan the hardware of the computer and make sure that the latest drivers are installed.
Good luck, and let me know how it goes,
    Adam

i got a new lenovo desktop windows 8.1,installed itunes and synced my iphone 4 no problems. then i imported a cd of songs which showed up in recently added but not in main library ,therefore it did not sync to the iphone. how can i get new songs to appear in the main library and sync properly
    thanks
    john

Check the songs are really not in the Music section of the library by clicking the magnifying glass in the search box and unticking Search Entire Library if it is ticked, then typing in the name of the album. If the tracks still don't show try closing iTunes and deleting a hidden file called sentinel from inside your iTunes folder. This should make iTunes run an integrity check on the database when you start it again. Make sure the tracks are checked before you try syncing again.

  • T61 display problem on both Internal and External monitors

    Hi,
I have Lenovo T61 of Type 7662, Model CTO. One month back the right hinge of my laptop has broken. Now the display on the screen is not at all readable. If I reboot the laptop, it is getting loaded, but the display on the screen is not readable and also it is displaying 4 windows without any clear visibility.
I thought the problem may be with the LCD cable under Right hinge. So, I tried to check this with an external monitor. But, the same problem is occurring on the external monitor also. So, I couldn't find what exactly the problem is. If anybody has this kind of problem, please help me on fixing this issue.
    Thanks,
    RamPap.

well the GPU issue is fixable under free repair, but given that your hinge is broken, not sure whether the free warranty applies in this case.
Basically you need a new motherboard.
Also, can you post a picture of the condition of the hinge? (upload it to tinypic or flickr, then link it here).

  • Lenovo R61 Windows XP Freezing

    Hello!
I have original recovery cd of Windows XP for lenovo R61/T61 models.
I currently have Lenovo R61 type 8933-A32 model.
It install fine, but after that in starts randomly freezing:
    - In bios I choose compatibility mode not AHCI, due to fact that Win XP SP2 don't have necessary drivers.
    - I updated BIOS
    - I updated all the drivers via Lenovo system update utility. (no yellow exclamation marks in manager)
    - Installed SP3
    - Installed Intel matrix storage driver (no effect)
Freezes are random, i cannot duplicate them. In the evenet viewer I get no errors.
To stop freeze I have to shutdown the computer.
!!!! I am curently using Linux Mint 13 Mate -> not a single problem so far. Working fine, so problem in not hardware but software related.
    And ideas?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hello!
I just unistalled power manager, no luck. Freezing continues.
    I tried original:
    Windows XP for lenovo T61/R61
    Windows 7 Proffesional
    -> freezing continues
I have one remark, regarding windows 7. When laptop was on battery power it was working ok, when i pluged it it frote within 1minute.
When I installed windows 7 again, it was freezing again and again - ACPI error was seen on event viewer.
Today I wil install windows vista, and tried if it is working fine - vista was preinstalled on my R61.
To date - linux in working like a charm!
Perhaps there is some glich in BIOS that is the cuse for freezing. For know for my type 8933-A32 there is no new BIOS updates - 2.24 is the newest...

  • ThinkPad T61, Windows XP, Random Hanging

    Hi,
    We have 30 Lenovo T61's (TYPE 7659-AT6)
What I normally do is grab one of these notebooks and create our ghost image. We run Windows XP Professional with SP2, Microsoft Office 2003, and a few other usuals - Nero, Adobe Reader, Flash Player, and so on.
The machine has all the Windows Updates, and all of the Office Updates. Everything is patched with the latest updates.
Often, the T61 laptops we have rolled out hang. Sometimes it resolves itself after a minute or so, but otherwise it will continue to hang, and you'll have to go in and clear the problem in Task Manager. It can happen in Outlook, Word, Adobe Reader. Even in Windows Explorer itself when I went to drag a few folders across to a new location. Just stops!
It occurs regardless if the laptop is connected to our network or not.
Apart from the lockups, the machines do run well.
I should add that we operate 60 IBM/Lenovo T43 laptops the same way, and very successfully.
Since this first happened, we again tried to set up a new image again, in case anything went bad in the original image we made. The 2nd image was even built on another T61 (not the same one as the original image), just to be certain. Again, Apps were installed, any possible updates were done. On this laptop, I also updated the BIOS.
Still, the same problems kept occuring.
So, with this same laptop, we disabled wireless and bluetooth. Still hangs.
The event viewer shows nothing worthwhile, other than the typical "Application Hang" message, to which Microsoft provides no specific information for. I have scoured the web with this limited information.
Whilst we thought initially perhaps a hardware fault, could this be possible with all 30 units that we have?
I note on the Lenovo support site this morning that there is a problem with the BIOS/BIOS update that relates to the T61 model.
    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-69703.html
Can anyone shed any light on this problem, and if it might be related to this BIOS update? or is there another solution?
    Thanks in advance

Hi Thanks for the tip. Yeah, I've tried power manager drivers. In fact, I am not a big fan of installing 3rd party utilities, but I did install System Updates 3.1.3 in the end to see what other updates and drivers it suggested. We've let it install everything other than 3rd party apps like PC Doctor and Presentation Director, as I really, really don't want those on the laptops.
As for BIOS, the laptops shipped with BIOS vers. 7LET56WW dated 2007-10-18
I have one laptop updated to BIOS vers. 7LETB4WW dated 2008-3-24
They both still have the issue. I do note however that there is a crticial BIOS update pending for this model that relates to system performance and memory errors. It is not ready for download yet.
    Its at http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-69703.html
I wonder if this could be the fix. I won't know until I can download it.

  • [SOLVED] Lenovo T61 will not go to standby/suspend

    Hi All -
My Lenovo T61 will no longer suspend/standby.  It seems like its going to, half-moon begins flashing but then it seems to come back to a halfway state and I see "Syncing Filesystems" on the screen...  Any clues as to where I should look to gain some insight here?  FWIW this only started happening recently, it was working great for a long time beforehand.

Can you solve it in both in T61 and X61 by "rmmod vboxdrv"?

  • Lenovo offering Windows refunds in Germany

I know from several people in Germany that Lenovo is offering Windows refunds of 30 Euros for people who do the following:
turn down the Windows EULA agreement
mail back the Windows serial number tag on the bottom of the laptop
    return any Windows media
write a letter stating they will not use Windows
There is a standard pdf for people to send instead of a letter. I have a copy of this file. Let me know if you'd like me to email it to you.
How about doing the same for here in North America? I seriously want to buy a T61 laptop but will NOT PURCHASE a Windows license. I hear Dell will be expanding their Linux offerings to the XPS line of laptops. Unless Lenovo offers Windows refunds I will probably purchase a Dell with Ubuntu preloaded.
LENOVO, DO THE RIGHT THING. OFFER WINDOWS REFUNDS!! WE DON'T WANT TO PAY FOR SOMETHING WE WILL NEVER USE!!

  • Official 2009 Lenovo T61/T61p Nvidia Video Drivers: Please Consider One Last Update for the Road

The title of this new thread says it all ..... 3 years since the last offical Lenovo T61/T61p Nvidia Video Driver Package release ..... a virtual lifetime in computer science years.
I'm looking for advice on how to best lobby the technical folks at Lenovo (by phone or here on the Forums) for one last official Lenovo "Nvidia" video driver update for our T61 and T61p units.
Lenovo's most current "ancient" 2009 Nvidia driver packages (found here),
    http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS001342
    http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS003876
    http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS003605
all leave quite a bit of 3D (and some 2D) performance laying out there on the table based on my own testing with current modern Nvidia reference drivers on a cloned test mule hard drive (and never once crashed with the newer Nvidia reference drivers under WinXP 32-bit or Win7 32 bit).
Most all the major 3D gaming benchmarks were nearly doubled, and most importantly, my real world qualitative performance experience seemed even greater than the nearly doubled quantitative benchmark results.
I'm wondering if starting this new thread would be of any benefit to encourage the good folks at Lenovo to consider one last update after 3+ years?
Before I go to the trouble of posting my results, it is my hope that Lenovo could simply try the latest Nvidia reference drivers for themselves, tweak them (if even necessary) and then issue one last offical T61/T61p Nivida driver package update for the road .... hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of T61/T61p w/Nvidia GPU units are still in reliable daily service.
    http://www.geforce.com/drivers
    Something to please consider.
Two (I used to have Five) - T61p 15.4" WS T9300 2.5Ghz units, August 08/08 Builds with FX570M Nvidia Graphics; ... One W520 i7-2860QM w/2000M Nvidia Graphics (most recent acquisition and stupidly fast); .... One - T42 4:3 15" Flexview 1.8GHz with ATI Graphics (still perfect for traveling); ... Two - T500 15.4" units both with ATI HD3650 Graphics.

    Hi eecon
It is considered fortunate that Lenovo provides newer driver for newer OS even after the system was phased out. From what I know, most of the OEM / manufacturers do not provide drivers for newer version of Windows when the product is phased out.
Furthermore, graphic card vendors (e.g. NVIDIA, Intel, AMD, etc.) oftenly release new drivers and it is hard for manufacturers to catch up with them. Usually, the purpose of OEM providing new driver is to resolve existing issues. If you need performance, get newer drivers directly from vendors website.
    Have a nice day!
