Lenovo T61 won't stay in Standby mode

Im running windows xp. my computer wont stay in stanby mode when i close the lid or click start, shut down, and then choose the standby option.  When i click shut down the computer wont stay shut down.  It just restarts.  Basically my computer wont stay in standby mode or shutdown.
what could be the problem? and solution...?

Check your system logs in your Console application for clues to what is triggering it to come back on. USB hubs or something connection to the computer via USB or Firewire often cause this issue. Try disconnecting any external devices.

  • IPod won't stay in standby mode

When I turn off the iPod by holding down the play button, it does go into standby mode, but only for a very short time.
But if it's off for more than a few minutes, it always restarts whenever I turn it back on, meaning it shows that apple logo for quite a while, and starts at the main menu.
It's not a huge problem, but I think it's very annoying, and I really miss the standby mode from my previous iPod (also an iPod Classic, it was sent to repairs and I got a new one back - if this one is faulty as well, I'm gonna be really ****** off with the quality of these products)

The alarm-clock might be turned on, try to turn this off.

  • Apple TV won't stay in standby

Whenever I put Apple TV on standby then exit and go to watch TV or a DVD within minutes the Apple TV has powered up again. It won't stay in standby mode.
    Any suggestions?

Having the same issue. Holding play also no longer seems to work in putting ATV into standby mode, and now requires going to the menu selection. But as soon as another button is touched on my remote, ATV lights back up.

  • [SOLVED] Lenovo T61 will not go to standby/suspend

    Hi All -
My Lenovo T61 will no longer suspend/standby.  It seems like its going to, half-moon begins flashing but then it seems to come back to a halfway state and I see "Syncing Filesystems" on the screen...  Any clues as to where I should look to gain some insight here?  FWIW this only started happening recently, it was working great for a long time beforehand.
    Thanks,

I have the same problem in T410, but I can not solve it with your method.
I wonder if it affects all thinkpad models...
Can you solve it in both in T61 and X61 by "rmmod vboxdrv"?

  • T61 WinXP won't stay in Standby or Hibernate

I have a T61 running WinXP that will not stay in Standby or Hibernate modes.  Any time I force the computer to go into Standby or Hibernate, it enters the sleep state then immediately resumes.
Here is a list of things I have attempted:
    - Updated drivers for video and network
    - Disabled Intel AMT
    - Disabled firewall and antivirus
    - Disabled network cards to wake on LAN (both in the BIOS and in Device Manager)
    - Nothing in the Event Log
    - No processes are running when performing standby or hibernate
    - Unpugged USB devices
    - Disabled wireless (WiFi and Bluetooth)
    - Created another local user account and confirmed the problem still exists
    - Ran CCleaner for my temp files and registry clean
    - No applications running when I attempt sleep mode
Other than reimaging the computer, is there anything else I can do?  The symptoms started after I installed the DirecTV2PC software, which I have uninstalled.

I have the same issue. I've tried a number of things which I listed down below and they are in the order that I did them for the most part. The issues that I have are the laptop will not shut down from start menu, it'll shut down for a second then boot back up.
Running XP SP3 possibly downgraded from Vista Basic, I say this because it is a Lenovo Thinkpad T61 laptop I got from work and has a Vista Basic sticker on the palm rest but running xp.  Can't standby or hibernate, can only shut down holding power button for 4 sec. When I close the lid it will go into standby, (the indicators will go to the half moon, then will jump back to battery. Same goes for trying hibernate and shutdown from the start menu.
From all the options that I've tried, if I enabled them or changed any settings and the change didn't fix the issue, I reset the settings to what they previously were. I talked a network manager who had the same problem where he claimed to have fixed it with some registry settings that he can't remember which ones there were.
    1) Checkdisk
    2) Defragmenting HDD
    3) Cleaned up Hard Drive of temp files
    4) Can't properly shutdown from safe mode.
    5) Uninstalled Alternative Input Type from Office 2003 (ctfmon.exe)
    6) registry edited “powerdown after shutdown” to enabled
    7) Unchecked “automatically restart” in system failure settings of startup and recovery in system properties.
    8) msconfig: unchecked LPMGR in startup, unchecked thinkvantage registry monitor service in services.
    9) Enabled AMT in bios. Changed thinkvantage power control to all modes, and enabled intel amt while cntrl+p options.
    10) Reset all options in #9 to default.
    11) Updated ACPI Power Management, Management Engine FW and Power Manager from Lenovo site.
    12) Updated Bios, uninstalled power manager, uninstalled power management driver both with revo, used ccleaner to clean registry
    13) Restarted and installed power management driver and installed power
Any other suggestions? I also tried shutting down without the battery and the laptop plugged into the wall but same deal. I'm trying to find a solution without 1) having to send the laptop into tech support for them to fix or 2) completely reinstalling the OS.
Thanks in adavnced for any help.

  • S205 XP won't stay on standby, can't adjust screen timeout

A couple of weeks ago I bought an S205 without OS and installed my own copy of XP on it (SP3). I spent a long time trying to dual boot with Linux but the UEFI system seems to prevent this... I'm not tech enough to understand why, but I gave up trying after a week tearing my hair out.
Anyway, XP runs nice and quick now but I have 2 problems with it.
1 - When I put the computer in standby mode it wakes itself up sometimes for no reason. This happens even when there are no applications open.
2 - The screen turns itself off after 1 minute. I have installed Lenovo Power Management, and no matter what the settings are in this, the screen ALWAYS turns itself off after 1 minute. Checked in Windows Power settings, but the Lenovo software seems to override these.
Any help or advice much appreciated. Thanks

seems that something gave a wakeup order...

  • Iphone won't stay in Airplane mode after connecting to some accessories

I've observed that the iphone doesn't stay in airplane mode after I connect it to a Kenwood KCA-iP500 adapter for Kenwood head units. Here's the story.
After I connect the iphone to the iP500, the iphone pops up with a message that says the attached accessory is not compatible with the iphone. It further asks me if I want turn on airplane mode. I choose to activate airplane mode, and I assume it turns on airplane mode. After my drive I disconnect the iphone from the ip500, and I observe that the iphone comes out of airplane mode automatically.
The use of airplane mode is crucial for me because I work in a Mexican border town and I want to avoid data roaming charges. I manually put the phone in airplane mode, put it into standby mode and went about my business. Some time later I went back to the home screen and noticed that the phone was trying to register to a phone network. I kept trying to keep it in airplane mode but it kept coming out by itself.
I'm guessing that the feature that temporarily activates airplane mode and then automatically deactivates it when the accessory is disconnected keeps it out of airplane mode.
The good news is turning the phone off and then back on fixes the problem.

  • Airport Extreme won't stay in Bridge Mode

I have the AE being used as a USB print server and for some reason it doesn't stay in Bridge mode. Every few days/weeks I have to run the AirPort Utility and put it back on Bridge Mode. No idea how/why it gets reset.
I am printing over the network (not wireless) from two iMacs. The AE is plugged into a router in the basement. Any other configuration options I could try?

I'm having a similar problem and I'm at wit's end. I know almost nothing about hardware.
My DSL comes in through AT&T on a Motorola MSTATEA (whatever that is) modem and goes to a single iMac. The brand new Airport Extreme handles my 802.11n network (several iMacs) without a problem.
When I change the configuration to be DSL modem > AE > wireless iMacs, there is DSL for everybody for a short period of time (seconds to minutes). Then I get a very ugly error message (I believe an exclamation mark on a red background) saying that 192.168.1.64 (the address printed on the modem) is in use by 00:1b:63:... (not the MAC ID of my Airport Extreme) Server 192.168.1.254. Airport Utility starts and tells me I must set up my AE in bridge mode. I do that successfully, restart my hardware, and the whole cycle begins again. Airport Utility keeps telling me my AE needs to be changed bridge mode, and I keep doing it. Is there a way to verify that the AE ever even accepts to the command to go to bridge mode?

  • Music won't stay in shuffle mode ?

    Hi all,
This problem seems to have started after intalling one of the last ITunes updates a while ago.
Basically when I shuffled a song list it would stay in shuffle mode until you unclicked the shuffle icon. Now the shuffle mode seems to randomly turn itself off.
Does anyone know why this is happening ?
    Thanks all,
    Martin

Ok I've worked out what causes this - if you play a podcast it turns off the shuffle when you go back to songs. Do you think this is a bug ? If so how could I report to Apple ?
    Thanks all

  • IPod won't stay in disk mode

I have the dreaded sad face icon. I am attempting to restore it. I am able to put the iPod into disk mode. It will stay in disk mode and charge with the A/C charger. When I try to connect it to the pc it will flash "do not disconnect" for a few seconds then reboot and go back to the sad face. It will not stay in disk mode long enough for me to attempt a restore. Anyone had a similar problem?

Well, I got frustrated enough to try the "whack in on the desk" method of iPod restoration I have read about in a few places. Low and behold IT WORKED! Took two tries. I banged it on my desk fairly hard three times and now it has started fine and is charging as I type this. All songs are still there at first glance. It seems like a dumb thing and your mileage may vary, but it worked for me.

  • Satellite P100-286 won't go into standby mode

I've noticed that even though it's set to sleep when I close the lid. The fans keep going and the sleep led remains blue.
Reading the manual suggest the machine should turn off the fans, hardware etc and the light should be orange.
Hibernation works fine, but I want it to sleep.
I suspect the problem lies with the NVidia 7900 GS Drivers I am using (7.15.10.9754).
I've tried going back to the Microsoft ones, with no luck.
Which drivers should I be using to solve the sleep issue and how to I get Vista to use them? It always seems to use the latest.

    Hi
    Do you use Windows Vista?
On the Toshiba notebooks with window XP the power saver is installed and controls the settings for standby and hibernation mode.
I assume on the notebooks with Vista OS the Toshiba power saver was not installed and you have to check the settings in the Vista power options.
I dont know what drivers you use and where you have downloaded it but you should use the drivers delivered with the notebook and the Toshiba image.

ThinkPad T400 6474-C53 , Windows XP Pro OS
I have no ability to put the PC into standby "sleep" mode at all. Function then F4 does nothing, there is nothing listed under the power management options, and pressing the power buttom does nothing. Can anybody help with this?

  • Won't stay in fullscreen mode!!!!

darn it. just updated to 7.2 and now when i try to watch something with my TV as the second screen in fullscreen mode, every time i do something other than that (like try to use safari on the first screen) quicktime drops the playback size to a small window. very annoying. what happened?

no... i have quicktime pro, i use cmd-f to use fullscreen, have it set the second screen, but if QT isn't the foreground application, it resizes the screen.
in other words if QT is playing fullscreen and i cmd-tab to another app, it also resizes. or click on another app's window, QT resizes.
    same on both systems.

  • Won't stay in sleep mode, mouse freezes

In the past months, iMac has become like a toddler -- doesn't want to sleep.  Put it in sleep mode, and it does so for a few seconds, then it wakes again and the mouse cursor is frozen.  I have to unplug/plug the mouse back in TWICE (never once, always twice) and try again for sleep mode.  Sometimes that works, sometimes it doesn't.  After 2 go-arounds, I often just shut it down.  I have tried other USB ports and get the same results.  I would use the wireless mouse, to see if this is a software problem, but I put it in such a safe place, now I can't find it. LOL
    Any ideas?
