Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E540

The new laptop Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E540 I7-4712M 8GB, Windows 8.1, use it for a 2 week.
Laptop bad start (sometimes you have to press the start several times), not always wakes from slееp.
Today in Device manager there was a yellow triangle on the Intel(R) Management Engine Interface.
Properties:
On tab General - This device cannot start. (Code 10) STATUS_DEVICE_POWER_FAILURE
On tab Events - Device PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_8C3A&SUBSYS_502817AA&REV_04\3&e89b380&0&B0 was configured.
Driver Name: null
What can I do about it?

As per the query we understood that you are facing multiple issues on your ThinkPad Edge E540.
You can download Intel(R) Management Engine Interface directly or run ThinkVantage system update utility and update the entire required driver for your system.

No, they want swap the motherboard for free (I've also bough a 3 year additional warranty). I've to reinstall the Windows system to "proove" that it also not working correctly. And still not possible to destinguish between the 3 theoretical options listed below. Otherwise they will charge 380EUR + the price for the motherboard (guessing 200 EUR) which is not acceptable. Theoretically only the cause which are possible are:- Hardware problem
- Driver problem
- Windows OS problem I also uninstalled all graphic card drivers (Intel HD4600 and Nvidia GT740M driver in safe mode with Driver uninstaller). Rebooted. Afterwards with opened device manager to see the graphic card devices I was installing the latest driver package. Strange problem on ThinkPad Edge E540 with lenovo power manager utility

hi all
I bought a new laptop    the lenovo thinkpad edge e540 with win 7 64 pro os
and after the first update from the lenovo update utility
the power managmet tool icon on the taskbar is half down
so it is not normally and i try to   uninstall and install again the power manager tool
and after it   the problem not solovd and still show half down on the taskbar
i attach the picture of the problem
i will appriciate if someone can help me with this issue
and also  someone from lenovo company can take a look on this problem

How to turn of the display (ThinkPad Edge E540)

I bought a new Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E540. My Question is, how can I turn off the display? There is no FN-hotkey for it.
Or is it possible to change the functions of the FN-hotkeys because I don't even need two of them?

Thinkpad Edge E540 Loose LCD bezel

Hello, I recently bought a Lenovo Thinkpad Edge E540, I noticed a few days ago that the bezel of the LCD screen at the bottom was loose, here are some photos

It doesn’t matter much, however for your satisfaction you can remove and refit the bezel, for instruction on re-fixing the bezel please follow the HMM (Hardware Maintenance Manual) link below, and go to page # 106. It is just an issue with alignment and won’t effect to any other thing.

ThinkPad Edge e540 integrated camera only in grayscale/black and white

I got my ThinkPad a few days ago and I've finally gotten the camera to work. After I had finally fixed the camera by installing the proper drivers though, it came up with a new problem: the camera does not display color, nor does it let me enable anything to display colors. The "ColorEnable" option is grayed out when I access its settings through the ThinkVantage Communications Utility. I've tried modifing every single option to no avail. No matter what application uses the webcam, it's always in grayscale. Even if just the laptop itself is the only one using it, it's still in grayscale. It leads me to believe that it's a problem with the camera itself and not any one application.
I have not been able to find any solution at all no matter how hard I try to look. Any help would be appreciated. All my camera drivers are up to date as of today.

Actually, the way you've described the camera with illumination is exactly how mine reacts as well. There has to be a very good amount of light for there to be any color whatsoever.

Lenovo Thinkpad Edge S430 ticking noise

Hi all,
My Lenovo Thinkpad Edge S430 has started making some ticking noise coming from the left corner of the laptop. If any video is on sometimes the voice disappears for a few seconds after the intensified ticking. Slightly pressing down the speakers helps stopping the noise for a short while. Any idea what the issues could be and how I could solve them?

All I can say is that it's an error in the marketing material.
I'm 100% certain that this feature does not exist on any ThinkPad Edge system, including your S430. There is not any possibility to add this feature because the hardware that makes it possible does not exist on ThinkPad Edge. It's not a case of providing some new software or BIOS to enable the feature.
If this is a feature that you require, and you bought your S430 based on this faulty marketing material, I suggest that you call the sales support phone number in your country and ask them how they want to handle it. I'm very sorry for this trouble caused by wrong marketing material.

Black screen after suspend on a Lenovo Thinkpad Edge E525

Hi everyone!
I own a Lenovo Thinkpad Edge E525 which is running Arch. After waking up my laptop from suspend mode, the screen stays black and the laptop doesn't seem to respond to any input (even the SysReq keys don't seem to be working
I followed the instructions from the wiki (especially the laptop specific page and the pm-utils page), but it still doesn't work.
I'd be happy to provide more information if necessary.

I'm having this same problem on my Thinkpad T60. Both suspend-to- disk and -to-ram result in a system which does not respond. The crescent moon led indicator stays lit after resume. At first there's some disk activity and then nothing.
My system worked fine about a week ago, but after upgrading (to kernel 3.3.2-1 among other things), I haven't been able to suspend properly anymore. I have tried all sorts of fixes in the wikis and around the net, but nothing at all seems to help.
Has anybody else had suspend/resume problems after recent upgrades?
Edit: Also, after trying to resume, I can hear the fan beginning to rotate. Though the laptop seems to be unable to wake up, the fan is active. I also assume the CPU is under a heavy load as the laptop gets quite hot on on the left side.
Edit: Downgrading kernel does not help.

Ok, this is weird.
I normally don't have the module (snd-hda-intel) for my sound card loaded. As soon as I load it manually, at least suspend begins to work normally. Why is this?
Is there a way to tell the kernel not to touch the module when resuming from suspend? I have the module blacklisted.

Lenovo Enhanced Experience 8 and Lenovo ThinkPad Edge S430

My Lenovo ThinkPad Edge S430 is listed in the "supported W8" systems, http://shop.lenovo.com/gbweb/gb/en/learn/products/ee8/index.html
But what is "Lenovo Enhanced Experience 8"? Should be some software available? Should be something available? So far, I got my hands over some drivers (card reader, hotkey, active protection system) and little more. Should something else be installed in the notebook to improve it's performance?

Bios protection from infection with virus or bios recovery of Lenovo Thinkpad Edge e545

I have Lenovo Thinkpad Edge e545 laptop. Among downloads there are no bios images but only backup cd iso file. Does laptop bios somehow protected from beeing infected with virus when OS installed on laptop is infected? If not, is there a way to recover bios from usb flash? Or is there some other way to recover already infected bios without help of technical support center?

Actually there is no relationship between the Virus and the BIOS also the BIOS cannot be infected such as the windows . So if you have any debut that your machine has been attacked by a Virus, you can install any antivirus application to scan for this virus and to protect the machine from such attack

Just found your question as I am thinking of doing the same. Buying an Thinkpad Edge E145 without any OS from Germany and replacing the keyboard with one for my location.
With some searching I have been able to answer one of your questions. This is probably too late to help you, but it might help others is a similar situation.

I use ThinkPads in last 10 years for study and gaming (R60, SL510, Edge 520) and wish sell my Edge E520 replace it with new one due stuck with old Radeon 6630M drivers (I cannot use a new AMD drivers when I try I getting mostly BOSD errors and latest Official Lenovo driver is from 2012) second reason is that E520 fan cannot be accessed & cleaned on easy way.
In which month Lenovo mostly release new Edges, What is your option are Broadwell CPU + GeForce 840/940M in Edges worth to wait?
In future I try to avoid AMD GPU due poor drivers support.
I know that there is much better notebooks for gaming but I like ThinkPads

To support it the model you're buying should be equiped with the :
Intel® Dual Band Wireless-N 7260
Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260
Wireless network adapters and core i5/i7 cpu's . But careful, not all E540s come with the intel wireless card
Just check this and you're good to go.

White rectangular box in desktop screen of Thinkpad Edge E540

Hello,
My Lenovo Thinkpad E540 (Model: 20C6008QUS) shipped yesterday and during configuring it for the first time , I found a strange problem (and it was during the first few hours after unboxing). I started experiencing a weird white (or gray) rectangular box on the top-left corner of the desktop and I have no idea where it was originated from (snapshot attached).
The box doesn't show up at the startup but whenever I logon to the windows after sleep or hibernation this box pops up. This box is just blocking all the icons below it and it is very much annoying.
Can anyone please help me out by providing any kind of solution with it ?

I can't say I recall ever seeing that before, but my initial thought is that it is a dialog from an application that wants you to register, install an update or some other kind of interactive message but isn't painting properly.
You could try bringing up the Task Manager by pressing the Ctrl+Shift+Esc keys together, looking at the apps whicha are open, and closing them one-by-one until you find the culprit.
If that works to identify the program, perhaps you can update it manually.

Добрый день!Не могу найти на сайте специйикацию к ноутбуку. Помогите, пожалуйста.Интересует какой максимальный объем оперативной памяти поддерживает ноутбук? В различных интернет магазинах написано до 8. Случайно попал на сайт кингстон, там указано, что 4гб (2 планки по 2 гб). Где правда? В самый последний момент увидел, почти купил на 8гб. Если такое дело, то напрасно бы потратил деньги. И второй вопрос. Возможно ли заменить процессор на этом ноутбуке? На некоторых форумах прочитал, что проц припаян. Возможно ли отпаять, а главное подобрать другой проц, помощнее без каких либо доп. вмешательств в материнку(кроме процесса припаивания)?

Код модели NVY44RT - это некий маркетинговый код, а не код в формате Machine-Type-Model (MTM), по которому ноут идентифицируется на сайте Lenovo. Зачем был введен такой код для ряда моделей ноутов и стран - я сказать не могу, но путаницу он создает очень большую.
Реальный код модели Вашего ноута, MTM, скорее всего - 032844G или 254544G, для процессоров Intel и AMD, соответственно.
Проверяйте спецификацию на сайте поддержки, а не на сайтах магазинов, ямаркете и подобных агрегаторов.

Как видите, официально ноут поддерживает максимум 4 ГБ оперативной памяти. Но это может быть и не так. Проверяйте на ark.intel спецификации применяемых в ноуте процессоров (по их индексу). По крайней мере процессоры Intel поддерживают 8 ГБ, (AMD я не смотрел). Это значит, что если на уровне BIOS ноута нет запрета на установку планок по 4 ГБ (а его нет, смотрите документ ниже), ноут должен работать с 8 ГБ памяти.

Если мое предположение о MTM Вашего ноута верно, то в нем установлен процессор Intel ULV i3-380UM либо AMD Athlon II Neo Dual-Core K345, запаянный (см.позицию 4 в списке, "Systemboard assembly", это плата в сборе). Для замены процессора требуется специальное оборудование, т.н.паяльная станция. Теоретически, заменить процессор можно в СЦ. Если процессор будет из списка совместимых и того же производителя, то никаких дополнительных доработок не должно потребоваться.
