Lenovo Thinkpad Twist touchscreen issue

Does anybody have any expirience with setting up the touchscreen on the thinkpad twist? I assume that I am having  a kernel moduel issue because it does not show up in xinput (it did however show up in ubuntu as atmel maxtouch digitizer, and works without any issues). Any help would be gcreatly appreciated

Hi Lem0nade,
Thanks for your reply.  I've tried calibrating the device and setting the full windows touch support, as well as resetting the device to factory defaults and updating the drivers but the problem is still present.
I've inserted a file showing an example of the troubleshooting approach in case it's useful.  Starting a Metro paint application and then drawing vertical lines across the screen there's a line that just doesn't register the touch at all.  If I use the touchpad to draw in that area it works ok, also this behaviour is consistent across multiple applications and is the same after I reset the device, makeing me fairly sure it's a hardware issue with the touchscreen.
At the moment I've got my Twist being picked up as an RMA by the site I bought it from but I thought this informaiton could be useful for other people seeing problems with their touchscreens.

  • Many problems on Lenovo ThinkPad Twist

Hi! Yesterday I got my new Lenovo ThinkPad Twist 31,8 cm (12,5 Zoll) Convertible Ultrabook (Intel Core i5 3317U, 1,7GHz, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD, 24GB SSD, Intel HD 4000, Touchscreen, Win 8).
At first i was very impressed about the notebook but then I realized, that it has many issues!
    I have the following problems:
    - no sound - if i want to make the sound to 100% it decreases the volume down to 0% again! Like anyone who wants to joke me! If i press the + volume button on the bottom right of the touchscreen, it cannot even increase the volume because it gets stuck somehow. There's also a window at the top left of the touchscreen, which is always visible (volume control) and i cant close it!
    - the onscreen-keyboard doesnt work in all modes
    - mouse touchpad doesnt work, only clicking works but no mouse movement!
    - the touchscreen works until it has this "no sound" issue. Then I have to tap on everything 3 or more times to open it!
    - the windows button under the touchscreen also doesnt work the way it meant to be. Instead it makes the screen darker, then brighter again!?
I have installed all updates what this lenovo-tool wanted to install. It was like 1 GB of updates. I think it even got worse with all the updates...
The main issue may be the no-sound bug. If i want to make it louder it makes it back to 0% volume. Thats really annoying. I hope you can help me, because this would be a very nice laptop but not with so many issues...
    Pleeeaase help me!

    Hi there,
    I recently bought a Thinkpad Twist and I love it. 500GB hard-drive, 24BmSTA and Windows 8.
However, I did have the following problems
touchpad mouse wouldn't work at all - I downloaded an update from the Lenovo site and it is working now although I find it a bit too sensitive for my liking so I need to see if I can change the sensitivity
keyboard suddenly changes so that when I type some keys they behave like shortcuts. I can only rectify this by restarting the laptop - I haven't found a solution for this yet

  • Thinkpad Twist heating issues

So I've had my Twist for a few months now, and I've noticed that it gets kinda hot every once in a while. So I installed the Open Hardware Monitor to monitor its temperature. Are these normal/healthy temperatures?
Casual use (web browsing, word processing, watching movies) in "Power Saver" mode: 40s and 50s
Intensive tasks (Matlab, Mathematica, Photoshop, Visual Studio, various games) in "High Performance" mode: up to the 90s
Should I be concerned at all?

    Hi AmarD,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
I’m sorry to hear that your Lenovo ThinkPad Twist is overheating at times.
If your laptop feels hot and shows any of the problems below, chances are its overheating or getting there:
Fan constantly running and making loud whirring noises
Computer struggling to perform basic tasks like opening a new browser window
Mysterious error messages popping up in random programs
Lines on your laptop screen (a sign your video card is overheating)
System freezing or the dreaded BSOD (blue screen of death)
The laptop abruptly shuts down on its own
Optimal operating temperature is 50° Celsius (122° Fahrenheit) or below during normal operation of the device. 90° Celsius is an inacceptable temperature value even in case of high intensive tasks.
Use dust remover spray to clean out of the laptop's vents. Dust can accumulate in and block the laptop's fan vents Start using compatible cooling pads which will help in the flow of cool air into the underside vents of the laptop. Keep your working environment or computer room as comfortably cool as possible.
If the machine is still overheating, I strongly recommend you to contact our technical support for assistance.
Click here to open a link where you can select the country and get the exact contact support number. I’m sure they will be a great help.
    Best Regards,

  • !TRIED EVERYTHING! PLEASE HELP! Lenovo thinkpad twist super slow WIFI connect to home router

I love my twist i just wish my wifi would work at home!
It connects and works fine at public places
At home it takes forever to connect maybe have to try 5 times taking 5-7minutes and it will disconnect sometimes if computer goes black
I have : lenovo thinkpad twist s230u with windows 8
    I have a : Broadcom 802.11n Network Adapter
    I have a : Broadcom driver 6.30.59.26
Troubleshooting that i have already tried: adjusting wifi power settings, downloading lenovo driver
    PLEASE HELP

I would try plugging the laptop directly into your cable modem, thus by-passing the router, and check your connection speed.  Next, connect the router to the cable modem and plug the laptop directly into the router by cable. Compare your connection speeds.  If both work fine by cable, then I think your wifi on the home router isn't broadcasting/working.  You say the wifi connects at work/public, which leads me to believe it is not your laptop wifi card.  What is your wifi signal strength from your home network? work? public?

  • Lenovo thinkpad twist

i have been facing problems with touchscreen as all others ... but a little different ... when i get into tablet mode ... it weirdld start to zoom in and out every app and desktop ... and start to select and open things i dont need ... even the touchpad is worse in laptop mode .... then i searched ... everyone said its due to hdd ... ssd can solve this problem ... so when  i checked my computer management and disk management i find my 23 gb ssd fully empty .... what that means ??? how is it getting used ... nor my windows are installed on it nor its caching ... its empty ... ot m wrong ... plz help me guys

You can verify that the cache is working by running
    eccmd -info
from an Administrator-level command prompt. (Windows button --> type "cmd" --> right click on "Command Prompt" --> select "Run as Administrator" --> answer "Yes" to allowing it to make changes to computer). There are more details here: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=HT074404
The recommendation about SSD is only for running in an SSD only configuration. What can happen is that the computer can move around too much when used in Tablet mode, and this causes the Airbag Protection to enable and temporarily stop the HDD. With only SSD(s) in the system Airbag Protection can be safely disabled.

Since you are a Telephone engineer, dealing with cables and reading manual must be piece of cake for you. Luckily, Lenovo offers a fantastic manual that you follow each step of the way to diassemble every part of the laptop.

  • Thinkpad Twist s230u: Can no Longer Connect to the Internet

    Hello,
Several days ago my Lenovo Thinkpad Twist suddenly stopped connecting to the internet. I was at the cafe using my phone hotspot and everything was fine, but then when I got back home, it could not detect any wireless networks in my house. I thought it may have just been my wi-fi but my phone could connect to the wi-fi just fine. I tried plugging in my phone again for personal hotpot and it could detect my phone, but no longer connect to the internet (it'd say that it's connected, but no pages would load). I tried rebooting my computer, but the wireless networks still could not be found and my phone's hotspot could no longer help it connect to the internet. I tried a Malwarebytes Scan but that didn't detect anything, and my McAfee virus scanner is not gonna help me find anymore viruses (long story as to why I don't have a better virus protection).
Can't really install any updates since I can't connect to the internet at all...rebooted several times to no avail...
Any sort of help or ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thank you so much!
    Sincerely,
    Ingrid

I just started to have similar problem. I cannot connect to interent via ethernet or wifi. Both connections show I am connected, but cannot acces any web pages. It is like it is not connected. I would like to know how to restore back to when I bought it, 12/20/13, and then re-load the Windows 8 pro that is somewhere on the partition HD. Any help out there?????? All my other devices/laptops/computers work fine on the internet.

  • Thinkpad Twist S230u: Install clean Windows 8

    Hello Together,
I got a new Lenovo Thinkpad Twist S230u and want to install windows 8 without all preinstalled Software.
But i cannot find any Recovery Disc/Partition and there is no Registration Key for Windwos 8 in the Package....
So, how can I extract the clean Windwos 8 Image to take it on an USB Stick and how do i get the Windows 8 Key?
It used to be so easy....
    Thanks for your Help!

    Hi bigwig,
I'm not quite sure what you want to do, but if you are looking to do a clean install without the Lenovo pre-installed software, you are headed down the wrong path.
Here's how you make a copy of the recovery image to USB flash drive.  That can be used to restore your Twist to factory state.  Factory state includes the pre-installed software too.  There isn't a "naked" Win 8 image anywhere on the machine, as far as I know.  Only the full  Wind 8 + Lenovo recovery image.

  • Thinkpad Twist

    Hola!
    "RECOVERY
your pc needs to be repaired
A required device isn't connected or can't be accessed
    Error Code: 0xc0000185
You'll need to use the recovery tools on your installation media. If you don't have any installation media (like a disc or USB device), contact your system administrator or PC manufacturer"

    Gracias y Saludos,

  • ThinkPad Twist Storage

    Hi there!
This feels like a silly question, but one that I can't seem to answer on my own so I thought I'd ask here.
My company just bought a Lenovo ThinkPad Twist for me (I am a big Lenovo fan). I am just trying to make sense of the specs for storage. In my local drive system information it says I have a 456GB HDD (which I understand to be the hard disk drive), but on the fact sheet about the product, it says 128GB SSD (which I understand to be a solid state drive). I think this mean that I have both, that is, I have hybrid storage, right? And if I do have hybrid storage, is it accurate to assume that the solid state drive is used to store my system boot files and is unaccessible as usable storage space for me, right? I notice how quickly the system starts up and I know this is a benefit of SSDs. I like this!
I am only recently learning about solid state drives and I'm eager to know more. I woudl appreciate any information from anyone! Thanks!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

The most common storage options for a Twist are either:
    1) HDD coupled with a small mSATA SSD (around 24GB) for hybrid storage. In that configuration the SSD is used solely as a caching drive. The caching drive transparently caches data to speed up booting and system operation and is generally inaccessible to the user. If you have a caching drive, it generally shows up as Disk 1 in the Performance Tab of Taskmanager, and Disk 0 is normally the main drive.
    2) SSD without caching drive. Since most full-size SSDs are faster than the caching drive that is included on these models, there is no point in adding in a mSATA caching drive.
Your company could have gone with either configuration, or a custom configuration when ordering the machine. You may want to look at the PO to determine how your company decided to configure the machine.

  • ThinkPad Twist hard drive issues TWICE in 1.5 years!

    Hi,
I purchased a ThinkPad Twist in early December 2012.  After about 3 weeks, I experienced a hard drive crash.  I took the laptop to Staples where I first purchased it who told me the drive crashed.  I then contacted Lenovo and after months of trying to get the problem resolved, I finally did get a working hard drive and a new keyboard as that apparently was also defective.  My computer was working again (finally) in April of 2013.
Now, literally a year later, I have experienced yet another hard drive crash as well as the motherboard going out according to Staples tech team.  They were shocked to hear I had only had the laptop for a year and a half and that it was a Lenovo as apparently Lenovo is a trusted name in laptops.  Apparently, my unit was a "lemon" to have experienced so many severe issues in such a short amount of time according to the Staples tech department.
I have always carried it in a padded laptop case, have never dropped it, and have not abused it in any way, shape, or form.  Yet, I currently have a dead laptop that will take hundreds of dollars to get working again.  Even if I did pay that to get it working, I have so little trust in the thing after 2 hard drive failures in such a short amount of time that I would only use it for internet and use our older Dell laptop (that we've had for 6 years with NO issues mind you) for any important documents and files.
I am hoping there is something that Lenovo can do to help rectify this situation as I clearly have some defective parts or an entire defective Twist laptop on my hands.  Please help!  Help restore my faith in the Lenovo name for both their products and their business/service.
    Thank you!
    Jeremy and Stephanie Bradshaw

Did anyone respond to you? I am having a similar problem and have heard there is an issue with the connection to the hard drive, but I'm not inclined to get it fixed since I've had horrible experience with Lenovo customer support so far.

  • Touchscreen gesture unresponsive in Thinkpad Twist S230u

Have been using newly purchased S239u ThinkPad Twist for 4 days.  The right side touchscreen gesturing to invoke charms menu no longer works (however works if use mouse in corner).  Also, gesturing from the bottom does not work.  Gesturing from the left side and top of screen does operate.  Taking unit back to store where purchased.  Anyone else have a similar problem like this?

Mine is unresponsive too. Compltely 100% unresponsive. Even after doing a complete reset and wipe of the hard drive. I  already sent it in twice now and Lenovo did not fix anything. I'm ready to sue lenovo for being in breach of warranty.

  • Thinkpad Twist- Hard Drive issues

Hello all! I have a ThinkPad Twist that is still under warranty. A couple of weeks ago I got a 2100 HDD detection error . I am currently based in a rural part of Mexico for work (for a few months) and called into the US service center and they said I needed a new hard drive. As you can imagine, I was pretty frustrated to have the laptop die like this when it is way less than a year old. Anyway, the support center said that they could not mail the hard drive directly to Mexico but that they could mail it to a colleague in the US who was coming out here this past weekend. I got the hard drive yesterday and, as requested, called up the support center and they said that their systems have been down so they could not walk me through the reinstallation process, as they had said they could. The attendant directed me to a document I'd that would supposedly explain step by step how to change out the hard drive but I looked it up and it is for a different model all together...in the meantime, I went ahead and opened the new hard drive. From what I can tell, it is an SSD and my system has a HDD. They look completely different-Help! Is there a way to install the SSD or do I have no other option but to have them send another one to someone in the US and then get it brought out to me? Thanks in advance for your help. Oh, and the nearest authorized Lenovo service provider (3rd party) is about a 16 hour bus ride from here....

do you have picture of the two hdd that you have in your possession?

  • Issues restoring the HDD on Thinkpad Twist

I have a Thinkpad Twist which I would like to sell but I'm having a hard time restoring it.
When I put in the recovery USB and select "reset your PC", it says that the partition is too small.
I recently formated the HDD and the SSD, installed Win8 on SSD directly.
Is there a way to restore it to factory state?

take the hdd out and start the laptop without the hdd, if the LED light doesn't come on then you have a hardware problem.

  • Lenovo ThinkPad T430s - first impressions and issues

I bought ThinkPad T430s last week and just wanted to write down my thoughts, first impressions and the issues I ran into.
I am very pleased with the laptop in terms of hardware - solid and nice build quality, understated style and (relatively) light weight. The screen is sharp, sound is good enough for me (I am no audiophile) and I am getting used to the chiclet keyboard - which feels just a little springy.
But I am not pleased with the software. There is just too much bloatware on the system and some of it is hard to get rid of.
    SugarSync
    Evernote
    Lenovo MyCloud
    VeriSign VIP Access
    Intel AppUp
and the biggest offender - Lenovo SimpleTap -- You can't get rid of the SimpleTap without uninstalling the individual apps first.
It would be nice if the system showed a dialog box that said "Hey, here are some cool apps we highly recommend and you may want to look at", instead of pre-installing all these stupid apps.
On top of that I ran into the Windows updates failing issue.
So I ended up specnding 4+ hours just to get the system right.
Lenovo and Microsoft need to understand that they need to deliver an excellent and functional experience to users and not push any stupid system that they have come up with just to make an extra buck.
Look at Apple products. People love Apple products (I don't, but I do admire them) because of the simple and functional experience they provide.
In short install just what is necessary. You can let users know that there are other goof programs but leave it up to the users.

In fact that is exactly what I am going to do this weekend.
I am in the middle of posting another message asking for recommendations and experience on the absolute minimum I can get away with.
Right now I am thinking Windows 7, System Update and Power Manager.
In my case, I installed the following:
    Windows 7
    Intel chipset drivers
Intel WIFI driver (wifi driver only)
    Intel Ethernet driver
    Lenovo Power Management driver
    Lenovo Power Manager
Optimus video drivers for Intel HD 4000 and NVIDIA 5200M
RealTek audio driver - I think this also installed Dolby Home Theater v4
    Ricoh Media driver
    Lenovo Ultranav driver
    Webcam driver
I don't install much more than that.  I like to manually check the download areas for updates so I don't install Lenovo ThinkPad System Update.
