Lenovo ThinkPad X1 and Dell U2711 / HDMI?
Hello,
I plan to purchase the Dell U2711 monitor, it has a resolution of 2560 x 1440.
Will my Lenovo ThinkPad X1 handle this over the HDMI port?
Thanks in advance,
Simon
Not thru HDMI, but it will thru the mini-display port. You simply need a mini-display port to full size display port cable, something like this.

Resolution issue with macbook pro 13 (late 2013) and dell u2711
I have a Dell U2711 (native resolution 2560x1440) that I use without issue with a macbook pro late 2007 (running 10.10.x), various iMacs and Macbook air 2011 running 10.10. When I say without issue, the display works at its native resolution.
Last week we got a MacBook Pro 13in, late 2013 model.
If I connect this macbook via either thunderbolt connection to the u2711 using either DVI port on the dell, the maximum resolution that I can use is 1920x1080. I am using apple mini displayport to DVI adaptors (I have tried 2 different ones and 2 different DVI cables, with no improvement). Clicking option + scaled in sys prefs does not give the native resolution as an option.
However, I just discovered that if I use a DVI to HDMI adaptor and I connect the macbook to the display I get the full native resolution without issue (2560x1440).
I have zapped the pram, powered down the display etc etc etc and it made no difference.
I would prefer to use the mini DIsplayPort to DVI adaptor rather than HDMI, any suggestions appreciated.

Request - ICC profile for the combination - w520 and Dell u2711
Greetings,
Due to the lack of a colorimeter, I come to you with a humble request for few calibrated ICC profiles for the DELL u2711 and the quadro 2000m w520. Probably tftcentral's review might be a well guidance for setting up a ICC profile http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/dell_u2711.htm
Thanks in advance,hey utzutz,
could you explain on why you would like to get this ICC profiles ?

Weird Colour Saturation issues with MBA and Dell U2711
Hey all,
Just picked up a new Dell U2711 for use with my MBAir and my PC Workstation. I have the MBA hooked up to the monitor via the DVI imput with the official Apple Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter. What i'm experiencing is some bizzare colour saturation discrepancies. I've attached two screenshots to illustrate the issue...
For some reason, icons in the dock and in Launchpad are displaying WAY more saturated than their icons when displayed in a regular finder window.
Has anyone else seen anything like this? Any ideas where I could start looking to find a solution?
Thanks!Just updated the post with a new screenshot that better illustrates the problem. I origainly had a firefox issue as well, but that was fixed by changing the colour correction settings in that application.

Differences between Lenovo ThinkPad S430 and ThinkPad Edge S430
Is there a difference between Edge S430 and S430?
Because I've bought a Lenovo ThinkPad S430 w/o the Edge name! All I can say is that it's an error in the marketing material.
I'm 100% certain that this feature does not exist on any ThinkPad Edge system, including your S430. There is not any possibility to add this feature because the hardware that makes it possible does not exist on ThinkPad Edge. It's not a case of providing some new software or BIOS to enable the feature.
If this is a feature that you require, and you bought your S430 based on this faulty marketing material, I suggest that you call the sales support phone number in your country and ask them how they want to handle it. I'm very sorry for this trouble caused by wrong marketing material. -

About Lenovo Thinkpad W540 for Music Production at a Professional Level
Hey there! I just signed up to this blog in search for an answer to my quest. I've heard a lot of good things about Lenovo ThinkPad W540, and I would like to make sure that I am getting what I really need to stay up to date, in this everyday changing technological world, for a while before making a purchase.
So far, this is what I got in my wish list:
Intel Core i7-4700MQ Processor (6MB Cache, up to 3.40GHz)
Windows 7 Professional 64
15.6" FHD (1920 x 1080) LED Backlit Anti-Glare Display, Mobile Broadband Ready
W540 NVIDIA Quadro K1100M 2G
16GB PC3-12800 DDR3L (4 DIMM)
500GB Hard Disk Drive, 7200rpm
DVD Recordable
Intel Dual Band Wireless 7260AC with Bluetooth 4.0
1 Year Depot or Carry-in
I would like to know what are the major differences between the above items, which I have in my wish list, and the ones below:
1) Intel Core i7-4930MX Processor (8MB Cache, up to 3.90GHz)
2)15.5” 3K (2880 x 1620), IPS LED Backlit Anti-Glare Display, Mobile Broadband Ready, Color Sensor
3) W540 NVIDIA Quadro K2100M 2G
4) 32GB PC3-12800 DDR3L (4 DIMM)
5) I would like a 1TB hard drive but they don't come at 7200 rpm, i guess the one in my wish list works fine.
6) Do I need a more sophisticated Optical Drive from the DVD Recordable in my wish list?
I guess whay I am trying to investigate is if I can function in the music production world with a Thinkpad W 540 with the specs already in my wish list? And, what difference would it make updating this machine with the specs below. Your assistance and comments will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!Hi ColonellONeill, thank you for taking your time in attempt to solve my problems.
Temperatures varies, but it never reached to unbearably hot.
Shutdown warning: for the last couple of times, I did got the blue screen warning (that windows had problem and will restart after collecting the necessary information) on my Helix and hanged display on my external monitor. Otherwise, most of the time, there isn't warning at all.
I doubt if there is anything to do automatic windows update as I have scheduled it every morning at 3 'O' clock! Sometimes it works from weeks to couple of months without even noticing any of these technical problems but then when it starts, it stays for weeks; it just comes and goes - never been able to resolve the issues completely; even the technician.
(It just happend right now! and this time wihtout even warning, and Helix wasn't even running 30 minutes - temperature is normal, I can feel it's little warm.)
Currently I am using my Helix with Thinkpad USB 3 dock connected to external Monitor with wired keyboard and mouse connected back at the dock. -

I need to buy another usb, pcmcia or mini pci-e wireless card.
Can you recommend one that works well? Because I never work with wifi cards on linux.
sorry my poor english
EDIT 21/07/09: add more information (thinkwiki):

EDIT 22/10/09:
Finally came the expected driver, I think it's premature but it works perfectly.
Here the driver (r8192se_pci):
32bits: http://launchpadlibrarian.net/33927923/ … 009.tar.gz
64bits: http://launchpadlibrarian.net/34090326/ … bit.tar.gz
untar; make; make install; reboot and enjoy it
I test it with:
netcfg
standar commands:
ifconfig wlan0 up
iwlist wlan0 scan
iwconfig wlan0 essid MySsid
wpa_supplicant -B -Dwext -i wlan0 -c /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf
dhcpcd wlan0
The first time I compile the module, function correctly, but after scan for available networks I haven't any results.
Recompile and everything worked again
[b]I edit the wiki, pleased read it and help me because my English is a bit basic.
thanks

[SOLVED] Bumblebee: Failed to initialize GPU with Lenovo ThinkPad W530
SOLVED: See post #20
After years, I decided to come back to the wonderful distro, Arch and back to the forums. Yay!
However, I installed Arch to my new laptop - Lenovo ThinkPad W530 and it uses NVIDIA Quadro K1000M alongside Intel graphics with Optimus technology. Arch is running fine, but I cannot run applications through optirun and I get:
[exitium@rambutan ~]$ optirun -vv nvidia-settings

As seen, it says "Failed to initialize the NVIDIA GPU". I have tried different solutions found from these forums and several other places but none of them have worked - the problem remains same. Does anyone have idea how I could fix this? I read somewhere else that there could be issues with newest nvidia drivers - is this possible?

Thinkpad W510 and W530 accessories compatibility
Hello all,
From a previous post, I found that accessories such as the power adapter and docking station will not work between the Lenovo Thinkpad W510 and W540 models. Instead, are they compatible between a W510 and W530 and if not, how about a W510 and W520?
Solved!
Go to Solution.No. W530 and W520 use the same docks and AC adapters; W510 uses different ones. All 3 have the same shape of battery, but the W530 needs one with an additional chip. A W530 battery will work in any of them. Nothing fits a W540. The only difference in the dock on the T510 (vs. T520, T530) is the AC jack is keyed for the 170W adapter.

Lenovo ThinkPad s431 SSD replacement
Hi, guys! I want to buy Lenovo ThinkPad s431, and I have a question.
Can I change 24GB SSD disk with larger disk (for example 128 or 256 GB)?
Is it necessary to replace regular HDD for this or the laptop has a mSata or 2.5 slot on motherboard?
Thanks!I guess I wont be buying Lenovo again

Lenovo ThinkPad R61 wont power on?
Hi, just so you know i'm new to these forums
Anway.. I have a Lenovo ThinkPad R61, and it wont turn on.
When the charger is connected, the Orange light flashes and the Green light stays on - it wont turn on by the button.
When the battery is out, and the charger is connected the green light stays on - it still wont turn on.
And without the charger it does nothing.
I have tried holding down the power button for 30 seconds with the charger and battery out, and it still does nothing.

Stripes on screen Lenovo Thinkpad x121e
Hi,
I had sometimes horiznotal stripes on screen Lenovo Thinkpad x121e and sent it to service. Here is video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tpTtHWkC1jI
They did tests and said that everything is OK,stripes didn´t discover.Few days ago,one day I see stripes on screen again.Where is problem?hey LTP80,
do you have any devices near it such as a radio player, cellphone, etc that could cause an interference ?
use that unit at a different location and see if the stripes appear. i'm guessing something in the original location is causing the stripe to appear.
that is why when the service center looked into the issue, they didnt find any.

Thinkpad W510 and W540 accessories compatibility
Hello all,
I have a Lenovo Thinkpad W510 and I am looking to upgrade to a W540. For my current W510 I have a docking station and two power adapters. Will they all still work on a W540?
Solved!
Go to Solution.Hello.
No, neither the dock nor the power supplies will work. The xx40 series of ThinkPads use the new rectangle tip power jacks instead of the barrel shaped ones, thus requiring new models of both.
Cheers!

Black Screen Problem Lenovo ThinkPad X131e
I own a Lenovo ThinkPad X131e and recently the screen has become non-functional. The screen still lights up and everything else still works perfectly fine when I use an external monitor.
The screen itself is not cracked and does not appear to be damaged, and if possible I don't want to have to buy a new screen. The problem is nothing is displayed onto the screen.
The problem appears to be with left side where the screen is attached to the computer, however I took a little peak inside and the wire attaching the screen looks perfectly fine, only visible problem is the actual hinge (or whatever you want to call it) has snapped..
Obviously this would cause minor nuisenses such as the screen falling forward but I don't see how this could effect the display on the screen.
Any ideas on how to fix this?Hi Sexylicka,
Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
I’m really sorry to hear that display in your Lenovo Thinkpad X131e is not functioning properly.
Have u tried to switch between computer display and external display using the FN+F7 combination?
Do a power drain! Unplug the power cable, remove the battery and then hold the power button for 30 to 60 seconds. Then reattach the power and attempt a boot.
Also, try updating your display drivers and see if it works.
Below is the link to enter downloads page and install the display driver.

Please click on "QUICK PATH”, enter X131e and select the exact model depending on the MTM number of your device.
If all the above said attempts fail, it could be an issue with the hardware (Possibly LCD screen, an inverter, cable or LCD back-light). I strongly suggest you to contact our technical support for assistance.
Click hereto open a link where you can select the country and get the exact contact support number. I’m sure they will be a great help.
