Lenovo U430 touch screen screen crack in just 6 months?

Hi! I brought my lenovo 6 months ago and my experience was very bad....
After i tink around 2 months. Whenever i open up my laptop, there is like a crack sound. I couldnt see anything visable until yesterday when the bottom of the screen just pop out.
I went to the service center and was told this is not covered in the warrenty and he was sure I had drop it before to have such a problem.
However I AM 100% SURE i have not drop my laptop before. My previous 2 computer could use for 5 and 4 years respectively but this lenovo brand computer that i tried is a disappointment.
I was told the estimated cost is around $300 if i would have to repair it and it would take 1 month to fully fix it.
I am a student. I have many upcoming projects to finish. Do you think i will have 1 month to fix this problem. And that $300 is just too much.
I am pretty sure it is the quality of the laptop since i have NEVER drop it before. Although i close and open the laptop many times due to the need to travel between school and home almost everyday, isit that what a laptop is for to be portable?
Please find out for me what can I do with this problem or are there any cheaper alternative out there since i am not that rich to just throw away my money for this.

I need to gather several customer-provided photos of hinge mount failures on the U430 Touch model.
If you could, it would really help me if several people could provide photos. (Please resize photos to make them smaller before posting.)
Thank you for your help,

• U430 Touch - Dead screen?

Hello,
My U430's screen recently stopped working, and I would like some advice on what to do to fix it. The laptop works fine otherwise, only the monitor doesn't work.
Here's what I've tried so far and what I've found out:
Powering the laptop off and on again - no change
Connecting the laptop to another monitor via HDMI - the laptop is fully functional, and the computer does not recognize the dead screen, only the other monitor
I also noticed crackling sounds when I opened my laptop previously, and the hinge appears to be offset. This leads me to believe that the cable connecting the screen to the laptop got caught and/or cut by the hinge - especially with the rest of the laptop working properly. Is there a fix I can perform manually, or do I need to send the laptop in for service?
EDIT: This happened today (13 February) during normal use of the laptop (sitting on a desk) after 5-10 minutes of normal use. The screen went black without any warning, and this was the first indication of any issues with the screen - it had worked perfectly until this point.
Solved!
Go to Solution.

Lenovo has concluded an investigation into reports of hinge mount failures on U430 Touch and U530 Touch laptops. If the laptop has not been dropped or otherwise damaged, and is under warranty, please contact Lenovo Service for support.

• U430 Touch Screen Hinge

I got the Lenovo U430 Touch in late August and have noticed that the screen hinge wasn't very sturdy but it was still working fine. But today the hinge is broken and I can't close the screen properly without adjusting it. I didn't drop it or damage it and I looked it up and saw that other people were having similar issues and saying it was a production failure. Is there anyway I can get a replacement or do I have to send it in for repairs? I'm in college and I'll be needing it for a couple more weeks so I can't send it in for repairs yet. And is the $99 fee not covered by the warranty? I called Lenovo support and they said they can't look at my laptop until I pay the fee. I feel like the quality of Lenovo has declined recently. Any help would be appreciated.

This just happened to me this morning! For those of you that were working with it broken for a while...did the break impede your daily use in any way beyond the inconvenience of the hinge function? I'm teaching in Romania right now (ironically, I bought this model specifically so it would be easier to travel with) and won't be back home in the U.S. for over a month so I can't exactly send it to be fixed right away. Am I going to damage it further if I keep using it? Edit: I'm also out of warranty, AND I noticed a month or two ago that my screen stop auto-rotating whenever I tried to flip it (which wasn't often at all, so I still don't know why my hinges would break so suddenly). Am I going to end up paying for these repairs?

• Lenovo laptop u430 Touch - strange UEFI boot problem

Hello!! I'm Javier from Argentina. I'm having a strange boot problem with my Lenovo u430 Touch and Windows 8.1 x64 configured in UEFI.
When I power on o restart the laptop It gets stuck at lenovo logo screen and i have to press a key from the keyboard to continue booting on Windows 8.1 x64. This is really annoying.
No hdd activity.Trying to solve the problem I reset bios to default settings, I updated to last bios available and restored Windows 8.1 with OKR but i have no luck.
To solve this problem I configured the laptop to use legacy support, but I would that someone can help me to use again my laptop with UEFI bios settings.
Thanks, I will appreciate your help.Javier

• U430 Touch: Energy Manager kills Bluetooth

As soon as I install the Energy Manager, Bluetooth just fails to start. Bluetooth shows up in the Device Manager, but cannot be startet.
Tested with (latest) original Lenovo Drivers and Intel's Drivers.
Any Ideas? I need Bluetooth for my external Mouse.

I also installed the new version of the energy manager but it had not solved my bleutooth issue completly.
I solved the bleutooth challenge on the "Lenovo U430 touch" running Windows 8.1
by reinstalling the "Intel(R) Wireless Bluetooth(R) 4.0 + HS-adapter".
With this driver "gawy08ww"  for Windows 8.1 from the lenovo website, WARNING  this driver is said (by lenovo)
not intended for the "Lenovo U430 touch" and therefore be sure to make a system restore point before taking any further actions. Also be aware I will not provide any further assistance and that following the installation steps in this "forum post" is completly at your own risk.
1) Make a complete system restore point ,to be assured that should something go wrong you can revert your system to a previous state.
2)Turn off Bluetooth by opening the charm bar on the right of the screen, then click "Settings"
then click "Change pc settings", and click on tab "PC and devices.
Now click on tab "Bluetooth" where you will find a "On OFF" slide. put this in the off position.
3) Now install the driver for Intel(R) Wireless Bluetooth(R) 4.0 + HS-adapter
by clicking on  "gawy08ww.exe" and follow the steps of the installer.
4) Reboot after installation
Good luck!

• U430 Touch and external monitors

Hi,
I am an absolute computer novice.
I have a new Lenovo U430 Touch laptop. I use it for traveling for work, but when at the office I would like to have bigger external monitors (preferrably 2).
What would be the best way to connect 2 external monitors to the U430 touch?
Thank you!

All I can think of is this if you want more than 1 monitor connected:
HDMI to 2 HDMI

Then 2 HDMI to 2 DVI
[img]http://img.misco.eu/Resources/images/Modules/InformationBlocks/1210/SRH/SRH-2/202509-startech-hdmi-d...
It's messy but I can't think of anything else that would work.

• Ive cracked my ipod touch 4g screen does my waranty cover accidental damage for cracked screens and if it does do i just take it into an apple store for repair?

ive cracked my ipod touch 4g screen does my waranty cover accidental damage for cracked screens and if it does do i just take it into an apple store for repair?

The warranty does not cover accedental damage like a broken screen.  However, some time the Genius at the Genius Bar of an Apple store will replace the iPod at not cost.  Make an appointment at the Genius Bar and ask. If not under warranty, Apple will exchange yours for:

• U430 Touch Screen not working on Ideapad

I just bought a new IdeaPad U430 laptop a few days ago and I love it. However, the touch screen doesnt work. I've looked through the forums and have tried a lot of things and none of it has helped so far. Using the f6 key on the laptop freezes the mouse but the touch screen doesnt seem to recognize my finger. Please help! Like I said, I love everything else about this laptop and I really dont want to return it.

hi graceella,
Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.
Ideally, the OS automatically identifies if you have unit with a Touchscreen or not. To check, look under Control Panel (large icon view) > System (see images below).
Non-Touchscreen:
- Link to picture
- Link to picture
Touchscreen:
- Link to picture
If the machine is showing No Pen and Touch Input:
1. The OS is not identifying the screen as Touch capable. To isolate, perform a System Recovery (via the OneKey Recovery button) to check if the issue is on the OS level (ensure you backup important files first).
If the machine is showing Limited Touch Support:
1. Recalibrate or Reset the touchscreen
2. Reconfigure the Touchscreen
If same problem,
3.  Press the Windows key‌ +R, type devmgmt.msc and press Enter.
4. On the device manager, navigate to Human Interface Devices and uninstall anything that says HID-compliant device. When finished, reboot the system and observe.
5. After the reboot, press Windows key‌ +R, type mspaint and press Enter. On mspaint, try to touch the screen and observe if the touchscreen capability is working.
     - Link to picture
If the above steps doesn't resolve the issue, I recommend you contact Lenovo and report the problem (or the place of purchase if it's still possible to exchange the unit).
Regards

• U430 Touch Screen Hinge Issue

Hi,
I have U430 Touch Screen Hinge issue, but lenovo service agents are not responding even if I give them the reference of below forum. Can you please help me resolve this issue as the laptop is under warranty (bought on december 2014)and it was not damaged. It was used last night and then just closed and kept on the bed. When I returned and tried opening it, I had this hinge issue. Please help me get this issue resolve at once.

Hi, This is the third time I called them but they are persistent that it is not cover under warranty for U430T. I do understand that if it is an accidental damage then it will not be covered. But my point is, from my end, there was no damage on the laptop and simply closed it and tried opening it after a while caused it. Furthermore refering to the post link, it is mentioned by Amy Tuper that if it is under warranty and cause is not by damage contact support. It is also mentioned that Lenovo launched an investigation in which it was concluded that there was mount failure on this model. So, my question is, isn't there a possibility that this defect could have been the mount failure issue ? Last call, they state that it is just for U530T even when the post says it is for both U430T and U530T. People on the same post have posted that they got it repaired by Lenovo for free. I am not sure what to believe, the post posted by Lenovo or the support service ? Can you please escalate the issue as it is hampering my day to day work. Awaiting reply from your end.

• Keyboard Marks on Laptop Screen, Do I Need a Cover for my U430 Touch?

I was online recently and noticed some ultrabook users talking about how having their ultrabook in a bag with a lot of other things had pressed the keyboard of it against the screen, creating stain marks. I'm a bit concerned this might happen with my U430 Touch as I will be keeping textbooks in with it, however, they will be behind it, but will be seperated by a thin layer of the bag. Has anyone heard of this happening and should I invest in a keyboard cover sheet in order to prevent this?
Thanks in advance!
PS: I love the U430 Touch, GO LENOVO!!!

Hi DesertFox899,
Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
As per the issue you have provided if the laptop is pressurized in the bag and as it is a touch screen model there might be chances of keyboard marks, I would suggest you to use a keyboard protection to avoid the further damages.
Do post us back for further queries.

• Ipod Touch 4G Screen Cracked

My Ipod Touch 4G screen has cracked. I got it as a Christmas gift  in 2010. Will Apple replace the screen? And how much will it cost?

mabri5 wrote:
If you're garanty is still good, you just need to send your Ipod Touch to Apple or bring it to the store. Useally, Apple gives you a replacement for free. But if you're garanty is expired, i don't know. Probably, you'll need to pay to repair your Ipod Touch.
Hope it helps.
There might some cases, in which Apple did that, but the fact remains:
Apple's Limited Warranty for iPod excludes coverage for damage resulting from accident, liquid damage, disassembly, unauthorized service and unauthorized modifications. Please review the warranty for further details. When a service is not covered under the warranty, Apple will return your original iPod to you without providing service, and may hold you responsible for shipping costs, plus any applicable sales tax.
An iPod that is ineligible for warranty service may be eligible for Out-of-Warranty (OOW) Service. For example, an iPod that has failed due to damage or liquid damage is ineligible for warranty service but eligible for OOW service. However, certain damage is ineligible for OOW service, including catastrophic damage, such as the device separating into multiple pieces, and inoperability caused by unauthorized modifications. Please see Apple's Repair Terms And Conditions for further details.

Thank you for you fast response..
Here's what i did..
1..  powered on / off the device multiple times without any luck
2.. plugged my externeal monitor to the hdmi port... external monitor worked perfectly so i followed your advice...
however the drivers i had installed were newer than the ones provided by the lenovo download site.. but i still
"downgraded" the drivers to the ones you provided in your link.. rebooted. no luck ..  updated them to the newes
ones found on windows update... rebooted.. no luck ..  at this point i was about to give up..
3.. opened up the laptop and unplugged/ plugged the screen connector and turning on the laptop.. no luck..
4.. unplugged / plugged the bios battery on the mother board.. no luck
5.. unplugged / plugged the laptop battery connector and the bios battery ... no luck
6.. unplugged the hard drive and booting up the laptop without it... no luck so i plugged it back in
7.. remove the memory stick and booting up the laptop without it .. screen wouldnt even light up (power button shows it was on.. and the keyboard light went on and off like it does when it boots up.. -- something for a change!!
8.. reinstalled the memory stick and booting up the laptop.. still the same thing.. white screen followed by red.. green.. blue.. no luck
9.. i didnt have a direct replacement of the PC3L memory stick but i did have a DDR3 PC3 memory stick in another laptop..  some google search and found that as long as theyre both DDR3 PC3 they should be compatible .. so .. i  replaced the memory stick.. booted up the laptop.. screen wouldnt even light up ..
10.. replaced the memory with the original stick.. before quiting i decided to give it another try before plugging in the hard drive...  and ...  IT WORKED..  however since the hard drive was unplugged it went to the no booting device and bios screen..
11... powered off the laptop... plugged in the hard drive...  (started praying) .. turned it on.. and it worked...
12... powered it off.. screwed the back cover on ..  powered it back on...  and its working fine so far.. played some video.. rebooted a couple times without any issues..
i do not know if there whas a "current state" flag or data saved on the ram or if it was caused by the UEFI system..
but i guess after replacing the memory stick it cleared up or something that when i replaced it back i booted up from scratch refreshing the devices or i have no idea.. but it works now ..
hope this helps someone in the future.. .. again thank you for your time!!

No because it was physical damage
