Lenovo W500 8Gb RAM recognize only 4G

Hi
I have a Lenovo W500 type: 4061-2ZG running a 64 bit Windows 7OS on it. I have 2X4G ram memory from Kingston “KTL-TP1066/4G”. The problem is my machine recognizes only 4G instead of 8G that I have installed.
Thankful for any help!

One quick test I did on my W700 (I have 2-2GB sticks)
Remove one stick - see if the system sees it
If yes, then put that stick in the other slot, see if the system sees it. If yes then all is OK if no then the slot where you cannot see the memory is bad.

  • Upgraded to 2x 8gb ram and registered 12gb only on my envy ultrbook 4

Just change the old 4gb ram with 2x of 8gb ram and only 12 gb ram registered.

    Manual says this:
Supports up to 16384-GB of system RAM
    Manual
It is likely an issue of compatibility. Please provide whatever identification by part number that is on the old modules and the new ones and we can try to track it down.

  • Computer recognizes 8GB of ram, but only uses 30% of it?

    Windows 7 Ultimate x64

    ATI radeon 5770
    P5QPL-AM ASUS motherboard
    OCZ 8GB (2x 4GB) Platinum series RAM. pc2-6400 DDR2, 240 pin, non ecc, unbuffered
I have installed 8GB ram into my computer. Both my BIOS and system properties state I can use all 8GB of it. However- even when I put my computer under huge strain, I've never seen it go higher that 30-31%. It idles on about %20, so that means when I put strain on it, it only ever goes up by %10! I have not set a limit in msconfig either.
It's frustrating me why my computer isn't using all my ram. If anybody has any suggestions, let me know!
Here's an example: I open photoshop with a huge canvas (A0), and went crazy with a large brush. I've allowed PS to use %75 of my memory. PS lags heavily, yet my ram will not budge higher than 30-31%. Here is a screenshot of it. The ram is the steady blue line.
I would be extremely thankful if anybody could share any thoughts/information. Thanks

Okay, now that we've established that Photoshop is using all the RAM you've given it (which can be a lot higher on an 8 GB Windows 7 system, by the way; as much as 90%+), let's discuss the root problem you're having:
    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
    Mistle22 wrote:
...I open photoshop with a huge canvas (A0), and went crazy with a large brush...
...it would stop lagging and run smoothly...
... my Photoshop lag problem ... still persists and makes it impossible for me to work on A1 and (rarely) bigger canvases.
You've been vaguely referring to a "lag" problem...
Reading between the lines, I believe what you're saying is that if you paint on a large canvas with a large brush, you're experiencing some delays and non-interactive activity.  But no one here is a mind reader, nor are we sitting with you seeing what you're seeing.
Please take the time to specifically answer each of these questions:
Exactly what version of Photoshop are you running?
How many pixels in your "A0", and what is the bit depth?
What size brush (in pixels), and how hard (in %)?
    What is the brush Spacing?
Is it one of the fancy new brushes?
Are you painting with a tablet or mouse?
How far behind does Photoshop get (a fraction of a second? seconds?)?
Do you see the same performance issue with OpenGL enabled or disabled in Edit - Preferences - Performance.
Have you updated your video driver to ATI's latest 11.2 release from the AMD web site?
A little more detail would help us help you.
FYI, I just created an A0 sized RGB image at 150 ppi (7020 x 4965 pixels), 8 bit depth, and painted perfectly interactively on it with a 500 pixel round brush with 1% hardness and 25% Spacing.  However, there is a visible lag of up to about 1/2 second if I increase the brush size to 2500 pixels.  This is on a VERY powerful workstation with ATI 5670 card.

  • B540p Only recognising 8GB RAM (12GB installed)

I've just got my B540p back from lenovo repair, and not it only shows 8GB RAM installed instead of 12GB.
It had the Motherboard replaced under warrenty
it shipped with 12GB, and 12GB is still installed, i've tried each 4GB module individually in each of the 4 slots and they all work fine in each slot, so the ram is not faulty nor are the slots.
The BIOS shows only 8GB, as well as windows.
i really dont want to have to send this back again, i had to send it back last time and i'd only just bought it!
can someone from lenovo please let me know if this is fixable perhaps by BIOS update or something?

    okay this is bizarre.
I got the B540p back this week, and first thing I checked was that 12gb was recognised by both BIOS and windows.
    it was.
however, after using it for a while, using Linux and clover bootloaders, it seems to have reverted back to 8gb again.
but, if I replace the 3x4GB modules with 1x4GB and 1x8GB, it goes back to 12GB. if I use 2x8GB modules it goes to 16gb.
then I tried just 2x4GB modules in the same bank, and it only sees 4GB.
so it seems that there are 4 SODIMM slots, but I can only use 1 on each side at at time.
there must be some confirm loaded at the factory to make it see 3/4 slots at the same time (quad channel?) but this feature is being reverted back.
for now i'll just have to buy an 8GB SODIMM (I borrowed one for the test) but i'd really like to know what is actually happening and why. clearly the board is not 'faulty'.
for reference, the unit shipped with 3x4GB modules.
also, why is one SODIMM slot white? this one was not populated.

I've learned  by reading other topics that I can't upgrade my graphics card on my Macbook Pro because it's soldered into the motherboard or somthing like that, but please tell me if there is any way to get more video ram by chaning some setting or upgrading something else. I'd also like to know why I only have 256MB of VRAM when I have 8GB of RAM, since I have 8GB of RAM I thought I was supposed to have 560mb of VRAM...
    So the two questions are...
Is there any way to upgrade my VRAM, so that I can play games on steam?
Why do I only have 256MB VRAM when I have 8GB total RAM?

The only two items that a user can change on a MBP are the RAM and HDD (Retinas not included).  You have what the unit came with and the only way you will be able to change that is to purchase a MBP with superior graphics
If you are very much into gaming, the I suggest A PC.  They are far superior for that type of application to a MBP.

  • Server recognizes only half of RAM

Greetings, we have 8 HP servers Proliant DL 380 G5 with Bios p56 2011.02.05 version (the latest one, as I understand). Now, all servers have 4 1-GB FBDIMMS, which work fine.
Recently we decided to upgrade and purchased memory KTH-XW667LP/8G (according to manufacturer, it is equivalent of 466440-B21 HP/COMPAQ and is fully compatible with this model). I installed two 8GB FBDIMMS in one of the servers, but he sees only half of memory. Instead of 16 Gb it recognizes only 8Gb.
    Now, I tried several vaiants:
    1. All 4 1-Gb FBDimms (the old one) are placed in banks 1A and 3A, 2C and 4C. The 8Gb FBDIMMS are placed in banks 5B and 7B (according to the guide, this should be fine). The server shows 12 Gb (in BIOS and in RHEL). I.e. it recognizes fully the old memory, but not the new one.
    2. The old memory is completely removed for experimental purposes. The 8Gb FBDIMMS are placed in banks 1A and 3 A. The server shows 8 Gb only.
Now, I tried it on three servers with various 8GB FBDIMMS (we bought 10 packs) to make sure, that this is not caused by server damage or memory damage. Nothing helps, the result is the same. I guess, the problem is not in servers and not in memory. There are no BIOS updates that I can install (we have the most recent version). So, what could cause this problem? Maybe I need to switch something inside the server in order to recognize memory? Maybe this is a memory redundancy mechanizm, that can be turned off or what?
    This question was solved.

  • Ae cs4 limited to recognize only 3gb of ram?

i have ae cs4 instaled on a 32bits win vista with 8gb ram... but my ae only show recognizing 3gb of it. any one know this?

Elaine, your answer includes some items that are factually incorrect or misleading.
    > After Effects is limited to a theoretical maximum of 3GB of RAM per core.
No. The theoretical maximum is 4GB per core.
"The operating system imposes certain limits on the amount of memory that an application can use. After Effects on the Mac OS X operating system can use up to 3.5 GB of RAM, although only about 3 GB is actually available to the foreground application, because Mac OS X uses approximately 500 MB to load the user interface libraries. After Effects on 32-bit Windows operating systems can use up to 3 GB of RAM; however, to use more than 2 GB in After Effects, you must configure Windows XP or Windows Vista appropriately.... After Effects on 64-bit Windows operating systems can use up to 4 GB of RAM with no special configuration."
    (See "Memory usage and storage".)
Your use of the term "RAM cache" is also misleading. Whether you have Render Multiple Frames Simultaneously on or not, the foreground process stores frames for RAM preview in a RAM cache. There is not a separate "RAM cache" for each of the background processes.
Also, you tell this person to change their RAM cache setting to a certain percentage. The original poster is using After Effects CS4. Only After Effects CS3 and earlier have the RAM cache exposed s a percentage.
    > If you have a machine with multiple processing cores and a 64-bit OS
you can enable Multiprocessing in After Effects's preferences.
The Render Multiple Frames Simultaneously feature is not dependent on a 64-bit operating system. Yes, it works much better on a 64-bit operating system, but you can see performace gains with only two processors on a 32-bit operating system.

  • Lenovo G505s A10-5750M 8GB Ram - graphics card?

  • Qosmio X300-14N - Vista 64bit recognize only 1789MB of RAM

    Hello,
I need some help with my Qosmio x300-14N.
I'm using a vista 64 bit system and the OS only see 1789MB of ram.
    I have 2x2gb memory module.
    Please give me a solution!

    Hi
How did you check this in Vista?
How much RAM is recognized in BIOS?
The notebook was equipped with 2 x 2GB RAM and therefore the hardware should be 4GB RAM capable.
The software (Vista 64bit) should recognize the full memory since 64bit OS has no 32bit limitation which would recognize only 3.2GB
In my opinion there could be something wrong with one of the RAM module this would explain why only one memory module has been recognized.

  • Brand New Lenovo Y5070 (I7 4270HQ/8GB RAM/Geforce 960M 4GB) - All Freeze, Sound Continue!

Hello Support, Last evening I bought this high-end model of Y5070 in Chiang Mai as I spend a month here now:(I7 4270HQ/8GB RAM/Geforce 960M 4GB) I am Microsoft Windows 10 Insider Edition User and while it works fine for most I've this strange issue. I've installed today fresh Windows 10 build 10130 (latest build), some drivers were missing so I used Lenovo drivers CD to install the win 8.1 drivers (Microsoft suggest to use Win 8.1 drivers on Win 10). All works good besides, it has random freeze, everything freeze, but youtube/music keep singing and it will stay like this until i click POWER button on the laptop then after a minute it goes sleep and when it wakes up all fine again. I did installed 100% fresh win 10 setup.  If this issue is due to Win 10 I can go and install win 7 or 8.1. But it sounds not very normal to me since i dont see other win 10 users having this issue. Please assist me asap as long as I am here in Thailand/Chiang Mai and still can go to store for replacement if needed. Thank you so muchRoman

when the screen freezes and the audio is still playing i would look at the gfx card drivers

use driver sweeper to remove the old drivers then start with the top one and test each one and see if any improve or fix it

  • The reason why ONLY the 17'' MBP and the 15'' 2.66 support 8GB RAM

Hi, I think I know why Apple is able to offer 8gb ram support on the revised 2.66 MBP and not on the 2.53 or 2.4 MBP.
    Take a look at this:
    15'' 2.4-2,53 NVDA Chipset
    http://s1.guide-images.ifixit.com/igi/oEmmaxSOKDDvZfZh.large
    17'' NVDA Chipset
    http://s1.guide-images.ifixit.com/igi/SSLSgODWYbiIuTLL.large
There are TWO different revisions. The first is B2 and the latter is B3.
I think that the former does not support 8GB of RAM and the latter does. That explains why the 17'' has support and now the NEWs 15'' also have, Apple gave the 15'' not only a speed bump but also the newer revision of the chipset!

It is no longer possible to navigate to the 8GB page, but the direct link is still working:
    http://store.apple.com/us/memorymodel/ME15_2_66MBP
I called the Apple Store (1-800...) and was told that the max is still 4GB. Then I read the direct URL out to the sales rep and he was surprised to see the page. He put me on hold and when he returned he said he'd spoken to a sales engineer who said that it was untested and unsupported, but that this did not mean it would not work.
I'm not actually interested in buying 8GB of RAM right now, but I would like to have some confidence that if I buy a MBP now, that I will be able to upgrade later when memory prices come down.
My guess is that Mac OS X 10.5.7 will be released soon and at that point the specs will be updated to max 8GB supported.
    Fingers crossed!

  • Installed 8GB Ram into Macbook Pro, System Report says it only has 2GB RAM

I decided to upgrade my 13.3 inch MacBook Pro from 4GB Ram to 8GB Ram.
I purchased two Crucial 4GB Ram from two different dealers on Amazon and installed them myself.
I turned my MacBook on and now it says that only one slot is being used and that it is a 2GB.
I have a feeling that either one of the Ram slots has failed, however it still puzzles me that it says that 2GB of RAM is installed? Is there any way of refreshing the 'About This Mac' or is there anything to make the Mac recogise this problem?
    Thanks in advance

open the mac back up and make sure both ram modules are seated properly.  It takes a little hard push to get them seated and you will hear a click/snap when they are seated.  To determine if a ram slot has failed, simply put back in the old ram, and if both slots are recognized, the problem is with the new ram.

    What RAM did you buy?
Try reseating the modules, they need to be pushed firmly into the slots before tilting them down into the clips.

  • P55 GD 80 - only sees 4GB of 8GB RAM - G.Skill F3-16000CL9D-4GBTD

I have just built a system with  aP55 GD 80 - and it only sees 4GB of the installed 8GB RAM.  I have not yet installed an OS, I am just POSTing and going into BIOS, and BIOS says there are 4GB physical memory.
This is G.Skill F3-16000CL9D-4GBTD memory, (4 sticks of 2GB each).
I upgraded the BIOS to 1.5 and it made no difference.
Also, interestingly, if I only run 2 sticks, it sees 2GB instead of 4GB (regardless of which 2 sticks) -- so it's as if it thinks each stick is just 1 GB.
Can anybody give me pointers of what I might be able to do about this?
I've read that some people are trying newer beta BIOS versions (newer than 1.5) to resolve memory problems - where can I download those?
    thanks a bunch!

    Dont buy the wrong RAM 2 x (2x2GB) for 8GB use !
    Charges can be different.
Thats the right way. Buy 8GB kits only guys!!!(for every P55 system)->
    example:
    http://geizhals.at/deutschland/a486589.html
    http://geizhals.at/deutschland/a486985.html

    http://geizhals.at/deutschland/a453903.html
    Bios shows 4GB(2) instead 8(4)GB:
Test every module with memtest 4.0 on errors http://www.memtest.org/  2hours !!!
Put CPU out, control your socket pins, mount cooler and look if 8GB function is proper, control RAM socket.
Flash newest Beta .173  with only 1 or 2 RAM sticks http://msi-forum.de/index.php?page=Thread&postID=727333#post727333 (you must register in forum,or ask a mod here in the HQ forum for Beta

  • Problems deploying Windows 7 x64 computers with more than 8GB RAM

    SCCM 2012 R2 CU1
    Windows 7 x64
We have a weird problem after upgrading from SP1 to R2 CU1. We have built a Windows 7 64 bit image with the latest updates (currently September 2014 updates). It deploys fine to all computers. But after some days – don’t know exactly – guess after 4-7 days
    - we start getting errors on computers with more than 8 GB of RAM. The errors just start out of the blue. We didn't change TS, image or driver package.
The error shows in 3 different ways – depending of the computer model.
    1) BSOD – STOP 0x000000F4. Disk error.
    2) Task Sequence error 0x87D00269 when installing the first Application in TS. The error seems to have something to do with Management Point not found.
    3) Task Sequence simply stops after installing CMclient. No errors - it simply stops.
For instance we get the BSOD on the Lenovo ThinkCentre M93p. But on the ThinkCentre M83 we get the TS error 0x87D00269. M93p and M83 uses the same driver package. They consequently  fail every time after the error has begun. If we reduce (remove physically)
the memory to max. 8GB of RAM, they successfully run the Task Sequence.  We get the above errors on both Lenovo and HP machines with more than 8GB.
I made a copy of the production TS and started testing. I created a new driver package for M93p/M83. It contains only the NIC drivers. Now M93p an M83 successfully finishes the TS. Adding sata or chipset or MEI/SOL drivers to the package I get the 0x87D00269
error on both m93p and M83. At least not the BSOD on the M93p ;-)
Tried setting  SMSTSMPListRequestTimeout to 180 in the TS. Also tried putting in a 5 minute break before installing the first Application in the TS. Also tried putting in SMSMP=mp1.mydomain in the installation properties for the CMclient. It is still
    the same problem.

Hopefully this is a bug in translating the errorcodes? Just to be sure I checked all the SCCM serviceaccounts and none of them have expired passwords.  And again why only on computers with more than 8GB RAM.
Anyone else had problems rolling computers with more than 8GB og RAM?
Why does this happens after a few days? To begin with, it runs just perfect and then starts failing on all machines with more than 8GB. Without a change in TS, image and driverpackage. We have seen this pattern for the last 3 month after
updating our image with the latest Windows Updates. It all started after updating from SP1 to R2 CU1.
Why does it only affect machines with more than 8GB RAM?
How to get rid of the 0x87D00269 error?
Seems to be somehow related to driver installation mechanism in SCCM in combination with Windows 7 64 bit, +8GB RAM and SCCM 2012 R2 CU1 or perhaps just R2.
Any help or hints would be appreciated!
    Thanks
    Anders

We have the same workaround, using a x64 boot image resolved all our issues with WinPE 5.0.
    Machines with >4GB of RAM
Lenovo ThinkPad T540p failed applying drivers with 80040005
    Black screen/white cursor issues intermittently
No updates from Microsoft, they are still looking through the logs, but we have updated our boot images and all is well now. Our case it still open with Microsoft, they are researching the logs.
