Lenovo W540 FRESH Windows 7 Install

Hi, Im trying to install fresh Windows 7 x64 (Volume License media) to my company W540.Windows 7 Installation does not find any hdd and install stops here.I have tried drivers from lenovo site and directly from Intel site (Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver) and Lenovo CSSM driver back drivers but no success. Installaton suggest Chipset 8 ACHI Drivers as it should? but still it does not find any hard disks.Bios is updated to latest version (V.2.21). (Still no "legacy mode available for SATA in bios). Suggestions or knowledge? Regars!

One thing you could do is to temporarily put the hdd into a different machine and perform the first step of installation (file copying) there. Then put the hdd back into your w540 for the rest of the install process. I used this method to fresh install Win7 from a DVD onto my W550s, which lacks a DVD drive.

Updating ipod on fresh Windows install without losing data?

I have an 80gb iPod Classic, and my iTunes had about 72gb worth of data in the playlist. Recently I had to reformat my system drive and do a fresh Windows install, and as such my iTunes playlist obviously got wiped. If I readd everything that was on my iPod into the playlist, will iTunes try to wipe my iPod and transfer everything over again, or will it recognize that the files are exactly the same and only copy the new files over that weren't originally on it?

If your iPod is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Once the iPod is in manual mode you can add to it without losing any content but you will have to drag it from the library yourself: Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
However once you are safely connected you can copy content from the iPod to iTunes. There are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content only from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync.
I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive

Z61t fresh Windows install

I had to replace the hard drive on a friend's Thinkpad Z61t. I did a fresh install of Windows XP. I cant get on the internet at all. No wireless, no ethernet. I downloaded drivers from Lenovo Support. Still nothing. All help is appreciated.

After downloading and running the drivers, you must go into C>Drivers>Win subfolder and run the appropariate setup files from there.

IdeaPad U400 fresh Windows install

I have made fresh install of Windows OS (Windows 7 Professional SP1 64 bit) on IdeaPad U400 using procedure from http://consumersupport.lenovo.com/au/en/HintsandTips/hints_show_12870415982811.html.
All steps without errors, but SSD and HDD are not combined with Rapid Drive technology after completing all tasks. Disks and their partitions are visible as 2 separate physical disks in Disk Management.
Any ideas?

Have fixed the issue in the meantime. The solution was to install raid drivers at the start of windows 7 setup where you have to select a drive.

After fresh windows install, can't scroll with screen

Before my disk image got corrupted, I was able to scroll by dragging my finger down the screen (X230 Tablet), but now I can't. Does anyone know how I could get this functionality back?

Fresh windows install on an envy 14 - How do I get beats working?

Hi All,
I received my brand new hp envy 14 yesterday and I love it. What I usually don't like is the pre installed software that come with every new computer so the first thing I did is I removed the default hdd and replaced it with a brand new ssd and installed a fresh version of windows.
Everything works fine with the default windows drivers except the sound. Meaning the sound works but when I crank up the volume to the maximum, it's not very loud (i.e.: I can get my cellphone to play music louder than that). Sadly I can't compare with the pre-installed version of windows because I didn't even bother booting with it ..
So my question is: What softwares/drivers am I supposed to install to take advandage of the beats of my new laptop? (I have the envy 14, not the beats edition but it stills feature audio beats..)
I tried to change the properties of the speakers (levels and enhancements, bass boost, virtual surrounds, loundness equalization,....)
I also tried to install the IDT drivers found on this forum but I didn't find any hp envy 14 specific version. Could it be the problem?

Fresh windows install GT780DX

I've been trying all night to perform a fresh install on windows. So far I have been unable to reinstall because after install it keeps saying is translated to" Cannot configure windows to run on the hardware of this computer" (Kan windows niet configureren om op de hardware van deze computer te worden uitgevoerd.)
I suspect this has something to do with missing raid drivers seen in earlier topics, but all the raid drivers on the driver pages are for install AFTER completing windows setup.
Ajy suggestions here since im pretty much stuck with a very expensive paper weight at the moment...

Fresh Windows Install Error

For a while, I had the new Haswell rMBP triple-booting Ubuntu, OSX, and Win 8.1 all on pure EFI, but then I screwed it up with an update-grub. At the moment I'm trying to redo things and have a completely wiped drive, a Win Install USB and an Ubuntu Install USB. I'm trying to freshly install Windows but it's giving me the classic "windows could not update the computer's boot configuration" after installation. I'm installing with EFI, which I know is possible because I've done it before, and my disk is GPT with a protective MBR, which Windows should like. I've tried having manually setting up the EFI/System/Win partitions with Windows, with gparted, and by letting Windows set them itself, but it always gives the error.
Does anyone know what exactly Windows is wanting that I don't have? Also, what's not really an option is installing OSX and using bootcamp or disk utility. OSX tries to slap on a hybrid MBR which really gets mucky really fast when adding more partitions, and it doesn't play nice with anybody.

I really don't know the ICH5 well enough to determine if there is an optimal reason why you select the PATA only or the SATA only to match the primary boot device. In the boot sequence you can boot in whatever order you want, and with the F11 key you can boot off whatever device you want. Whatever works is usually OK, but when things don't work, try the right way at least once

What will happen to iPod 5G's info when I do a fresh Windows install?

Title basically says it all. I've been using my iPod Video as a storage device as well as for music, and I'm going to do a clean install of Windows XP in the near future-my CD/DVD drive has somehow failed to respond (code 41), so reinstalling Windows to factory settings should do the trick. Only problem I can foresee is what will happen to all the data on my iPod when I reinstall the CD software for iTunes and my iPod drivers-will all the data on my iPod disappear when I reconnect it to my laptop for the first time?
Just wondering if anyone's done this before, as I'll assume it's a typical topic.

When the iPod is connected to the PC after reinstalling Windows, a message will appear asking you if you want to change the computer the iPod is associated with will appear if iTunes is installed; pressing Erase & Sync on this dialog box will delete all content on the iPod that was synced from iTunes. Content copied to the iPod outside of iTunes will not be erased by iTunes unless you explicitly restore the iPod.

Fresh Windows Install C55-B5200

My hard drive failed on my Toshiba Satellite C55-B5200 and I decided to buy a brand new SSD and Windows. Can somebody tell me what to do for drivers after I install Windows 8, or if I even have to install the drivers. I have no recovery media and I can't get back into my HDD because it no longer works. You need to install essentially all of the drivers and utilities at the site above in order for the laptop to work as designed. And the order is problematic.
I don't have the time or inclination to do that painstaking job. So I would restore the hard disk to its original out-of-the-box contents using Toshiba recovery media. All the drivers and utilities are properly installed.
Since you failed to create recovery media, obtain it from Toshiba. Scroll down to Get Recovery Media here

Cant start listener or DB Console on fresh Windows install.


Greetings Oracle Guru's. I installed 11g on Windows the other day, and a couple days later have service problems with the Listener and DB Console services.


Listener: the oracleoradb11g_home1tnslistener service on local computer started and then stopped.... bla bla bla
DB Console: Windows could not start the OracleDBConsoleOrcl on the Local Computer.... bla bla bla


There is nothing worth mentioning in the Event Viewer. I see lots of similar things on Google, but nothing quite precise. I've also seen things like drop/ recreate the service, but Im not understanding why I wont run into this issue again?
In addition to this, it seems to me like I experienced the same thing when using 10g, and I needed to add the Enterprise Mgr address to the Hosts file to resolve the issue. However, I've done that now and it didn't help. I've also seen this in the Oracle Log:

But I dont have a OracleDBConsoleorcl.nohup file in the referenced folder. As a good precaution, I also tried starting Enterprise Mgr from the DOS prompt (emctl.bat) and it mentioned not having my Oracle_SID defined. However, I browsed the registy and that is simply not correct, it is set as expected.
As you see, I've done quite a bit before posting here in an effort to provde as much information as possible.
Any ideas?

All of this was in fact related to the IP address changing (still not sure why a modified HOSTS file didn't fix?).
As a test, I removed "use DHCP" and hard coded my network connection back to the address it was when I first installed. While I did in fact lose internet connectivity, EM and the Listener could then fire up.
Obviously this won't be my permanent solution, but I wanted to post back for others with these issues.

Fresh Windows 7 Install

I have a new T510 laptop and, although it seems like it should be fast on paper, I'm not really impressed with the "out of the box" Windows 7 performance (it's running Windows 7 Professional, 64-bit). Boot time and loading the desktop are particularly unimpressive; I have seen lower-spec'd machines that boot/load the desktop faster.
Usually, whenever I get a new laptop, the first thing I do is wipe the pre-installed OS and put a fresh-install of the OS on. Of course, there is no Windows installation media with this machine, although I'm aware that I can create recovery DVDs.
Is it possible to do a fresh/OEM install of Windows 7 (using the license I paid for when I bought the machine) from the recovery volume? If not, what are my options? I have Windows 7 installation from MSDNAA, but I'm guessing the key wouldn't work with that.

Hi, you are right, MSDN installation media will not work with Product key on your Lenovo laptop. I have used clean Winodws 7 fro MSDN as well (but if you have MSDN, you must have product keys my friend, so what is the problem???) and after half year i have returned to standard preinstalled OS from hidden partition. There are some for me not necessary apps and utils preinstalled, so i have uninstalled them and honestly, there is no big differenc ein boot time. Keep in mind, you have to install some applications anyway, nobody use just clean Windows OS. After several months of usage you will find, there is no difference. And honestly, several secondsa in boot time make no sense, important is overall performance during work. And there is absolutely no difference. Thats my experience. Its only psychological effect more or less.

Miix 2 8: install fresh Windows 10 using Windows 8.1 key from tablet

Rather than do an in-place upgrade, can I perform a fresh Windows 10 installation on my Miix 2 8 using the Windows 8.1 key that came with the tablet? (First I gotta figure out how to boot from USB... See a different topic on this.) --Ron

i tried to use rufus but it didn't worked with the uefi on this tablet, i had to follow the diskpart steps posted on a lenovo support page i found
in my tablet i have win 8.1 single language with bing, so the normal win 10 home doesn't work, i had to use win 10 home single language, it asked for the serial key but allowed to install without providing any, after the installation ended, it activated automatically
the only real problem i had installing was that touch screen didn't worked during install and after logging in, keyboard and mouse stopped working, so i connected via otg another keyboard, installed intel chipset from the support page to get touch screen working and also dock driver to make keyboard and touchpadwork continuously
only problem now is that alt gr key doesn't work, i can't make the @ and other symbols via keyboard, only touch keyboard on screen, no idea what to do, system seems to believe that alt and alt gr is the same key and doesn't matter what keybard or language i set
in general i must say tat win 10 boots as fast or faster than win 8 and also batteyr seems to last longer, more than the 4 hours i usually get
also memory usage keeps around 1.2 gbs and i could delete the recovery parttition so i have 44 gbs free after installing office, libreoffice, antivirus, vlc and other 3 or 4 apps i normally use

HP Color Laserjet Pro MFP M277 will not install on Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Windows 7 64 bit

I tried to install printer driver software for my completely new HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP on my Lenovo ThinkPad X1 laptop. Lenovo runs on Windows 7 64 bit. The installation failed during Installation preparation (77% complete). The process stopped saying an error occured without indication of the cause of the error. I have tried installion both from the CD following the printer product and downloading from the HP web, with the same result. I then then turned on my old computer, a Dell Precision M2400 with Windows XP. The installation went perfect without problems on this computer. Is there a bug in the SW for Windows 7 (64), or is some part of the printer SW sensitive to HW variaton between PC companies even if the OS is the same?

I have the same problem with my Lenovo ThinkPad T420 running Windows 7 64 bit. Tried absolutely everything I could find on the blogs and nothing worked. To me, seems like a software problem (glaring, given the popularity of Lenovos and the Windows 7 64 bit systems). Returning the printer tomorrow and will not buy another HP printer.

Moving to Fresh Windows OS Install on Server with Same Name

We have been having a ton of stability problem that all seem to point to the OS or Disk sub-system. The server guys want to to reinstall the Windows OS on the Server that has the DB, Admin and CCM nodes. The OS is on its owen drive and none of the Oracle files will be effected and the server will have the same name/IP Address.
I am thinking that I would just have to run Autoconfig for the DB Tier and for the Apps Tier. Or should I run adcfgclone.pl dbTier and appsTier?

If you are going to do a fresh OS installation, then you would need to do the following:
- Run preclone on the database/application tier nodes
- Take a backup of the database/application files
- Install a fresh OS
- Install all pre-req. software (MKS, Cygwin, VC++, ..etc)
- Restore the database/application files
- Run postclone on the database/appication tier nodes
If you are going to reinstall the OS, then you would need to take a backup and relink all executable files. Running AutoConfig in both cases once you are done would be a good idea.
