Can someone provide me information on Lenovo Wireless Headset W770 compatibility with Linux and Mac distributions. Please let me know if the headset can work with other distributions as well.

I just received W770 and tried it on a PC and it worked. But when I plug the USB receiver in a macbook air (2011 MAC OS 10.6.8), it didn't work. The message I got is that MAC can't recognize the "keyboard" and asked me to press the shift button on the unrecognized keyboard- which I guess meant that the MAC treated the USB dongle as if it were a wireless keyboard of some sort. Anyway, would appreciate it if you could let me know how to make it work on MAC. The previous statement saying that it would work on any Lenovo machine regardless of OS is kinda of unclear - do you mean that it would also work on lenovo running MAC OS (is there any Lenovo running Mac OS?). Best format for external HDD for compatibility with Windows and Mac?

I have a couple of USB HDDs formatted as MS-DOS (FAT32) which I use on both my iMac and Toshiba laptop .
This week I discovered that I could have used exFAT which would have avoided the 4GB file limitation.
Apart from this, are there any other pros or cons associated with exFAT and would it be advisable to use this formatting in future?

I am cross using extern HDD and USB Stick's. Win7 64 and OSX 10.9. I had the best results when i format the drive with OSX (best cluster size by automatic). I am using small 16GB USB Stick's and large 2TB HDD.
Some Windows Programs does not work if they are not installed on NTFS and you also have no security on both systems in filesystem because exFat has no security. Could be also a bad idea to use a exFat drive for iPhoto Library but not tested.
I use exFat for Data like Music, Pictures, and Movies. To share home made things with friends and family.
If you use "active" Files like programs or databases use the "OS Native" filesystem, you have less problems :-)

Applet compatibility with linux and netscape

i currently running my server on linux redhat 7.2 and using Netscape 7.0
When i run applet, it keep telling me i dun have the plug-in installed, but i had it installed. Can someone enlighten me?!
i understand tat under windows, java will have a console to run applet ... so when running on netscape there's no problem..

Your AirPort Express is already providing two separate 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands, but each band is using the same wireless network name.
This is the default setup for the AirPort Express, which is recommended for most users. The theory here is that devices will automatically connect to the best quality signal based on their capabilities and distance in relation to the AirPort Express.
It is possible to assign a different name to the 5 GHz band, and then "point" devices at that network to connect. Some users swear by this option.....(I am not one of them).... but you might want to give it a try to see how it works for you.
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Click on the AirPort Express
Click Edit in the smaller window that appears
Click the Wireless tab at the top of the next window
Click Wireless Options near the bottom of the next window
Enter a check mark next to 5 GHz Name.....which will automatically add "5 GHz" to the network name....so you can identify it
Click Save, then click Update and wait a full minute for the Express to restart
Now you will need to "point" your 5 GHz capable devices at the 5 GHz network name. 2.4 GHz devices will connect to your "other" network name.

Hello. I am installing HCM and Campus Solution 9.0 Revision 5 with PeopleTools 8.53.
PeopleSoft Internet Architecture is WebLogic11g/Tuxedo11g/OracleDatabase11g with OS Oracle Linux 5.10.
In the process of seting up its database instance named "HRCS90" using /opt/PT8.53/setup/PsMpDbInstall/setup.sh, there is a step as below:
Database Create Type:
1) Demo
2) System
3) PeopleTools System
Either select Demo or System, the next step "select PeopleSoft Applications" has only one item:
1) PeopleSoft HRCS Demo Database - US English.
When set up "HRCS90" with SQL Server 2005 and Windows Server 2003, there is one more item: PeopleSoft HRCS Database - US English.
I don't need Demo database. I need HRCS database only because Demo database occupies much more disk space.
The document "PeopleSoft Human Capital Management and Campus Solutions 9.0 Revision 5 Installation Guide" does not state the detailed process to set up HRCS database instance.
I cannot find other PeopleSoft documents regarding set up HRCS database instance.
My questions are:
First, how much more disk space does "HRCS Demo database" occupy than "HRCS database" ? Is there "HRCS database" for Linux and Oracle Database ?
Second, can you find PeopleSoft document regarding the process of seting up HRCS 9.0 database instance with Linux and Oracle Database ?

You can use either RAC or dataguard. On note [105047|http://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/105047]:

    o You can use "Physical Standby".
    o You cannot use "Logical Standby".
    o You can use Data Guard Broker.
    o You can use Maximum Performance Mode, Maximum Availability Mode and Maximum Protection Mode.
    o In the case of Maximum Availability and Maximum Protection, you must pay particular attention to a fast network connection in order to avoid performance problems.
    o Maximum Protection causes the primary database to terminate if problems occur in the standby database.

Web Start doesn't leave the gate on Linux and Mac

I am evaluating Java Web Start to decide whether to recommend it as part of a government grant proposal. My initial impression of Web Start has been a sorry one. When I go to

which tells me that I need to download Java Web Start ("a one-time process"). Fine, I click on the download link, and instead of a download, what I get is a bug-report page:

I have seen this behavior on both Linux and Mac OS X. (My Windows machine already had Web Start installed from several months ago; I don't know if this reflects a superior Windows support relative to Linux or Mac OS X support, or a better download software several months ago.)
This is a terrible first impression for one's software. Given these beginnings, any sane developer would run away as fast as possible from the Web Start technology. Clearly a lot of work has gone into Web Start, and to see squandered like this is surprising.
Our software's user base (research biologists) has large Macintosh and Linux constituencies. My experience with Web Start suggests that Web Start would be a disastrous choice for us. I hope there is a simple way around these obstacles.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

I haven't tested JWS before JRE 1.4 so I can't recommend you anything if you require JRE 1.3 or before, but if you can install JRE 1.4, specially JRE 1.4.2 or after, JWS works very good on Linux and Windows. In both platforms I use deploy applications using JWS and they all work very good. I have no experience on Mac OS X.
Both platforms obviously require Java preinstalled. Also there is some ways to install Java automatically, this is something that must be done by an administrator as every other software that requieres installation and configuration on every PC. After that step, everything is very simple.
On Linux if you click on a .jnlp file for the first time, at least mozilla ask if you want to save the file or open it, you can select the javaws executable inside your java installation as the program to open this file, mark that that's the action you always want to do with that kind of files, and that's all. Also you can manually register .jnlp files and application/x-java-jnlp-file mime tipe as handled by javaws as the last part of the java installation and this first step will not be necesary.
On Windows the installer automatically register itself as insterested in handling jnlp files, so the previous step for linux is not required.

I have created an AIR application that has a feature to take screenshot of the screen. I have used "senthil.jar" to support screenshot capture.

Native Process is created and used. I have also created native installers like -

dmg for MAC
rpm for linux
on windows everything works fine.But on linux and MAC one NativeProcess event is dispatched i.e. Event.ACTIVITY. No other event is dispatched.

Shell compatibility with Linux Bash

I'm creating a complex shell script under Linux and I want it to be compatible with Solaris. The script will need to be source executed and hence does not use a "shebang" to specify the shell to be used.
I do not have Solaris available, but hope someone here could answer me a few questions:
What is the default command shell under Solaris, e.g. ksh, bash, solaris sh?
What shell is most commonly used?
I found the following link: http://linux.softpedia.com/get/System/Shells/Heirloom-Bourne-Shell-3043.shtml. It provides a portable variant of the traditional Unix shell. It has been derived from OpenSolaris code and thus implements the SVR4/SVID3 level of the shell. I'm not sure if this is good to test my script for Solaris compatibility, but it complied fine under RHEL 5.6.
So far I noticed the following compatibility issues:
$(...) command substitution does not work and I had to replace it with backquotes.
There is apparently no alias or unalias command. Is this correct?
The shell does not support variable arrays .e.g var[1]. Is this correct?

Thank you very much for the replies. I installed Solaris 10 yesterday evening under Virtualbox and performed some tests using the default shell.
From what I can figure out, the /sbin/sh shell is default, at least for root. There are several differences from Bash:
The C and Korn shell like the variable array [] syntax, but Solaris borne shell doesn't. I will need to find a way around it.
I notice that echo -n to supress newline is not available, but echo "\c" works.
The alias and unalias commands are available, but I wonder how to make them work. I tried alias ll='ls -l' and unalias r, but it has no effect. Any ideas?
Unfortunately my script is going to set aliases and environment variables for the currently running shell, so I cannot use shebang and need to source execute the script. I wonder though, whether I should bother to support the default Solaris shell and simply make ksh or bash a requirement. Any comments are welcome.

Wireless Lan connection issue with Linux clients

In a large Wireless Lan enviroment for a university, we have 3 WISM moduls attached on a 6k hw - Manged by ACS v6.0.181.0
We recently upgraded the software version of the controllers from 4.x to 7.0.98.0 - the Emergency Image version is 5.2.157.0
Since then, the students with Linux clients have massive connection issue - repeated connection lost in a short time period.
However the students with Windows clients have no problem at all.
The studends report, that their linux clients getting so much of some kind of unnecessary broadcast traffic which can not be handled by the NIC - and the NIC goes down - and this happens all 5-10 minutes.
Affected Linux clients are: Ubuntu v10.10 - also OpenSuse, Fedora and Arch-linx with latest OS version.
Any Idea how I could solve this problem?

Thanks for your reply. The broadcast forwarding is disabled on WLC's.
Pls find below the attached picture, which shows the captured broadcast traffic on a linux client (sent by a student to me).
I'm not sure, if its really only the broadcast traffic, which the linux clients can not handle.
From my point of view, it seems also to be that the linux clients are somehow disadvantaged among the other clients like windows or mac, if they all trying to get a wireless connection.
But the fact is only the linux clients are affected - and this happens to the linux clients only in our wireless infrastructure.
Windows or Mac clients have no such problem at all

Font compatibility with Office (for Mac and Windows)

Despite extensive searching, I'm struggling with a font compatibility issue between my Mac and my colleagues' PCs. The main points in order:
The fonts work correctly on both my Mac and other PCs.
The font in question is HelveticaNeueLT Std, rolled up into which are several different weights. The files are OTF files. The same files install without any problems on all the computers in question (and show up in Font Book). And the font can be used successfully:
- in Keynote, I select Helvetica Neue LT Std, and underneath choose whichever weight I want
- on PCs, the font and weight can be selected from the drop-down list in MS Office.
- in Office for Mac 2016 (Preview), I cannot select the font from the drop-down list, but can hit Cmd+T, and then select the appropriate font and weight under 'Latin text font'. What is odd is that in the dropdown list, only a particular weight/typeface is shown:
As this is a preview version, I wouldn't expect Office to work perfectly just yet...
When a file is created on a PC, it works fine on my Mac.
Every file I have attempted to open that was created on a PC, and using these fonts, works fine. The fonts display correctly (i.e. including the correct weights), and I can work with the document without any problems. The only odd bit: sometimes in the dropdown box on my Mac it then says (null):
Whereas at other times, the font name shows correctly:
Both of those examples were created using the 'Thin' weight of HelveticaNeueLt Std. I can't see any pattern as to what causes this inconstency.
The problem is that what I create on my Mac shows incorrectly on a PC.
If I create anything using Office 2016 or Keynote, selecting the preferred weight as described above, it shows just fine on my Mac. But when I send the PPTX file to a PC, all weights look identical (it looks as though the PC has just displayed everything in a standard weight). This is the problem I am trying to solve.
To try to get around this, I tried the process of removing the Helvetica/Helvetica Neue .dfont files that come with the Mac - but this didn't work and caused several other problems. Besides, the font I'm trying to get to use as intended has a different name.
All help would be greatly appreciated - my thanks in advance.

Thanks Kappy and apologies if it is inappropriate - but just to clarify, my main question is whether fonts used in Keynote should be compatible with other software (in this case Office running on Windows). The Office for Mac Preview is a bit of a red herring but I thought it should be mentioned.
I tried to clarify my first post, but it didn't work. What I wanted to add was simply whether Keynote handles fonts in a way that other pieces of software struggle to read - despite the font itself working perfectly in both environments.

Problem with iTunes compatability with iMovie and iPhoto

I purchased some music from the iTunes music store and wanted to use that music in a homemade DVD I made. I also have tried using the purchased music when I play a slideshow in iPhoto. In both instances, an error window popped up saying that I needed to launch iTunes and authorize the computer to play the song... Well I bougth the music on the same computer and it is authorized. I typed in the authorization anyways and then after that iMovie and iPhoto both pop up with an error saying that it can't use the file.
Thinking it might just be one song file... I have tried this with many purchased song. I have had the same problem with all of the purchased songs I've tried.
Are some purchased songs not compatable with the iLife applications? How can I fix this problem? I'm running iLife 05 and I have installed all of the updates, including the most recent...

Maybe a silly question since compatibility is always asked about older versions, but here is my question:
Is Project Server 2010 compatible with IE11 and Windows 8.1?
I personnaly tested with IE11 and it seems to be ok. All views and pages can be opened with IE11.
But what about windows 8.1?
Has Microsoft done any communication about this?

I am seeing a minor issue with the timesheet grid after users are upgraded from IE8 to IE11.
We are using Project Server 2010 with SP1 and Oct 2013 CU.
When some users (using IE11) switches between filters or views in the Timesheet page, the grid shrinks making to content un readable. The only way to get it back is to refresh the page. After a refresh, the grid returns to normal size, but the pane
divider is too far to the left and always must be dragged to the right in order to see the task names in the left grid.
