Lenovo X1 Carbon Mobile Broadband Greyed out

Hello all,
My Mobile Broadband seems to be Greyed out inside of Access connections. I can not switch off from Wifi to anything else
I have put a fresh windows 7 64 bit image onto the system, installed all drivers, followed by Lenovo System Update and all of those updates. I do not see any missing devices in device manager.
I have 5 devices listed under "Network Adapters" inside of device manager
Bluetooth Device (Personal Area Network)
Bluetooth Device (RFCOMM Protocol TDI)
Intel(R) Centrino(R) Advances-N 6205
Lenovo USB2.0 Ethernet adapter
PANGP Virtual Ethernet Adapter
If i "show hidden devices" in device manager, i can see the WAN Miniport (IKEv2, IP, IPv6, L2TP, Network Monitor, PPPOE, PPTP, SSTP)
I have tried downloading the driver for the mobile broadband card directly and installing, which happens, but nothing changes. I have also switched out the AT&T card inside the device, thinking it might have been a bad SIM, but nothing changes. Still unable to switch to Mobile Broadband
Has anyone else experienced such an issue or have any idea on what else to try?
Lenovo X1 Carbon
Model: 3444FEU

Except for the SIM card, everything you are seeing is consistent with there not being a mobile broadband (wireless WAN) card in the system, and the Lenovo support site backs that up - there is no WWAN card in the 3444-FEU .
You can verify that by looking under the keyboard, as described in the hardware maintenance manual:

  • OSX Server Mobile Account Greyed out after initial setup?

I just setup a new install of Mountain Lion on an iMac and installed Server.app to set it up as a server.  I activated Open Directory and configured it for a few users (with NFS mounted home directories from a Linux NFS server).  I then logged into the iMac with one of these users and it asked me if I wanted to make them a mobile user.  I did as this will activate the Portable Home Directory function.  It asked me what I would like to sync and then setup the user as normal.  Now the issue I have is with any subsequent login of that user if I go to the Users & Groups sys pref panel the Mobile Account "Configure" button is greyed out.  Syncing can still work from the menu bar pull down but I can no longer change any of my sync preferences.  I've gone through the settings in default read com.apple.homeSync but nothing in there seems to affect that button being greyed out.  To eliminate the NFS server as a possible cause I setup a local network user with local storage on the server and it acts the same way after setting up as a mobile account. Any ideas on what causes this?

I solved this myself. The user ended up have a folder on his desktop that contained a backup home folder from an old powerbook that he was trying to save. It was a complete home folder, Documents, Library, etc and I thought it might be interfering with the sync of the normal home folder. So I created a folder called Bad Stuff in the home folder and copied the old powerbook home folder into it. Then opened up the Sync Settings and excluded the Bad Stuff folder from the sync. And it worked, the sync when fine and is resyncing fine.
Hope that helps with other people with a similar problem.

  • Mobile me greyed out

When I select an album to publish to mobile me in order to let friends see it, all the options for doing so such as mobile me, facebook etc are greyed out. It has been this way for two days. Please can someone help ?

    JP,
    Welcome to the Discussions.
This typically happens because there is no SMTP selected as the Outgoing Server, currently. Open Mail Preferences/Accounts/Account Information and check whether there is the name of any SMTP in the box beside Outgoing Server? If None, click on the arrows beside that box, and choose Edit Server List. Do you then see a list of available SMTP?
    More info, please.

  • New Thinkpad W530 order direct from Lenovo with integrated mobile will not connect to broadband

I purchased a W530 with integrated mobile and have been trying to connect with various networks to no avail. I have a Type 2436-CTO S/N xxxxxxx 13/08 and Windows 8 came installed when I received. I have upgraded BIOS and everything that Lenovo solutions says I need to update.
The MEID is A1xxxxxxxxxxx. It came with an integrated Sierra Wireless MC8355-Gobi 3000 modem. I have downloaded an updated driver for Windows 8 for the MC8355. I have spoken with almost every Lenovo technical person as well as taken the computer to various network stores and so far no one can figure out why it won't connect to Verizon.
Verizon says I'm active and the computer error message says I am not active. Every tech has tried to look at the system by logging into my computer and no one can figure it out. The device manager says the MC8355 is working. Interesting when it was shipped to me it also had an AT&T sim card installed. After I had signed up with AT&T and one mo of paying for service they determined it would not work on their network. Finally someone told me to take the AT&T sim card out and it still will not connect.
Verizon tells me I do not need a sim card as I have the MC8355 but they can't tell me why I can't connect. Now I've paid for Verizon service for one month and still cannot connect. Everything else works fine with the W530. I've owned ThinkPads exclusively since the first one ever came out. I've never not been able to connect to mobile broadband with any others. I also went through about two weeks of trying to connect with Lenovo Mobile Access and that did not work because I'm running Windows 8. Finally a nice gentleman called me from LMA to tell me it will not work after all the time of connecting and being on the road. I could go back to an old ThinkPad to travel with but I'm determined to get my new one to connect. Any more advice or anything anyone can tell me try?

  • Mobile account settings greyed out

    Hi,
We have an Open Directory running with mobile users on macbooks and normal users on Mac mini's. I have an issue with 1 mobile user where the mobile account settings can't be changed. Most of the options in the screens are greyed out; I can change the interval, but not the folders or the "at login - at logout".
The specific user is admin on the computer and I have the same issue on another computer when I create a new mobile account. I have deleted this user from the computer and recreated it, but it remains the same.
The issue started in Lion and remains after upgrading to Mountain Lion.
    Anyone can help me ?
    Kind regards,
    Bas

I tried setting Account Creation to Never as documented below. This made no change in the sync options on the client.

  • Mobile Broadband Connect not working on x301

    Hi
I definitely cannot get mobile broadband working on my UK x301
I have a fully updated system with all the Win7 Drivers (using both System update 4 and further manual downloads) and I found a Win 7 version of Mobile Broadband Connect however when loaded it hangs on Initialising... for ages and then complains that "the sim card present on the system cannot be read"
    Can anyone help please?

That has been on issue ever since RC1. The Ericsson Broadband Modem only seems to work in specific combinations of older drivers. Also not every access connections version seems to behave nicely in combination with it. My success rate in configuring those has been approx 50% and I gave up.
I did manage a 100% success rate though with all most recent drivers + the specific 7uw706ww ericsson package from the beta website.
There's one catch though. This driver seems to be capped at 384Kbps e.g. stuck in UMTS mode.
For me that's enough to last until proper drivers come out, but it is higly irritating.

  • Mobile Broadband with Gobi 2000 outside the US

    Hi all,
Just got my X201 with a Gobi 2000 card inside. Since I live outside the US I was never really sure how it would work outside the AT&T and Verizon networks. Even after I received the Thinkpad it was not very easy to find information about how to set it up, so I thought I would post it here - I am sure someone is looking for it...
This is what I got: X201, Windows 7 Professional 64-bit.
First of all you are wondering where to put the SIM card. Take the Thinkpad battery out, and you will find the slot of the SIM. The cut off corner on the SIM should stick into the slot.
Next, you can use the Lenovo "Access Connections" software to make the connectivity, also outside the US. This is the same software as you use to to manage your Wifi - the one that shows Wifi signal strength in the Windows task bar.
(Note it should also be possible to use the Microsoft Dialup software, the the APN needs to be entered directly into the modem using "+cgdcont=1" - google that if you want to try.)
    Back to Access Connections.
For someone new to Thinkpad, you may start with the Lenovo ThinkVantage Toolbox. That is the blue button on the keyboard, and the blue toolbox icon in the task bar. After you have done all your Lenovo and Microsoft updates here, you will notice an exclamation mark under "Security & Networking", "3G Mobile Broadband". It will essentially tell you: "A Wireless Wide Area Network (WWAN) card is installed in your system. Please run Lenovo Broadband Connect to activate your card."
This is somewhat confusing, particularly in the GSM world. What is it will do is not activating your Gobi 2000 card, but activate a subscription with a carrier in the US. Either an AT&T subscription, with an AT&T SIM and GSM/HSDPA, or a Verizon subscription with EVDO (which does not use a SIM). If you have put your European SIM in the Thinkpad this will lead you nowhere.
Just click "Ignore Issues" to get rid of the exclamation card.
Go back to Access Connections - just click on the Wifi signal in the task bar.
For the record, I am running version 5.61 of Access Connections. There is also 5.62 available for download, but it only seems to be adding Sprint settings, which we do not need outside the US.
Now, in Access Connections click on the "Location Profiles" tab, and up to the right do "Switch to: Advanced".
Now "Create...", so you can enter settings for your mobile network.
Give it a name, and as type of network choose Mobile Broadband.
Choose the Gobi 2000 hardware, and click next.
Next screen you will change the technology used from EVDO to HSDPA/GPRS, and finally get some life in the hardware.
Under Select WAN Settings you may choose to go Automatic, or Custom. I believe the Automatic covers about 30 non US networks, mainly European, but if your network is not covered, go Custom, and click Edit Settings.
Now you an choose settings from one of the 30 or so networks in the drop-down list, or just enter them by hand.
For the record, you just need the APN, the Username and the Password. There are the same settings you typically enter into your phone for GPRS connectivity, and they are probably available on your providers website. You will probably want to change your Authentication Option from PAP to NONE, depending on what your provider's instruction says.
For the record, for MTN Cyprus these are "internet", "wap" and "wap".
Click Next, and although the next page looks messy there is not really anything to change - just click Finish.
OK, we are done. Now you can test your connection, either by choosing that as a Location and clicking Connect, or by using the Mobile Broadband radio button and the Connect button.
You should now be able to use Access Connections as a single point to switch between Wifi and HSPA, and have no annoying exclamation marks from the Lenovo ThinkVantage - also outside the US.

Perhaps that is all you needed, but there are definitely 3G ISPs in the world that will need somewhat more than that.
There are also 3G ISPs that check the IMEI of devices and will only connect devices thay have sold.
3G services globally are only semi-standadised, at best, in terms of what is needed to establish a connection and it it is quite important to pay close attention to all the information provided by the particular ISP that a connection is attempting to be established with.

    hey ditton01,
when you go to Device Manager and look at the integrated mobile broadband, was the brand attached to it ?
anyway, try removing Access Connection and use Windows built-in connection wizard.

  • Windows 8.1 and mobile broadband

I have upgraded to Windows 8.1 on my X1 Carbon, and it does not detect mobile broadband - the "Networks" pane now shows only the switch for Airplane mode on/off and a list of available WiFi networks, where previously it showed a list of available networks (when outside my home  country) or "Macheen" when at home. Driver issue?  This is make or break for me, as mobile broadband is my lifeblood.
    Thanks

After updating my X1C to Windows 8.1 I can tell you that at least once I've seen the mobile broadband option with the Vodafone logo on the connections, but it is no longer listed. Even if I go to "Turn wireless devices on or off" it only shows the Wifi control, no bluetooth or mobile broadband.
Will add this issue to my own thread of issues with the 8.1 update on my X1C...

  • USB Mobile Broadband

    Hi,
I've looked everywhere in the user discussions and can't find an answer to my problem. This is my first post, and I'm not very techie, so please go easy on me!
I just bought my macbook pro, and I connect to the internet via 3's USB Mobile Broadband Huaweii E122. I have had no issues installing the USB software, and it connects to the internet fine on startup. However when I close the computer lid (and the macbook sleeps), then I reopen the lid, it doesn't let me connect to the internet. It detects the driver, sim card etc, but it doesn't let me press the 'Connect' button (the button greys out). I have to physically disconnect the USB and plug it back in, then the macbook detects the driver and sim card and I can press the 'connect' button.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the usb modem. Problem persists. I have tried using it in different usb ports on the computer, with and without a usb extension cable. I have called tech support at my internet provider, who have told me that I'm just going to have to live with unplugging and plugging back in my modem because that's how macs work (total waste of a 20 minute phone call!). The funny thing is, that when I first installed the modem it was fine - this problem did not exist.
Every time I startup the computer it detects the usb and lets me connect absolutely fine. It only happens when I close the lid and reopen it again. Sorry if this is so wordy, and I hope it makes sense! It's not the end of the world but it is certainly annoying having to unplug and plug in this modem. Can anyone help me?
    Thanks,
    Brit

No, no router. It's called Mobile Broadband. I plug the usb stick (I've also seen it called a dongle) into my computer and the internet travels with me. I looked online for details about the internet type and connection and the only information I'm given that it's high speed broadband. When it's plugged into the computer for the first time it installs itself, and there shouldn't be a need to remove it. It worked perfectly with my other laptop (this was windows based) and it works fine with my mac, except for the 'connect' button greying itself out when the computer awakens from sleep mode.

  • I've had a problem with syncing itunes, when i sync it dosent sync songs previously deleted it just greys them out, which is great but if i want to add a new video or song from my computer it wont sync it will just grey out and wont play. now all my songs

ive had a problem syncing with itunes recently. when i delete a song on my iphone when i sync with my computer it still syncs but just greys out and is rendered useless. thats great unless i when i want to add new music or videos from my pc to my iphone it wont sync and will just grey out. i looked for solutions and one said that deleteing all your music from the usage in settings would fix it, well now when i sync all of my music is greyed out. ive tried adding all of my songs manually into my ipod instead of syncing entire library and nothing. (also when i select to sync music nothing shows up in the usage bar (normally 3 gigs)  might help) could someone please help?

I had major issues with the iPhone 4s battery, however it’s resolved.
The tech who set the phone up at the Apple store did so with little training.
if you have a mobile me account. First go and move all your data to the cloud by going on your computer and logging in at me.com/move. The cloud has replaced mobile me, so there is no need for those two accounts
Also make sure that for any of your email accounts you set them up to fetch, not push. My tech person set them all to have the email servers push data to the phone. The new iphone4s antenna is extremely strong so it will continually try to access stuff that is pushed–***** a lot of battery life doing this. It makes it worse if you have exchange 2010 accounts. Something about changes made to exchange really suck battery life from devices that access such accounts.

  • HT5361 I have Snow Leopard on my late model IMac. I downloaded Mountail Lion and paid for it from the Mac Store. It will not install. It takes me through several pages and then button to install is greyed out. A message that this disc is used for Time Mac

I have a late mode IMac 27" running Snow Leopard. I downloaded Mountain Lion from the Apple Store and paid for it. When I trie to install it took me through the first few pages of installation such as agrreeing to terms and the Lion Page showed up asking where I wanted to intall Mountain Lion. The install button was greyed out. I also had a message this disc is used for Time Machine. I had no other disc to choose from. Time Mahine was in the OFF position. I tried hooking up an external drive and tried using it as th Time Machine Backup. That did not work and it also said this disc is used by Time Machine. I have read of several other cases like this but have found no solution other than doinh a complee wipe of the hard drive and doing a reinstall which I really want to avoid if I can.

Look at the root of your hard drive for a folder called Backups.backupdb.
Or, a sparse bundle disk image for one of mobile computers that might have tried to back up to your Mac.
If you have those, remove them and try again.

  • Greyed Out Brightness/Contrast onThinkvision

I have a Lenovo LCD monitor connected to my E520 laptop. I decided against my better judgement to adjust the colour settings today and after setting the brightness up to 100% I no longer have access to the brightness control on my monitor. I've tried restarting, but the brightness/contrast button will not respond. Can anyone help?

Some additional info: the brightness button on the monitor no longer works. I can access the settings by double-clicking the screens enter button, but in that menu brightness settings are greyed out. The computer/Windows is not remembering my calibration settings. I adjusted the gamma and colours to compensate, but it forgets after a few cold starts. Several reinstalls of the drivers doesn't help, trying to update the drivers doesn't help. The brightness adjusts on my laptop, but not on the external monitor. The monitor is an L197 Wide, laptop an E520, Windows 7 sp1, all updates and patches applied. I also tried creating a new user account and switching the graphics, no luck there either.
